he can't communicate what he wants, and reverts to biting clothing and such
are they trying to get you a wife?
@Burgi yup!
Oldschool!
@bwDraco hide it, don't delete it?
arranged marriage 4tw...?
15:00
@Burgi sometimes ;p
is she hot?
'Show hidden comments' is a wonderful thing. It'd be even more wonderful if it HID, but not deleted ''Thanks, that really worked!'
hmm
Actually? Yeah, kinda ;p
can she cook?
does she like dogs?
Also both our moms have been quietly conspring to get us hooked up so...
1. Not sure. Her mom's a pretty good cook
15:02
is this girl in india?
2. They have 2
3. Yes
@Bob it just got nuked.
I think - it's faded out on my screen, or is that just because downvotes?
At this point its a "Ok, so you're interested. lets look at horoscopes and all that stuff"
would she move to SG or you to india?
if that works out, then we formally meet
15:03
Inwhich case, why do downvotes on meta, where you're showing a disagreement, not a bad thing do so D:
the former
horoscopes???? wtf?
lol
OLD FASHIONED!
I actually told my parents I will be cross if they go too extensively into horoscopes
Apparently they asked tho
so sending them a chart should be no biggie
@Burgi it's a pretty small storm tbh
@djsmiley2k so one that just grumbles about thunder but no actual lightening
15:04
@Burgi And there is the problem
busy people get on with life
the non busy make things hard.
So what happens? We react to the non-busy, failing the busy...
@JourneymanGeek good luck dude! will we get invites to the wedding?
i love a good party
Bob
Bob
And this is my first use of Firefox Screenshots... it's actually really nice o.O
15:06
@Burgi actually? If you guys want to see an indian wedding, and arn't the totally creepy sort, and don't mind a trip down to small town tamil nadu...
I think it could be arranged ;p
Indian weddings are 3 days and actually super formal tho
well not indian
Bramin weddings. Lots of folks do half day weddings now
would you have a mini-ceremony in SG for your friends?
just a reception
also kinda boring ;p
if you could have it the same weekend as the F1....
lol
anyway, its still a solid "in motion"
friday/saturday party, sunday racing!
15:09
there's a lot of stuff to happen ;p
or not
regardless, good luck
what happens if you meet a girl in SG and date her in a western style type thing?
I should have done it before XD
but I don't think I've even had a serious crush on anyone in over a decade
I have 2-3 cousins who kinda did that in india
and err...
If @Burgi's going, and I can get really really really cheap flights.
and @bertieb! and @FMLCat!
15:12
about a dozen who did things the old fashioned way
lol
and @DavidPostill
That would be vaguely hilarious.
"Hi! we are from the internet. we are here to drink beer and stick memes on all your cats"
if @rahuldottech is going, i might not bring my girlfriend
5
can't risk the calcutta cassanova stealing her

In January, Jon Skeet’s rep crossed over one million. To thank him for his generous efforts and contributions, we hosted a brunch in his honor at our New York Headquarters in February. We also asked the community if they had any questions for him to answer in an IRL Q&A.

Please enjoy this delightful interview in which Jon discusses everything from his origin story, to overload resolution, to banana flower pants. We’re immensely grateful for Jon’s continued devotion to the Stack Overflow community, and we hope to give him another free brunch after he earns his next million rep! …

15:15
lmaoo
lol
indian weddings = lots of food. Much sitting around. Lots of ceremony
I think fire.
have you been to a catholic wedding?
man they drag on for hours
3 days man
15:17
the only plus side is that most catholics are of irish descent and have lots of alcohol afterwards
and I was running around helping old peoplethrough most of my brother's
oh
and no booze
i thought hindus liked booze..?
Its like, one of our deadly sins, especially for bramins.
15:19
then how did you get the weird messed up gods without being totally smashed?
this is all meant in good humour btw
You get drunk. Then your girlfriend's dad kills you and cooks you and feeds you to her. Then you get revived by magic. And you can't marry her cause she's your mom now.
i see
Wait
How is she my mom now
cause you got born out of her
this is literally the folktale my mom told me ;p
I don't remember any of the names.
Makes complete sense (not)
15:21
@Burgi eh, our gods arn't messed up. ;p
Well a few are.
there's a few village ones...
one them is an elephant with 16 arms
Ah
There's many aspects of god
lol
reflecting well, what humanity needs and their various roles.
also, I think vinayaka at most has 4 arms.
Unless you're thinking of his vaihnavite opposite number
still 4 more than the average elephant
15:23
Well, there's a few stories but...
:)
he's the remover of obstacles.
and one story is that he had his head destroyed so it was remade.
also, he's adorable.
(also, in my head-canon, he's a toddler in a pink pig onsie)
@JourneymanGeek Where exactly in TN?
thats tennesse?
@Burgi TN?
15:28
i think so
yup
@Burgi I meant Tamilnadu.
Tennessee ( ( listen); Cherokee: ᏔᎾᏏ, translit. Tanasi) is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. Tennessee is the 36th largest and the 16th most populous of the 50 United States. Tennessee is bordered by Kentucky and Virginia to the north, North Carolina to the east, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi to the south, and Arkansas and Missouri to the west. The Appalachian Mountains dominate the eastern part of the state, and the Mississippi River forms the state's western border. Nashville is the state's capital and largest city, with a population of 660,388. Tennessee's...
they have a nice flag
@RogUE Coimbatore
would you recommend anti-pollution face masks for westerners?
@JourneymanGeek 4hr travel from here, roughly.
15:31
@Burgi the weather's pretty nice
and its a relatively small town
Just don't ever drink tap water ;p
Coimbatore (), also known as Kovai (pronounced [koːʋaj]), is a major city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of the Noyyal River and surrounded by the Western Ghats. Coimbatore is the second largest city (by area and population) in the state (after Chennai), 5th largest in South India and the 16th largest urban agglomeration in India. It is administered by the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation and is the administrative capital of Coimbatore district. It is one of the fastest growing tier-II cities in India and a major industrial hub in South India. It is often referred...
@Burgi I think I am going to his wedding ;p
lol
assuming things work out ;p
I also have (shallow) roots here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiruppur
got some relatives there, and my gran spent her last days there
£828 round trip with an overnight in singapore
@JourneymanGeek wedding will be here at Coimbatore, I suppose.
lol
Donno ;p
I think there's a few steps in between, assuming everything works ;p
15:41
don't tell me that, I haven't seen a tamil marriage, except in films.
494 with 2 changes
amsterdam and bangalore
films are not really a reflection of reality
This is my first opportunity to see one..
@Burgi Are you planning your trip?
15:43
@RogUE i've also bought my hat!
(tbh, even I don't know the whole process - I engineered it very differently with how it went for my brother ;p)
apparently i have been summoned to see the baby
@Burgi Well that's a good sign
Does said baby have a name? (Don't share).
Just never understood always calling baby, 'Baby'
shrugs
I am not joking, the location is so close to me.
I think I shall bring @rahuldottech as well.
15:46
if it does no-one has told me
@Burgi Did you ask?
anyway i can't go now, i'm on the clock
@RogUE totally serious
⋱o⋰
Anyone else use teamfreehugs' Inbox Reader for SE sites?
I have notifications in the top bar but their dealie only seems to show replies and such
15:50
who's having a baby?
wut
@Burgi's sister had one
I was away for a day and things start happening
@jokerdino Today, on a very special episode of Root Access...
@bertieb What's the point...?
15:52
@rahuldottech Is it only meant to show replies, and (next question) is there a way to get any and all notifications via API ?
I can't remember how I came across it originally
@bertieb No, as in, I was asking what the point of the Inbox reader is
Never heard of or used it before now
@rahuldottech To show inbox stuff?
I'm not entirely sure
@bertieb What's wrong with the existing inbox?
You have to click on it and read it
No, but seriously now- the teamfreehugs thing could be integrated into a dashboard or elsewhere
Included in a desktop widget
etc
sigh
Had to download the Bluetooth driver for a different model PC (albeit with the same adapter) and manually install the INF from the unpacked Bluetooth package to install the proper Realtek driver.
Because Lenovo doesn't supply Realtek drivers for this particular model; the original (Qualcomm Atheros) network adapter was replaced under warranty.
Just deleted the obsolete QCA drivers using RAPR.
Bluetooth just kept on disconnecting with the generic driver.
(and for reference, @allq, it is using the Microsoft Bluetooth stack)
(had similar issues, including choppy audio, on Astaroth, which uses a very similar Bluetooth adapter from Realtek; had to install the OEM drivers from ASUS to fix it)
Feb 1 at 15:08, by bwDraco
TL;DR: Fixed Bluetooth audio stuttering by installing the OEM driver from the motherboard manufacturer's website. The generic Microsoft driver was responsible for the problem.
No more random disconnects \o/

@bwDraco this is why I go Intel for wlan/bt :P
they actually provide drivers directly
not force you to go looking for oem versions
Do you guys know what's depressing?
I'll be 17 in exactly 51 minutes
That's not depressing, taken out of context.
And yet, I know that it's just going to be another messed up year for me, and I'm very, very close to giving up
What do you mean by "giving up"? ó_ò
@ThatBrazilianGuy collapsing. Having a breakdown. Idk
Probably not suicide
But I'm finding it incredibly hard to go on
17:42
@rahuldottech How feasible is it for you to get therapy?
It helped me a lot during a hard time in my life.
I didn't have the conditions to pay during that time, but I arranged a value with the therapist.
If you really don't have the means to pay, you can seek the psychology or psychiatry departments of universities, oftentimes they can direct you to programs where students who are nearly graduating or have recently graduated can give you consultations for free
@ThatBrazilianGuy I visit the school counselor regularly
It helps.
A lot.
But what I've been doing for the past three years is going to the therapist, but living in the same conditions at home
@rahuldottech A therapist might help even more. Try it. The worst that could happen is you deciding you don't need the "extra help".
@rahuldottech Yeeeeeeeeeah.
The exam I have in 9 months will decide which uni I get into, what jobs I get, basically my whole life and how successful I am
But I can't study for it while living in this house
And there's nothing that the therapist can do about this situation in particular
@rahuldottech I don't know much of your specific situation or about indian culture in general, but if you go to a uni do you get free or cheap dorms? Or get an entry level job, no matter how menial, to get you a salary in order to rent a house with other people your age?
Are these two options feasible for you or for indians in general?
If I get into a decent university, then yes
But that depends on my 12th board and JEE examinations
17:54
Is it possible for you to pass an exam for an average/mediocre university, get free or cheap dorms there, use the time and calmness of being there to study to move into a better university?
Or is it possible for you to, dunno, get a job at say McDonald's or whatever, then with your first salary move into a shared housing / roommate environment?
@ThatBrazilianGuy that's how universities work everywhere in the world except in India
luckily, I turned out alright
@ThatBrazilianGuy doubt it
I need to concentrate for the next nine months
I need to work my ass off
But I can't while living in this environment
I've been trying and trying and trying
The way you speak of this exam, it sounds like you can only take it once and the result is permanent. Which would be... silly? insane? utterly cruel?
describe the problems in this environment
@ThatBrazilianGuy it's a scare tactic to keep kids chained to the system
17:57
@jokerdino Wait, they do that? (let you take the exam only once)
you can definitely attempt later
but it will be reflected somewhere
people re-taking it get penalties compared to the ones taking it for the first time? Or, a little more subtle but equally cruel, do they take into consideration your school grades when considering if you pass the exam?
@jokerdino okay, but we're going to have to get a room owner to clear this chat out in a while
TBG is a RO
There are some nineteen court cases between my mom and my dad
I live with my mom and my sis
