@MichaelFrank But I'm in the north! It's also been like this for quite some time. Never really found the source of it and my content doesn't look very SG-centric either :\
Looks more PG-centric. If you know what I mean
Eh, the north is only the north until the lines change.

vineshI am trying to download video with src url blob:https%3A//www.youtube.com/23aea5c8-9ae2-40dc-9417-e675ea99b386. Is there a process that can be followed to download all this type of videos?

@Bob That could be useful... Thanks :)

@Ramhound @Ramhound You can say that and I know the history may only show one thing but why would it say 195 at the top of a SU page next to you profile link and badges if a person never had 195. Evidently it was 195 for a few minute. I am just saying I know what it saw before a refresh. I am not crazy even though some may think so :P
I was just wondering why it would say 195 and then 185 after a refresh and not show that in the history.
Now I have to figure out who pinged me 3-4 time almost an hor ago but son't see any messages
@RichManson no idea but you don't have the reputation gains for 195 so you didn't lose 10 points; you had 88 points and lost 2 points; you'll have to accept that.
I was just saying before it could have been an up vote and then someone had second thoughts and changed their mind and reversed it.. That's the only thing I think it could have been.Is that not possible?
I don't even know why that conversation was painful LOL I was just being inquisitive and trying to understand how the math works. I am sure working of the site are talked about in meta.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Unreasonable expectations :P
If Gingerbread's Google backup still works you could consider going that way
long as you don't care about privacy of course
Carbonite seems to work
ah, done
@Bob dosen't do SMSes
02:56
why don't you do SMS, @Bob? whhhyyyyyyy? I just want to text you, but @JourneymanGeek says you don't do SMS.

@allquixotic not international, though?
@JourneymanGeek But new enough to have an SD slot, right?
@Rahul2001 lots of new phones have no SD slot

@Rahul2001 It'd be super old to have an SD card slot. ;)
@JourneymanGeek But OTG!

Phone company has an online activation thing for a simcard
I don't know if it worked
since the bloody thing just throws me into another generic support page instead of useful feedback
@MichaelFrank Uh, I was talking about micro SD cards...
@Rahul2001 Nooo, you all were talking about SD cards :P
@MichaelFrank In today's day and age, micro automatically gets prefixed to "SD"
But what If I'm a photog?
@JourneymanGeek I never got that to work when I went to Australia... They needed a permanent address, I tried the hotel's, but it never actually worked :P
03:12
@Rahul2001 they want a id number, the phone number and IMSI number on the sim card
@JourneymanGeek Bah... I'd just go to the store and ask the guys to activate it while buying the SIM
@Rahul2001 we got 30 dollars off the price of the phone for buying it online ;p

@Psycogeek Interesting. Nylon braided versus normal cable? Which affects resistance? Thought of getting this one but reports are that some people noticed slow charge. Could be raw materials differ from batch to batch.
nylon braiding should only make the cable stronger/more resistant to stretching
it shoudln't affect the electrical properties of it
And what's with all these lightning cables getting burned>
@Boris_yo braided cables are a little more wear resistant in theory
07:56
And fraying too...
I noticed many lightning cables get bent soon, fray and break down at the connector plug.
Why do apple connections always so crap
from wire's into plugs
they seem to go for the thinnest possible cables, and so they just break

08:49
morning
well I am on my search to find the correct mobile trailer thing. and so far i discovered . . . . nobody makes one. It is unbelievable the arrays of things that fall apart , or dont even work on the 1st day with these RVs.
How outraged would you be, if you drive 100 miles and found that more than 5 screws fell out of your vehicle?
And time, has made things worse. there are way more reports of crappy workmanship in the later years 2016 - 17
@Psycogeek american built, what do you expect?
There I am all ready to install my computer, and solar and batteries, but i think it is more like the first 6mo i will be just fixing crap
kid you not the first one i walked into, the (bathroom) door wouldnt re-close after opening. Sales dude says "needs adjusting"
Top it off, even though most of them have "dealers" across the whole country, very few of them will do ANY warrenty service for a trailer they did not Sell . It is sooo bad, that the manufactures themselves stated that you cannot rely on thier own dealers to do so.
@Psycogeek So what fell off that nobody makes anymore?
09:03
dinosaurs
When the manufacture basically absolves the dealers of the practice, they only end up encouraging them. If it was my company , i would be telling the dealers instead they will lose thier authorisation , and no more "fronted" trailers for you.
So there you are in a RV that will cruise across the country, but for the first few months, you need to cling to the dealer you bought it from, going nowhere, just having them fix it over and again.
@DavidPostill people have reported the screws falling off the body, the frame, and the leveling jacks.
even at the dealers with new trailers, you can find at least one thing that is already broken looking.
and the workers at the dealer? youd'a think they would be busy fixing anything. instead they are on the computer and reading the newspaper until the next Sucker arrives.
the sucker being me of course :-) but when I came in looking like a homeless person, they would barely give me the time of day. Tomorrow i will put on a Suit and shave, and still have the same money, and the difference in how i will be treated would probably make me 1mill views on YousaTube
And the prices, 2 dealers 100miles apart, one of them trying to sell the same New trailer for 36K while another is trying to unload the same thing at 23K
within the first 5 minutes , they had already lied 5 times.
He was actually rambling on (about pricing) telling me it will cost more if i have the Standard features of the trailer??? WTF . I could see options (even added before it gets to the dealer) costing more. But this idiot was trying to jack me up for standard items that do come with it, while i am reading the brochure (in front of him) for what was optional.
RV dealers make Used Car dealers look like angels :-) and I have had some red faced yelling used car dealers already (over fraud fees).
get this, they want $500 to show you how to use the trailer. no problem i can read a manuel, and I dont need instructions anyway. Oh it is mandatory.
it takes less than 1 hour to do that.
I am trying to get Away from people like that. With it needing constant service, i will instead be marrying them :-)
I really do not know what to do anymore. there are no other good options, as the 2 dogs are un-welcome in much of the apartments and motels around here. The portable office, movable home thing was the key to leaving this house with my tools , animals and brain intact.
09:37
er. I hate to suggest this but...
but a less than shitty, cheapish one and fix it up? ;p
Cause that's what I sometimes do with computers.
yup
which adds this weird one.
some RV parks do not allow trailers over 10 years old. which should be 100% illegal HUD discrimination etc, that you can sue over if that was "housing"
I assume it is so people like ME dont move in :-)
'twould be fun to do the Suit test there too. show up with my magic (cheap) suitcoat on and coller shirt, might even toss on a tie, and watch them break all the rules for me. Then 10 minutes later switch back into my casual.
and break the dogs out :-) who let the dogs out, who ,who
lol yup
wifes grandma had to sell her caravan

i can never get output buffering to work
13:06
because thats how it works!
@Burgi too broad :)
@DavidPostill don't worry about it, i'm writing a onetime script to generate SQL for a big import job
i've already spent too long faffing about with it
@djsmiley2k Apple's USB-C cables are quite a lot thicker than their lightning cables. Might be because they have to be to not instantly catch on fire; after all, a USB-C cable can in theory power a full-fat laptop, as they do on the new MBP. Also, third-party MFi-certified (Apple-blessed) lightning cables can have some appreciable heft to them (see: Belkin 3m lightning to USB-A cable).
Belkin's lightning cables are so good, in fact, that they're my preferred vendor of all Apple proprietary cables now, over Apple themselves
13:42
the outbuffer was to show the queries as they were generated rather than just at the end
14:01
ugh!
there are no cheap flats :(
@Burgi maybe you should look for 3D V-HOUSES instead; I hear they're much more space-efficient
i don't think they are compatible with the UK infrastructure
14:20
What a strange day
I'm sitting on 150 rep on SF on what felt like a thinly disguised rant ;p

15:06
@allquixotic Nah, the USB-C cable can ID itself as not supporting higher currents.
Also, "power a full-fat laptop" are usually higher voltage while maintaining a low-ish current.
@allquixotic Bah, solution to all cable problems: Don't use Apple...

@Burgi I don't actually look like I'm 18 :P
thats the point of fake id...
@Rahul2001 Well what do you expect if you submit a photoshopped image of you with a beard? Or do you have IDs without photos?

Ryzen 4C/8T die will be slightly smaller than the comparable Kaby Lake part. The exact die size numbers are rather questionable, though.
It appears AMD has sacrificed some vector processing capability for a chip that's cheaper to manufacture.
17:20
Hey there.
Nice face.
@noitsbecky Hello :)
17:35
@Psycogeek And Anker know that!
I have iPad Mini with original Apple lightning cable. FRYS has a deal where Kanex 6 feet is sold at $6.95

Do I need additional cable?
Provided Apple cables break and fray ...
yey a new what if finally
I am not in US which is mainly I asked.
Or maybe add another $6 to get nylon braided one...
@bwDraco you hear about the upcoming Kaby Lake CPUs that will have an on-die Radeon iGPU?
best of both worlds for gaming... the best serial perf (I doubt Ryzen will beat even Haswell) and the best on-die GPU, assuming it's based on Polaris 10 or a cut-down Vega
I'm really looking forward to Ryzen
@allquixotic Yup.

@Adam is that a really posh dried grape?
18:05
i've set up a dual band wifi router for my clients but they say that the 5GHz SSID interface doesn't show up in their laptops..does it mean that their wifi adapter don't support 5GHz band?
does a wifi adapter have to be dual band to support 5GHz band?
on my laptop there are 2 different interface, one for 2.4 GHz and the another is 5GHz..is it somehow possible that i can combine both the interface to act as one and let the wifi router choose to send/receive traffic on either of the bands automatically?
i'm not able to understand my clients' problem..i checked that their wifi adapter is b/g/n and n is dual band so they must catch 5GHz band but it doesn't appear
Yes and no
updated the adapter drivers?
they are updated
the earlier n adapters don't see 5GHz
@Hennes yes for which question and no for which one?
18:19
To use the 2.4GHz band the card needs to support 2.4GHz.
To use the 5GHz band the card needs to support 2.4GHz.

Most card with a5GHz radio support both, the the practical answer is probably "Yes, need to be dual".
Sorry, slow typer here.
is the 5GHz network on a different SSID?
I always put them on a different SSID so it was easier for me to see what I was using.
yes diffrent SSID which they are unable to see and diffrent password
I think that if you name both radio's the same SSID with the same key then they might switch easier
But the easy question should be: which laptop and which wireless card do they have.
they can't even see the 5GHz interface
18:22
If it is a pre 2009 laptop then they probably only to .B and .G in the 2.4GHz bands
Ditto for a cheap .N card.
(N can use 2.4 and 5, and some N cards only do 2.4)
my cheap N card can only do 2.4
according to this article lifewire.com/dual-band-wireless-networking-explained-818279 n is a combination of a and b which makes it dual band so it must support n wifi adapter and their wifi adapter is b/g/n
But asuming that the AP is broadcasting on 5GHz (check the AP or snoop with inSIDDer. And also detecable if you have a 5GHz connection) then either:
1) The other laptop does no support 5Ghz
2) Or support a different standard (maybe only .a for a very old card)
3) or it is configured not to use it
what's the point of n if it can support only 2.4..it was designed to combined a and b to make it dual band
N was in draft for AGES so loads of kit was launched without the full spec
18:24
Aye.
My Dell (feb 2009) shipped with draft N
I spent Eur 29 to replace with with a modern .ac card.
i can see and connect with 5GHz because my wifi adapter is dual band "ac"
So the AP is broadcasting/using it.
Which means the fault is with the other clients.
one of my client has laptop purchased in 2013..his phone can see but laptop can't
this is close to "ask on the main site" terrority
might be a cheap adapter in the laptop
Ask the client for his wireless card model.
18:27
well my question involves discussion so it may not fit in main site
yeah the make and model of the laptops is needed at this point
Start, run, devmgmt.msc, open network might do it.
do your best when framing the question
Uhm, assuming windows though. What OS do they run?
tell me one thing if a wifi adapter is b+g+n..does it make it dual band?
windows 10
18:29
No. I still think there is 2.4GHz only N
so:
b -> 2.4
g -> 2.4
n> at least 2.4
Known: only 2.4 safely known
it's weird..i've read that "a" was 5GHz and "b" was 2.4..they were old so they were combined to make them dual band. Then latest model "ac" is invented which is better than "n"
Where did you read that they combined them.
IEEE 802.11n-2009, commonly shortened to 802.11n, is a wireless-networking standard that uses multiple antennas to increase data rates. Sometimes referred to as MIMO, which stands for "multiple input and multiple output", it is an amendment to the IEEE 802.11-2007 wireless-networking standard. Its purpose is to improve network throughput over the two previous standards—802.11a and 802.11g—with a significant increase in the maximum net data rate from 54 Mbit/s to 600 Mbit/s (slightly higher gross bit rate including for example error-correction codes, and slightly lower maximum throughput) with the...

Q: Random characters showing up on second computer

Matt EversoleWhen I compose an email and type letters on one computer it also shows up in a completely different program on another computer...Ie...I am typing a not and all of a sudden I get random characters showing up coming from another computer using email. How can I stop this?

.a is slow 5Ghz (OLD OLD OLD OLD)
.b (and .g and..) was 2.4GHz

.n can to 5Ghz, but I do not see that it must speak the .a protocol. Just the same bands.
@Hennes It doesn't have to but usually can\
18:33
ok so n is b+g?
Biggest different I read is:
1) Multiple stream allowed (up to 4)
2) [may] do 5GHz.
3) May do smart things with interference (.ac MUST do these. .n MAY. So not all do)
4) Wide channels (then again. .g .had wide channels)
5) Thoughput can be combined
@defalt No. .N is a superset of .g, which is a superset of .b
G doesn't have wide channels. N has optional beamforming, AC has mandatory beamforming
Beamforming, that was the term I was looking for. Ta
@defalt @noitsbecky is our resident wireless comms guru
Hmm, I had wide channels. Does that....yes. My old lLinksys is also a pre-N and not a .g.
My error.
18:36
she takes holiday snaps of cell towers
I rememebered 40MHz being used on the old setup.
so that's why my clients can't see that interface..their b/g/n wifi card can't see 5GHz band
There were a few manufacturers with proprietary wide channel extensions on G but that's non-standard and not part of G
afk, food
LInksys WRT160N, I guess the name should have told me.
18:37
Derp
Same question again: which wireless card do your client have?
All the same? Varied? OUtput of devmgmt.msc?
it is rallink wireless b/g/n
b/g/n = 2.4Ghz only
I actually have no idea what this conversation is all about
I'm just butting in to one things I see
The lack of a in "b/g/n" indeed is a good hint.
@defalt Yes
18:41
@noitsbecky aaah i was looking for this answer..i.ve wasted my money on buying dual band wifi router for them
@defalt Yes (technically no, but in practice, yes)
@defalt No (technically yes, but in practice, no)
The more capable router is still there for when they upgrade in the future.
@defalt 'n' does not mean dual-band. You have to look at the presence of a/g to determine band support
@defalt Costs them a tenner to get a dual-band wireless card upgrade, and will get far better performance
And what @Hennes said
.a is missing in their wifi adapter..it is only b/g/n supported
can only 802.11 n see 5GHz band?
Only if it is a/b/g/n
We've already told you that three times :-|
18:46
@noitsbecky i get it
since ac is compatible to all a/b/g/n that's the reason only i can see 5GHz interface
i'll let my people know that that's the fault with their b/g/n adapters
No, AC is only A band.\
That's why it's called AC.
(I like to tell people that but actually that's just a coincidence)
hehehe
@defalt Not every 802.11n device uses the 5 GHz band. There are lots of cheaper Wi-Fi devices out there that only support 802.11b/g/n on 2.4 GHz. 802.11ac, on the other hand, only uses the 5 GHz band.
@noitsbecky so ac is a superset of a only
@defalt Not really. 802.11ac uses a very different air interface.
It's more an extension of 5 GHz 802.11n.
18:52
nods.
We have a, b, g, n and ac on the market
And a few exotics in the 7GHz band, but not on consumer stuff.
ac is compatible with all of them..i used to connect it with 2.4GHz band
@Hennes ad is consumer-y (WiGig) but on 60Ghz
No, AC is impossible on the 2.4Ghz band.
That's what B/G/N is for.
I found an affordable .ad card, but no affordabel access points.
There's 60 GHz mmWave tech capable of achieving gigabit speeds, but it has extremely short range (line of sight, signals blocked by a single sheet of drywall).
Heh. The only ones I know of are in things like the HP WiGig dock
18:55
oh i forgot..mine is not ac only..mine is dual
Look at the NETGEAR Nighthawk X10.
does the operator have to pay for using 60GHz band as it doesn't belong to ISM
I only recently upgraded to a tplink archer ac2600
Nope, because 60Ghz is ISM
@Hennes i upgraded to archer c20
19:01
Is C20 lower or higher than C7
@noitsbecky i don't know..when i searched for tp link dual band..archer c20 was on the latest model list
thanks guys for the information..today i faced lot of confusion with a/b/g/n/ac standards
Archer C20 is an entry-level single-stream 802.11ac router. (802.11ac allows up to four streams; the more, the faster.)
That's N's fault, probably why they went 5Ghz only on AC
@bwDraco does each stream have diffrent channel?
I've rapidly been phasing out 2.4 GHz only devices from my life
Kindle Paperwhite: now obsolete / replaced by a newer Kindle Oasis with Whispersync 3G, so no longer have to run my hotspot in 2.4 GHz mode for book downloads
Nexus 7: replaced by iPad Pro 9.7"
19:13
@noitsbecky look at this site trustedreviews.com/opinions/… they say ac adapter is compatible with b/g/n..aren't they wrong?
well, took a closer look. It's actually multiple streams of data encoded in different ways in the same spectrum to increase spectral efficiency. Each stream needs its own antenna.
Spatial multiplexing (often abbreviated SM or SMX) is a transmission technique in MIMO wireless communication to transmit independent and separately encoded data signals, so-called streams, from each of the multiple transmit antennas. Therefore, the space dimension is reused, or multiplexed, more than one time. If the transmitter is equipped with N t {\displaystyle N_{t}} antennas and the receiver has N r ...
Most 802.11ac client devices from the midrange up support two spatial streams
i think you are all wrong and that it uses magic invisible pixies
3
c2600
@defalt Most AC cards are AC/a/b/g/n
@noitsbecky which is what dual band adapter is
19:23
@defalt No shit sherlock
those sites should actually mention this..they write half information and let users to learn the other half from somewhere else
@defalt all part of the fun
i just learn that 802.11 n was independently made and work for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz
good, there will be a test later
hehehe
19:31
sorry i'm a bit grumpy, i can't get rid of this darn cold
