Bob
3:00 AM
@JourneymanGeek could you hold off on rebooting for a sec so I can grab some screenshots?

Its still updating

Bob
lol
please don't break

lol
I have a backup ;p
which should be broken in the same way
and its entirely pausible I'll need to redo php-fpm/lighttped

Bob
ow

lol
why? I backed up right after I installed veeam ;p

3:07 AM
@Bob, do you still get the 4G+ icon on your phone in nougat?

Bob
@PowershellforLinux on Xperia, yes. on S7, never had it. I think.
or maybe it happens on the othe rnetworks but not voda

@Bob :-o
Mine was on like, 24/7 in Australia
Does Vodafone not have 2x20 or more?
Mine's gone awol since the Android 7 update :-/
I think it might be the custom csc but that seems stupid that the only network with 4G+ in the UK would disable the 4G+ logo

Bob
@PowershellforLinux it can do 3x10...
no 20 though I think

@Bob err I meant more than 1x20 me dumb
Anything over 20Mhz total counts, or used to. I've seen it like once or twice since I updated but I have no idea under what circumstances now.
I should probably just look at the csc code
> Donald Trump has said the United States will "solve" the nuclear threat from North Korea, with or without China's help.
"If China is not going to solve North Korea, we will. That is all I am telling you,"
facepalm world war 3 anyone?
I should invest in bomb shelter stocks

just got 2 x Samsung "J3-V" (late 2015 Samsung J3, branded with Verizon, and 16 gigs of NAND instead of 8) with a Spreadtrum SC9830, for a total of $239 for two phones, unlocked and no contract, for swapping the hotspots' SIMs into temporarily when we go to the verizon store to upgrade one of our lines to the new unlimited
they freak out if you have hotspots on your smartphone data plans

3:20 AM
:-o
You actually bought $239 of phones just to show shop staff while getting an upgrade? Or do you trade them in or something

o0
I didn't realise samsung used spreadtrum.
also, do you have any other use for the phones after that or...? ;p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek answer added. that took a while
0
A: Unable to do release update on ubuntu 14.04

BobWhat you have there is the upgrade script itself tripping over invalid data somewhere. You need to find and remove the invalid data. In this case, it was the package veeamsnap. Removing that package should fix it. But because this is different for each case, I'll describe the steps taken to reac...

only 30 mins good job

Bob
I wonder if anyone has an easier way :P
@PowershellforLinux can't really check for 4G+ right now cause I've got a shitty signal here :\
well, no, it's a great ("full") signal. except it's still only 15/17
@allquixotic feels like you could've gotten cheaper phones if it's just for that :P
@JourneymanGeek I'm off the server, if you want to delete the account

@Bob yeah

That's not quite right ;p

Bob
3:36 AM
o.O

and man this is so scary.
I'm a bit worried about postgres updating to a new major version mainly

Bob
flopf
@JourneymanGeek the bug report you linked has a much more efficient way of arriving at the same conclusion -_-

tried that
didn't find it

Bob
O_O
it's... not much different from what I did
last line printed before the crash?

something about metapackages

Bob
3:47 AM
*shrug* might be useful info in your question then :P

;p
I don't remember what it was exactly

4:08 AM
I wonder if they have this stuff in Daiso
@Bob floppy floof?
Bleh my server is still on 14.04.1

Bob
@JourneymanGeek how's the ticwatch going? :P

@Bob so far so good
I'd guess it might do a day or two on battery
@PowershellforLinux not that likely

Bob
cause I've started looking at watches (again)
Android Wear 2.0 is just out...
but yea I'm mostly interested in battery life and maybe water resistance

@JourneymanGeek but I have to import it from Japan :-(

@PowershellforLinux there's no daisos in UK

4:21 AM
Seems like they're zero UK sellers but a dozen or so posting direct from Japan
@JourneymanGeek yet

Bob
Apple Watch is a no-go as a non-iPhone user :P

@Bob eh. I like it for what I paid, and I'm half certain they chamfered the glass now

Bob
Pebble is dead
Samsung Gear is a maybe but waiting on S4
As far as Android Wear... options LG, Moto, Sony... actually Sony might be a good choice. It's cheap at least :P
Huh. 4x Cortex-A7. That's ... more powerful than some of those tablets
urk, <2 day battery life. nawp.
@JourneymanGeek how's the software support? :P

@Bob ok, other than the screen (it chipped then cracked on the first one) build quality on the tickwatch is good. Screen is actually quite nice otherwise. The non android watch android is odd.
It has its own appstore. In theory you can enable android ware compat mode, but most things don't work that way
I guess its work in progress

Bob
@JourneymanGeek your ubuntu question HNQ'd o.O

4:26 AM
In your case though, you can write stuff
0_0
whaaaaat?
Nice!

Bob
it's not even a particularly HNQ-worthy title :P
"Release upgrade on Ubuntu 14.04 gives me a Unicode error" maybe? idk :P

lol
I was going to throw you a bounty from aibobot ;p

Bob
btw, @JourneymanGeek, you a word in the first sentence :P
@JourneymanGeek :S
not much point in that?
@fyrepenguin I didn't understand your warning. Now, after two hours of reading various pages on that website, I do. — Andrea Lazzarotto Mar 29 at 15:40

4:51 AM
Does my international LTE-A S4 really only support Australian CA combinations?!

5:06 AM
I wonder what happened to this guy

Bob
5:18 AM
@PowershellforLinux o.O

5:38 AM
._.
supervisor is broken
we're good otherwise I think

Bob
@JourneymanGeek ...that's odd

@Bob supervisor apparently uses a patched version in ubuntu that's broken
and moving this to systemd is a planned thing

5:54 AM
ola!
That was remarkably simple

6:13 AM
right
lets see if we broke everything

Bob
lol
@JourneymanGeek I suppose it's time for me to set up my AU server too...
hm
Egyptian or Norse mythology?

lol
Freya sounds like a badass name for a server.

Bob
I feel calling a server loki would just be asking for trouble :P
@JourneymanGeek that it does
@JourneymanGeek Your q is now 7th on the HNQ list o.O

0_0
I HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT IS!

Bob
must be a slow day...

6:17 AM
Hi guys

Bob
Hi Fish

hi
that's clearly a Dolphin

Bob
So... they want AllTheFish? *shrug*

I am a mammal

... no respect for the classics.

6:19 AM
No we are thanking for all the fish

(H2G2 reference)

Bob
@JourneymanGeek lol

guys I have a question to ask
maybe you can help
I have a windows scheduled task which runs a .but file
this bat-file triggers a nodejs instance to run, which means that the task is never finished until I stop it, as long as the website is running.
is there a way to make the task fnish as soon as the batch file is executetd?

hm, have something spawn the task, then die?
tbh, this probably would be a better fit for the main site, especially since we'd need to see your batch file.

yup I mean right now it opens the prompt and the prompt has to remain open in order for the website to keep running

6:23 AM
OH
lol

Bob
oh, just stick a start in front of your nodejs call :P
start nodejs blah

^ that

Bob
that'll make it launch a separate instance and let the parent close

as long as you don't mind the prompt coming up and vanishing

I do not
thanks

6:24 AM
@Bob I was totally thinking my talking sound switcher hack.
well, there you go.

for all the fish

6:41 AM

Bob
7:14 AM
@JourneymanGeek OVH AU uses HGST drives :P
HUS726020

Bob
7200 RPM SAS 2TB

ooh, the good stuff

Bob
that's pretty big for a SAS drive...

Nearline I guess

Bob
7:16 AM
no it's not
@JourneymanGeek what exactly makes a drive NL anyway?

@Bob essentially "desktop" drives with SAS are nearline
so 3.5 inch, regular sized..

Hm
My two closest friends are not getting science in 11th grade as their streams :(

7:43 AM
This sucks.

In the "I won't be in the same class as them" way?

Yes
Also, they cannot pursue Computers with Humanities
One of them is really into 3D and the other into robotics

eh. maybe
3d is mostly art folk
I've worked in the industry. Most 3d artists are not that technical

Well, that's good to hear.
And he isn't the history and geography type
But he isn't taking painting either

the comments are hilariously bad

7:46 AM
Also, girlfriend's mum said to her "He looks so thin and fragile" about me. I'm positively annoyed at this.

Also, its not quite the workers, its the companies, and somewhat predatory contract practices

hello

hi
@JourneymanGeek Uhhhh. Is the "MORE FROM THE TIMES OF INDIA" section the same for you? (all about sex?)

@Rahul2001 she's Portuguese?

7:50 AM
@satibel Nope

a friend of mine is, and she said that to me once x)

@Rahul2001 that seems adblocked for me
I'll take down the link
Sorry

I don't expect sensibility from Indian news organisations anyway :P

:36458800 instead of Pednekar, I read Pedobear XD

I thought the times was fairly reputable?

7:53 AM
Literally the only sources I trust are John Oliver and vox.com
@JourneymanGeek Indeed, but their city-sections are filled with crap, and their website is super slow and buggy

@Rahul2001 the only other source I have is in tamil

@Rahul2001 you can also trust fox and RT ... to be biased.

lol
Oh, and Stephen Colbert is cool

though together they are good sources, because you get 2 opposite points of view.

7:58 AM
@satibel One unbiased source is always better than two conflicting unbiased sources

I never trust any source to be completely unbiased.
even if I was at the source, I'd still probably be biased.

user226528
Anybody up for laughing hard? Look at this question: superuser.com/questions/147524/…

user226528
And of course, to the answers that so many users have given. And to my answer!

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Wrong! You should write "LOL" not "Hmmm"!

8:08 AM
@FleetCommand actually I'm surprised no one thought of it before

@FleetCommand your answer is false.

user226528
@satibel Is not! Is not!

user226528
@satibel Test it right now: Create a new folder in one of your long-untouched folders. And then notice its Last Modified Date change.

counter example :
my download folder has been modified 28/03/2017
the last file is from the 23/03/2017

lol

user226528
8:12 AM
@satibel Probably because you downloaded it on 28 not 23.

user226528
@satibel Somehow you read my answer as: The last modified date of a folder is always that of the LMD of last modified file in it.

@FleetCommand try deleting the folder after that, the long-untouched folder's date doesn't go back.

user226528
@satibel Why should it? The last file in was placed there on 28 March 2017. That is still a fact.

yes, but it is not a perfect answer to the question. ^^

@FleetCommand Your answer appears to be false
I have a folder from the 27th. I just created a new file in it, and edited an old one. The LMD did not change
Wait...

user226528
8:16 AM
@satibel That's exactly what the OP wants. So, perfect or not...

How do you check the LMD of a folder anyway?

@FleetCommand he wants to change it to a file in the folder, if the file isn't there anymore, your answer is false.

user226528
@satibel He wants to update it not postdate it.

@satibel Well, if a file is being deleted from it, technically, the folder is being modified

user226528
@Rahul2001 @satibel I just tried. Deleting a file on Windows 10 does update the folder date.

8:23 AM
@FleetCommand but it doesn't update it with "the date of a folder with the latest modified date of any of its files"
though, that might be semantics, for me update doesn't always mean moving the date up.
it means making "up to date" so even if "up to date" is with a date before the current one, it's still an update.

user226528
@satibel I have studied pragmatics in collage. When people say "update it", they are afraid it might be left behind the time. If he meant what you mean, he'd have said "change it to match that of" or "synchronize with".

though, I'm nitpicking but some people might look that answer and it might not fit their need. ^^
and if you copy a file with an old modified date, it will update with the current date, not the date of the file.
also, it doesn't work recursively
at least on 7
\1\2\3

@FleetCommand, I thought this might be a better arena to discuss your last comment. You don't think that's a bit harsh? I understand that you adamantly disagree with the Close Vote decision, but just because people don't share your point of view doesn't make them incompetent.

1 and 2 are from 2016
I've pasted 3 which is from 2003
result:
1 is still in 2016
2 is in 2017
3 is in 2003.

Bob
9:20 AM
@JourneymanGeek so, trick to hnq is lots of pictures? :P

I might have dropped a link in AUGR
Other than that donno

user226528
@Run5k Not sharing my point of view isn't what concerns me. Not sharing their own point of view is. Pretend the other question never existed and this question was the first. Now, try this: Copy and paste answers from that non-existent question into this question. What's the likelihood of them being flagged as "Not an answer"? I'd say close to 99%.

user226528
The fact, however, remains that to close a question, the vote of five hypothetical idiots overrules the vote of one million savants. So, when you say such and such person has voted many times, it beckons the question: To which category does this person belong: Hypothetical idiots or hypothetical savants? Or some interim category?

@FleetCommand If you want to disagree with the close votes and want to discuss reopening the question then the correct place to raise your concerns would be a question on meta.su.

user226528
@DavidPostill And if my concern is the absence of meritocracy and faultiness of democracy? Where do I discuss that?

9:35 AM
@FleetCommand also meta

user226528
Technically, the answer is "Meta meta" which doesn't exist. Also, Meta isn't discussion friendly. The format simply doesn't promote a discussion.

Meta.se is meta meta.
Or here, post walkies

user226528
Err... Meta.su and Meta.se are Russian!

user226528
And seem to have no connection with us.

user226528
Guess I have to practice deciphering your comments.

9:41 AM
Meta.se is meta.stackexchange.com
And I've gotten things reopened on our meta as a non mod
The question doesn't feel that great tho

user226528
@JourneymanGeek That's always the problem here. The right thing to do is always overkill.

user226528
People tend to oppose not just because I am wrong but because supporting me would be overkill.

@FleetCommand well I think the question is kinda broad
@FleetCommand or they disagree with you.
For the dupyness, how substantially different would the answers be?

@FleetCommand Doggy should've capitalized correctly
Meta.SE would be easier to understand
Afternoon peeps

@M.A.R. doggy is on walkies. Phone keyboards suck

user226528
9:50 AM
@M.A.R. I am surprised to see you here this time of the day. Shouldn't you be at work or school?

@FleetCommand School is over

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Can't say that about all keyboards. Which phone are you talking about?

@FleetCommand @FleetCommand most of em. You try typing with paws

user226528
@JourneymanGeek LOL

user226528
Try SwiftKey.

9:54 AM
@JourneymanGeek Type with your tongue

@M.A.R. not accurate enough

@JourneymanGeek practice makes perfect
