Lol.

hmm I guess alias vgrep='less' works just as well

@oldmud0 what is your computer?

It is a 1996 Packard Bell running Windows 10, 4 GB DDR1 RAM, GTX 760, and 461 hp (2500cc, 7500 rpm) turbofan engine

You need a turbocharger.

Visual inspection is a common method of quality control, data acquisition, and data analysis. Visual Inspection, used in maintenance of facilities, mean inspection of equipment and structures using either or all of raw human senses such as vision, hearing, touch and smell and/or any non-specialized inspection equipment. Inspections requiring Ultrasonic, X-Ray equipment, Infra-red, etc. are not typically regarded as Visual Inspection as these Inspection methodologies require specialized equipment, training and certification. == Quality control == A study of the visual inspection of small integrated...

ughh
anyone know where I can get a 12 V 1.5 A adapter with a barrel connector?

Ebay?

Bob
modem died this morning. it's been revived with one of my Seagate external HDD power supplies

Amazon?

Pretty much 'The Internet'

Bob
1:53 AM
-_-

Or "Any electronics store"

Bob
the goal is to get one that's not shit, but isn't crazy expensive either
they have 'universal adapters' but those are $40 at the local store
$30 at one far far away that I might be able to get to on monday
I was hoping for something under $20

I kinda hoard those ._.
'In case'
actually no

Yeah I've got drawyers full of them

Bob
I don't have any spare

1:54 AM
I have one 12V adaptor I don't actually know where its from

Bob
got a bunch connected to external HDDs

Most of my spares came from routers/switches

Bob
but the other networking devices all use different adapters, or are in use
some of the old TP-LINK stuff uses 9 V
Other Billion modem uses a smaller connector
I'll try ebay but that has a decent chance of blowing up on me :P
I mean, in theory this would work

lets MOST OEM adaptors are a bit of cheap wonky shit anyway ;p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek well, the goal is to have a stable modem
so a minimum requirement would be somewhat clean power

1:56 AM
I've never had any blow up :-/

Bob
from dodgy ebay suppliers?

From any supplies
Never noticed crappy power affecting my modem sync or stability eitehr, but I haven't really paid much attention

Look for one of these
Its the MOST reliable part of my brix ._.

Bob
@qasdfdsaq Guess it depends how crappy
I've certainly seen some USB chargers that could actually kill what you connect to them
The original Billion one was EGB
lasted just under two years

hizzah
@allquixotic: not sure if you got the memo: googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.ca/2016/02/… this is pretty big.

A: Why does my Canon PIXMA iX6520 use so much black ink?

bwDracoInitial cartridges generally have lower yields than normal, and ink is often wasted on maintaining the printed especially if you don't print often. As others have noted, if this is the first time you're using the printer, it likely came with initial or starter cartridges which have lower yields...

With the number of product recommendations in my answer, do I appear to be shilling or spamming?

Haven't posted a full-length answer in a while...

> very high print volume (200+ pages a month)
lol. 200 a month is very high now? :P
Good answer though

Edited to remove "very" from "very high print volume".
I do about 50-100 pages a month.
However, I try to conserve paper by using the duplexer with any document that is more than a few pages long, and my prints tend to have high ink coverage (25% or more coverage on color prints is not unusual).
But I still get solid yields out of each set of Epson 252XL (and before that, 127) cartridges.

The phone will be equipped with a Snapdragon 820 SoC.

LG G5 is shipping the 820? SHIT
man, if it had a stylus, I'd buy it immediately
as it stands, I have no motivation to replace my iphone with an Android device that's basically a really good iphone approximation
man. Being satisfied with your current smartphone sucks ass
Why can't you have more bugs, Apple? ffs
You gotta give me a motivation to upgrade to the next big thing
But this damn thing is just about 100% of what I need, and there are literally no defects to speak of

All this is official. Display on at all times, replaceable battery, Quick Cover accessory, Snapdragon 820, and a February 21 announcement.

I'm excited about the LG G5. I'm excited about the Note 6 and that's not due for months.
Apple... just... too... perfect...

I see no reason to trade in my Nexus 5X. I'm not chasing the very latest tech. All I've needed is a phone I can count on to do what I need it to do.

Not me. I'm not getting an SD820 phone. I'm very happy with my Nexus 5X and its SD808.
@allquixotic That's precisely what was Retweeted on the LG Twitter feed.

;p
I've got a first generation moto G ;p

I wanted a phone that has current tech but I don't need cutting-edge tech.
Flagship phones have all these bells and whistles that aren't exactly necessary for me.
The Nexus 5X delivers where it matters most. It may not have the fastest SoC or the sharpest display or the longest battery life, but it does what I need it to do. That's what counts.
Spending $600+ on a flagship phone is just not necessary.
I paid $350 for a phone I'm very happy with.

Bob
6:18 AM
@allquixotic There's a very very good chance I will get a G5, if I can get my hands on a bootloader-unlocked model.
I already decided that before seeing the announcement :P

Jan 31 at 1:53, by bwDraco
Directly heat-sinking the SoC to a metal case, however, could cause the surface of the phone to get dangerously hot (potentially hot enough to cause burns with just a few seconds of contact).
How do they keep these thermal issues under control?
I have root on my Nexus 5X and I usually have cores disabled to save power and limit heat, but what about the ordinary user running the stock ROM?

Bob
@bwDraco 5% is more typical.
@allquixotic We already knew that :P

@Bob I know. I'm quoting ink coverage on a color print (which is typically 15% combined).

Bob
@bwDraco Eh. I got the G4 for 500 AUD. A bit less than that actually.
@bwDraco Yea, but the question wasn't asking about colour prints.

@Bob Is the phone subsidized?
That's an awfully low price for a flagship phone...

Bob
6:23 AM
I don't print much anymore, but I could easily put out hundreds of pages in a day, let alone a month, while in uni.
Home offices, etc., could easily use more.
@bwDraco G4's just cheap. Was outright. Taiwanese variant though.

MSRP here is $580 $600 for 32 GB carrier-unlocked with US warranty.

Bob
o.O
@bwDraco They only have 32 GB.

May be used on a GSM network; will not work on CDMA networks except prepaid Verizon.

Bob
But that's alright, I just stick a Micro SD in.

erm
Does anyone use CDMA outside the US?

6:28 AM
Best Buy charges $580 unlocked.
@JourneymanGeek South Korea, but that's pretty much it.
CDMA2000 networks are virtually nonexistent elsewhere.

The US carrier-unlocked version of the LG G4 is very hard to find, in any case. Not many places sell it.
Besides, it does not work on CDMA networks (except again, prepaid Verizon).

Bob
@bwDraco Also hard to find here :\
Samsung phones are common. LG G3 is strangely broadly available.
!!no

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is rarely found unlocked in the US with warranty, and once again, it's only for users on GSM networks. Again, RRP is $600 for 32 GB (and this is what you'll pay if you buy from Samsung direct), but street prices are lower.

Bob
Piss off.

6:33 AM
o0

Bob
Oh, S6 not in stock? why not try the iPhone 6s, it's similar!
No. Just fucking no.

S6 6S. Small difference, Only I donno. Everything

Bob
@JourneymanGeek It also costs 30% more...

@Bob Was the sarcasm spread too thin? ;p
Oh oh
They BOTH HAVE ONE BUTTON

Aug 23 '15 at 19:03, by Bob
Yea, base model S6 goes for ~1000 AUD RRP.

Bob
6:38 AM
@JourneymanGeek Not even that :P
@bwDraco That was half a year ago. Also, RRP doesn't mean actual store prices.

> RRP is $600 for 32 GB (and this is what you'll pay if you buy from Samsung direct), but street prices are lower
US$480 is typical.

Bob
Sounds about right. Maybe a tad lower than here, for the typical price.

$500, on sale with bundle.
...but for one day only at this point. Again, RRP is $600.
Unlocked flagship phones with warranty are insanely expensive here and don't work on Verizon, which is the leading carrier here in the US.
That's why they are incredibly rare. Most people buy their device through their carrier and pay it off over an installment plan these days.
Sep 13 '15 at 4:00, by DragonLord
People simply can't pay $600+ for a smartphone these days.
It's getting way too late here in New York. Good night/morning/afternoon/evening to you.
If you don't mind a larger phone, the best flagship phone for the money is the Nexus 6P, at $500 for 32 GB unlocked (and it works on all major carriers, including Verizon and Sprint).
That's it for me. See you later.

Can't seem to fall asleep :\
Long story short, Verizon is picky about what devices you can bring onto their network, while AT&T and T-Mobile are not.
However, it seems things are starting to change.
Everything you need to know about unlocked phones and device compatibility with the Verizon network.

Actually kinda

8:42 AM
(also, a different part also broke today... except it's basically rusted away and I need to find something to bridge the gap)

Epoxy wire and cloth? ;p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Well, I just need to epoxy the other side of the paint :P
@JourneymanGeek Eh... I ended up with a pice of aluminium flashing.
It's a bit too flexible though.
@JourneymanGeek I need to get myself some wire mesh. And more epoxy.
Cloth... bleh.
It's a wheelbarrow with legs held together by rust, paint, epoxy and duct tape.

Meh
lol
meh
I open up slashdot...

So it seems Linode itself saw a partial breach that resulted in a compromise of the 2FA system, but it is unclear if user credentials were breached.
There was a concerted attempt to completely break through Linode's security measures. They got so far as to break through the TOTP 2FA system, but it doesn't appear that the attackers actually got to the password DB.
Password storage is being migrated from key-stretched SHA-256 (which is no longer considered secure for password storage) to bcrypt.
Several customer accounts were breached due to a password leak and weak passwords, but this was through the normal auth system.

Bob
2:14 PM
@bwDraco "key-stretched SHA-256", if HMAC, is PBKDF2 - which is considered secure.

Morning

Bob
bcrypt (or scrypt) are typically preferred outside pf requirements to use approved standards, but PBKDF2 is "fine".

A: Do I need RAID 1 if I have a backup?

bwDracoThe two serve different purposes. For mission-critical applications, you want to use both. RAID 1 is designed to protect against disk failures and can prevent service interruption. The point of RAID 1 is to keep the system up and running even while a disk has failed—this makes sense in mission...
