ok so this is now the third phone that breaks on me this year
Anonymous
FML
And that's why there's warranties
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq not when you void them/buy them second hand/are old enough handsets/live anywhere outside North America
Anonymous
FML
And that's why there's laws. And insurance.
Anonymous
23:24
Laws: they can't do shit sometimes
Anonymous
Insurance: not if you aren't paying for an expensive subscription plan
So what you're saying is you didn't bother learning from the first two phones you broke and continued buying phones with no warranty, insurance, or return policy.
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq my daily driver S4 had a shattered screen: I whipped out an old iPhone 4S I had which had one fifth of its screen unusable and after using it for two weeks it finally died completely
Anonymous
Since it was cheaper to buy a replacement screen for this iphone than for the S4, I got one but while installing it I was so dumb that I kind of broke the SMD coax connector AND cable while replacing it so all I had left was a glorified iPod Touch
So you went and bought another phone without insurance or warranty and broke it again?
Anonymous
23:30
let me finish my tragic story
Anonymous
I broke spare, old phones
Anonymous
So I whipped out another old phone I had: a crippled SIII with a faulty microUSB connector and microphone: I just soldered wires to the Qi charging ports and I charged it with a stripped USB cable, the microphone issue was quickly worked around by using the hands free headset mic
Anonymous
but its screen was also on the verge of dying: dunno why. And today it finally broke
Anonymous
Just as I was leaving the city for holidays
Whoopteedoo, you broke 3 old, spare phones, that were already broken...
Anonymous
23:31
Yep
Forgive me for not feeling sorry for you.
Anonymous
I didn't ask for your pity
That's no more upsetting than picking up a set of 4 year old batteries and finding out they don't work anymore.
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq not unless they do work, rather well, with a couple glitches everytime now and then
Anonymous
and it's three pairs of different batteries
Anonymous
23:33
what are the chances of them all dying in such a short timespan
Guess what, I did that last week.
I'm not yelling FML to strangers on the internet.
Anonymous
so I've been searching for people selling i9505 original LCDs (which are quite expensive, but now I've got the money) and everybody's out of stock until thursday. Yay.
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq we all grieve in different ways
Most people don't grieve over old spare phones that don't work
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq they did work, and they were my daily drivers for a week or so
Anonymous
23:35
I just get all the mileage I can from my phones
So do I
Anonymous
since I can't afford to just buy the last gen model, plus insurance
But you still don't see me grieving over my S4's cracked screen.
Ooh, S4 replcaement displays have gotten real cheap
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq not about the S4 cracked screen but rather about having three different phones breaking, and having no spare phone left, just as you were going to go on holidays
Oh no! #Firstworldproblems
Anonymous
23:40
@qasdfdsaq eh no because usually first world-ers wouldn't try to get the most mileage from their phone
Anonymous
and wouldn't bother going through spare phones
Eh yes.
Going on holiday and moaning you don't have enough spare phones.
Third wolders don't have spare phones. Or holidays.
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq I just forgot I am a person, and as such, I indeed am entitled to have my own problems, band-aid solutions, life and priorities.
3 mins ago, by qasdfdsaq
Oh no! #Firstworldproblems
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq ok so am I not allowed to go 100 kilometres by car to the nearest beach for a week unless world hunger is eradicated?
23:45
@PatoSáinz You're allowed to do whatever you want. I didn't say anything about what you're allowed to do.
Anonymous
*NB: and I've said nothing about not caring about the rest of the world, or my country, as a matter of fact
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq what about what I ought to do.
I don't care what you ought to do, go figure that out yourself.
I'm not your mother.
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq by saying "first world problems" you imply that there are other things I ought to be moaning, or not, instead.
Anonymous
Or at least that'd be a reasonable interpreatation of it.
23:47
@PatoSáinz By saying #Firstworldproblems I'm saying what you're talking about is a #Firstworldproblem
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq well you do know that words have connotations too
Oh no! Another #Firstworldproblem
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq I'm not talking about PC, but rather that expression can sometimes be tricky, and specially so if you ignore connotation
Anonymous
well whatever
I... still don't care.
Anonymous
23:50
@qasdfdsaq cool
I've got more serious problems to deal with. Like, my VPN buffers dropping too early in IKE mode.
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq you just want me to say first world problems to that
Anonymous
also: that seems like a hard problem to track down
@qasdfdsaq You would have saved a lot of electrons if you said "I don't care" some 1/2 hour ago ...
@DavidPostill I tried implying that, but evidently he didn't get the hint
Anonymous
23:52
@DavidPostill well the universe still has net +-0 electrons
Also, I have plenty of electrons to spare.
Anonymous
so everything is meaningless
I guess that makes your phone and your holiday meaningless too
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq heh
Except, you're wrong.
Electrons are created and destroyed in the trillions every planck time across the universe.
Anonymous
23:58
@qasdfdsaq but I think (don't quote me on it) that the net quantity of electrons is still zero
Anonymous
iirc
Nope
If the net quantity were zero, the sun wouldn't exist.
Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq then how come charge is conserved throughout all of the universe?
It isn't.
