I beleive it works with AC to cool your car too
yea, being in california , that isnt deemed as important to us :-)
ahh , see there you go, million doller idea, have it be like a propane refrigeration system. get refrigerant movement with the heat of the engine.
energy losses are everywhere, and the costs of making things way more efficient , or dual purpose , or utalising the waste energy , all costs more than just buying up more energy and wasting it.

@Psycogeek Seeing it's something like a 200Khz CPU and the spacecraft's got a gigantic radiator for the RTG anyway, it's pretty much negligible
the sattalites dont have people in them, so do they use air ?
they musta worked out a cooling method for those also.
hmmmmmm
why do they get hot?
sattalites are loaded with ineffcient electronics gear, and computers.
the real question is, given that i can keep buying and wasting energy, what if the inefficency itself is the clue to finnaly getting intel processors to 2X speed ? , before the century is over.
we could say that efficency is what got us many other 2x speeds. like when they doubled data transmission speeds by "triggering" on the high and the low.

@allquixotic lol. think I was already doing that
add to (concurrent) dict on the ts3 thread, use threadpool thread to convert/transcribe
so I've not noticed any responsiveness issues :P
@allquixotic ooh, github can do boards? nice :P
@Dog those folding screens sound fragile o.O

"Quantum communications use subatomic particles to securely communicate between two points. A hacker trying to crack the message changes its form in a way that would alert the sender and cause the message to be altered or deleted."
Oh look, somebody moved an electron, I think they are spying on us :-)
or could be mom was re-heating her coffee in the microwave ,
like there would be no such thing as a Quantum duplicator/repeater , when there is a quantum communications?

Some people have too much time on their hands.
21:43
@bwDraco We don't have that problem here. Do you really need to bring this up?
It was just something funny.
yea my hands are all wrinkley from time :-)
Hi guys! Could you help me repairing an Android Smartphone?
@QuicoLlinaresLlorens sell it on ebay, then 2 weeks later , it will be sold there as "like new", buy it back again.
21:51
@Psycogeek hahahaha, good strategy!
so what is wrong with it?
The owner is a friend
And he told me that he was trying to root it
and finally the mobile (Moto G 2nd generation XT1072) is stucked on the motorola logo and doesn't boot
yes hahaha
I have looked for some guides
But doesn't work
well most scares about bricking a phone permenent are just that scares.
21:53
I can send mfastboot commands
The problem I think it is that all guides I found are very old or simply are not for the XT1072
I have tried asking on some forums, but no answer
did you ask a good clean proper question on AndroidSE? there are people there who know that for sure. but they are very pickey and will ignore your question the moment it looks help vampirey
So I am going to try
thanks!
@QuicoLlinaresLlorens if you use the words "but didnt work" and you dont tell them exactally how it didnt work, then your question would be wasted,
no, I try to explain
@dog , is a cat who might know how to break and then fix the firmware on a phone
Bob

22:05
@QuicoLlinaresLlorens search for a softbrick fix for that model
Bob
Bob
general gist of fixing a soft brick is you should still have a working bootloader (and maybe recovery), so if you can just throw it into download mode then you can flash working stock firmware.
if you broke the bootloader too... that's a hard brick and not much you can do about it (short of hooking up JTAG if available, etc.)

Loop quantum cosmology (LQC) is a finite, symmetry-reduced model of loop quantum gravity (LQG) that predicts a "quantum bridge" between contracting and expanding cosmological branches. The distinguishing feature of LQC is the prominent role played by the quantum geometry effects of loop quantum gravity (LQG). In particular, quantum geometry creates a brand new repulsive force which is totally negligible at low space-time curvature but rises very rapidly in the Planck regime, overwhelming the classical gravitational attraction and thereby resolving singularities of general relativity. Once s...
You know you're a science nerd when your bedtime reading looks like this ^^
@Bob doesn't seem too bad. Can't imagine it being much worse than these flimsy 0.5mm cases they use nowadays in the name of "moar thinness"
The clip on one's I'd probably store like a tablet, i.e. in the tablet compartment of my bags
Now that you mention it, yeah, clip on aftermarket ones would be a lot safer in the long run in terms of repairability

So, I've decided to cut a few parts out of the planned PC build, with a view to upgrade in the future:
PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CK2rwV
Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CK2rwV/by_merchant/

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($349.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($97.88 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS IX FORMULA ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($393.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($189.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 960 PRO 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($358.21 @ B&H)
I'm going to use the existing monitor and peripherals and stick with the GTX 1060 until more money is available.
Of course, precisely how the system will be built comes down to how much money is available...
...and what AMD has in store in the coming months.
Bob
Bob
@bwDraco what's your current video card?
On a laptop, with GTX 780M.
Just barely okay for some of the games I'm playing, and inadequate for the more demanding titles out there.
The laptop's three years old and is due for a replacement.
Bob
Bob
@bwDraco Then if you're pretty sure you want to upgrade to the 1080 (or other) later, maybe go with the 1050 for now.
@Bob Hmm...
Existing monitor's a cheapie 1080p60 IPS display. (It's an Acer H226HQL, which is actually pretty good for the money, but mine suffers from rather bad IPS glow.)
I was wondering if I should drop to a 1050 Ti...
Bob
Bob
@bwDraco 1060 doesn't cost that much more than the 1050 and is significantly faster. But 1050 is still a decent step up from the 780m (~25%, not accounting for overclocking potential in a full desktop card).
Definitely 1060 if you want to use it long-term, but if the ~$50-$100 difference is significant to you, and you're going 1080 soon-ish, then 1050 could be a decent choice.
22:51
@Bob I'm able to get a ~15% boost from overclocking my 780M.
Bob
Bob
But in a $2k build a $50 doesn't matter that much either :P
Then again, desktop Pascal cards have loads of overclocking potential, definitely more than 15%, so probably a good idea to save some cash and pick a 1050 Ti if replacing the card is planned within a few months.
Bob
Bob
@bwDraco Personally, I'd say if 1080 is planned within 6-12 months.
But then I came from a GTX 760, which is similar to the 1050.
@Bob ...or its successor (more likely by then)
Bob
Bob
It does depend on what you play, but I found the 760 adequate for 60fps+ on med-high on all but the latest games.
It mostly choked on AotS and a bit on Battleborn :P
But then AotS had a lot going on at once on the screen.
The only reason I went 1080 instead of 1060 or maybe 1070 (or even staying with the 760 for a while longer) was the new 4k screen.
@bwDraco 12 months for a successor? maaaaybe.

...cutting about $100 from the build.
...or maybe even drop the graphics card altogether and run the machine on integrated graphics until I'm ready to get a dGPU.
@Bob: You'll like this one its funny (if you like this kind of humor)
Bob
Bob
@WHATEVERDave think I've seen those before. but at work right now so can't watch
Bob
Bob
@bwDraco ok, that I would not recommend :P
going 1050 instead of Ti? could work
going iGPU? nope.
not if you intend for better desktop perf than your current laptop...
@bwDraco ahh i am about to dissasemble a haswell computer that would give you a real desktop overclock and great memory and sell off the parts for 1/4 what i paid for them. last chance to buy it whole
23:10
Sorry, I want the latest platform.
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek ouch.
where are you selling them that you only get 1/4?
yea , such is why it will go for 1/4 what i paid. everyone wants the 6% faster :-)
@Psycogeek What parts do you have in the system?
@Bob i pretty much had just built it, with older haswell parts , then the dude died
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek :(
23:12
Ouch.
that was months ago, now i am about to part it out to ebay
Bob
Bob
dunno if you'll get more (...or get scammed more) on other places
I think overclockers also has a similar forum
gigabyte UD3 board, haswell i5 4 core that other than HT it overclocks just like my i7. 16gig 2400-2800 ddr3 .
@Bob Beat me to it.
it is a cheaper clone of my own computer, which has the i7 the UD5 and 32gig memory
Bob
Bob
23:16
@Psycogeek hardwareswap also takes full machines if you want to try posting there
benches very similar to mine, overclocked at the same rate using the same numbers in everything. the missing hyperthreading wasnt not worth the extra $100 , for a notepad user :-)
Bob
Bob
@bwDraco heh, I got my 760 off the AU version of it
@Bob interesting, i dont have any heatware, but i do have huge e-bay feedback/presence/happy customers. so people wouldnt be guessing (as much) if they will get what they paid for. feedback.ebay.com/ws/…
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek ah, the reddit one is probably more appropriate if you have an existing old-ish reddit account (w/ decent activity/score)
never posted on reddit myself, isnt it more like an uncontrolled idiot land like youtube comments?
23:25
Depends on the subreddit
i mean 80% of what i read on reddit would get you banned here :-)
Some are strongly moderated and pretty high-quality
but wrecks often get more attention, soo i wouldnt know if there was any safe driving there :-)
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek the whole voting/karma system means (a) there's a bit of a "hivemind" effect going on, (b) well-reasoned posts tend to do well, and (c) blatant idiot posts a la youtube tend to die messy deaths
Bob
Bob
23:28
ebay => more protections, less money (more fees)
oh, and the whole paypal favouring buyer thing
hardwareswap => less control (more trust required), probably get more
IMO hardwareswap works better if you can find someone local and use cash
520$ for a 1080 :-) but for all i know the dude is a prince in namibia
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek that's why you at least ask for photos with their (user)name on it as proof they have the thing they're selling :P
local Yea, i used to transfer some e-bay stuff local , works great COD (cash for stash), but this round , even local locked items got improper bids that required me to ship
I dont know why i dont know why i dont know roflmao
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek you could always chuck a post up on hardwareswap for local-only and see if that gets anywhere
23:32
@ the bot link
Bob
Bob
local obviously restricts your audience, but they're the easiest transactions
meet up (somewhere public/safe), hand over hardware, get cash, done
much easier than messing around with paypal and shipping fees and tracking and safe packaging...
@Bob local hightech is always harder here, close to the silicon valley, they got tech everywhere. heck they toss out (and i have given away) stuff that would be an upgrade for most peoples home computers.
while some people would leave a win95 computer on the sidewalk with a free sign, here it is a win10 computer with ivy bridge :-)
(still a POS , but just not an average dumpster dived one)
@Bob yea i have never observed that photo with handwritten messages on it as security :-) or local newspapers with the date for kidnappers. But yea that method is better than "stock picture" after all no scammer would ever use that . . .
method :-)
For those who dont know, there are many pics like this when people mess with a scammer, and get them to jump through hoops. I disclaim that anyone is indicating that this guy is one of them.
some of my e-bay problem is i am competiting in the pricing with people offering broken items. right now listing is totally free, and much of it looks like craigslist :-)
