...
The Force Awakens
My bad

user226528
Okay, Wikipedia is listing TFA at number 7. Is it film number 7, or is ... I don't know ... 1.25?

So, it was 4,5,6 the frankly terrible prequels 1,2,3 TFA is 7 then they released rogue 1.
IIRC the plan is to intersperse "main" story movies with interquels of main charecters
... so I did
One more time and I keep spelling it out
Oh
and there's 2 different official cuts of the original movies
(special editions and originals)
You can't get the originals legally any more, so a lot of people swear by an unofficial remaster that's floating around on the internet.

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Don't worry; I have similar experiences too. I used to call Harry Potter book #6 "MBP" which stands for Mud-Blood Prince. Well... I hated Snape.

i have the early 2000's special editions

I'm dyslexic. Least that's my excuse.

user226528
11:06 AM
@JourneymanGeek I hate Snape. That's my excuse.

user226528
@JourneymanGeek So, the ones I am seeing on Windows Store are ... what? Remastered?

i do not own the "prequels"

probably
(Invoking the piracy in current affairs rule...)
Harmy's Despecialized Edition is a series of fan edits of the first three films in the George Lucas-created Star Wars franchise: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The edits were created by a team of Star Wars fans led by Petr "Harmy" Harmáček, an English teacher from Plzeň, Czech Republic. The original Star Wars trilogy was released theatrically by 20th Century Fox for Lucasfilm between 1977 and 1983. Subsequent releases on home media, such as the 1997 "Special Edition" releases, introduced significant changes to the films, including additional scenes and new comput...

user226528
Ew! There is a picture of Princess Lia in some creepy bikini.

11:09 AM
...

Its ok, she kills the guy who put her in it.

user226528
Ew! Ew! She is standing beside something that looks like Freddy Kreuger's pet.

...
Have you not watched the original trilogy?

can we ban this guy?
3

@Burgi ... there's a SFF mod who has not

11:10 AM
I'm not a fan of Star Wars either

that should be outlawed

I have a soft spot for it cause it got me into sci fi

How did he know?!

@M.A.R. there is not being a fan and then there is missing out on one of the largest cultural phenomenons of the 20th century

Know what?

user226528
11:12 AM
Huh! Its name is Jaabaa the Hot! LOL. I swear it is Freddy Kreuger in the next life.

I'm totally not suggesting tieing @FleetCommand to a comfy chair, grabby the latest Harmy's Despecialised editions and making him watch them.

@Burgi What. Everrr . . . Its director is the richest director of all for making a couple of good and a couple mediocre films
Lucas even makes more than Spielberg.

used to
he sold the rights to disney

That doesn't change mediocre films getting much more than the attention they deserve
We're blinded to the faults of anything we're a fan of
Like ending a sentence with a preposition

11:17 AM
What
!! Caat
Bloody Polish

we are going to do the original trilogy in work on May 4th, we have a cinema grade projector and sound system thanks to the ex-IT director

user226528
Okay, these films are $20 each. So, I am not going to buy all six at once. Which one should I buy first? Impress me. @Burgi @JourneymanGeek

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Uhm.
Uh.
*slinks away*

user226528
Hmm... No response. It seems they don't have a favorite after all.

Bob
11:24 AM
Can't remember how many ✈'s since we added this, but using it makes me 😊 like it was yesterday #Windows10… https://twitter.com/i/web/status/839720837800329216
Editable address bar in regedit O_O
It only took them... two decades?

@Bob That's geologically a small time scale

user226528
LOL... geologically...

@FleetCommand I'd actually start with ANH

@M.A.R. which will become relevant when Windows 10 becomes a geological relic?

Bob
You know, I'm not sure I've actually watched V & VI

11:28 AM
and watch them in machete order nomachetejuggling.com/2011/11/11/…

Bob
Definitely watched IV, think I've watched V, but might've only caught half of VI and read the novelisation? Can't even remember now :(

@TOWMN I just Googled laptop fossil google.com/… Disappointed

user226528
WAIT... There is a novelization? I love books...

All the star wars books have at least one.

user226528
Although I generally read books from which films are made. Never read the other way around.

Bob
11:30 AM
@FleetCommand There's quite a few.
IIRC there's new 'official' ones.

@FleetCommand 4, 5, 6, 7, rogue 1

Bob
And IIRC the old ones were only mostly accurate to the movies.
Technically the movies are canon and everything else is less canon.

user226528
@Burgi Windows Store does not number them. Titles only.

Hm. I just got a community project. I need to get 20 donations of INR 10,000 (150 USD) for children education in rural India. One donation ensures a year of education for one child.
Except that... No one is willing to give that much.

@Rahul2001 The big number makes them think you're asking much?
Also I'm not sure many people are willing to donate that much, yeah
I wouldn't be willing to donate that much at once, although probably my donations during a year do sum up to that amount

11:36 AM
@M.A.R. Hm, should I split it up then?

@Rahul2001 lol

Ask then for half-donations?

Are you a child in rural India?

@TOWMN I am not, no.

Then I'll be happy to donate

11:38 AM
Whaaa. You're joking, right?
Please don't, I'm not in the mood for jokes :/

@Rahul2001 Yep. I dunno much about this INR thing to know how many times you should divide it

@FleetCommand A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens

But to 5000 or 2000 chunks would probably work

What? I'm not paying for your education, that'd be immoral.

@M.A.R. I doubt anyone will pay more than 2,000. Plus, I'll have to do some extreme pursuasion.
Hm. Reddit, perhaps? They have an /r/India subreddit.

11:41 AM
@TOWMN are you trying to adopt @Rahul2001 for tax reasons? ;)

@Burgi no
For all we know it's a scam for him to buy more porn
3

@Rahul2001 Anything that gives easy access

I don't have much experience with reddit, but here goes...

Here gimme $3000
Think of the children!

@Rahul2001 It can't be harder than SE
Only slightly more vulgar

11:47 AM
we have an intern for the week

@Burgi Are they annoying?

Are they useful?
And what happened to your minion?

@TOWMN Uhhhhhhh. No.

@M.A.R. not yet
@TOWMN hopefully, i've got a load of crappy jobs for him to do
@TOWMN nothing, he is back from skiing with bruised ribs

> Herkelman told the attendees in Beijing that Vega is "just around the corner". This sounds encouraging but corners aren't very precise calendar units. However, we have been promised further official details about Vega as the launch date draws closer.
I have a feeling Vega might make my laptop obsolete :-(
@Burgi oh OK. I just hadn't heard you mentioning him for a while
Almost as if he had outlived his usefulness

12:06 PM
@TOWMN . . . his body was subsequently found in a river. O.O

@TOWMN I'll get the quicklime and rug!

12:18 PM
:O
I'm off the phones today
\o/
because there's litterally no one else in
:(

@bertieb no no. That's for burial. You need the quick setting concrete for this

@JourneymanGeek Water-based disposal you say

12:35 PM

@Burgi Did you pick this for a reason? ;p

@DavidPostill nope ;)
does apple use normal rack servers in its data centres or does it use mac pros?

I heard. normal rack servers
though they're building their own too

what OS do they run?

if it is OSX that might be an interesting loophole for hackintosh ;)

1:03 PM
!!caaat

@TOWMN meow

> The head of transportation is also toying with the idea of trolling, driverless buses that set changeable routes based on where riders ask for pickups.
ahahahahahaha

oO

user226528
1:11 PM
Totally fake...

user226528
Tabloids in my country always publish such things.

1:23 PM
@FleetCommand, you haven't seen the original Star Wars movies?

user226528
@Run5k You appear to know the answer already.

@FleetCommand, not necessarily. Occasionally, someone will simply pretend to be uniformed regarding a specific pop culture phenomenon is see what type of reaction they can get.

@Run5k Ahem. Is that an accusation of trolling?

user226528
@Run5k LOL. Why would I drop the pretense when you ask then? The answer is no. But I tell you that the most surprising moment in The New Hope will probably not affect me when I see it, thanks to The Big Bang Theory. I know that Luke will say "You kill my father! Prepare to die!" And Darth Vadar responds "I am your father."

@DavidPostill, not really. I am a rather straight-forward individual: if I thought it was an overt example of trolling, I would say so.

1:30 PM
@FleetCommand no no. You confuse it with the princess bride, where Iniago Montoya discovers the six fingered man is his father

@FleetCommand, there is certainly nothing wrong with that. Even an avid movie fan will typically have a few classics that they haven't seen yet.

user226528
@JourneymanGeek I got it right enough.

Actually.... no ;p

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Feel free to correct me. Until then... I got it right enough.

@FleetCommand he dosen't say prepare to die

user226528
1:33 PM
@Run5k I have seen many classics. In fact, I have seen every Pixar!

user226528
You find me very knowledgeable in that area.

@FleetCommand ...and the iconic "I am your father" line if from Empire Strikes Back, not New Hope.

user226528
Acknowledged.

user226528
@Run5k @JourneymanGeek Do either of you know which Pixar production has the "I am your father" line in it and who says it?

user226528
1:37 PM
Ha! You don't watch classics then!

No... my "youngest" is 22-years-old, so I haven't seen too many Pixar films.

I've not sat and watched a star wars film all the way through.
@FleetCommand toy story 2 - Zerg? to Buzz
just before buzz gets exploded
Am i rite?

user226528
@djsmiley2k Yeah. It was hilarious.

yah

Started editing a post, realised linked resource was in fact a 'blog' written today by same (new) user writing the answer. Do I 1) flag spam 2) edit to include disclaimer about same source
3) put my underpants on my head and say "wibble" ?

1:39 PM
option 3

always option 3

user226528
@djsmiley2k And then Buzz says "Nooooooooo!" and the elevator moves away from the camera on its way down.

Answer may be reasonable, as the blog post might be, but it seems a bit fishy

seriously, I'd say edit it, and/or warn user.

both

1:41 PM
Edit the link out? Or edit a disclaimer in?

@bertieb spam
Advertising their blog without ...

@djsmiley2k Fair enough

tho actually
urgh, tricky one
is the blog spam ?

no
it's an answer, just the guy posted his blog post that answer the question.

As the post doesn't exist purely to advertise the block, I'd just add a disclaimer note at the bottom, or ignore it completely.
There's nothing against linking your own blog.

1:44 PM
I'm for a disclaimer.
@djsmiley2k the trick is that it's a 1 point user created today.

yup
I was a 1 point user once too

Any suggestions on wording?
Put something in for the meantime.
To muddy the waters / thicken the plot further; I almost didn't notice the link at first as it was way at the bottom of a textwall (edited to improve formatting hence query!) which just said 'Blog'.
The spamhammer is tempting, but I try to assume good faith...

spam flag it and let His Dogginess deal with it

@bertieb, I am right there with you: I try to assume good faith and give each post the benefit of the doubt. However, in this particular scenario that question hadn't been touched in over three years. That is rather suspicious.

@Burgi I'd like to keep my 'declined' flag count low, thankyouverymuch :P

1:55 PM
shrug

@bertieb i wouldn't care bout your declined flags
smokey is like 95%+ accurate, and still gets it wrong some times
it's just showing that the spammers are getting good.

99.36 percent helpful, my flags are

@Run5k That's true. There's definitely a number of eyebrow-raising points here.
@djsmiley2k BUT INTERNET NUMBERS MATTER
:P
But yeah, the more you add the things up the more questionable it is
And yet, it walks through the steps needed which the other A doesn't
And the blog includes images
Which are a handy thing sometimes
Does it add value to the community?

it's so good infact it could be a conconical answer..
So maybe a new user saw this post, and went 'oh my blog answers that'

This all might be worth a meta (SU) post as a good number of the obvious meta (SE) are about product affiliations and best practices
@djsmiley2k 'my blog [which I just happened to write today] answers that' ;-)
At it stands it's edited and I left a comment linking to faq, which has:
> **Avoid overt self-promotion.**
The community tends to vote down overt self-promotion and flag it as spam. Post good, relevant answers, and if some (but not all) happen to be about your product or website, that’s okay. However, you must disclose your affiliation in your answers.
Ah ffs Ghetto Chat Markdown

2:01 PM
Markdown breaks in messages which are multiline

:(

Which is the only way to ensure everything aligns well.

If others want to flag that's their prerogative :)

@bertieb I've answered a question and then blogged it before...

@djsmiley2k Aye, for sure- it's not a red flag in and of itself; it's just all a bit fishy

2:04 PM
yah

Probably not worth losing sleep over either way

Q: Your answer is in another castle: when is an answer not an answer?

Shog9I think we can all agree, this sucks: If you've been around a little while, you've probably encountered hundreds of answers like this in various forums, some of them even marked as "The Answer" by well-meaning1 forum admins looking to close a thread. We could try to enumerate the commonly-obse...

But y'all've seen it already probably

if it is spam, then at least we're getting to to the 'constructive' point

@bertieb, agreed. The answer itself is decent, but then the blog actually contains all of the nice screen shots, etc. None of those are integrated into the SU answer.

Aye
New user can't link images either (which I forget) so they may have wanted to include images
(since we're assuming good faith)

2:37 PM
@bertieb heh. actually unless he keeps doing it, that's actually a pretty good way to do it

One of those, according to the source, was the discovery of a plot to bring down a plane with explosives hidden in a fake iPad that appeared as good as the real thing.
welp, that explains it

@djsmiley2k is that an answer that is used to outline roadworks? ;)

3:01 PM
I so wish 365 let us have mutliple accounts signed in like google does
it's such a pita when it gets stuck and can't sign outtan account

3:14 PM
@XKCD blergh, thats rubbish

Bob
epitome is such a funny word
@djsmiley2k ... I think it does
though the switching workflow could be smoother :\
@djsmiley2k I wonder how much you could actually pack into the size of an iPad.
Hi NSA!
@bertieb Beginning of the parser: if (line.includes('\n')) return;

yeah
not much ;)

Back to programming batch files :P

wtf?
1 asking for a list?
2. errr wut

he should know better too

3:24 PM
yah 5k

@JourneymanGeek very high rep user

I dunno if there's a vote to close for asking for a list?

@djsmiley2k VLQ

The one about product recommendations has been used historically
"Too broad" was also useful for List Of X questions, but it's less so now after the wording change

Well, its definately a learning material rec

3:29 PM
I was actually surprised to see the larger sites don't like learning material recommendations, considering my home site was a little little site

@Burgi I did not exist then

@Rahul2001 you've got your sexting and your snappity chat, stop complaining!

@Burgi I indulge in neither
And that was my argument for not watching Star Wars

Have you at least seen Star Trek?

Learning Material Reccomendation?

3:34 PM
and, meta question on it...

with nothing more than 'why?'
WHY? WHHHHHHHHHHHHY?

@BenN I have both Star Trek and Star Wars downloaded, just haven't gotten the time to watch either yet

@Bob They only work one way at both ends
Defeats the point, since now I have a cable that only works when you insert it one way round, but because it's designed to go in both ways, you can't tell which way round you have to insert it -_-
So it not only fails at the "insert any way round" business, it's even worse than a standard cable because at least a standard cable won't go in the other way round
@Bob Still, kills it far less than it would on a Samsung phone. Somehow it manages 8+ hours of 4G hotspot use and still has 50% battery left.
As a secondary/backup phone it still has 4G on all the time along with all the background tasks and push notifications and sync and whatever.
I'm on day 4 now and it's still got 40-something percent left
@Burgi Inspect the aerial? >_>

Bob
@TOWMN Ah, that's better than my xperia -_-

(And my 4G hotspot use is pretty battery-heavy, since I never let it idle or go into powersave with my constant ping running in the background)
But 4G chipsets in general seem a lot more power efficient today than they were 4-5 years ago
3G even more so
I remember in the first days of HSPA/+ a decent Nokia phone would use about 1.2W in DCH active, and 0.6w in FACH. Nowadays it's less than 1/4 of that.
IIRC my S7 measured about 120mA in DCH active, and that's with the screen/CPU/etc. on and everything

3:46 PM
@Bob Parser? I think I missed the reference :s
@djsmiley2k Wait hold up- it was a plot to do that, or they actually discovered a fake bomb-y iPad that looked as good as the real thing?
If it's the former, then I just 'discovered a plot' to attack a flight using fake screaming children and obnoxious people that "appeared as good as the real thing"

@djsmiley2k Uhh yeah...
So turning it on and x-raying it wouldn't have helped at alllllll on a fake ipad
Oh hey it's nearly April
I might get a ton of tax back next month

@bertieb :D

Thousands of £'s of free money? YES PLZ
I might not be broke after all!

@TOWMN I like the fact it's clearly using mission impossible chewing gum
red touches blue, boom.
@TOWMN I likely wont :(

@TOWMN i thought you were a wireless antenna guru

4:01 PM
@Burgi I am, I was suggesting you inspect the aerial though
Cause it should be obvious :-P

i'm not allowed on the roof :(

(Also UHF Yagi antennas work vastly different to typical microwave band WiFi/LTE antennas)
@Burgi Can you not see it from ground level at all?

nope

With a telescope or something? Maybe from across the street? >_>

hmm....

4:03 PM
I once broke a manhole cover... with my feet/body weight

i'll look tonight

I also put my feet through the floor on a bus... so
@TOWMN ¬_¬

@djsmiley2k have you ever picked any cherries?

squinty eyes see better, or something
@Burgi noooo
:D
I didn't get stuck either

Ah fudge, pension contributions

4:04 PM
was it in liverpool? and did @DavidPostill laugh at you? ;)

Can't take those back out :-(
Anyway, should be able to get at least £1500 in tax back

@TOWMN you can but not until you are 68

@Burgi lol

at which time they are worthless \o

If I'd quit my job 6 months earlier I could have just taken it all back out now as cash
6 months? No more like 3.5 months
Dammit
That'd have been over £3000 as well
I really need to keep on top of those pension opt out forms ffs
Bastards keep stealin my money

4:08 PM
u plannin to die young?

A sure way to reduce tax liabilities is to not actually earn any money
Just throwing that out there

Oh sweet I can claim my tax back now, I don't even have to wait till next week
I should have done it 6 months ago, but bleurgh
@djsmiley2k No, but given my current track record I don't expect to be alive at 68 either
At my current rate I'd be surprised if I made it to 38

how do you claim it now? I want mine!
I was working as a contractor, and getting hammered, maybe I will get something? :O

Lol, HMRC's idea of 2-factor authentication is to ask you for a phone number to send a code to when you sign in
"From now on we'll send you a new code every time you sign in"... umm OK
But you just let me enter a new random number without any sort of verification so, er...
Urgh my passport is covered in Australian sweets

o-O

4:18 PM
Dammit need to find my P60

@TOWMN you seem much happier this week

@Burgi :-o

yeah i got my P60's

Second week I've been off my meds actually

i'm just lazy
they'll just send me a cheque or a letter anyway... meh i can't be bothered.

4:21 PM
Must be this stupid sunny weather
@djsmiley2k Unlikely
HMRC aren't in the habit of automatically sending you nice things.

wooo we passed the audit

Oh you mean if you fill out the form

nah I'll get it back via PAYE

It's actually online now and fairly easy to fill in... I'd been putting it off cause of all the paperwork but there's actually quite literally none

or i'll remember and find my P60

4:22 PM
@djsmiley2k Yeah I ain't P'ing or E'ying anytime in the near future I don't think
Just asks you how much your P60 says you were paid and/or taxed
And also asks for your name and date of birth 4 times.
But that's about it

ooo ok

I guess after that bit it'll ask for my bank details to send me my moneyz
But err yeah I have to get my P60 first
I carried it arund with me for like 4 months, then soon as I need it I dinnae have it
Wtf seriously? 8 toilets in a row all full?

bad kabab

What is this shit, does everyone have an alarm that goes off telling them to all go to the toilet at the same exact time?

it's the i just finished work at 5:30
\o/ I've not brought any pop today

4:49 PM
k, now i'm bored :(
ooo kol

If I have the following batch file:
start second.cmd
echo executed!
Then the echo command won't be run till the second.cmd file stops, right?

I think start just kicks off the process and carries on without waiting
You want call

@BenN Yeah, just tested :(
I wanted it to launch in a new window

Oh wait, there's a /wait switch on start

but eh
@BenN YAY!
Thanks :D
