I have my diagnostics tool on my external hard disk drive. But when I connect the drive, everything on that computer slows down to a crawl and some actions can simply not be done. Long story short, I have to find another way to access my diagnostic tools.

One of the most challenging aspects of indoor sports photography is getting the colors right in post-production. Even with the raw image data to work with, I have to adjust each image individually by hand. The indoor fluorescent lighting is inconsistent due to 60 Hz strobing, which means the color can change dramatically between images, even for compositionally identical images in a sequence, such as images of a basketball player shooting free throws.

Apparently some of the newer Canon models have an "anti-flicker" shooting mode

Heck, even my Pentax has some degree of anti-flicker capability.

I took a bunch of photos at my son's martial arts club using a D90 with a 50mm F1.8. The club is lit with overhead fluorescent lighting, and I was getting some weird results where some shots are "white", others have an "orange cast", and still others are partly white and partly orange in the sam...

I don't get mismatched colors within the same image (presumably due to the anti-flicker feature) but it can change dramatically from one image to the next.

If the shots are compositionally the same, there should be a way of picking a white/gray for one photo, adjusting the WB to desired and programmatically targeting the same output profile for the other images in the sequence

@bertieb There is, but it's unreliable due to variability.

Like I said, I adjust by hand, using a color-calibrated monitor and the software's histogram as a guide.

I shoot in RAW+JPEG and spend the time to fix images in post because I take image quality seriously.

I guess I've seen ones where the 'explanation' was a reprimand for not a priori being familiar with meta-established convention

Though I would stress that's a small minority / only a few, in the grand scheme of things

And not having meta-posted about it and gotten it off my chest when I had the links to hand it was a rant waiting to get out

I still feel a bit like a new user at times -- when does that go anyway, incidentally -- so I'm perhaps a bit quick to jump on the 'defend the new guy' bandwagon (even in cases like this where someone doesn't exactly invite the 'kid gloves' treatment)

I hope this didn't feel directed at the mod team or at anyone in particular (esp @DavidPostill); moderating is a long mostly thankless job and I have gratitude (and no issues) for those who do it :)
