Most passengers scream like they're gonna piss themselves as I approach double the speed limit.
Speaking of speed limit, maybe I should move to Germany
Bob
Bob

@PowershellforLinux ?
@Bob He can drive on the autobahn, instead of being banned from autos.
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek the ? was the "something I was going to say to you"
ah ;p
I thought it was about the "Speaking of speed limit, maybe I should move to Germany"
boingboing.net/2017/03/31/idiot-instantly-regrets-trying.html Hah karma isn't a b****. its a pack of dogs.
01:15
Mornin'!
Good morning!

2 hours later…
02:55
Can anyone make e laugh... need a good laugh 😂
Lol the new march update video activated Cortana FaIL
03:30
@Bob Yeah some stupid restriction on the new Nougat firmware means VoLTE only works when not using LTE only mode.
Figured out a workaround, thanks to the new Nougat firmware also having WCDMA bands now in the band disable menu... since LTE only disables VoLTE, just set it to LTE/3G Auto and disable the 3G bands via band disable -_-
Oh and I had a dream about taking a train to see Bob but the train was in England and it's impossible to take a train from England to Bobland
03:53
who wants to downvote my stack overall thread
:O where's bobland
oh....
powershell for linux are you someone I know
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I can't downvote it, I don't have the rep to do it with.
someone who ignores me
@GypsySpellweaver I didnt post it yet aha
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere Can't post it till they open that stack anyway.
@DavidPostill where are you
04:10
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere probably asleep
<cry> adromedia is back to disconnecting me every match...
had to sit there for 5 minutes and trace rout then ping 100 iterations (less then 50 ms between good ) I dislike ea support...
huh? whats that
you need evidence like that to supply to your ISP?
04:25
@JourneymanGeek Are the general standards and guidelines different in AskUbuntu for improving posts than here?
Yeah, they set their own
Ours is probably the default one
I'm working on a meta answer but its complex.
Figures. Tripped across an answer where the link was dead, but it was on archive.org, so I re-linked it and then carried over the meat of it for later.. Only one review so far, but it was rejected cause it "addressed the author of the post"??
21
A: What's the easiest way to set up a LAMP stack?

Abhishek BhardwajThe easiest way to install LAMP with PHPMyAdmin is using: sudo apt-get install lamp-server^ phpmyadmin You don't even need to install taskel. More details can be found here.

Funny thing is the reviewer has a dead imgur link in his profile ;P
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic how's the watch? :P
@allquixotic actually, how is the battery life?
@GypsySpellweaver just ask about the rejection on their meta
sometimes it's site policy, sometimes it's a rogue reviewer
04:39
@Bob Nah, it takes two to agree, and I don't care that much. It was a "while I'm here" correction. I'm not a Ubuntu user, though I will be playing with it soon anyway. That answer is good and the rotten link don't really hurt, it was just extra info for others to use, but not a deal-breaker for the answer.
@Bob navigating: awesome; texting: awesome: phone calls: awesome; but there are about 10 third-party apps I wish had Watch apps but don't (yet?)
@Bob better than Apple stated. they said 18 hours but I've not plugged it in for 12 and it's at 86% battery
I think their 18 hour estimate includes rather heavy usage, and I didn't use it all that much on my first full day except for a quick phone call, a few texts and about 20 uses of Siri, plus numerous Activity goals
also apparently the new watchOS improved battery life a bit and the 18 hour estimate is from the pre-release hardware/OS
also, as long as it's connected to your phone over bluetooth, all the heavy lifting gets done on the phone, so your watch acts as little more than an external touchscreen / microphone / speaker for your iPhone
so the iPhone is what does the more compute intensive stuff and the watch just passes data over bluetooth
it keeps telling me to stand up - probably a good thing, honestly
Bob
Bob
hm. I often like covers more than the original :P
@allquixotic not bad... might get 3 days out of it
which puts it on par with a samsung watch (tizen os)
the android wear ones are still like 2 days max
nothing like the pebble 10 days :(
I last charged my pebble exactly a week ago and it's still not given me a 10% warning yet. and that's first gen.
dunno what I'll replace it with when the time comes
was looking at their new ones before they ... went poof
04:56
Gear fit pro 2 for me probqbly
Bob
Bob
@PowershellforLinux which is still in the 3-4 day range :\
and that's best-case
I could accept 3 days, charge twice a week. not nice, but acceptable
I want a Pebble Time 2 :(
lol. /r/Windows10 has a nice theme going on
05:32
@allquixotic Its funny when you get a reminder... when you just stood up.
Worst time to announce something like this
@JourneymanGeek Why the worst time for this?
@GypsySpellweaver April First.
You donno if you should take it serious or not
Oh yea. Just like Dance Dance Authentication :)
Oh, that is totally serious
So was granting a license to your soul on GameBox ;P
I'm in the process of closing out ~90% of my GoDaddy products now. All but registrations, and those will be gone later too.
Been a good ride with them, but no longer competitive in the market I use.
05:47

Brian
My girlfriend's WiFi connection just had to go down today so she can't see my April fool's day prank. FML
@Bob What's the old stuff from?
Bob
Bob
@GypsySpellweaver boxes in the garage :P
got like 400MB of RAM in 5 sticks
not quite as old, but:
also, found a Zip drive! :D
07:11
Cool
Bob
Bob
(this isn't the first time I've done this... I tend to forget)
Guess you'll have to call that your "Lazarus Box." Use it to resurrect the dead. :D
Bob

I don't even have a parallel port anymore :(
Or are you a budding paleontologist ?
Bob
Bob
good ol' SCART
07:18
Never had anything with SCART in it. No BNC connectors either.
Correction, no BNC in computers, Had a aircraft band radio with BNC connectors.
Bob
Bob
it came with an adapter to composite (RCA) I think
Bob
Bob
07:33
that's a rather sparse psu
Not too bad, for the times. 2x HDD, 1x CD, 1x 3½, and 1x 5¼, plus the motherboard. What more could you ask?
Bob
Bob
@GypsySpellweaver heh, I've gotten used to seeing an extended 2x2 for the motherboard, then another 2x8 for the CPU...
and of course you get SATA power connectors now
Nice to remember where you've been? Shows how far you've come. :)
Lots of people now wouldn't even recognise the 3½ power plug.
I always thought SCART was more of a european/franco german thing
heh. My monitor bias lighting is powered by a modded Floppy power plug
Bob
Bob
07:54
@JourneymanGeek It is. Not too sure how I ended up with it :P
@GypsySpellweaver Those still come with a lot of modern (even the modular) PSUs!
My AX860i had one
08:13
@Bob mine is semi modern, and modular
and it was a molex to floppy so I guess it was an "in case" kinda thing
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek yea, that seems to be how they do it these days
cheap and simple to add, keeps those few customers happy, doesn't lose other customers
yeah, as I said, worst day to announce serious stuff like that ;)
Bob
Bob

09:39
@FleetCommand Prank backfired.
@Rahul2001 Oops. What was the prank and what happened?
She got really worried
I was such a big asshole :(
But eh, she's awesome, I'm not sure if I deserve her
user226528
10:00
@DavidPostill He asked me if his prank is taking it too far. I told him he was looking at "too far" in the rear-view mirror.
user226528
I probably should have complemented it by saying "turn back!"
user226528
...before going past the point of no return
I did try to warn him by asking if he has a backup. Probably too obfuscated.
@Rahul2001 Apologise with flowers and nice box of chocolates :)
Give her a 10900 bucks shopping coupon ;)
user226528
10:21
@Rahul2001 Did you do the prank in the spirit of 1st April?
@FleetCommand yes
oneth
user226528
Down here, everyone knows what's 1st of April but no one does pranks. In fact, we have a strong no-pranks innate principle.
@FleetCommand hm
user226528
But people do all sorts of crazy stuff on 4th of July.
user226528
10:23
Like jumping through fire.
user226528
Idiots...
@FleetCommand You in the US?
user226528
No.
user226528
We don't even use Gregorian Calendar.
10:24
Oh
And a bottle of rum!
user226528
10:27
It is hard to look at the plus side of "people putting themselves in harms way instead of others" when the harms way involves serious burns. And to people who don't even care that U.S. became independent that day.
user226528
Are you a pirate? ;)
user226528
Huh! This website is blocked in my region for ... copyright infringement!
>"Ho, Ho, Ho, And A Bottle Of Rum"

Santa's stressed out as the holiday season draws near
He's been doing the same job now going on two thousand years
He's got pains in his brain and chimney scars cover his buns
He hates to admit it, but Xmas is more work than fun

He needs a vacation from bad decorations and snow
Mr. Claus has a has escape plans, a secret that only he knows
Beaches and palm trees appear night and day in his dreams
A break from his wife, half-frozen in life
The elves and that damn reindeer team
...
@DavidPostill . . .
@FleetCommand . . . Are you Iranian, by any chance? o.o
user226528
10:32
@M.A.R. Do you think I would have told you if I were? Also, Iran has no copyright relations with any country. It is unlikely to block anything for copyright infringement.
@FleetCommand Well, it's blocked in Iran as well.
user226528
@M.A.R. Impossible. Iran blocks stuff for sex, alcohol, religion, and political reasons.
Well, I'm sitting at home, on an armchair, and pretty sure in Iran. And it's blocked.
reason: Santa.
user226528
LOL
user226528
10:36
@M.A.R. Do people in Iran celebrate 4th of July?
user226528
Never mind. Stupid question. Of course they don't.
@FleetCommand o.o
user226528
Celebrating the independence of America is that last thing an Iranian would do.
Most of them don't know about 4th of July
sup homies
user226528
10:40
@djsmiley2k Sup. Rahul2001 pulled a prank which backfired.
wut, rly?
/.@;]#
He is on the market for a new one.
ok is he ok?
a new prank or a new gf?
sure he isnt pranking us???
10:42
o.O
r u pranking me @FleetCommand ????
user226528
@djsmiley2k He seemed depressed and kept beating up himself
11:00
o_O
I'm okayy
@M.A.R. ugh
But that was a bad decision.
28 days on my enthusiast badge
maybe I'll finally get it xD
I was twice 96 days on Fanatic on Chem, and failed to come back to site the next day
So yeah, that means you're absent tomorrow
> visited 2696 days, 385 consecutive
Showoff
Hmm, my best was 600 days or something.
@JourneymanGeek Why SuperUser is full of people with "political correctness"?
@Boris_yo what do you mean?
Look. I didn't do any mistake here, yet they bothered to reword it:
it's due to the number of changes required I think
it's a bit dumb, you can't just change http to https://
11:13
AH yes
@Boris_yo What's wrong with editing things?
@Boris_yo your image was broken, he needed to do the edits to fix it.
Its for the greater good.
And that.
I don't get why people take having their stuff edited so seriously.
There, improved more
Amusingly if he had used the SE upload tool and added in a description of the item, he could have hit the required number of characters easily
and made it more accessibility friendly
@M.A.R. What's wrong with touching someone's copyright? Some people don't like it.
11:22
@Boris_yo you've been here long enough to know that being able to edit, and fix each other's posts is an essential part of how we do things. Your posts here are CC licenced too.
@Boris_yo I'm not an expert in these topics, but I believe the content you contribute is no longer yours
@JourneymanGeek Yeah. Though I may not like when I am being corrected.
@Boris_yo deal with it. Especially now that you know why the edit was needed.
@JourneymanGeek A meme would be good.
11:24
Exactly.
Will be going abroad for several months. Should I take TV cable internet subscription or LTE mobile subscription? The latter will probably require 4G USB modem.
I could use Nexus 4 and share 4G through Wi-Fi... but I want to be sure.
Will have to buy subscription through someone living there because company would probably require someone who's resident there. I'd rather do that than pay expensive roaming fees.
12:04
@Boris_yo Where will you be staying? A rented apartment?
user226528
Their 1st of April joke?
user226528
Of course, "Good journalism" is supposed to be the most hilarious part.
12:29
@Boris_yo Or any old 4G phone
Cable will almost certainly provide faster and more reliable connection if you're staying in one place
@FleetCommand Yep. The page also includes a Rickrolled link :)
though, you can get PAYG nearly anywhere with (some) legal ID right?
Unless its for an extended period of time. But then your landlord/neighbour/roomate/cat may be able to help you
lol
the link doesnt even work]
Hair loss product has been lost
@djsmiley2k nice catch ;)
12:35
lol
well smokey didn't get it for some reason o_O
i guess because the link didn't work?
who the heck is ocardwb
o-car-dweeb?
lol
Don't you know? ;p
I was like, damn it I really need to backup my mixer_paths.xml so I don't have to go dig up my old forum threads every time I flash my phone
Randomly perusing through my Google Drive a couple days later... turns out I already have, and just forgotten about it.
Bob
Bob
ow
@JourneymanGeek friend just lost a flash drive so hard it's completely unreadable even as a block device
he's pretty much stuffed :\
@Bob 0_0
No backups?
Bob
Bob
12:46
"no medium found" is a fun error
@JourneymanGeek apparently not!
when ddrescue fails you...
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek we're having the "how much $ is your data worth" conversation now
@Bob Welcome to every other day in the life of my MicroSD cards
13:18
So encrypting my 1TB SATA SSD takes half as long as encrypting my 256GB NVMe SSD because the latter is so shit
@JourneymanGeek Am I supposed to know?
13:31
sure that convo doesnt apply to sd cards? you cant transplant them can u??
@PowershellforLinux maybe.
14:12
man, iTerm2 has more releases than Chromium Nightly it seems
every single time I start it they have a new release
14:33
wow, 9 people hate my Apple Watch
it's working well for me :P
make that 10
get a smartphone
and duck tape it to your wrist
er, I have a smartphone
@allquixotic You left everyone no alternative
14:34
???? lol
it it cant fit through a door yell at the building owners tell em that everyones going to have smartphones taped to their wrists now because of the watch craze so they gotta make doors accompany that
whyso?
@allquixotic you only had a "I made a mistake" voting option XD
btw someone in the somewhere in another SE was like "you know underflows arent a thing right?" guess what I told that guy
Also, I still think step counts and notifications are the only real features of a smart watch.
No one's really worked out a "killer" application for them
14:37
@JourneymanGeek Maps? Siri? Phone calls?
@allquixotic maps, maybe. I've not used the siri equivilent on mine at all..
speaking into a watch... feels odd.
10 year old me would have loved it
Maps on my watch (driven by my iPhone, but still) is awesome
when it's time to put on your turn signal to turn, your watch vibrates to the rhythm of a turn signal
never miss a turn again by having Siri/Google say "Turn left" 100 feet AFTER the exit
it needs a how hot is it over there for ghost hunting @JourneymanGeek then you go around with your hand stretched out haha "zOMGz ITS BEEPING FASTER THERES A HOT PATCH HERE" zOMGZ ITS BEEPING SLOWER THERES A GHOST HERE (cold patch)"
@allquixotic mine's kinda got a weird "almost google watch" OS, and maps support is a big janky
.. no one likes siri we all hear it from our friends\
14:39
a big janky what?
@allquixotic thing
"who let siri out.. ugh now she isnt going away"
I probably meant bit
I know, but I had to make you correct yourself
@JourneymanGeek not if you watched sci-fi
you're just shy to stand out journey :P
like that
14:41
@allquixotic Its more fun if I get upset over it ;p
(also, I'm half certain they fixed the flaw that broke my first watch)
hey guys
I'm allrite matey
quick question
let's say you have a domain name
14:43
what did the chewed apple do to the apple
you've created an email address from that domain name
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere let him speak please.
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere perfect example
@AndyK might want to write that all at once, rather than splitting it up into 20 different lines.
14:45
@JourneymanGeek must be the chips I had for breakfast im a hyper ..b.... girl
alas, some peep have been using that email address, in an unwise manner, to subscribe to emails lists. I'm trying to unsub one email list to another email list. I've been doing that for years now
is there a tool that can do that quick
like unroll.me
ah! This might be a question for webapps
or you can just blackhole the ones you don't want
I want something less arbitrary @JourneymanGeek
oh that sucks. my friend hosted his own email server once he said it was so hard to keep off blacklists because of all the spam traps you can accidently hit if you try to email, people from email lists, Or sometimes even Legit emails that were old clients, but have deactivated that email already... sigh
it is tempting to go my way or the highway but I don't know what's the future hold
14:49
"I'm trying to unsub one email list to another email list." I'm a bit confused are you trying to tell all the email lists to unsub that email?
let's that the email I'm talking about [email protected] has been used to subscribed to MIT education mailing list
issue is there have been many subscriptions I'm not aware of
I'm trying to unsub in a more automatical manner all those redundant lists
you can implement an auto reply to any email that comes that way, is there a standard unsubscribe message people can use, hmm a script that looks for unsubscribe links in the email.

or like Journeyman said, why not just implement something on your firewall level that reads the email header and just drops the mail (not letting it in to your server) if it contains
"to: [email protected]"
that looks confusing let me edit
you can do that with a fw? O_O
if you don't believe in boundaries
errrr, I was thinking filters at your client or server ;p
14:53
@JourneymanGeek that's what I understood too
but Im sure theres something for it, it sounds pretty common
That's really the simplest thing
especially if you have a good mail client
Thunderbird! <3
is your server linux or windows?
linux
14:55
like Im sure someone made a little thing on linux for that
let me do some research
In theory, if you run your own server, you can throw it into your server's mail filters
but that seems kinda ugly
we don't run our own server
it is a hosted solution
I need to ask a few questions
But yeah, mail filters on your own client makes the most sense in this situation
well it depends how much it's worth to you, is this bonjour email getting like 5 emails per second delivered?
14:58
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere no , it is not that often
like do you think it's clogging up your server resources
well then you should take the easiest route possible
time is $$$
but every day I have between 4 to 5 emails coming from list A, B ..Z,..A1 ... plus the emails that count
don't let these people that subscribed waste your precious minutes of life :D
it is more the time needed to check them
it takes from 10 mn to an hour
oh so you do get emails that count, I meant that my idea would block everything going to that email
when you say list,
what categorizes them as a list?
does your web host have spam filtering?
15:00
they should typically come from specific email accounts
if MIT media lab is sending you an email with all their latest activities, that is a list for me
issue is not spam per se, those are just annoying list
so we need something that does, (Andy takes out all the valuable emails into a folder) block all senders remaning in this email folder?
I've been working in email marketing so I know spam first hand ... :)))
so your email was added to MIT education mailing list and MIT doesnt have a way to unscribe you, and if they do, maybe some of the companies who got your email from that list are not friendly and dont want to unsubscribe you?
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I've been able to unsub to loads of them
but I'm not sure what the previous guy did but there are other list emails that keeps coming
15:06
oh
another option is adding an auto reply message saying this email has been discontinued and making a new bonjour email hopefully with a nice name too?

start over?
that's a great idea actually @CausingUnderflowsEverywhere !!!
it is an amazing idea
I just hope that the last person did not subscribe to spam, and that they wont email the new email when they see the autoreply messages
(if the spam sender literally emails whatever email they see) hey if that happens, you can be creative and hide an email to a SPAM trap in an iframe haha, maybe itll get hit and added to a blacklist)
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I wish I had enough time alas I'm often lacking time.
15:37
@PowershellforLinux They have mobile internet with 50 MBits/s download and 20 MBits/s upload for 22 EU.
@DavidPostill At my relative's. Never tried errhhm... AirBnB is it called?
Is it dangerous? This AirBnB...
Watched movie Wrong Turn by the way?

Airbnb is an online marketplace and hospitality service, enabling people to lease or rent short-term lodging including vacation rentals, apartment rentals, homestays, hostel beds, or hotel rooms. The company does not own any lodging; it is merely a broker and receives percentage service fees (commissions) from both guests and hosts in conjunction with every booking. It has over 3,000,000 lodging listings in 65,000 cities and 191 countries, and the cost of lodging is set by the host. Like all hospitality services, Airbnb is a form of collaborative consumption and sharing. == How it works == 3...
Jesus christ how did the dollar get so strong
@Boris_yo unlimited? :O
Most countries in the world can't achieve speeds like that even with hefty data caps
