@allquixotic At least you don't have to listen to homphobic people, or people arguing that 11 year olds deserve death penalty .____.
I don't have a response to that, but next time they play loud religious stuff I am so tempted to play brazilian vodoo music
yawn
Sun is out
feels goooooooood
weekend is here
@djsmiley2k.getUTC()
15:17
beer friday!!!!
FF crashed at my announcement of beer friday
Even FF is eager for the weekend
Aah, that's better :p

@DavidPostill Took you a while to install :P
@Bob Yeah. It wouldn't surprise me if my 3 year old laptop is not as fast as your gaming rig ;P
Bob
Bob
@DavidPostill My 'gaming rig', yea...
It's 5 years old by now
And was mostly mid-range when new :P
Most of the time was installing the updates.
Bob
Bob
Updates take a while on any machine :P
Try installing that big Win7 cumulative update. Might speed things up for next time.
5 minutes to load my programs how I like them ...
Bob
Bob
15:54
HDD?
Some laptop HDDs are especially bad.
@Bob I'm avoiding that like the plague. Don't want Windows 10
@Bob Yes.
Bob
Bob
@DavidPostill The cumulative update has nothing to do with 10. It's like a mini service pack.
Ah. OK. I only have 10 GB / month bandwidth so I'm very mean with downloads
@DavidPostill It would surprise me if your 3 year old laptop is as fast as my gaming rig
15:56
@DavidPostill i had that one as an audit too
i7-6700K, Schoedinger's Graphics Card (it's a GTX 1080 if I think it is, but if I open the box to look, it's really just a 980 for now), three SSDs, MaxCache, hardware RAID, 64 GB DDR4...
@Bob Do you know how big it is?
Bob
Bob
@DavidPostill ...that's rather ridiculously low
it constantly phases in and out from a 980 to a 1080
@DavidPostill you on limited LTE or something?
15:58
@Bob It's the biggest package from my mobile provider.
I'm stuck with mobile tethering for the moment.
Bob
Bob
Microsoft... wut?!
@allquixotic H+ whatever that is. I think it's between 3G and 4G
is Tor really anonymous ?
If I go over 10 GB it is 2 UKP per 100 MB.
Bob
Bob
@DavidPostill 476 MB for Win7 x64.
But it's not guaranteed to actually help, so it might not be worth doing for you.
@DavidPostill ...have you considered a different provider, or are they all that bad? o.O
And I thought the $10/GB here was bad.
@Developer No. Nothing is.
TOR is a tool.
16:02
@Bob Thanks. I'll leave that for now. I've used 3/4 of my bandwidth in 1/2 month :/
Bob
Bob
It's not a panacea.
@Bob how people get away with it then :)
@Bob I will look around when my contract expires.
They were all about the same when I bought it.
Bob
Bob
@Developer Because some people know how to use their tools effectively, and others simply aren't big enough targets, and (most) others simply aren't doing anything illegal in the first place.
@DavidPostill Ah. Ugh... contracts.
@DavidPostill It's technically just a collection of all updates you've probably installed already over time. I'm actually not 100% sure if it replaces them, though. If it does, that should speed up future update installs (smaller dependency graphs).
I'll try it in a VM if I remember tomorrow.
Ooh, actually... I could spin one up on azure?
...nah, they probably already have updates installed
@Developer There's "using Tor" (like downloading Tor Browser on Windows), then there's USING Tor (like running Tails, going to extra lengths to secure your connection, taking physical measures to prevent snooping on RF or physical signals, etc., and layering your connection even further inside Tor using stego, port knocking, and message-layer crypto).
simply connecting to the Tor network does not guarantee anything, and may even make it easier for APTs to spy on you if you're stupid.
16:07
APTs?
advanced persistant threats
@Bob Don't worry about it :P I'm more worried about size than install speed. I only install stuff if I really want it. I have the update service disabled.
in essense though, if someone knows you're using tor or encryption, and think you're up to no good, they'll be taknnga closer look ;p
Ohahaha
fucking hilarious
@Bob Oh, and thanks for the PowerShell hint. Last time I went looking for it (before Xmas, I think) MS had withdrawn it.
16:09
Star me for saying penis then ban me for saying penis but leave the star up JUST TO RUB IT IN EVEN HARDER
@qwertyuiop what is?
@qwertyuiop you were suspended?
she digging some history
Does it tell you when that happens
hold on. what
16:09
I thought you always watched for me getting suspended just to gloat
2 hours ago, by qwertyuiop
Instead they star stupid meaningless crap like "!!penis" or "hi"
Do I sense a little... (•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) penis envy?
@qwertyuiop You're making it worse by rubbing it ;)
@qwertyuiop wierdly
no idea when it happened.
they tell us when people get kicked
but not suspended
16:10
@ThatBrazilianGuy ...
@allquixotic I know someone who had been attacking adsense on my website
they live in same town as me, but google analytic point in different country
@jokerdino Somewhere between 0.5 and 3 hours ago
I think they are using TOR
@Developer how can you be sure it's them if it points to a different country?
@qwertyuiop the star probably triggered the flagger
16:11
and how do you know it's Tor? have you mapped the inbound IPs to known exit nodes?
@allquixotic: Can't remember if you answered or not - do you play Ark yourself or just experimenting with the server?
@allquixotic cuz there friend told me, he is jealous of my website
@qwertyuiop I play it. not much recently but might get a server started now that I have MWAHAHAHAHAHA number of CPU cores
It's about to fall off the wall anyway ...
Ah I saw your reply now
Being suspended refreshes your page and the alerts for pings go and disappear
How many cores is "MWAHAHAHAHAHA " exactly?
Didn't you say you wanted someone to test because you didn't have a powerful enough PC to run the cilent yourself? Or was that just cause you were at work at the time
16:13
It's Adventure Time | (• ◡•)| (❍ᴥ❍ʋ)
your standalone message was flagged.
I have no idea how the game works but I see lots of players joined for 8+ hours on the server lists so I assume it's a very long-winded game
!!tell 30100760 listen s/worse/harder/
oh ffs...
my boss has just restarted a server 5 mins before 5pm and it hasn't come back up....
16:17
You're like the best service I've discovered this year and yet the most basic functions are inconsistent as fuck
he just wants to ruin your weekend
Like, "Copy URL/share/link" doesn't exist on the desktop client
And the side bar functions don't exist on the mobile client.
@qwertyuiop echo (float)"MWAHAHAHAHAHA";
@Burgi That's why you run a cron job to disable the "sudo" "reboot" and "service" commands after 12pm each Friday
Urgh ffs. Where is my soldering iron, I need to fix a broken contact in my vibrator
@qwertyuiop The bandcamp web interface won't auto advance to the next song. Whereas the Bandcamp app only lets you play each album a handful times and then it demands money.
16:20
I've GIVEN THEM MONEY and they still show me ads saying GO PREMIUM TO REMOVE ADS!
And I get occasional popups sayings "You've discovered a premium feature, click here to unlock premium!"
Seriously though where is my soldering iron
Oh there it is, I've been uusing it as a back scratcher
Now I've lost my light switch. Urgh
Fucking IoT/connected technology/modern shit
When I was a kid, you couldn't lose soldering iron tips because you couldn't replace them with back scratcher tips
When I was a kid you couldn't lose light switches cause they were bolted to the wall. And you couldn't get loose contacts on vibrators because they didn't have USB ports.
Things were so much simpler back then
@qwertyuiop 16. plus HT
@qwertyuiop the latter
@allquixotic :-o
Xeon-WS?
Or dual-proc?
dual proc - on my OVH box
MG-128
16:28
Ah wait we're talking about your new server not a home PC
Haswell E5-somethingsomethingv3 x 2
<== derp me
home box is still a quad-core
boring old quad core... with high single-thread perf :)
Yeah same
I was glad to see pretty much everything I do on my PC is still faster on my quad-core Skylake than the new Broadwell-E's
Bob
Bob
@qwertyuiop pretty sure it does..?
@allquixotic oh, you upgraded?
16:37
@Bob ya... that's how I'm running my existing stuff and standing up SmartOS concurrently
@qwertyuiop did the launch of Broadwell-E this week only include Core i7 Extreme, or is it also Xeon E5-v4?
not that I'm very excited about the prospects of Xeon E5-v4, compared to v3. Probably pretty trivial
17:04
@qwertyuiop why did you get suspended?
@Developer take a look at deepweb.se while it is still available
@RahulBasu I believe he got a drive-by flag for a "rude" word. We can't say what it is in case it upsets your mum ;)
The star wall will give you a clue ...
@DavidPostill she doesn't check this chat room ever
@RahulBasu Was joking ...
that was sarcasm
@DavidPostill I'm trustable 😎
@allquixotic still good to be sure, isn't it?
17:13
no
@Developer your website?
Developer.com of course ;)
@allquixotic then you would be pleased to know that she is standing and looking over my shoulder right now
@qwertyuiop you were a kid? O_o
17:28
@RahulBasu deepweb.se is in closed beta now
@qwertyuiop its a windows box that i don't have access to yet
@Burgi so no users can't join anymore?
i think so
17:43
I want some chocolate
hot choc?
Should last you till Monday ;)
@DavidPostill 75 GBP? O.o
I want chocolate, not gold
4.5 kg and 80 cm long
17:53
that should be poison
18:07
I eat that much chocolate daily :/
no one eats 4kg chocolate every day
no one is that stupid
18:43
welp one of my best friend's wife has given birth...
which means one fewer drinking buddy :(
19:00
@allquixotic E5 V4's have been out for months
@RahulBasu I said !!penis
@RahulBasu Yes, it happens
@Burgi Lol in that case, not your problem in any way shape or form
he is a bit scatterbrain
he showed be one of the client websites last week for a few minutes then got called away
i got on with something else
in the meantime he has accidentally FTP'd the wrong files to the server and broken the website
he accused me of it
"you haven't given me access to that site yet"
honestly last week i was seriously considering resigning
nothing is in source control
lmao
\you knew this before accepting the job and you still did .... why>
because i had no better offers
only some of the servers are backed up (i have no idea what the schedule is)
oh and they haven't disabled or changed the passwords since the old developer left
and the hacked server, he wouldn't let me take it offline or ask the hosting company to spin up a new box

Question: Why don’t you work on systems with suspected pirated applications or Operating Systems? Answer: Because there are too many potential and actual issues that are not worth my time. I’ll list a few below. It is never fully trusted. If you pirate Windows or OS/X, you cannot guarantee that the data or programs on … Continue reading Question of the Week – Pirated Sof

@qwertyuiop good thing I didn't pay any setup fees to get an E5 v3, then! :P

you are a jerk @ChatBotJohnCavil
i'm going anyway and you can't stop me!
@Burgi OH GOD THE HORROR
19:36
...there's 39k+ tags on our CMS.
tags for what?
39k, unique?
Technically unique or semantically unique? ;p
surely you can only know the technically uniques without manually going through all the tags to count the semantic ones?
yum yum yum
and only a £1!!!!!
19:41
There's about 15k articles, so it's about 2.6 tags per article
@Burgi If I don't disable adblock, I can only see the header and the footer 0.o
how odd
its a legit site and no adverts on it
Yes, it's the public facing site of my employer
are you still in work?
Also, it's a complete mess of a nonsensic structure and layout
you work for a government agency right?
19:46
@Burgi "in work" as in, presently at the office, or currently employed?
in the office
@Burgi I work for a government entity, yes
@Burgi It's 16:46 here
TBH, most govenment buildings after 16hs on a friday are ghost towns
Specially, specially the congress ;p
well badly structured, impossible to navigate websites are normal for governments
@Burgi Correct, but I'm not part of the team of those
@qwertyuiop wow... That seems a bit harsh
20:02
@RahulBasu Being a kid once is a bit harsh?
Or being suspended for saying !!penis?
Either way, I've had worse. As in I've been worse than a kid once, and been suspended for less as well
I was talking about the suspension
But whatever...
@qwertyuiop Well, to be fair he's being a kid for at least 15 years, whereas you've only been one once...
Did you die afterwards? Or you became a cat back then?
20:24
@RahulBasu Ah
Your reply pointed at my reply to you asking if I was a kid
@ThatBrazilianGuy U;n stukk wirjdubg ib tge dyubg oart
I just realised that I don't know the professions of anyone here, and that is weird, considering the amount of time I spend here...
The only thing I know about @JourneymanGeek is that he makes backups
And @GuitarShoeDave does some kind of work in Canada remotely from the US
Dropbox makes my backups
;D
@ThatBrazilianGuy works in/for his government
@DavidPostill is a dance teacher
@qwertyuiop is a cat/noodle/becky
That's pretty much all I know
@allquixotic works for, but not in, his government (meaning, the Government is his customer)
Nice...
@allquixotic client?
20:37
@RahulBasu client is another word for customer
I was under the impression that they aren't synonymous, but whatever
they are in my business/country/industry
@RahulBasu Was, I've stopped for the moment. It was a part time activity when I lived in Holland.
Oh, and @Burgi does server side development
@RahulBasu And drinks beer.

EdityYou should watch your computer enviroment (eg, making sure the the cpu doesn't get too hot, don't run too much applications, so on.) You could use tlp. tlp is excellent on many Linux computers. sudo apt-get install tlp

21:20
And? You want some applause? <clapping/>
nope
You should edit your answer and add in the comment. It is part of the answer.
@Edity So why did you post a link to your answer?
i wanted to
You are starting your disruptive behaviour again. Please don't do that.
ok
21:28
teacher voice....
@Burgi Required when dealing with spoiled toddlers wanting attention ;)
exept that I am not a toddler. I am a pencil
my mother was a teacher, a lot of my friends are teachers and i've dated teachers. they all have a certain voice when they want your attention and respect
O_O
they are so used to using it on children and getting their way its sometimes a bit of a shock to them when they naturally slip into teacher mode in the pub and no-one pays any attention
21:42
Blog spammer if anyone cares to flag superuser.com/a/1084175/337631
@Burgi ha
I have a better way of getting peopls attention
Flagged
Once I was in a supermarket with my mum and needed her to look at something
this was a few years ago, not when i was like 6 :P
So after saying 'Mum!' etc
I just shouted 'Raddish!'

tada, she turns around
Now she's known as Nana Raddish ;)
21:46
is your mum's name "raddish"?
No
It was just a word that popped into my head at the time :D
lol
But hearing something that strange grabbed her attention.
@DavidPostill flagged
