The Aurora R5 uses a very clever design where the PSU sits in front of the motherboard, over the CPU, and swings out for access to the motherboard. To save space, the CPU is liquid-cooled with a low-profile waterblock. That does mean a proprietary form factor, but it allows a surprisingly high level of upgradeability in a very compact chassis.

Well, the idea of phase-change PC cooling with inverter compressor technology is not new but I'm sure there are enthusiasts who are interested in this technology...

The idea just makes sense to me because it would deliver the extreme cooling capacity of vapor-compression refrigeration when it's needed while not overcooling the CPU and causing condensation problems and whatnot when the machine is idle or lightly loaded.

An inverter changes DC to AC and for some reason motors that use that are efficient.

inverter was a really bad name for them. basically they use DC motors. Dc motors tend to be more efficient. Many units have used DC motors before, yet "inverter" is being applied to PWM adjustable speed ones?? the DC usually more efficient because there is a permenent magnet. more AC motors use double coils, so they expend the energy to make magnitism twice.

The inverter is capable of generating output with variable voltage and frequency, so it is able to drive the motor at different speeds.

This is more efficient than just switching a single-speed compressor on and off to maintain a set temperature. An inverter compressor runs pretty much continuously, adjusting its speed as needed to maintain the required temperature.

DC motors can be easier to control with adjustablle pulses of power. the big "change" that is occuring , instead of stopping the compresser when you have ice dripping off your nose, they slow down and keep running.
so they can be running more continuous, at slightly less noise and much less power consumption

It is still a bad idea, because water will condence on a barely cold glass even, leaving your computer a dew point. What will you gain? only overclockers points, as the diff between Overclocked on good air & Overclocked on a freezer, usually isnt worth the trouble money or power . now if you dont overclock at ALL, and it causes you to, then you will see a increase. but you wont see much of crud from easy normal OC to the extremist , needing phase change.

@Psycogeek The whole point of using an inverter compressor in a phase-change computer cooling system is so that it can be cranked down when the machine isn't under load.

Inverter compressors are also becoming increasingly common in central HVAC systems.

where are you going to put the heat still? and you realise you now have more general heat, because you have the waste heat from the compressor electrical, the friction.

Totally something cool to do for the weekend, I wont do it though for the ~5% possible gain difference from a good air. along with 50% more problematic although fascinating idea.

I am not about to pour $100 worth of Liquid nitrogen (gold) into my computer for a 5 minute thrill ride either. Cept on X-mas everyone should get a 5 minute thrill on x-mas before they realise it doesnt change anything for real that much to the user.

now if you got Sub-Zero plan where semi-conductors become superconductors :-) it might be interesting to freeze that up
