I dont get the suggestions about cookies being the way to "secure" the (open) captive portal. doesnt that immediataly assume a browser? cookie-browser. since when is the only thing a person connects to in todays world a browser? As for how auth works after the login, I don't know.

If you do anything in an US airport other than sleep and wait for your flight , you should recognise that you could have rented a car, visited the city , gone shopping , and bought a hotel to sleep in for the same price :-) airport shops are for the busy executive flyer , who has more money than time.

it is typical for a compact model to not be as good as a SLR or DSLR , in many ways. I was figuring that the first thing you might have a fit about is when trying to capture a speedy thing, all the things that a compact can do to make that hard, like re-focusing before the shot lag between shots or even lag to take the shot.

some of that can be "fixed" with various settings, or use of the camera , like forcing manual focus, and useing multi-pic shots and all.

with such a large zoom range in the one you were discussing, the far ends of the total range of zoom may both be a little weak. like getting more bending at the wide due to quickly manufactured lenses, or loosing light capability at the far ends of the zoom, and it getting a bit soft at the super zoom also.

and cute names for lensing like Carl Zeuss (planet of the apes referance) , are just somone being paid for, or having designed the original idea, nobody is going to put $500 lensing in a $200 camera. just be happy that for the most poart the quaity and price is amasing. wouldnt want to have to make that at home :-)

This is a Nikon. From what I've read, the lens on this camera isn't the best, but decentering is more a defect than a design issue.

Zeiss isn't perfect, either.

Corner softness is one thing, but if it's very uneven or if one corner is way darker than the rest, then you likely have a decentering issue.

I get that compact camera lenses are more prone to decentering than DSLR lenses because of the small sensor, but there are certain tolerances that pretty much every lens is expected to meet.

The control layout is fantastic, but low-light performance is only average by today's standards.

Not exactly unexpected, but I expected more even performance with the lens.

I guess I'll accept it as a quirk of this particular camera for the time being.

30x zooms aren't exactly easy to get right.

that thing isnt exactally restrictive in the space alloted for lens, or cut off for lighting collection, just leaving the wide zoom range they use of it. What is the possibility for not using the far ends? like in wide is it going to a very super wide ?

The lens goes down to 24mm (equiv. 135). The issue seems to be most pronounced at the wide end at close focusing distances.

This is not unusual for a compact camera.

However, the decentering still seems to be a bit excessive.

Field curvature at the wide end of the zoom and close focusing distances is usually a serious issue on compacts of this sort.

I'm wondering if anyone else can pitch in at this point. Will be back.

if you concider sending it back for a refund for exchange, could be you would also want to concider sending it back and "Not giving them another chance, to send you a badly made product" ? a chance to try something else. argg that is what they make B&M camera stores for.

Even at walmart i can tell a few things about a model before buying, actually before ignoring about 10 of them, that just didnt suit me.

@allquixotic There isn't here either, but it's still supposed to be used in flight mode

AKA you can use it but with radios off during take off/landing

Wifi/bluetooth/etc. can be used once airborne but mobile (GSM/CDMA/LTE/etc) aren#t supposed to be used at all

you can use GSM/CDMA/LTE to your heart's content, even during the most stressful parts of takeoff and landing

the new policy doesn't require that passengers have the right to use their cellular baseband during all parts of the flight

Well I just did something absolutely absurd

I bought another smartwatch at the airport. It was £20 off. Plan on selling it on Ebay once I get back.

I'm pretty sure it'd have been cheaper to take a taxi home and back to the airport, but meh. Too late now.
