Hi, is there anyone who could answer a few questions about port forwarding?
just ask the question and wait for the reply
14:18
> An AirAsia flight from Sydney to Malaysia ended up in Melbourne instead when the pilot entered the wrong coordinates into the internal navigation system, an air safety investigation has found.
Didn't know they had AirAsia in Australia... but remind me to be dubious about flying with them again -_-
@kerbalspacecat At least it didn't disappear completely ... or crash
survival safety tip: don't fly on any airline registered in malayasia
My god edge is buggy
Also like most clickbait articles on Edge's homepage, it isn't quite as bad as it sounds
It's not like they accidentally flew to the wrong airport, what happened was they took off, realised there was a problem with their navigation system, and decided to land at the nearest safe location.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!
our customer got a web management system built alongside the website
System? As in a bespoke CMS?
yeah
the website is umbraco (c#/MSSQL), the management system is totally custom PHP/MySQL
separate DBs
turns out that the DBs do not communicate with each other
the customer has been been filling out their custom web thing for YEARS and wondering why it never populated on to the live website
the company that built the custom thing (not us) never finished it
there is a class method called populateWebsite()

but in it the is a single line // TODO

Wow, the level of fail is astounding
I have a raspberry pi, with an apache server running - port forwarding working and it runs fine, I can access from my desktop on http://192.168.0.11/ and externally on external_ip:80

Now, the problem occurs here... I have USB sim dongle (huawei e303) I use to send SMS from, and this works. It even works when I fire up the ip internally on http://192.168.0.11/ from my deskptop. However, the portforwarding does not work as soon as the USB dongle is plugged in.

It isn't using mobile broadband, but the dongle does have it's own ip address of http://192.168.1.1.
anyone got any ideas to point me in right direction
15:18
@user1472266 What is the dongle plugged into?
raspi
soon as i take the dongle out, port forwarding works straight away - the dongle isnt connected to mobile broadband, but it has its own ip to connect to the dongle software... which i think is causing the conflict (but its needed for the sms gateway)
its making me crazy ha
15:38
hm
Looks like I got my 7th yearling badge
@JourneymanGeek :)
@user1472266 you might get a better response by posting your question on the main site

Q: 2 Connected Devices - Port Forwarding Issue

user1472266This is a bit confusing for me to explain but I shall try. I have a raspberry pi, with an apache server running - port forwarding working and it runs fine, I can access from my desktop on http://192.168.0.11/ and externally on external_ip:80 Now, the problem occurs here... I have USB sim dongle...

15:40
ah...
ehhh. I'm surprised its not closed
i was going to say
how come?
its pretty off-topic for SF
a lot of SF folk feel rpi type machines should not be in production
15:41
it would fit SU though
ahh its not for server fault
also, 5 hours is hardly enough time for an answer
its not a live server, but more of a project
dosen't really matter
you might want to add what your network topology is like
and where various things are
ah cheers
15:44
> consumer workstations or networking (which belong on our sister site, Super User)
I've VTCed.
which should count for a bit ;p
super user is us
thanks mate
give it time
will do
15:46
@user1472266 on your part, flag for migration, and said I suggested its a better fit here
will do now
now migrated
I ordered parts to fix my old headphones.
thanks
Not sure if the process is worth documenting or not ;p

@JourneymanGeek glue, test, more glue, more test?
@JourneymanGeek Why not? It will help you when you have to do it again :)
@Bob trip to hospital because you've glued the headphones to your ears....
@Bob no glue.
@DavidPostill Its a pretty simple process if your headphones arn't disintegrating...

Waterproofing and dual cameras. Nothing new for Android folks.
(though Apple putting both together in an iPhone is a big deal, as they've been playing catch-up for a while)
waterproofing to 50m, though?
(for the Apple Watch 2)
The Apple platforms still have a few very important advantages over Android (primarily in power and processor efficiency) due to vertical integration.
These advantages are not something Google or any of its partners can readily overcome.
Lol, Edge just crashed moving a blank tab -_-
Don't get me wrong. I'm not an Apple fan, but closed, fully-integrated platforms have certain advantages that cannot be reproduced in an open platform.
You know how horrifically inefficient Android's design is, even with the improvements in newer versions like ART replacing Dalvik.
the first hour of the Apple keynote was basically a sleeper
iPhone now!!!
17:56
@DavidPostill Everything but that? You must be hatin' me...
Android's ability to run on a wide range of hardware isn't free.

Apple has its own approach to CPU design, and their nearly complete vertical integration lets them design hardware and software to work together as one.

It's not like Samsung or other smartphone makers where the emphasis is on features, not performance. Relying on brute force (by using the fastest, hottest SoCs around) is not going to provide the best UX when your software is so non-optimal.
brb.
18:15
they decided to push the software zoom up to 10x
why not 11x? ;-)

Q: My Seagate 1TB External Hard Drive's micro USB port is broken

EarlI have a Seagate 1TB External Hard Drive, Model ST1000LM024. It's worked fine for the past couple of years, but recently the micro usb port has been unstable and I've had to hold it steady to even use it. As my terrible luck would have it, the day I got a new drive and intended to transfer all my...

wtf is this Sia thing
I think that would be OK for Super User
@NickAlexeev oh, broken USB port? Sounds like a great application for microsoldering >:)
might also be able to "rip" the drive out of its case and use regular SATA, depending on how it's engineered
Apple did big.LITTLE!
19:13
DOES MICROPROCESSOR LOOK... LIKE... A CPU?
@JasonC HOW IS MICROPROCESSOR FORMED? HOW CPU GET ELECTRAFIED?
19:37
!!/tell 32169637 wiki Photolithography
Photolithography, also termed optical lithography or UV lithography, is a process used in microfabrication to pattern parts of a thin film or the bulk of a substrate. It uses light to transfer a geometric pattern from a photomask to a light-sensitive chemical "photoresist", or simply "resist," on the substrate. A series of chemical treatments then either engraves the exposure pattern into, or enables deposition of a new material in the desired pattern upon, the material underneath the photo resist. For example, in complex integrated circuits, a modern CMOS wafer will go through the photolithographic...

Qualcomm needs to step up their game.
Trouble, QCOM doesn't have the same amount of money AAPL has...
AAPL may sell fewer units, but they have huge profit margins giving them more money to work with.
(they have 6x the market cap)
I fear nobody has as much money to spend on R&D as Apple...
Not even Alphabet (Google).
20:18
@allquicatic That's what I suggested.
While some have mentioned some external drives have "native" USB boards, that particular drive is listed as a SATA model so must be connected via a discrete SATA => USB bridge
@allquicatic I'd totally hit that ask that on SU

2 hours later…
Darn< i thought I saw that horror first.
@Hennes ^^^ :)
Ah well, time to shop online. I readdly need to learn anothe excel beast: pivot tables.
I've learned that knowing those (or mentioning "draaitabellen") marks you as an excel expert for HR people
I got open office, which seems not to have them.
And systemd does not seem to have a build-in office yet,
So buying a ms office version might be the thing
@Hennes LibreOffice does
22:09
Oh!. Cool!
Time to update my Open office install. Thanks. Eur 70 saved
Oh nice. proper 64 bit version. And normal english... downloading
@Hennes Oh pivot tables are awesome
I have used them. Click and drag things at random until you get what you want
I would not mind understanding them though
Probably the most useful feature of Excel outside of VBScript
I used to teach people pivot tables as part of an advanced excel course we did
We had internal lessons. Pivot tables 101. Assumption: you know how they worked and we jump right into the hard parts.
By the end of it I still never really understood them, just realised powerful and awesome they are.
But the premise is pretty simple once you get your head around it.
"Live histogramming" basically

It's by design, yes, but someone decided to abuse this feature to impersonate established users a few days ago.

pivot tables are great but they almost always take an entire day to get right
i'm my experience when i was in admin it was just easier and more successful to just make the figures up
nn
I do want to understand how I can use them.
And sadly much if my recent work has involved excel. Imput excep, (me doing something). Output excel
Not converting them unless needed was simply easier and bug free
Though anoyingly enough excel does not like 4 million rows of data
So we often had to split things into multiple smaller files.
I'm not interested in changing my nickname at this moment
Oh, and just in case someone is awake. I am aware of the proper solution. Just use a fricking database. :)
@Hennes 64-bit should work with that much data
Only two excel 2013 64 bit users in that office (I was one of them)
The ofice 64 bit install was well hidden on the corporate software shopping list
As in, you had to subscribe to beta products
And a day later it showed up in your optional items
23:14
@BenN @NickAlexeev eh. I think there's already a question.
@allquicatic we'll love you anyway even if you become an apple fanboy :p
23:32
It took them this long.
Where's Microsoft's response?
I don't really care, though. I'll continue to game on PC.
Consoles are all about convenience and integration, so there are still good reasons people play on them.
The Xbox One S is a rather small upgrade, the way I see it.
PentiumS 4 announced? :)
Ugh. $400. Which is probably Eur 400 or more (darn markup).
For that money I could buy a very nice graphics card and not need an extra device
(Project Scorpion is not yet there)
Yes! Finally got the fly.
Midair. *T W A P * Went like a bullet to the floor.
