feedback then @Boris_yo
@TOWMN do they have any interesting cell towers in thailand for you to photograph?
@TOWMN (1) The Old Republic - even if they discover midichlorians later, they haven't yet in our setting 3500 years before the movies; (2) They take away the mysticism of the Force and make it scientific
@TOWMN there's only 4 star wars movies.
;p
and one sidequel
@allquixotic you can easily fix that by saying they are force parasites, feeding off the force rather than causing it
@Burgi Yes, and so did Italy, but they both disappeared when I lost my camera's memory card :-(
13:07
@Burgi I don't want to use wordpress because it's overly complicated and filled with bugs. I won't want my blog hacked!
@allquixotic ah
13:22
@djsmiley2k Thanks. Do you know of a way to prevent this from happening when 2 parties are in same room?
why would they be skyping each other?
~:/
you need to lower the speaker volume
or lower the mic sensitivity
@djsmiley2k When testing only.
cringe cringe cringe cringe cringe
don't test in the same room :/
@Rahul2001 ??
@djsmiley2k This mini-series that I'm binge-watching. So damn relatable.
13:28
ah
@jokerdino Er, wrong way around. We are on normal time (GMT) until March 26 (DST).
@DavidPostill DST is normal time?
@Boris_yo go to another room
@jokerdino no, UTC is "notmal time"
Is UTC the same as GMT then?
13:43
@jokerdino No :)
> GMT is a time zone and UTC is a time standard
> For most purposes, UTC is considered interchangeable with GMT, but GMT is no longer precisely defined by the scientific community.
OK, I just wanted to know when DST is ending.
> Daylight saving time 2017 in United Kingdom will start at 1:00 AM on Sunday, March 26 and will end at 2:00 AM on Sunday, October 29
I am confused now.
It hasn't started yet. The UK is in the northern hemisphere ...
@jokerdino BST is British Summer Time. We don't have summer in the winter ...
During British Summer Time (BST), civil time in the United Kingdom is advanced one hour forward of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) (in effect, changing the time zone from UTC+0 to UTC+1), so that evenings have more daylight and mornings have less. BST begins at 01:00 GMT on the last Sunday of March and ends at 01:00 GMT (02:00 BST) on the last Sunday of October. Since 22 October 1995 the starting and finishing times of daylight saving time across the European Union have been aligned – for instance Central European Summer Time begins and ends on the same Sundays at exactly the same time (that is, 02:00...
Daylight saving time (DST) or summer time is the practice of advancing clocks during summer months by one hour so that evening daylight lasts an hour longer, while sacrificing normal sunrise times. Typically, regions with summer time adjust clocks forward one hour close to the start of spring and adjust them backward in the autumn to standard time. New Zealander George Hudson proposed the idea of daylight saving in 1895. The German Empire and Austria-Hungary organized the first nationwide implementation, starting on April 30, 1916. Many countries have used it at various times since then, particularly...
DST means UK is one hour closer to me in terms of time difference. o.O
13:54
TIL
> Observed DST during World War 2, from 1942-1945.
And not any more ...
@jokerdino Yeah, we "spring forward and fall back" ;p
@ThatBrazilianGuy Midnight jogging! Or cycling! Either. It's so much fun!
14:20
@Rahul2001 boring. FLAMING MIDNIGHT UNICYCLING!
@JourneymanGeek XD
@Rahul2001 you can just keep it up-to-date
all software has bugs
@JourneymanGeek thats how i imagine @TOWMN
@djsmiley2k I imagine @TOWMN to be Rita from animaniacs ;p
14:31
can i share some fake adverts that we are submitting to a competition? they are a little... not NSFW but make you gasp
the competition is deliberately meant to be slightly offensive
they are funny though
anyone?
Anyone knows what AVG has to do with HideMyAss VPN?
Is this bundle?
I only need VPN.
HMA is owned by AVG
what you vpning up for?
just rent a cheap server somewhere and run it yourself ftw
@Burgi Oh...
@djsmiley2k To access website that block international people, to use as a way to purchase in countries that block international people.
ah so you'll be changing countries a lot then?
14:43
@Burgi Too complicated and poorly maintained.
@djsmiley2k Mostly US for checkout and access websites that block international customers.
@Rahul2001 What exactly? HMA under AVG ownership gone downhill?
@Rahul2001 they have security updates every 3 weeks... thats more often than microsoft but fair enough
ok click these links at your own risk!
this is the least offensive one:
hi guys, I hate not being a proper linux user yet even after so many years of having ubuntu. I still boot into windows everytime. Only for two reasons, one is evernote and the other is the whatsapp desktop client.
they have a desktop client?
i thought it was in the browser
14:55
@Burgi It's just a wrapped frame of whatsapp web. Funnily, I haven't found one for linux yet
@Nick, why are you not using a virtual machine?
just use tge web client? ;p
@JourneymanGeek Web client won't remember me again after i clear the cookies and cache and whatnot.
@asmith One, I don't know how yet. Two, what do you mean? Do you mean a virtual machine of Windows from within Ubuntu or of Ubuntu from within Windows?
Yes, using a virtual machine of windows from in ubutnu
14:58
lol
I just run multiple machines ._.
and ssh into my linux box
@Nick Or, I am not sure, as I have not tested them, but Wine is also and option
@asmith No point. the only reason I use windows is for evernote. I can only sync my notes onto two devices, a virtual machine will count as another device. I feel the windows version of evernote is more stable that's why I use it.
@Nick Well, guess that forgoes any solution I had
Also, MS Paint. I use windows for MS Paint. But I'm thankful with linux, screenshots get saved in the Pictures folder automatically without having to paste it into paint and saving like in Windows :D
lol
what about nevernote?
also, I run windows for paint.net a lot of the time
15:05
@JourneymanGeek See, the reason I come into this room and talk about my trivial life is quite simply for wonderful suggestions like these. Thank you @JourneymanGeek, if you were here irl, I'd offer you a foot rub.
@JourneymanGeek I thought paint.net did work in Wine
@asmith does it?
I was keeping an eye on the fork (since PDN went closed source) but monopaint seemed to have died.
@JourneymanGeek Worth a test, I thought it did
(and I mostly ssh into my linux boxen anyway)
there;s one thing I need a gui for
I was wondering why you needed a GUI
15:08
@asmith qbitorrent rss feeds
I run many Linux servers at my house, and if all you needed was to do stuff from ssh, there would be no need for the GUI
but I see you do
I've messed with a few options and its roughly the most reliable way for me to download torrents
I've had a pure CLI setup in the past but it was quite terrible
rtorrent + something that would download the .torrent files and stick em in a folder
iirc
@JourneymanGeek rtorrent, and if yoiu're really needy then rutorrent (html front end)
I love my deluge, runs as a service and has a web interface and has plugin for for rss
@djsmiley2k tried that
15:10
No desktop needed
i've used irc plugins with it too where needed.
was messy and had a ton of issues
once i got it setup i had no issues
but then again i'm appently a sadist because I use gentoo xD
Heya peeps
sup @Mokubai
15:11
@djsmiley2k I used Gentoo for a while. I can say from experience you're not a sadist, you're a masochist.
Unless you're one of the maintainers, in which case you're probably both
ah!
Dosen't/didn't do Utorrent protocol
also randomly forgot downloads
Gentoo, the first Linux OS I ever used, ah, to be back in 2001 again
15:16
@asmith Yes, deluge is like one of my top 5 software. Always have it on USB
@Rahul2001 That for me with Plex
@asmith Back when I was about a month old...
@Rahul2001 Thats all the server does that I have Deluge, download torrents and Plex for my home media Library
Yeah, I really should get a seedbox.
I'm playing with openelec for a HTPC
but since my homenetwork is kinda jerryrigged, I'll likely sneakernet movies over
15:24
@JourneymanGeek sneakernet, I have not heard that term is forever, wow
in*
wifi's fast enough for youtube
but most of my videos are a gig and up and transferring em over samba seems unreliabe
learn rsync
openelec is rather limited ;p
I know how to use rsync. Darn thing dosen't really support it. Or anything
i might be able to ssh in but it has one account and no real authentication
What, it runs using Kodi and it does not have a good base for package management to add rsync and use ssh?
pretty much
oh, ssh is supported
but security is... a bit shit
and I mainly use it to play how its made for the dog....
15:29
I would find another distro
Try testing other things till you find something that works better for you
@asmith anything I build would be heavier
and my bottleneck is my network
since I'm forced to use a repeater to get around a deadzone due to... I donno
openelec is about 200mb
the last one is plex, which I use
What is plex? Do I have to pay? What do I get?
15:32
Although I use plex differently than you would if your HTPC is connected direct to your tv, but plex does have a GUI install
oh, in my case it is
over VGA + composite.
I have the world's smartest plasma TV ;p
and it looks best at 640x480
Plex is a media management server, it will automatically catalog movies and songs, it looks just like netflix when you use it
It will download everything about a movie (actors, description, genre, movie poster)
ah, I don't need that tho
I literally just want to plug a drive in, and play from that
(the local hard disk... has died and come back to life at least twice)
and the system I run it on is the third one of the model I own, RMAed 2 ;p
@Nick, yes plex is free to use, they have an online service that you can use if you want to stream stuff remotely using their apps
(which is probably why I don't want to put that much effort into it)
15:36
@Nick, but that cost money
@JourneymanGeek I would stick with what you got for now
@asmith yup
it isn't really spending time on XD
so, yeah I'll just chuck stuff into a USB hard drive periodically
@JourneymanGeek I use to use Kodi, but many years ago, switched when I got an xbox 360 and was able to play movie from my plex server to it, also having the android app and web interface to stream movies is great for me
anyone got any comments on those pictures?
I have an android front end installed
but the keyboard I threw on the system is Sweet
so I prefer that
15:40
@Burgi I completely for got to look at them
@Burgi HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!
Blow your mind
@Burgi I didn't find them so funny, but maybe that's just me ...
@DavidPostill Not even the Blow your mind, really
@DavidPostill they're okay... But my puns are on a different level altogether ;p
15:44
In the basement, in a filing cabinet, in a toilet....
its for something called the chipshop awards where basically the most offensive wins
@asmith No. I know they are intended to be be funny but they are borderline offensive ...
1 hour ago, by Burgi
the competition is deliberately meant to be slightly offensive
@Burgi Really?
15:47
they are being entered to that later this afternoon
I'm just happy I don't know anybody who's been blown up by a suicide bomber or who's had to lie on a trolley in a corridor for 12 hours in A&E ...
@JourneymanGeek Define slightly ;p
@DavidPostill LOL
take a look at last years entries on the website
> Disclaimer The Chip Shop Award entries don't reflect the views, policies or strategies of any organisation living or dead. Some content may be - ahem - in bad taste.
@Burgi Got to say, some of them are, how should I put this, Interesting...
16:07
well you guys do surprise me, i was expecting a couple more "lols"
LOL

catlike typing detected
ugh! as normal stuff on github has terrible documentation
its taken all afternoon for me to figure out you need to specify which item in the object collection you need before you can use the methods i need
@Burgi depends on who wrote it
@jokerdino maybe if you weren't a dinosaur you'd be able to keep up with us humans ;)
2
:...(
@Burgi if it looks like someones name is genocider, you can be pretty sure the documentation isn'#t gonna be great
17:58
@djsmiley2k where on earth did you get "genocider" from?
@allquixotic i thought you were some sort of cat?
ca@atlas:~/mjölnir$ sudo sysctl net.ipv4.ip_forward
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1
ca@atlas:~/mjölnir$ route -n
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
0.0.0.0 10.0.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eno1
10.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.224.0.0 U 0 0 0 eno1
172.17.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 docker0
looks sane
... if I ping from 10.2.0.2 to 172.17.0.2 ... the interface on 10.2.0.19 (host) sees the message on TCP dump ... but does not route it to 172.17.0.x
so ping doesnt work from 10.2.0.2 which has gateway set to 10.2.0.19
is that the local interface?
but if i ssh into 10.2.0.19 ... and ping 172.17.0.x ... it works
the route -n is from 10.2.0.19
wtf am I missing
18:07
firewall?
nope
internal network ... firewall disabled
a routing question like this ... ask on superuser or askubuntu
cause its an ubuntu box
su
also i think theres a thing about forwarding icmp
net.ipv4.conf.all.send_redirects=0 maybe
so echo 1 ito
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/all/accept_redirects
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/eth0/accept_redirects
echo 1 for each of those, then try it
@CaffeineAddiction the above is for you btw
i know
its set to 1 already
18:26
State of the Pre-Order 2001 you waited 12 months for a Wii
State of the Pre-Order 2017 you walk into your Best Buy and buy 1 of 40 Nintendo Switch
LOL just gots to find me a pro controller :-$
@Ramhound You bought a switch? Taste the cartridge!
They taste horrible!
Threw up in the seitchb cause I was desperate
JK
@Ramhound You tried?
No; I read the story
18:47
Well, my Xen adventure is starting up again! Got an old-AF Windows 7 PC converted to a VM... Installed the hypervisor's guest drivers, and it crashed hard. Trying again now
19:04
Over(mis?)heard while walking past a group of 9th graders: "if 3D printers worked, you could print out children!"

19:20
@BenN What?!?!?
That was my internal reaction as well
I would like to know how and why that conversation came up and what was the result, now I am super curious
But I am sure I will never know
19:36
3d bioprinters...
@BenN lol
they have something already they could call that, skin repair using live cells (toss in the words DNA (they do) and you have a bio printer.
My computer teacher totally denied the existence of 3d printers, even after I showed her a video and some printed objects
3
and not the scrape a chunk off to place it somewhere else, this is chew it up and spray it on.
if they ever figure this stuff out, they will be able to spray hair folicles on trump , oh wait maybe they have :-)
20:27
@Burgi Yes! Fake and offensive me likey

1 hour later…
21:35
my PC is too loud
