Hello

@HackToHell would that be the official iso?
There isn't one
Official eval versions are enterprise

@JourneymanGeek I've been gaming.
;p
Good reason
The only productive thing I've done this weekend is I took a Basotect sponge and cleaned a lot of the surfaces that I frequently touch on my walls and bed and stuff, to get a lot of the grime off.
I couldn't stand it anymore because it was so gross
14:54
ahh
has been doing a bit of research for the interview ;p

How you know your gamer dead meat:
1) Your players are getting themselves shot, because they realised there was morphine in the med kits, because you used them to much.
2) Your in a war , but your players act like they are in SIMS3 at the beach
3) you have the best armour , but the bad guys shoot right through it
4) You just paid $40,000 and it took 5 days to make that weapon, 5 minutes after disembarkation, the player drops it and runs away.
sigh my cup of coffee is bitter as heck today
Must be overextracted
I'm using Vietnamese-style coffee and preparation
(I usually just make myself a cup of instant coffee)

I'm looking to buy a quiet/silent PC for the living room to use for catch up TV (and other things). What would be a good price?
22:33
$500 ? is that a good price? you know they have media boxes, for the most part they suck, but they are for playing media, and they are less than $200 usually
Like WD makes one called WD live, and there is stuff like "popcorn hour" a friend of mine likes that, although i have never even seen one. They have android computer sticks that plug-in via HDMI, and even phones now will hook up a HDMI and play a media. Kill 2 birds with one Wallet, get primo phone and have media playback device too.
22:50
There are TVs that will play standard mpeg and divx/xvid easily via a USB flash stick , plus the "smart tv" which is more about connecting to the web. and DVD+7.1 sound systems (again what codec) that will take a stick, and play that the same way it plays the dvd.
(these two are not as likely to play the newer codecs, but really new stuff may start doing so)

@ChrisF Depends what capabilities you require.
On the basic end, a Raspberry Pi is about $35. Under $50 including all peripherals.
Then you have things like NUCs, which run $300 at the low end, $400 including all required components.
You could also find a very cheap desktop for $300-$400, though that might be a bit noiser and will use more power.
That's on the general computing side.
@Psycogeek has already suggested some dedicated media devices.
Personally, I'd stay far away from them.
No flexibility. Something went wrong? Too bad.
Want to play an obscure codec? Too bad.
@Bob and converting itself to be compatable sucks too.
23:07
@Bob Got a Pi - it doesn't seem to be powerful enough (or I'm doing something wrong)
I'm thinking of running Ubuntu on a silent PC. I can get one for £300.
But as I haven't done this before I didn't know whether that was a good price or not.
Seems like it's not a rip-off. So I may well order that.
23:20
That price includes a Blu-ray drive so I get two devices for the price of one!
The other thing it has is an Ethernet port which is a good thing because my Wi-Fi sucks in the part of the room where it'll live.
23:47
@ChrisF: I'd SERIOUSLY recommend a bay trail based nuc/brix
~300 sounds about right, but god, hardware in the UK is still overpriced.
superuser.com/questions/844093/… <--- see there are people out there with worse looking desktops/themes than mine :-)
