o_O my ThinkPad T530 is having a battery firmware update -- wonder if that's out of paranoia about possible explosions
it popped up as a critical update from Lenovo's System Update (custom) software
must be an extremely slow protocol - and understandably so, considering how infrequently it's likely to happen - as writing the firmware took over 10 minutes
I went to the local dump today part of the monopoly waste management services here. I had one "yard" of trash, or about 1/3rd of a work van filled. they wanted $50 :-O
they have replaced the old geezer who used to stand around out there herassing and charging people, about 15$. replaced with 2 younger folks, one who looked more like he should be in an office, not at a dump, and the girl was back there counting WADs of cash.
For a Second i was expecting to find a pool of blood and a dead attendant , with 2 really stupid criminals robbing the place :-) but then i noticed the sign , showing the horrible prices
@ThatBrazilianGuy this is indeed scrap that nobody wants, it isnt recycled, and being in "green" california there is probably 2-3 "ECO" fees involved.
i always thought they were jerks, and cost to much at the $14or15 it was a few years ago.
plus the rules, no empty paint cans, no electronics, no liquids (like oil) , and other stipulations. At some point you wonder if it is a garbage dump, or they are running a cult up there and i have to leave all my worldly goods behind, give them all my money, and we will worship at the pile.

If someone edits/deletes a command the bot could edit/delete its response to that command instead of treating the edited message like a completely new command
Also wtf auto-incorrect, I type "completely" completely correctly four times and it doesn't recognise it and tries to correct it to something else. I mistype it as "competly" and it then recognises and corrects it to completely

Well on the plus side it doesn't just become completely blank, unreadable or undetected (good) unlike Kingston and Sandisk cards (bad) On the flip side, it doesn't stop you writing to it when it's failed either (bad) unlike Sony (good) so there's no obvious indication you should stop using it
Another plus is it doesn't hang, crash, or return errors when trying to read the rest of the drive (good) so you can recover most of your data easily,
But the biggest downside is it doesn't hang, crash, or return errors when reading corrupt sectors either! (very bad!). It's got a 7 second error recovery limit when reading any bad sector, and if it doesn't manage to recover the data in that time, instead of returning I/O error or CRC fail messages, it'll just pretend to have read the sector and return whatever semi-accurate garbled data it managed to partially recover in that time!

Interestingly they want to integrate the v-rack systems between Canada and EU so you can have a single virtual LAN across both regions and across cloud and dedicated services
Wonder how they're going to do that if you manage EU and CA servers on different websites :-o

hello wizards! can someone help me with some odd issues I'm having with Chromium on Gnome and a clean Arch install? basically, whenever I start a new GDM session I lose all my Chromium user data

@Bob this failing SD card is weird. When connected via its bundled reader to my USB 3 port it has lots of bad sectors. When connected to my USB 2 port it's fine. When in my S7 it has lots of bad sectors, when in my S4 it's fine.

After all having a facebook account is basically the biggest privacy leak anyone could make anyway, so if I'm there, there's no point hiding anything tbh
I've never really been much of a privacy conscious individual anyway
Now I tend to try keep my work and social presences completely separate, and not mention who I work for so people online can't link me to my employers, etc.
