Hi, I need a few options for getting professional looking email address like [email protected] ?
What is the easiest way to get that kind of email ?
Bob
Bob
> This domain is for sale!
:P
@user3448600 Register the domain with any registrar, find a hosted email service (Microsoft Office 365, Google Apps for Work, etc.) and follow their instructions for pointing the domain at their service.
thanks, will research that.
Bob
Bob
@user3448600 My personal preference is Namecheap for the registrar. Hosted email... I'm currently using O365, but Google might be better. You should compare their features, plans and pricing.
There's other hosted email services, of course.
They all do basic email but will differ in management features, integration with other services, webmail client (with MS you get Outlook Online, with Google you get something like Gmail), stuff like plus-addressing, catch-all addresses, aliases, etc..
@Bob blah, coverity
not coverty
also Hearts of Iron IV is awesome... currently the entire south of England is owned by the Third Reich; the Wehrmacht's front line is roughly half-way between Liverpool and Glasgow
00:20
Ok, I use Namecheap for domains also. Thanks for quick help. This chat is awesome thing :)
00:34
@user3448600 namecheap's hosted email is decent for small numbers of accounts
er
I use it for my dad's one account, and IIRC its pretty reasonably priced

2 days ago, by That Brazilian Guy
@allquixotic IIRC you own a U2F key, right?
^--- hey @allquixotic
@ThatBrazilianGuy I have one
its pretty useless so far ;p
Oh? How? Why?
@ThatBrazilianGuy google won't support it on anything but chrome
there's also a thing that lets you unlock a pc with a ubikey, but not the u2f version
So I literally have not found any uses for it
@ThatBrazilianGuy yup
but the only website(s) that use U2F is google and...
01:05
...and github IIRC.
I don't use github much
@JourneymanGeek Those extensions don't work? :(
google blocks anything but chrome
=/
Damn
I'm not going to buy a really expensive piece of hardware that only works with chrome
I use Firefox and veeeery occasionally Chromium
"really expensive" whaaat?
its about 20 dollars
01:07
Some Yubico devices are 40 or 50 dollars
Unless you have the "brazillian wax"
OH
THOSE are fun
this is the u2f key
you can unlock a PC with the 40-50 dollar ones
I want to protect my email account which is THE weak point in my (and everyone's) online presence.
what provider?
OTPs can be MITM'd
gmail... =/
IF you use chrome, the basic u2f ubikey is good enough
01:10
3 mins ago, by That Brazilian Guy
I use Firefox and veeeery occasionally Chromium
Yeah, that's a problem
Like, 99% firefox on linux
the plugin works everywhere else
I already use the phone OTP system, but if you lose your phone....
especially where my phone/sms is the second factor in a ton of places
Yeah, I don't like that as well.
Some security researcher demoed (IIRC, recently) how a locked phone with those notifications on the locked screen can be exploited after acquired by a 3rd party
01:48
could a mod refund my bounty here superuser.com/questions/1133476/…
02:08
bounties can't be refunded
@allquixotic there where is it going to go?
I have had them refunded before so it is possible
@William Why?
Keep in mind that bounties buy attention, not necessarily an answer
@BenN because I can't award the bounty to myself
i found an answer
if that is not acceptable that is okaay
Sorry, but not getting an answer doesn't justify refunding a bounty :/
@BenN I did get an answer just from myself
you used to be award the bounty to yourself
i remember those days
02:17
Heh, I think they changed that to stop people from buying attention then keeping the rep :)
The big FAQ on bounties, for your reading pleasure
okay well I guess I will be a 34 pointer. :(
No shame in that :) I spent half of my association bonus in a bounty on Server Fault
Eventually I worked my way back up
could you spare an upvote if you think the question is acceptable?
I believe you're getting all those downvotes because the question appears to be a software recommendation. I will edit your question to correct that
I just wanted a solution but yes I could see that
02:22
And done. Best wishes :)
Bye thank you
02:34
@William only time you get a bounty refunded is if it's there to keep an explicitly off topic question closed.
And that's super rare
I have never done that XD maybe I have
so can I edit it to make it off topic?
Heh, that would be rolled back
Then we will roll it back and be quite cross :p
hahha
Bob
Bob
@user3448600 Basically, you can either point the NS records at the email service (where they manage the domain entirely) or you point just the MX records at them (for email reception) and then add SPF and DKIM records (as TXT) so you don't get blocked by spam filters. NS records are easier, but that means if you want to host other stuff (like a website) at the same domain then you'd need to go through the email service's control panels.
02:41
@William could award it to a good alternative answer.
I can probably see an answer with xmodmap
i might so it doesn't go to waste but i could not get the other answer to work
xmodmap would be great although I couldn't get that to work either for some reason
I think the keys are hard wired at boot or something because I had to reboot to get these to take effect
Lol. I will totally be happy to post a tested answer and take your rep if I have enough time. :P

Hello!
Damnit, why are adults so complicated?
05:06
lol
When you're old enough, you'll realise...

That's a question you'll never know the answer to.

Yawwwwwwwwwwwwn, another day at work
Another Day , Another Doller

7th day on the trot tho
getting tired now
it's not 16 hours a day is it?

or... anyone else with any idea what the difference between USB 3.1 Gen2 ports provided by Intel or ASMedia controllers might be?
the former is identified as a Thunderbolt 3 controller and the latter ... has a chinese datasheet -_-
and of course all Asus boards, even the $700 one, use the ASMedia controller
@Bob in theory, there's intwl non tbolt usb 3.1 ports I think
@Bob I though you could read chinese?
Bob
Bob
> Chipset+Intel® Thunderbolt™ 3 Controller:

1 x USB Type-C™ port on the back panel, with USB 3.1 Gen 2 support
1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A port (red) on the back panel
@DavidPostill Nup. Speaking only. And even then not all that much.
@Bob the tbolt controller is different
Bob
Bob
so basically I have all of one hour to pick a mobo to buy :D
@JourneymanGeek Different how?
11:47
as in, I think its literally a seperate chip
Bob
Bob
bleh.
that doesn't help my decision at all!
You'd jhave a seperate controller ( ark.intel.com/products/codename/56890/Alpine-Ridge ) for that
Bob
Bob
> 1 x Thunderbolt™3 port (USB Type-C™ port, with USB 3.1 Gen 2 support)
1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A port (red)
5 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports
@JourneymanGeek Well. I'm talking a motherboard that probably has said controller...
ah, that actually does thunderbolt
lol
Bob
Bob
don't care overly much about how it's implemented tbh
11:50
Maaaaybe you should do something crazy...
like link the boards ;p
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe :P
could've sworn I did, but apparently I forgot a paste... whoops
basically, trying to pick one from this list
which was too long to paste, that explains a lot :P
"0 listings "
Bob
Bob
lol.
"Power Supplies"
THERE'S YOUR PROBLEM
Bob
Bob
bleh. the Gigabyte and Asus z270 boards, basically
> 0 results found in the Power Supplies category, so we searched in all categories
:P
11:52
I've had better luck with my asus gear than my gigabyte gear
Bob
Bob
(it was a search from a PSU search)
@JourneymanGeek issues with gigabyte?
@Bob most recent gigabyte purchase was the brix
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek maybe a better search:
http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/Computer-Components-Parts/175673/i.html?_fsradio=%26LH_SpecificSeller%3D1&_saslop=1&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_sasl=bit_deals%2Ccatchofthedayau%2Ccellarmaster-wines%2Ccrackawines%2Cctd_au%2Cdell_australia%2Cfutu_online%2Cgooddrop_au%2Cgraysonline-australia%2Chardtofind_australia%2Charveynormanonline%2Chouseonline%2Cjag_online%2Ckitchen_warehouse%2Cluvyourphone%2Cmastore_sales%2Cmybigbrandsstore%2Cmytopiastore%2Cnofrillssydney%2Coutbaxcamping%2Cpc.byte%2Cpetstock_online%2Cprincesspollyau%2Cryda-online%2Csaba_online%2Cshoppingsquare%2Csho
@JourneymanGeek oh. that thing -_-
I gave up after 3 RMAs
Bob
Bob
anyway, the two boards I'm currently comparing head-to-head: ebay.com.au/itm/… and ebay.com.au/itm/…
(there's also a dozen other ones from that search, which would be a pain to link... bleh.)
the gigabyte one seems to have better connectivity...
11:55
lol
I kinda like the asus better
mainly looks tho XD
Creative® Sound Core3D™ with SBX Pro Studio Audio Suite
Wait, what?
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek hm?
Creative does onboard sound now? geeze, if they had only done that 15 years ago
Bob
Bob
why's there a million motherboards for the same bloody chipset
and there's basically no difference between them
Bob
Bob
I'm serious
11:57
I kinda know exactly what you mean
Bob
Bob
I honestly can't tell if there's any difference between these three Asus boards
...dammit
the Asus ones don't have SATA Express connectors at all o.O
and the Gigabyte ones are lacking in rear USB ports
whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Bob
Bob
and I also have no idea what the difference is between their "Maximus", "Strix", "TUF" and "Prime" series
wtf
there's like 5 boards under each series
???
lol
I have never heard of TUF
Strix is kinda 'quieter' iirc
Prime looks like their basic line
Maximus is their premium line, but fills almost the same niche as ROG
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek It's a motherboard.
12:02
> And with TUF Z270 Mark 2, we've taken our digital-camouflage concept even further — by stenciling the military-inspired digital pattern directly onto the board!
WHAAAAT?
Bob
Bob
How the fluff is a motherboard quieter.
@JourneymanGeek WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
lol
also the maximus seems to be designed so you can 3d print parts. Like everyone has a 3d printer in their living room
sometimes the diff in the named stuff for the same socket is specifc features, like say one of them may have w-fi . might have an added marvell controller . Is designed for extreeme overclock , is armoured for who knows what reason. the choise is make sure it has all the features you need. then all the power if its for overclocking.
asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-Z270-P seems to be the base model
tho DVI? ewww
then find a very large user base with them. the more people finding bugs the more likely asus fixes them
12:09
@Bob erf. And they don't have z270 in their model filters
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek one "review" listed the lack of onboard DVI as a con for Gigabyte
come on...
also to make sure if your going to be using it past 5 years running, that the power stuff onboard uses good caps, and better coils could can help . always the higher priced boards have more durable compoents but only up to a point, then it is more added features or OC needs
Ok, their website totally blows
Bob
Bob
ok. the Formula is identical to the Code except for watercooling
> Behind that armor, it is essentially a Maximus Formula, sans the full backplate, integrated IO shield, and VRM waterblock.
Bob
Bob
12:11
sigh.
> In-house, we’ve already achieved perfectly stable speeds of DDR4-4415 with select memory modules.
uh. "4415" sounds like "4416 causes bit errors, let's take it down a notch"
... actually
Bob
Bob
> It’s time to discuss the purpose of that third “memory slot”.
> The third slot (DDR4) is wired directly to the PCH and is partnered by a riser card named DIMM.2
formulas tend to be extreeme for extreeme overclocking , maximus tend to be verysimilar and way lower priced.
Bob
Bob
> As the name cheekily implies, DIMM.2 is used for mounting M.2 drives.
wat.
that's just standards abuse
looking at what puget builds..
Bob
Bob
12:14
hm
I'm thinking I probably won't actually need Thunderbolt
Yeah, the primes definately are the 'vanilla' boards
Bob
Bob
so maybe Asus
@Bob or you can add it on with the rediculous addon card!
Bob
Bob
but the lack of SATA Express is annoying
eh. M.2 >_>
I've also probably missed SATA Express in the wild
Bob
Bob
12:16
@JourneymanGeek SATA Express gives me another two SATAIII ports each
that's what I want :P
@bwDraco just got done researching asuses naming conventions
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek he had a message about the relative rankings
I care more about the practical differences between them
dunno if I missed other stuff he posted
sigh
I just posted an answer that's essentially "Have you tried turning it off and on again"
12:25
Woke up with Nexus 4 being very hot.
@JourneymanGeek Easy rep! :)
@DavidPostill Sadly, not in those exact... oh wait...
I am using Sleep Cycle Alarm clock app that requires power supply to measure sleep.
All this battery meter screen tells me is that True Caller uses 18% of power... but total power use was about 80%
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek yea... I think I'll go with Gigabyte :\
The Asus boards are all rather lacking in connectivity
@Bob less confusing? ;p
Bob
Bob
12:29
I wonder what they did with the extra HSIO lanes
@JourneymanGeek no SATAe :(
Bob
Bob
hm. I should check the Gigabyte board
and make sure the 3 SATAe connectors don't just share with the SATAIII ones
Bob
Bob
well
that's awkward
@JourneymanGeek sooooo. yea. gigabyte specs lie :(
that just makes my decision harder!
no SATAe?
Bob
Bob
12:35
@JourneymanGeek shared
Either/Or or?
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek yea. each SATAe port takes two SATA ports
God; I really wish it was easier to find a case with a removable motherboard tray
Bob
Bob
so... that makes the differences... more rear USB ports on the Asus boards, more internal USB headers on the Gigabyte boards...
Thunderbolt port on the Gigabyte board
annnnnnnd that's all?
12:37
@Ramhound the HAF XB evo?
Bob
Bob
Gigabyte ahs a PS/2 port lol
kinda small tho
@Bob gotta have the NKRO
for those of us who have more than 10 usable fingers
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek I think USB does that now :P
my USB keyboard does NKRO
After my experience with my current case, which resulted in magic smoke due to horrible cable identification, I can't trust Cooler Master to make a good product
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek we used to play SSB on a laptop keyboard... the ghosting, ow
12:39
lol
Although I have found that one. The one I did find which I liked doesn't come with any fans, only reason I want a removable tray, is to install the (memory,GPU) (the most troubled parts in my last build)
Yeah, I THINK WE HAD THIS CONVERSATION BEFORE.
@Boris_yo usually the aplication data for the battery is what percentage of the whole usage (not the whole battery) that applicaiton or screen or wifi or whatever used averaged out over long times. are youscrolling the list there and seeing the largest and smallest usages?
@Ramhound or just a big case?
Cosair's cases are very nice
12:40
I am not sure I want a huge case height wise. My current case is way overkill for what I eventually didn't do with it :$
lol
I got a large case precisely for room to work with it
I have too many drive bays ;p
indeed my problem is that my GPU blocks most of the SATA ports
and my huge hands make it (hard) to access them due to the weird angle)
:34785759 No winning her around then :/
This looks interesting: lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-v33
It seems to be easy to work with
12:45
@DavidPostill Yes, apparently not :(
@Ramhound seems nice
Bob
Bob
screw it. Asus Maximus Code it is
If your willing to wait, and your into overclocking, Maximus Extreme IX will be released soon enough
@Psycogeek Not much to scroll there. There are no applications like Facebook, YouTube etc.
@Boris_yo ok so how much was "screen" using in that pic?
Bob
Bob
12:58
@Ramhound nah, would probably cost far too much :P
13:15
grrr
how am i meant to get files out of this stupid network D:
@djsmiley2k there is always a crowbar at the front entrance , you dont get the c4 till later
yeah it feels like that
it's log files from a chip and pin machine
someone answered 'use dropbox!'
they can go run away...
(*that was me being polite)
@djsmiley2k it would probably be handy to start with "what you can't do"
I mean, you could email it to yourself...
could you?
you could print out the files in hex and within an hex editor recreate the file by hand :-)
Bob
Bob
ok, got my PSU and mobo
and I'm out $800
ow
13:25
800 what YEN ? why it costs so much
Bob
Bob
hm. could just buy a i7-7700k now, it's actually cheaper than an i7-6700k -_-
A good modular PSU is a couple hundred dollars, the Maximus Code is a good 2 hundred
Bob
Bob
completely out of order from my original plan (cc @JourneymanGeek) :P
@Ramhound try $300 (AX860i) and $500
AUD though
I figured
( well not the AUD ) but my estimate was on the low end anyways
Looks like 2020 is my date for a new F-150 (Hyrbid)
Although I will have to get a house in order for that to make sense.
LOL
Working in the middle of the woods, with no chance of being able to charge my Truck, sucks
you could always start with a long extention cord :-)
13:33
Its a 60 year old complex
Its not going to get electric car charging stations
anyways I realize that I propyl won't have to "charge" the hybrid anyways. 2020 is awhile off, eough time, for the gas engine to charge the battery.
@Bob 3 month rule? ;p
13:49
rev 1.2
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek yea I broke it :P
PSU + mobo, now need case + CPU + fan
I'm kinda looking at drones now ;p
@JourneymanGeek nope
no email setup on those systems
I suppose USB is disabled?
no 'unauthorized webaccess' allowed.
yup
I turned on the options for the locally accessing folders, but it seems that's disabled at admin level
the documentation says you can copy the files over - you can't
and they wonder why I rage at the documentation xD
13:59
"Documentation"
14:24
oh there's a wiki
cept instead of actually using different pages and stuff, someone litterally took everything and dumped it into a single page for this customer
making finding anything almost impossible
Bob
Bob
14:53
well
that's awkward
@JourneymanGeek let's see, I've ordered case, PSU, mobo, CPU, cooler... but no one has 32 GB of RAM in stock o.O
Looks like I'll be just a hair under my budget, phew
!!s/hair/hare/
Who broke the bot?
15:19
all of the SE Sites use https but chat doesn't..why?
hmmm it's likely answered on the meta somewhere @AlanWatch
I guess it's so we can spy on you
15:59
@AlanWatch It can, just add https://
evening
@Rahul2001 like you i have been busy with a girl this weekend
i'll take a look in a short while
16:15
@Burgi LOL, no problem, enjoy :)
I fixed most of the problems...
@AlanWatch It does by default for me
16:27
Everyone has a friend like this: questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1856
Nevermind me, I'm not thinking straight
i don't :(
on mobile chat there is no https.
@AlanWatch There is, I use it all the time...
it works after adding https
Then what's the problem?
16:50
MY SPOON IS TOO BIG!
!!orly
:/
nm
17:06
@Burgi mount -o remount,rw /dev/girl0 /mnt/lucky --> /dev/girl0: No such file or directory
mount -o loop,rw /home/allquixotic/hand.img /mnt/blah --> exit code of 0, no error

Is there a way to keep a row in Excel highlighted once the window loses focus? As in, I select a row, then click into another window to enter data there and the selection in Excel is promptly hidden. I would like for the selection to still be visible
27
Q: How to keep selected text highlighted when focus changes in Microsoft Word/Excel

glennerooRelated to this question: Show cell selection in Excel when not in focus except that my case concerns Microsoft Word. When I select text or a column/row in Microsoft Word or Excel (2003, 2007, 2010 or 2013) it shows up highlighted like this in Word: and Excel: However, when I change focus ...

I am not alone!
@OliverSalzburg it remains the ActiveCell in VBA and .Focus remains True, so it's just a UI trick that makes it appear non-focused
@Psycogeek 13%
@allquixotic Well, the UI and its appearance are what is important to the task at hand ;D
Didn't buy Samsung EVO 850 256GB for $69 on holidays. Keep thinking about that...
