sattalites are loaded with ineffcient electronics gear, and computers.

the real question is, given that i can keep buying and wasting energy, what if the inefficency itself is the clue to finnaly getting intel processors to 2X speed ? , before the century is over.

we could say that efficency is what got us many other 2x speeds. like when they doubled data transmission speeds by "triggering" on the high and the low.

general gist of fixing a soft brick is you should still have a working bootloader (and maybe recovery), so if you can just throw it into download mode then you can flash working stock firmware.

if you broke the bootloader too... that's a hard brick and not much you can do about it (short of hooking up JTAG if available, etc.)

Existing monitor's a cheapie 1080p60 IPS display. (It's an Acer H226HQL, which is actually pretty good for the money, but mine suffers from rather bad IPS glow.)

@bwDraco 1060 doesn't cost that much more than the 1050 and is significantly faster. But 1050 is still a decent step up from the 780m (~25%, not accounting for overclocking potential in a full desktop card).

Definitely 1060 if you want to use it long-term, but if the ~$50-$100 difference is significant to you, and you're going 1080 soon-ish, then 1050 could be a decent choice.

Then again, desktop Pascal cards have loads of overclocking potential, definitely more than 15%, so probably a good idea to save some cash and pick a 1050 Ti if replacing the card is planned within a few months.

It does depend on what you play, but I found the 760 adequate for 60fps+ on med-high on all but the latest games.

It mostly choked on AotS and a bit on Battleborn :P

But then AotS had a lot going on at once on the screen.

The only reason I went 1080 instead of 1060 or maybe 1070 (or even staying with the 760 for a while longer) was the new 4k screen.

@bwDraco 12 months for a successor? maaaaybe.

...or maybe even drop the graphics card altogether and run the machine on integrated graphics until I'm ready to get a dGPU.
