Yes, restore your last full backup.

world-class bags.

now shipping to Australia
huh.
except I don't really need a $850 luggage bag :P
@qasdfdsaq looks nice
@Bob They came highly recommended at one of our middle-class department stores
Yeah it's stupid expensive, but it's also a lifetime investment.
Bob
Bob
roomy
Never heard of them before as apparently they've been US-centric mostly but they're very well designed, practical, and high quality bags.
Also lifetime guarantee, free replacement parts, and guarantee covers airline damage too
Not that that's really that compelling for me, I've never had a lost or damaged bag in 12 years, and for that price I could buy a replacement four times.
Bob
Bob
@qasdfdsaq does lifetime guarantee include free shipping though?
@Bob No idea tbh - here I'd just take it to the department store down the street

Anyway just like I can never find the perfect laptop/phone/gadget, I seem to be unable to find the perfect luggage/bag either, but Briggs and Riley come damn close.

@qasdfdsaq department stores named after people. yay.

@Burgi @Bob I'm getting a physical, hardcover copy of the maxims ;p
@Bob good to go?
13:27
Meh. So yeah, unless you can take it to a shop you have to pay for shipping
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek yup
@qasdfdsaq ugh, that'd probably cost me at least half as much as a new bag
Odd, they ship to Yemen, Zimbabwe, and Timor but not the UK? :-/

@Bob Well they have repair centres in Perth and Melbourne

@qasdfdsaq O_O
And as I say, free replacement parts to do it yourself if it's doable yourself
Bob

@qasdfdsaq also shipping something that big to Melbourne would still cost me something like $50-$100 I'm pretty sure :P
but, yea, surprised they have that big an AU presence

NO UPDATES SINCE!!!!
@Bob TBH, they're mostly "Authorized partners" briggs-riley.com/contact/find-a-repair-center
Bob
Bob
oh. those are usually shit
I doubt a top-end company would partner with shit repair operators
But it's possible...
If I buy one, I'll probably have it delivered to collect at the local store anyway, since I have no home address to accept parcels at. I'm pretty sure I'll have no issues returning it to a store in person, and shouldn't be hard to find a John Lewis anywhere in the UK
(They actually allow you unlimited time to return any unwanted product, though that's not explicitly encouraged so I have no doubt they'll honour repairs under manufacturer's guarantee too)
Bought a digital camera from them once and returned it for a full refund five months later.
Felt a bit guilty, but then again, most of it was procrastination, I tried it for a few days then left it on a shelf for 5 months because I was too lazy to do it sooner, and there was no compelling need to
@Bob: Also if I get that bag I could probably make a bit of money importing heavy goods when I fly to Australia if I ever go over :-P
2x 32KG luggage allowance + 2 carry-ons FTW
In unrelated news, looks like a girl who was in my bio class at university now works at the Apple store and there's also a guy standing outside the apple store holding up a sign saying "Cheaper Apple repairs"

@Burgi Then my point stands, the card is dying
Don't you just love watching cute girls come out of the shower with nothing but a towel on?
And it didn't even involve a strategically timed fire drill.
@qasdfdsaq got a new place then?
@djsmiley2k agreed, the camera records the temp and the lowest it ever recorded in the last 4 years in -12C
so its probably just died
@djsmiley2k New hostel across the road, if you call that a "new place"
I've seen a lot of sd cards go read only just before they diecompletely.
@qasdfdsaq well enjoy.

@djsmiley2k Eh. Now there's girls taking pictures of plain tomato soup on their phones
Maybe she's so proud of the reheated supermarket plain tomato soup she has to show it off on Instagram...

@Rahul2001 you and your crazy databaseless blogs
@Burgi SQL is like taking the longer and more torturous road to hell. I'm using PHP, so I'm going to end up there anyway. Why suffer even more?
because you will learn SQL along the way
@Rahul2001 Here, I found some. Huh, that was easy!
@ThatBrazilianGuy lol. I assumed he already saw those :)
16:55
@ThatBrazilianGuy Except for those. Those are only three :/
@Burgi Weren't you the one complaining about SQL a while ago?
@Rahul2001 doesn't show anything here.
@djsmiley2k Exactly. Pulls up some weird wikipedia page.
nope
Your search did not match any documents.
@Rahul2001 Polyethylene terephthalate - Wikipedia
OMG @djsmiley2k's baby is made of Polyethylene terephthalate!!!
@Rahul2001 nope
17:03
@Rahul2001 If you mean today, that might have been me.
so anyway hte point of that image was to figure out why oneboxing isn't working :/
@djsmiley2k Well, because the image URL doesn't end in .jpg, of course.
but, that's dumb
detect the file type properly
you wouldn't trust a file.ico would you
/me makes a pre-dvd propaganda video
Complain to the SE chat dev, specifically to whoever wrote the oneboxing function
you wouldn't run a .hlp
And also I thought the ! would force the oneboxing even if it didn't end in .fileextensionthatsupposidlyensuresthisisanimageandnotsomekindofexecutablebadcod‌eystuff
17:11
You don't get it. Oneboxing uses regex (or whatever) to detect images in URLs.
hmmm
but you can ! a link to force oneboxing
yes
http://server.tld/image.jpg works, whereas http://server.tld/image.jpg?foo=bar doesn't
yes
should work
wtf
that didn't work last night :/
Ah well sigh.
@djsmiley2k Oh, didn't know it!
Haha
:D
17:15
@Rahul2001 I figured it out
> Best guess for this image: pet
> - Polyethylene terephthalate - Wikipedia
- Positron emission tomography (PET)
Google knows the photo contains a pet
@ThatBrazilianGuy But not a baby :)
It can extract meaning from a photo recongnition and search for context on a larger dataset
@ThatBrazilianGuy And it's a reasonable bet that hidden somewhere amongst that stuff is some polyethylene terephthalate and that it could all be scanned using positron emission tomography
@DavidPostill TODO: Detect all humans. Implement extermination procedures.

its a good question and i have seen the answer before somewhere
i think you want a sub query

I'd ask on Database Administrators but they'd wreck me to pieces....

@ThatBrazilianGuy i think the command is GROUP BY
@Burgi GROUP BY only works if I ignore Column4.
i'm going to risk the post parade traffic in a second
appently a car was upside down on the roundabout near here today
GROUP BY a AND b
try it with the first 3 colums?

Dammit Hetzner, I want my LARA
@Bob So if I open it first it's fine?
@Bob Eurgh. Hopefully it'll all blow over quickly now it's been totally withdrawn
@qasdfdsaq ???
wats lara?
New Internet service installed.
There you have it.
This is direct to the modem. Our current router (Linksys E2500) can't handle these speeds; I've got a Nighthawk X4S coming tomorrow.
As expected, TWC/Spectrum provisions up to 20% extra speed; these numbers reflect this overprovisioning.
Just gotta hook up the router...
There we go.
@allquicatic ^^^
19:44
@bwDraco I can't even open speedtest.net thanks to my amazing speeds
@bwDraco lucky :(
The router can't keep up. I can't hit even 50 on the Wi-Fi, hence the replacement.
5 GHz 802.11n.
20:08
Well I have my LARA and it's working
I remember LARA.
You might actually remember LARA
It's now a Lantronix Spyder duo or something
Seems to work about the same as every other non-iDRAC/non-iLO OOB remote management product out there
Incidentally, the i7-3930's Hetzner advertise are actually 3930K's = you can overclock the things to kingdom come with the LARA
20:26
wow
If the thrill of remotely overclocking servers thousands of miles away with nothing but a remote console is your kinda thing... >_>
@qasdfdsaq invalid TLS cert? <3
about 10 Java warnings?
@allquicatic Funny enough, no. No HTTPS at all -_-
Typical java web start applet though so the usual warnings there...
Eh, well, there's an invalid TLS cert if you manually connect on https:// but the link they give you in the email is plain http, no TLS to begin with -_-
Uhhhh
Looks like Xenserver installed itself in EFI mode but the server only supports MBR boot
No wait, it works, just me Xenserver/Hetzner/Intel being stupid
20:45
@qasdfdsaq I had to update the BIOS on the Supermicro C-something-something-something chipset in my Ivy-EP server (SP-64) a while back on OVH, to fix an EFI boot bug.
@allquicatic Arf
Upside of hetzner: Free LARA remote KVM
Downside of Hetzner: Free LARA only for 3 hours
why does this user have a donate link in their profile and does it go against the TOS? superuser.com/users/64178/lightness-races-in-orbit
Hmm, no SSL/TLS warnings on the new Xenserver 7...
also am i going to have to unblock qasdfdsaq to see if that was a reasonable reply?
That was not a reply
20:49
sigh
i know that now
@Burgi I don't think that it does, but modflag a post of them (and detail the situation) it if you want a mod to check it
Y'know that instead of unblocking someone you can just use the transcript right?
@qasdfdsaq that's what I do
Or I just don't block
i'm still new to blocking on SE seeing that only one person has pushed me to try it
20:53
God I'm sucj a wreck
o.O
4hs of sleep + forgetting lunch until 5pm + 45 celsius = zombie me.
2
ugh
unless your question is about minecraft or pokemon go it never gets answered on arqade
and as i say that i just noticed the huge QA in the logo....
My router is also giving me latency spikes under load :\
i feel like such an idiot for not seeing it earlier
21:00
These issues will go away tomorrow once that Nighthawk is installed.
mvbds,v çkcvd
Okay, folks, question: If a router is running at (presumably CPU capacity), should I expect latency spikes?
> Last failed login: Mon Oct 17 22:09:44 BST 2016 from 198.55.52.12 on ssh:notty
There were 30 failed login attempts since the last successful login.
Lol, in the 4 minutes it took to install a few Xenserver updates...
Hey its me ur owner
> Last failed login: Mon Oct 17 22:12:44 BST 2016 from 178.159.96.10 on ssh:notty
There were 8 failed login attempts since the last successful login.
And thats in the last two minutes. Geez.
Being a server on the internet these days is rough
21:20
Use public-key auth.
...and I'm getting packet loss and latency spikes on both 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz indicating likely router overload.
The problem seems to be worse on 5 GHz, in fact.
I can rule out interference, though. Pinging from my phone sitting on top of the router is giving me the same spikes and packet loss.
Likely bufferbloat.
300 MHz single-core MIPS processor. Yikes.
I guess this router needs to be replaced.
I'm seeing very small spikes when connected to the router's Ethernet switch. What's going on here?
What would explain the latency spikes on Wi-Fi even when right next to the router?
Well, Ethernet and 802.11 are controlled by their own chips in most routers so the problem might well lie in the 802.11 chipset.
Your thoughts on this issue?
Ethernet has very little issues; there are small spikes but not in excess of 30ms under load.
22:00
Would the new router help address the latency spikes?
The wired Ethernet connection is virtually problem-free, but the Wi-Fi suffers from latency spikes even when I'm right next to the router (ruling out interference).
Anyone?
sigh
The problem is independent of client. My laptop, phone, and tablet all suffer the same Wi-Fi issues.
Ping me with any thoughts. Got stuff to do.
(seems Ethernet and 2.4 GHz radio are on the same chip, so probably a shitty 802.11 implementation)
I guess I'll just have to wait for that Nighthawk.
This is on the router's Fast Ethernet switch.
A lot of speed variability was seen during the test.
Probably bufferbloat.
22:24
Anyone?
22:45
@ThatBrazilianGuy Just 45 celsius would mean zombie me (or 30+ C)
@bwDraco possible, but why is it hitting contention in the first place? ... most likely, due to poor throughput
bufferbloat never manifests unless you already have saturation
It's just my devices on the network, with only one device using the maximum bandwidth available, and I kinda think the router is hitting its limits. It can't reach the full speed of the underlying Internet connection.
Again, the router isn't even hitting 50 Mbps on Wi-Fi, whether on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.
I'm seeing latency spikes even with the connection mostly idle and the device right next to the router.
This is even affecting LAN (network internal) communication.
