8:05 PM
reading recent post and pondering a "Fucking rou return the product to Provantage" comment.

8:26 PM
now I'm trying to figure out how to sign in on SE in Lynx. :)

@AaronHall no JS, so you don't
@CanadianLuke nice lol
until web proxies start blocking it

@Bob That's the one I got. Just a different sticker on it :P

"Because JavaScript is disabled, you can only log in by entering your OpenID URL manually"

I returned it btw. It's cheap crap. Probably only every third one works right :P
I went through 2, I'm assuming the third one could have worked :P

so I think I only created an account on SE, I didn't use an OpenID, do I now have an OpenID with SE?

8:42 PM
> Your Stack Exchange account, or StackID, is a reusable form of public identity that can be used to log in to any website that supports OpenID.

To log in to sites in the Stack Exchange network:

click the “Log In with Stack Exchange” button

To log in to websites that support OpenID:

enter the URL https://openid.stackexchange.com
googled "openid stackexchange"
(that's https://openid.stackexchange.com)

@allquixotic So I can just paste that URL into OpenID sites and it'll log me in?

I seem to be using SE, but I also keep seeing the log in part. I've done my username and password thing...
I'm on programmers.SE
hard to tell the questions from the comments from the answers in lynx...

8:59 PM
@AaronHall probably there's some JS (in addition to cookies) that runs on each page refresh to show you your logged-in data, like your rep, etc.

ok, so I'm logged in, it just doesn't look like I am

So we got some Dell 3340 notebooks in for some staff, and I didn't have time to create my own image, so I borrowed one from another tech. Random issues, especially with Office and our email program, as he set the Documents library to ONLY include the H:\, and to redirect the %USERPROFILE%\Documents folder to H:\ (network drive). It's not on an AD server, just a Samba 3 domain. Another new issue: he told Windows to favour the Wifi adapter over the Ethernet adapter!

@CanadianLuke Sounds painful.
Also, why favour WiFi over LAN? :/

I have no idea. He doesn't work for us anymore, he took a job a the college teaching

9:15 PM
Would it be very hard for SE to make a logged in session a bit less painful?
for lynx, that is?

@AaronHall yes - they use an enormous amount of JS and CSS for laying out elements that any modern web browser should be able to handle, whereas Lynx only does raw HTML

Yeah, but CSS shouldn't matter, and couldn't I bare minimum get a html: "Welcome Aaron Hall" with working voting and stuff?
are the visually impaired able to use the site?
I know, I'm bugging the wrong people.
:)

@AaronHall sure, using accessibility tools and a modern browser
Dragon, JAWS, etc

I wonder what a JS enabled lynx would look like

When you call my name it's like a little prayer
I'm down on my knees, I wanna take you there
In the midnight hour I can feel your power
Just like a prayer you know I'll take you there

10:10 PM
@Hennes Going on a Madonna binge?

10:42 PM
HELP

@snipe WHERE

somewhere here somewhere
I hope

No idea what you're talking about.

windows "7" "ultimate" is making my wallpaper blank

Is it set to solid colour?

10:52 PM
no its set to the windows flag logo
it keeps going black after a few minutes

You're not using it remotely are you?
Anyway, give this a go:
Control Panel --> Ease of access --> Ease of access center --> Make the computer easy to see --> at the end of the page "Make things on the screen easier to see" and unmark the "Remove background images (where available)".

nah locally

Where do people buy their RAM these days? Computer Memory Outlet has good prices but I'm not sure how trustworthy they are.

11:17 PM
@Seth Amazon

11:36 PM
@Seth I normally just download mine - downloadmoreram.com

@OliverSalzburg hmm, true, I guess Amazon has it, but they don't seem to have a mechanism for figuring out what's compatible, which makes buying the right kind tricky.
@MichaelFrank haha

@Seth Check the specs of your board, then buy the right RAM where it's cheap

11:52 PM
@OliverSalzburg Yea, like that guy that was here the other day... He had bought the exact right type of RAM he wanted... except in SODIMM.

Yeah I'm not really comfortable buying from Amazon. This isn't my computer and I really can't afford to get it wrong.

@Seth It's not so bad as long as you make damn sure you've put the right model numbers in.

@MichaelFrank Doesn't seem like Amazon has a compatibility checker.
