@allquixotic heh, would need to get a dongle and new speakers. As opposed to a dongle or PCI card ;p
I might be able to jerryrig it through my monitor.
I just am kinda worn out.
04:09
@JourneymanGeek Does your monitor have audio out? This shouldn't be so hard.
@bwDraco one does! But I need to find it
the other has crappy internal speakers that seems to work.
Both of my monitors do. My current setup has audio fed through the Dell S2417DG and into speakers.
Speaking of which... I keep forgetting that there are USB 3.0 ports on it :p
(and yes, the cable is hooked up)

1 hour later…
05:12
this is a tiny bit odd
I just turned on a QOS rule on my main server (yes, I've been mucking around and apparently breaking stuff) that sets SMB to low priority. APPRENTLY that solved some of the issues I had with backups slowing down the rest of my network segment .. without actually affecting my smb transfer speed

1 hour later…
06:40
Well... my PXC 550 is behaving differently between when the power is on and when the power is off. If I put the left earcup on my ear and rotate the right earcup to turn it on or off, after accounting for volume differences, the bass is apparently slightly stronger when the headphones are off. This is tested with ANC turned off.
The headphones can be driven through a wired connection when off (e.g. when the battery is depleted), but the amplifier used when powered on has a noticeably nonlinear frequency response.
Now, this isn't meant to be audiophile-grade, but a $400 pair of headphones ought to have excellent sound quality. I would suppose that Sennheiser did some tuning that relies on the amplifier being active, since the unit turns on when the earcups are in the listening position.
Regardless, the sound quality is well beyond anything else I've worked with. A slightly nonlinear frequency response isn't really a serious problem.
(@allq)
Effect mode is off FWIW.
that's actually pretty normal for ANC
there's actually a little amp as part of the ANC circuit IIRC
I'm well aware of that. When powered on, all audio signals pass through an internal amplifier. ANC can't possibly work without an amplifier.
And some degree of amplifier nonlinearity is to be expected. The question is how much, and how it affects the perceived output.
As such, this is not a defect, but a design characteristic.
06:58
not much when you actually need ANC

> I thought Docker was available for Windows too, but everything so far seems too much Linux-centric.
Well, dev (at least some aspects of it) is much easier and streamlined on Linux or Mac
Or so I heard, I have no experience with this stuff on Windows
Surely .net stuff will be much easier (or only possible) on Windows...
user226528
I've never seen anything as good as Visual Studio on Linux or Mac.
14:19
@ThatREDACTEDGuy .NET stuff is definitely possible on not-windows; I don't know how stuff like MonoDevelop stacks up against VS.NET, though.
user226528
Yes. .NET Core is cross-platform.
@FleetCommand VS is great (assuming you like IDEs in the first place) if you're working in the windows ecosystem. If you're not, or if you're doing cross-platform development, it rapidly gets painful. As does the lack of a package manager.
user226528
I only develop for the dominant platforms: Android and Windows. (Well, I am not a developer anymore.) I've used Delphi and Eclipse in the past (respectively for Windows and Android) but now Visual Studio does it all.
user226528
Linux development is painful. I don't go that way.
user226528
And as for Mac, Apple doesn't sell in my country. Almost no one has Macs here.

14:48
@ToxicFrog I'm not entirely sure how a package manager is relevant to dev...
@Bob it's super handy to be able to pull in library dependencies (or dev tools) with a single command rather than needing to manually download and unpack everything
(and then make sure your program is packaged with all the stuff it depends on, because god knows the OS won't install that stuff for the user)
Bob
Bob
@ToxicFrog I've also used VS as a code browser and editor and then compiled on Linux... because all the other IDE options were shit (and even Vim + plugins or cscope didn't really work out)
@ToxicFrog Ah. Library dependencies: NuGet
though I suppose that doesn't really apply for native code
I've never used nuget but I thought it was .NET specific?
Bob
Bob
@ToxicFrog Technically people have distributed full applications over it (see: OneGet, Chocolatey). But it's not usually used for native libraries, I think.

14:56
VSCode is getting up there, though. At least for scripts; I've not tried it for C++ yet.
@Bob not sure, this was around...2013? 2012? I haven't really been paying attention since I stopped having to care about windows for school or work.
I haven't used code::blocks in a looooong time, I remember it basically being like VS but slightly worse in every way, but this was like...2004?
Bob
Bob
@ToxicFrog Ah. 2015 and especially 2017 added/improved support for Makefile-based projects and remote debugging (incl. on Linux)
NetBeans I haven't used, IDEA is ok if you're using one of the languages it likes and have huge amounts of RAM, and Eclipse can die in a fire

Some of Microsoft's early products included hidden Easter eggs. Microsoft formally stopped including Easter eggs in its programs as part of its Trustworthy Computing Initiative in 2002. == Early easter eggs == In Microsoft QBasic, there is an easter egg where the developers' names can be seen at start up, printed in colorful text, flying in one letter at a time from every corner. This only works in QBasic, not the older QuickBASIC, and is best seen on an older, slower machine. == Windows == Windows 3.0 has a developer credits page which may be accessed by setting the focus to the deskto...

Supergirl is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by writer Otto Binder and designed by artist Al Plastino. Supergirl first appeared in a story published in Action Comics #252 (May 1959) titled "The Supergirl from Krypton". Kara Zor-El is the biological cousin of Kal-El (Superman). Since the character's comic book debut, Kara Zor-El's Supergirl has been adapted into various media, including merchandise, television, and film.
