The problem of being unwelcoming through bad comments isn't fixed.
Erm...
I could say the same about you.
@random: Don't tell me that we don't leave a bad comment once in a thousand, that's fantasy...
@Sathya ah shucks... Thanks man!
Since that comment I've used Welcome to Super User! along helpful comments more than once.
I don't think I'm unwelcoming through bad comments at all...
@KronoS Oeh! It's your birthday! Gefeliciteerd!
And if I am, the community is free to clean them.
@random: I'm not objecting to those...
17:05
oy... feels the tension building and building in the room
@BloodPhilia thank you
@KronoS Have you seen my awesome HDD?
@BloodPhilia you mean this guy? ya! is that a super awesome, scrum dilliumptious looking external HDD that you so carefully placed a sticker on?
2
@random I think we should be rather working on the community instead of making problems when there are none; thank you for pointing me at an actual mistake, it would be helpful if you did that every time instead of leaving a comment that doesn't get to the point...
@KronoS "just"? :c
What do you mean "just"?!? How does that sticker NOT make it awesome :D
@KronoS That's better :D
@BloodPhilia ok good :P
17:09
@random: Remember, I'm trying to help the community. I'm not someone who has done so much effort just to be able to annoy users or make them go away...
@KronoS But on a side note, how is your birthday :D?
so far so good... I just have school all day, so no real fun planned for today... we'll see what labor day weekend brings though :)
And if multiple people try to do that exact same thing, you are always going to get some disagreement and that's where meta and discussion are for.
Or just doing the same thing over again in a way that would make sense, like posting a deleted answer again.
@random: If I've been doing something wrong for the past weeks, I would love to hear so...
15 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
You can point as much as me in that way as you want to, but all I'll do is ignore.
We do bring it up, you keep ignoring
@BloodPhilia I wish I had such an awesome sticker, they keep sending me everything except for those stickers.
@random Read the sentence above that, if you only base it on your personal opinion then it makes sense to ignore it.
@random If I wouldn't ignore, I would listen and edit all questions to just keywords, "Sudden hard drive crash problem, How do i recover/save the data?" to "hard drive crash recovery". But then I'm going to bump into other people. Just because I listened to your personal opinion on question titles?
I'd rather have "How to recover data from a hard drive crash?".
17:20
@TomWijsman Lol why would you edit that?
Or just "Recovering data from a hard drive crash" no need for extraneous words
@BloodPhilia For the same reason you did?
@random Let me stem that for you... "recover hard drive crash"
Yeah, a is an extraneous word, and even from is clear.
See, personal opinion all over again...
Why would anyone in their right mind edit like that?
@random What defines right? Your personal opinion?
17:42
@TomWijsman is being factious really necessary..? And recover what? You've removed reference to the data - the example title is now incomplete, not concise
@DMA57361 Well, that's what stemming is for. The question body is what makes a question complete, right?!
That's "basic computer tutorial", but I rather thing we should call that question "What is a way to smash my Mac using garden tools?"
@TomWijsman not always... some details needs to remain within the question title...
@TomWijsman sorry, but please don't point to youtube as a example of quality we should aspire to
2
@DMA57361 I didn't use the reply feature, that wasn't pointed at you.
And that last sentence still makes up for an example.
@KronoS I'm elaborating on an example that's not by point of view.
@TomWijsman the body is important, but there's a lot of difference between recovering data and recovering the drive for further use - the title should narrow things as much as possible
17:48
The title is supposed to be a concise question about the problem the user has.
@DMA57361 I know; tell Random, not me.
@TomWijsman you were the one posting "recover hard drive crash" as an example
@DMA57361 Yeah, because extraneous words are removed now?
@TomWijsman as said, the "data" part is not extraneous in this case, thus it becomes a much wider and more ambiguous title
On example is not necessary an opinion.
31 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
I'd rather have "How to recover data from a hard drive crash?".
@DMA57361 I didn't say it was so or should be so.
29 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
@random Let me stem that for you... "recover hard drive crash"
17:51
@DMA57361: I can read, thank you...
That does not say "data" is extraneous.
@TomWijsman the fact it has been removed does
It's rather an extra detail that makes recover data hard drive crash weird, hence recover hard drive crash.
@DMA57361 A word that doesn't fit doesn't make it extraneous.
If you want an example customized for your view for it, here is one: recover hard drive data.
These suggested title edits are getting worse
But, as said...
35 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
I'd rather have "How to recover data from a hard drive crash?".
@random What title edits are you referring to?
That's not a proper grammatically formed question
17:55
@random Not my problem. That's because you asked me not to use "How do I".
@TomWijsman you can't just remove "data" because it doesn't fit the sentence flow - that merely implies the from and/or a were in fact not extraneous
If you want a proper formed question: "Can I recover data from a hard drive crash?"
@DMA57361 I know, why are you telling me?
@DMA57361 See how extraneous words are all about personal opinion?
@TomWijsman I'm not sure I understand the point you are making
Which is what this thing is all about, you are just going around in a circle back to...
@TomWijsman because that's why you claimed to pull "data" from the example
17:58
41 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
@random If I wouldn't ignore, I would listen and edit all questions to just keywords, "Sudden hard drive crash problem, How do i recover/save the data?" to "hard drive crash recovery". But then I'm going to bump into other people. Just because I listened to your personal opinion on question titles?
How you choose to phrase is personal opinion. Leaving out keywords isn't and is just proving a bad example for the sake of argument
@DMA57361 I thought you did, why are you part of this discussion then?
@TomWijsman because this a public chat room, and everyone is part of the discussion?
@DMA57361 Yes, that's why I did it. But why are you telling me? It's not my opinion.
@TomWijsman I'm telling you because you're using an incorrect justification - you can't remove data because it doesn't fit (it makes the title incomplete) therefore the other words cannot be extraneous unless you accept incorrect grammer
18:00
@DMA57361 I don't think so, but what defines "Participation" is personal opinion again.
@DMA57361 Accepting incorrect grammar is personal opinion again.
@random How are from and a keywords?
9 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
If you want an example customized for your view for it, here is one: recover hard drive data.
@TomWijsman just saying "it's all personal opinion" feels like you're simply deflecting the issue
No keywords removed, no extraneous words, just like Random is telling me that I should have the titles like that.
But questions are about a problem and not about a topic, so we'd rather have:
7 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
If you want a proper formed question: "Can I recover data from a hard drive crash?"
@DMA57361 feels is a feeling, subjective; that is what makes it a personal opinion, yeah.

A: HOWTO: Writing Good Titles

Mark Harrison1. Make the problem stand out. The purpose of a title is to attract people interested in your problem or who can give you an answer. People scan web pages quickly. Make it easy for them to notice your question. Some people read via the RSS feed, so they don't see tags. 2. Keep it short. You...

You've entirely changed the post here. If you were doing so in your own voice, it would have been better to post a new answer altogether instead of hijacking an existing one
Yeah, start about something else...
We are still talking about taking other people's words and changing intent, meaning and phrasing here
18:06
@random There is no point in posting a new answer on a question that already is history?
@TomWijsman Ok then... I'll just leave it here if you're not willing to take the conversation seriously.
It's neither locked nor closed. Answer box is still open.
@DMA57361 Uhm, you started about feeling. I'm taking everything serious here, but I'm ignoring personal opinions that aren't backed up.
@random And why do you link to that post in this discussion?
@TomWijsman bad grammer is bad - that's why it's corrected so frequently on the site - and breaking a title to "fix" bad grammar that's a result of trimmings words is therefore bad - where's the opinion?
@random: You ain't going to tell me that a self-accepted self-answered question with barely up votes is not personal opinion?
@DMA57361 Where did you say what you just said?
@DMA57361 I hope you see that those trimming is an action based on a personal opinion?
18:10
@TomWijsman ... the entire conversation?
@DMA57361 So, you just said a summary, I don't think so...
@TomWijsman of course it is... the entire site is - you can't ignore opinion
@TomWijsman What you did was put your opinion on top of someone else's
@DMA57361 Uhm... There is a slight difference between personal opinion of a single moderator and the opinion of the community.
@TomWijsman indeed... but what's your point in the context of this conversation?
18:12
@random That's your opinion. I was helping the commenters on the question towards a community wiki which we can officially use.
> Here are some good titles, taken from existing posts. They succinctly summarize the question and will catch readers' eyes when scanning down the list.
What you did was make up titles out of whole cloth to fit your narrative
@random That's your opinion.
Are you saying the titles you edited in were existing titles?
@random out of whole cloth?
Did you even read the post before bulldozing through?
18:15
@DMA57361 That not a single user can tell me to learn doing something just based on their own personal opinion instead of the community?
@random Yes, I can read.
@TomWijsman OMFG!!!! +1!!!!
The example of that post were from existing titles. They were used as examples. They weren't created for the sake of creating examples.
@random And how is this relevant in edit wars.
You are just searching reasons to put me in a bad daylight, just like you did with other users.
@TomWijsman Right, but when the opinion of that user is fairly well aligned with that of the community then the two aren't distinct.
> Tom, thanks for the assist but since the edit materially changes the answer in part 4, I'm reverting that portion. I am taking the opportunity to add the heatmap screenshot, since it seems that's the part most people disagree with so far. Thanks! - Mark Harrison
18:19
@DMA57361 Give me an example where random his opinion was well aligned and he has told me so rather than from his own opinion?
@random So? I informed him that I changed his answer, he disagrees, is that a problem?
Why are you making a problem out of everything?
How to data everything a problem?
@TomWijsman As fas as I can see @random has tried to do that already, I see no need to duplicate his efforts
@random Is this really the behavior a moderator should put forth?
You are really unwelcoming that way...
@DMA57361 He didn't.
It was pointed out that you were materially changing posts against the OP's intent
10 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
@random That's your opinion. I was helping the commenters on the question towards a community wiki which we can officially use.
3 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
@random So? I informed him that I changed his answer, he disagrees, is that a problem?
How to data everything a problem?
18:23
Data is a keyword here
"A graphic representation of data abstracted from the banks of every computer in the human system. Unthinkable complexity. Lines of light ranged in the nonspace of the mind, clusters and constellations of data. Like city lights, receding." ~ William Gibson
Bump editing to push a post into community wiki is also frowned upon
@random Not if that's what the community wants; you can have a disagreeing opinion but that doesn't make it true.
So you're in favour of edit wars to push posts into CW?
@DMA57361 Actually, ask random. There is no point to this conversation as I do nothing but ignore personal opinion...
@random Since when is a single edit an edit war? You are deceived...
10 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
Why are you making a problem out of everything?
18:31
So clear up that bit about not making those titles out of whole cloth. Were they existing titles anywhere?
12 mins ago, by Tom Wijsman
Why are you making a problem out of everything?
Because putting your opinion in other people's posts and then saying you don't listen to other people's personal opinion is the crux of the matter here
And did that took you the whole conversation to say it that way?
2 hours ago, by Tom Wijsman
@random Ah, that one did favor to the question.
No, it was from the start, but a few examples were needed
2 hours ago, by Tom Wijsman
Short circuited, no leakage to others...

It really doesn't help if you are not concise and clear in an objective way, rather than based on your own personal opinions.

Why are you making a problem out of everything?
18:35
Guys; suggestion: you've been at this for nearly an hour. Take a break and read the transcript, then come back after you've cooled off.
@random As said in the start, it was to favor the question. Nothing wrong there...
@tombull89 We're learning to appreciate each other, I'm not hot or anything... :)
It's not that my actions are bringing the entire community to a screaming halt.
Yeah, that's from Stack Overflow Blog - A Theory of Moderation, points 2 and 3 are valuable there and would've prevented this useless discussion.
It however doesn't say to point out every mistake of an user in public on chat or on his meta questions...
My problem with Kev is long resolved, this discussion which I didn't start is more likely to cause more problems than to solve any.
Blame me for exercising my OCD on question titles, or trying to help...
I'm out for today, I knew I shouldn't have stayed!

@JourneymanGeek Gonna take a rest of Super User today; too much discussion in the morning...
Peace.

What the? Just seen on iPlayer that the latest Doctor Who is on series 6... there's been thousands of series of Doctor Who!
18:52
Hmm... To anyone else... when I starred... Tom Wijsman's video... I didn't read the context of why he posted it (Just reading now)... I make no reference to that argument and I am staying out... just saying it is a funny video!
If the tags are to be the source of information... Should we encourage links to Wikipedia (I am trying to get more in to editing/flagging!) ... superuser.com/suggested-edits/4913 Not pointing at Digitxp, he is improving what is there, just don't think it should be there in the first place.
@random ... Can you explain? :/ How can you push something in to wiki?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, DAMN YOU REP CAP!
Okay, keep calm, someone may actually accept an answer....
One. Smegging. Point. One single tiny smegging point. One single tiny insignificant little teensy point and I could have gotten "fanatic" on the same day as reaching 10k.
2
-.-
19:14
@Mokubai You could ask a question and accept an answer...
Weird thing is, I'm not that good at asking questions....
Answers I can do, questions, not so much...
@digitxp Do you even get reputation for that?
@Mokubai It's easy! Just pretend to be stupid, ask your question, and then be smart again and edit it!
@grawity 2 points
About as much as a tag wiki edit.
Hmmm, tag wiki...
...the thing is, pretending to be stupid is harder than you think :\
19:17
@grawity How long have you not been living with annoying siblings?
14-year-old /int/-addict sister surely counts as "annoying", but not necessarily "stupid".
Close enough.
(hm, still 5070 points to go and then I will stop checking SU at 4am.)
@grawity why 5070 points?
Aiming for 32768 :D
19:23
Ahhh :D
According to the iPod tag wiki, the FAQ has "Frequently Unread Questions" :S
Which should be abbreviated FUQ.
/me finds it amusing that 60 votes could be generated by what is basically an Alt+F4 suggestion, while actually useful answers range in 1-6.
...what kind of chat system does not support /me?
digitxp is outraged.
that felt reallly stupid
@grawity Yeah, you get that a lot, some of the answers I spent longest on get 1-2 votes, one where I tell them to press Ctrl-; to insert a date into excel gets nearly 20... go figure...
Maybe it makes you look old and grumpy, and therefore wise.
19:42
@Mokubai Not strictly cheating... but... if you (or anyone) has good answers, post the link here, I will always be happy to upvote good answers! (don't be offended if I don't upvote - I hardly ever do OSX/linux or similar when I have no idea if it is a good answer!)
Sadly it's the answer upvote cap that I've reached...
I need an accepted answer or, as digit says, a question or tag wiki edit.
@digitxp not sure if you are interested, but, after reading one of your tag edits, I wrote this - meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/104315/… ... I did accept as it was a good edit though. Don't you get tired of making edits!!!
@digitxp "Arch Linux, unlike a typical linux distribution, does not include any default software in its installation" -- don't coreutils and the like count as software?
@grawity Probably. Probably should have said applications. My bad.

Just posting it AGAIN
xD
19:49
@BloodPhilia Hehe, do we all get one of those?
@WilliamHilsum Thanks for the link, and nope. It's either that or Algorithms in C.
@Mokubai Unfortunately not! :P
@digitxp Terms don't matter much, but I thought that for example, Debian doesn't install much more than the base utils either?
@Mokubai It needs an upgrade though! It has a 320 GB WD scorpio inside! I want 1TB in it
@digitxp yeah... im here rather than programming!
19:51
How do you see what edits were rejected?
@BloodPhilia 1TB drives aren't that expensive these days....
@Mokubai Well, I don't have a spare 100 euros :P
Ah, well, that's be a problem then...
@Mokubai And it's 2,5"
;)
Ah, looks like a 3.5" drive from here
19:53
Need to buy books tomorrow... 640 euros
So I can't spare 100 atm
My local hardware store only sells 2.5" WD drives up to 500GB...
Any idea where I can get 1TB?
@BloodPhilia I take it stealing one from a random university is out of the question?
@digitxp From where exactly did you imagine I'd steal one? :P
20:00
@Mokubai I've had really bad experiences with Samsung drives
I've had no problem with their desktop drives...
My last drive is (apparently) still going strong and the current ones are doing well
How much is 100 EU in USD?
@digitxp 100 Euros = 145.09 U.S. dollars
Woah.
I got a 2TB WD for less than that.
@digitxp not 2.5" :P That be exactly the size I need
20:02
@BloodPhilia External :S
@digitxp What?
@BloodPhilia It's an external drive. Huge.
@digitxp Yes, but I need 2.5"!
@digitxp so it'd have to be a laptop drive @BloodPhilia needs....
Dagnabit, looks like tag wiki doesn't give me rep
@Mokubai so close!
20:07
Yeah, it's annoying
Hence my comment which got starred
Hm...
You still have like 3 hours left!
Going to play a game and see if it changes in the mean time...
:)
I wonder what's the current record for daily reputation...
Where's the data miner when you need it.
@Mokubai hehe... look at my questions... I have a low accept rate because I asked very specific questions that haven't been answered and I still need help... feel free to answer some! :) ... Also, sorry, can't remember/didn't read up, have you checked your /reputation to make sure it isn't higher!?
@digitxp What's wrong with it?
20:20
@Wil I don't know where it is!
That reminds me, why does /reputation often show less than the main site? Up to 30 less.
@grawity Because the main site is not always up-to-date...
If answers you got upvoted for get deleted, your rep for those answers will disappear
A recalc is done every so often, but the main site is never "real time"
@grawity I just triggered a manual recalc on my account, causing a drop of 64 rep
Is it too cheeky if we star "CONGRATULATIONS @Mokubai ON REACHING 9999 Reputation!" :)
7
20:44
Hi there @studiohack
20:55
@WilliamHilsum -.-
:D
@WilliamHilsum Yeah, checked the /reputation a couple of times to make sure my rep was "real" when I got there...
@WilliamHilsum Enough edit back and forths will automatically switch a post into community wiki
hey there my slave! @BloodPhilia
hey @KronoS, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D
21:45
@KronoS: Happy birthday!
@random ahh, Didn't know that - thanks!
22:00
@Mokubai 9999 then a rep cap - now that's just a bummer! Congrats on what is going to happen soon anyway!
Aye, bit of a pity, but hey, tomorrow is another day...
@WilliamHilsum @TomWijsman @studiohack Ah thanks guys!
@TomWijsman I think it might be in your best interest to just take the rest of the day off from SU... not saying your wrong, or right, I think you just need a rest good buddy.
@TomWijsman your four most recent meta questions, while useful, came right after a pretty heated discussion earlier. They may be viewed as trying to either validate your stances or trying to poke at the issue.
I understand what you're trying to do, but maybe letting it be for a day or two and then coming back to those issues, might be a good idea
@KronoS Why is the discussion heated?
@KronoS Taking a rest like KCotreau? Might be an idea worth considering...
22:09
whether intentional or not, the discussion was viewed by me and others as pretty heated...
@TomWijsman that is not at ALL what I'm suggesting
@KronoS Perhaps the discussion is based on heat...
I don't condone the actions that KCotreau made...
@TomWijsman perhaps, but I'm not going to get into a discussion on the finer details, plain and simple, there are oposing views on this topic at this time, and both sides are very firm in their stance
In situations like this, it is better to stop for a while (at max a day or two) and asses later
@KronoS What topic?
@KronoS Ignorance is better than walking away...
I'm not asking/suggesting for you to stop your participation on SU, but rather consider tabling the topics for another day, when things have settled
@TomWijsman Ignorance is great until it gets you dead :P
Ignorance is bliss :P
22:12
@studiohack lol
@TomWijsman I do not think you should do what KCroteau did. You do a lot of work here that helps out.
Time for dinner.
@SimonSheehan What action are you referring too, I'm reading sentences here with quite some ambiguity lately...
Thanks for your meta answer though. :)
If anyone has Virtual Box installed, can you tell me the default settings file it uses in the latest version (I want to tidy up this answer I just wrote - superuser.com/questions/329590/… )
@SimonSheehan But it doesn't help if some of that work is frowned upon and pointed that in public (chat resulting in a heated discussion, obsolete comments on meta questions, edit history, ...). Makes sense to just leave the community that way...
@TomWijsman do you have any specific questions or concerns of late?
22:29
@nhinkle No, just random haunting me around across the community.
@TomWijsman how so?
Today's discussion.
The earlier ones in Ask a Super User Moderator
Also did a comment on Meta.SO where he outlined my bold usage kind of like this.
@Tom with regard to the first two, I have observed what I interpret as a sentiment among some members of the community that there has been excessive editing lately. I think we can all agree that it would be nice if there were a more elegant way of handling edit floods. That being said, there's been a lot of heated discussion about edit flooding on meta, which I think has been even more annoying for certain people who wish we could just move on.
(hold on - I'm still writing, just ran out of space)
@nhinkle Lately... As in more than a week ago, something I'm not doing anymore after the multiple meta questions about them.
If you think of a specific way in which edit floods could be reduced without preventing people from making useful edits and without having to discuss at ridiculous length "what is a worthy edit", then a lot of people would be happy to hear it. But I think we need to take a break from arguing about what edits should and should not be made. It's getting silly, and I think people get annoyed by that.
@TomWijsman I'm just addressing the first two links you mentioned
now I haven't read all the transcript in ask a mod, so I'll have to look at that later
as for lots of bold usage, that's just a pet peeve of random's, I wouldn't take it personally
22:37
in Gaming Town Hall Chat, Aug 16 at 22:29, by Tom Wijsman
@RebeccaChernoff Edits should have a certain quality as to improve the question and answer so that other user benefit from it, trivial edits can be made but they should be made multiple times at the same time. In some specific case, it might be necessary to add a tag to multiple questions to benefit the people as they could search in the tag.
in Gaming Town Hall Chat, Aug 16 at 22:29, by Tom Wijsman
@RebeccaChernoff If necessary, they should be planned out well so that they do not interfere with the front page in such way that you can't see the recent non-editing activity anymore; there should always be a share of quality edits and recent new questions & answers.
in Gaming Town Hall Chat, Aug 16 at 22:30, by Tom Wijsman
@RebeccaChernoff Of course, in some extraordinary cases manual intervention is necessary to maintain quality of the community, but these should be planned out well on meta and chat: Get multiple editors together, prepare all edits in tabs and do some normal activity after the short flood to bump it halfway down the front page.
@nhinkle Uhm... I've not been doing that until after it has been made clear that my edits are not wanted.
The problem with all of those solutions is it involved excessive planning and intervention and other stuff. We need a solution that doesn't inconvenience so many people. For example, if a user makes more than, say, 5 edits in an hour, then they shouldn't all show up on the home page at once - perhaps they should randomly show a portion of those edits, so when you refresh the page, you only see 5 of the edits, but it's a different 5 edits by that user.
I'm towards the point that I'm just confused, it's like people pushing from two sides.
I'd rather have a meta post that gets to the point than differing personal opinions...
@nhinkle You could say "I wouldn't take it personally" for everything, but there is a point where it is enough.
@nhinkle You just said not to argue about it, I just referred to my Town Hall chat to point out that I changed by view on edit floods as so far, I'm not willing to discuss it here.
Look, I'm not trying to start a fight or anything. I just wanted to know if there was anything in particular bothering you. I hear you saying that you've had some confusion over what the community's expectations are with edits, and I understand that confusion. I suppose making some meta posts about it is reasonable. If you feel like there are personal tensions between you and a moderator, I'd suggest that you email them directly or ping them in chat. I'm sure Random would be willing to talk.
@nhinkle: Random surely knows, but hasn't changed his attitude.
If you want specific behavior addressed, you need to call it out. You can't just assume that somebody knows why you're frustrated or that they understand your viewpoint.

How to data everything a problem?
@nhinkle It has been addressed.
4 hours ago, by Tom Wijsman
Why are you making a problem out of everything?
And not only this time.
Yeah, that comment is pretty heated, kind of reflects my feeling at that point.
And I've also placed a comment back on the bold italic usage, which I've deleted because his comment was deleted.
@nhinkle I'm not assuming anything.
Have you and random actually sat down and discussed in private (via email or chat) your differences and misunderstandings, or have you just thrown passive aggressive comments at each other in various formats? It's disconcerting to see such a rift between a prolific and involved user and a moderator. I honestly think that if you both took a moment to reflect, and then had a respectful conversation in private, it could be productive.

@random Is this really the behavior a moderator should put forth?
@nhinkle Uhm... It would be even more constructive if a moderator wouldn't be putting such pet-peeving ambiguous sarcastic comments.
@TomWijsman your comments have not always been direct and polite either. You're proving my point: ambiguous comments in meta threads don't help matters. If you actually tried to have a dialogue, you might be able to understand one another better, if it were to the point.
@nhinkle So... What have I done to Random? Can you point me to an example?
I would prefer not to get personally involved in your debate. I'm merely suggesting that you try talking with one another to resolve your differences.

And that's still not a reason to do what he did.
@nhinkle: We've been talking for more than an hour today.
Sorry to butt in... I want to be clear, I am not taking sides at all... meta.superuser.com/questions/3232/…
At this point I'm going to agree with Kronos and suggest that you maybe take a short break. Go answer some non-meta questions, or just do something else for a bit. I'm not sure what you want, but it seems that you don't want to have a dialogue, so perhaps you just need to take a deep breath, and approach the situation with new eyes tomorrow.
@WilliamHilsum I'm not seeing exceptional privileges be implemented, see my comment for yet another idea but I guess it's not going to get checked frequently enough.
@nhinkle Well, this is the only thing I'm assuming: Random doesn't want one.
@nhinkle Honestly, I've got quite some studying and work to do the next days so I won't be here anyway.
@TomWijsman well, good luck with your work, and I hope that when you do have time to return, we can all approach this politely and with a new outlook.
Ping @random: Read nhinkle's comments. Hope we can forget about this and start anew... ^
@nhinkle Today was more of a procrastination day, too distracted/upset/bored to learn. Started bad with a discussion about the post Ivo said as a comment, then I went to watch some TV and when I wanted to go back to Super User (although I said I wouldn't), random pinged me on chat and it started again... :(

@TomWijsman but, I think it is best and will solve everything... I think it should be a privilege and it would solve everything, either a very high reputation privilege or simply (Was it you @Nhinkle on the MSO page?) a high record of good edits.
@WilliamHilsum this is the first time I've seen that MSO page
@TomWijsman Maybe just a little break, explore the other sites, you know?
Sorry... It was Studiohack!

What can be done?
@Borisyo You know you've let a question with bounty expire with no explanation, right? :P
I don't know.
@Borisyo It looks like they determined, for whatever reason, the question wasn't of sufficient quality for the site, based on that message. Not a lot else to say, with no more information.
@sidran32 Maybe you know how to have Sleep and Hybrid Sleep?
@Boris_yo This is the question that expired by the way: superuser.com/questions/320098/…
And I know about Sleep and Hybrid sleep. Why?
You need to turn it on?
23:33
I want to have either Sleep or Hybrid Sleep.
If you have Windows... you do. Do you want to put the computer into sleep, you mean?
If i choose Hybrid Sleep then it replaces Sleep.
So i cannot put to Sleep, only to Hybrid Sleep.
Hybrid Sleep effectively does the same thing as Sleep, except if the computer loses power, it also treats it as a hibernate, so when you boot back up, it resumes from where you left off.
So you really only want hybrid sleep. There's no benefit to simply sleep, if you have hybrid sleep enabled.
That's why they have hybrid sleep replace regular sleep.
I know but Sleep is faster. Hybrid Sleep takes time to write to hyberfil.sys file.
Then you want to turn off sleep, and then enable hibernate.
err, turn off hybrid sleep
Then you can get both options.
Hibernate will shut down the computer totally, though.
23:37
Well i actually wanted Sleep, Hybrid Sleep and Hibernate.
Windows only lets you use either Sleep (and Hibernate, if you want) or Hybrid Sleep.
Close lid - Sleep, hit Sleep button - Hibernate, hit Power Button - Hybrid Hibernate
Sorry. :P You can only enable sleep or hybrid sleep. Can't have both (without some unknown hack, which I doubt exists).
Thanks and goodbye. Did not see so many answers on my question with expired bounty...
No problem

Q: Is there a way to automatically switch profiles for a RAT mouse?

MBraedleySo I bought a Cyborg RAT 7 mouse a while back, and I love it, except for one thing: it's not automatically selecting the profile for the game I've just started. This is annoying because, for instance, I have the forward and back buttons, as well as the side scroll set up for weapon selection in ...

Think it's okay if I toss this one your way?
