yea, that poor dog. :(
00:48
Some of the comments are pretty intense!
Like Wolf vs. German Shepherd, for example.
yeah
@Bob probably will never. However, I do have (well, cheap) gear the average person wouldn't bother with ;p

1 hour later…
02:03
Deal or no deal?
02:33
looks alright to me. From the place I got mine (goulet pens) the ink's about 12.50 a bottle that size. I think the pens are creapers, which are ~14 bucks a piece
It's an extra $15 for shipping however...
thats pretty standard ><
03:31
Does anyone have a spare build box ?
12 gigs of source :'(
And repo can't resume interrupted downloads
At 50KB/s it will take me 6 nights and I can't pause ._.
03:51
12GB of source? :O
@MichaelFrank CM 11
ooh CM 11 uses Clang instead of gcc
Need to find a way to edit that file

1 hour later…
Bob
Bob
05:14
@MichaelFrank I do it all the time. [[!desc](imglink)](imglink)
@OliverSalzburg cucumbers grow on vines, so you'll need to set up some kind of lattice for the vines to grow on
also, it often helps to manually pollinate
huh, apparently there's a bush variety
Still a bad idea, some of the repos are HUGE
Hmm perhaps I could download all this in my VPS and then rsync
rsync can resume
ooh rsync supports compression
06:41
crap git is using too much memory while fetching :'(
Bob
Bob
o.O
LOL
And I think @Ash was the one who asked originally. See above :P
07:23
yup, but I am kinda sure it was mentioned before that
;p
07:51
Bleh, repo is apparently a python script and it's using too much memory :'(
fuck, out of space in the vps
look like it's more than 13 gigs
According to the cm wiki it's 12 gigs
08:21
@Bob Oh. Thanks for the heads-up!#
Apparently the download size is 12 gigs
It occupies some 20 gigs on the HDD
> Note: The source download is approximately 8.5GB in size. You will need over 30GB free to complete a single build, and up to 100GB (or more) for a full set of builds.
Bob
Bob
@OliverSalzburg other tips: if you have harsh sunlight, put some overturned flowerpots over the young ones
we have some luffa and other melons growing :P
huh, technically a luffa is a cucumber O_O
or same family anyway
(though, we just pull the male flowers off and directly touch them... easier than trying to find a little paintbrush :P)
@Bob Sweet. I'll do that
Does anyone have a spare VPS that has ~20 gigs of space ? I'll download cm there and I'll rsync it onto my computer
I should be able to download it within a week
@Bob @allq any empty vpses that i could borrow?
Bob
Bob
09:13
> My first successful craft to take off from Eve was "Eve Rescue Lander 10".

8 and 9 are still in orbit around the planet after "simulations" (quicksave) determined that they couldn't land with enough fuel to take off again. 5 and 7 are on the ground, unable to take off successfully - 5 landed at an angle and couldn't turn (Aerospikes have no thrust vectoring!), 7 was a bit too.. explody.. while staging on ascent. We still don't talk about 1-4, or 6.
hehe
@HackToHell sure
what do you need it for?
@HackToHell do you need a full VPS?
I have a download server for stuff like this
09:33
I'm trying to download cyanogenmod 11 source. it's bloody huge and I can't resume downloads.
@HackToHell: I might be able to help there
what would I need?
So I thought I'll download it to a box and then rsync
@JourneymanGeek git and a box with 20 gigs of space
It will take me a week to download it from the box :/
And rsync can compress stuff, it's mostly c sources
@Bob so you going to combine them and make a space station :-)
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek well, it wasn't me :P
@HackToHell: or I can download and compress it into smaller, managable chunks ;p
Bob
Bob
09:36
@HackToHell do you still want me to do anything, or just @JourneymanGeek?
Oh god typing from the phone is hard
Anyway @JourneymanGeek you need repo tool
linkie linkie!
Essentially it downloads several repos from Github and aosp
Bob
Bob
...should I take the lack of response as a "no"?
09:39
Err
Oh boy
@Bob I think so
Bob
Bob
k
I'm not on my computer right now and it's hard to type
@JourneymanGeek I think it will be easier if I rsync it
Cause about 50 repos are downloaded to different folders and stuff
Yrah
The default. Xml file specifies the different repoa
And I think I pissed off @bob
I'm a dummy
I should have run repo sync in screen
also, that was the right link, right? ;p
09:47
Yeah
It will download 12 gigs of stuff
According to the wiki anyway
XD
Thats not very much
That's a lot o_0
And I suppose the lack of response from @bob means I did piss him off
Bob
Bob
@HackToHell or that I'm doing something else
@JourneymanGeek I'll rsync it from your server?
@HackToHell: my seedbox at home ;p
09:52
@bob ok
hence me wondering if I could compress it effectively
@JourneymanGeek cool hopefully you don't have a data cap. It's 12 gigs down and another 12 up
Great then
10:07
Ping me when you are done and thanks!
10:53
superuser.com/a/756008/98855 spam? but looks like an ok program. User seems to be drive-by in such that after they dropped it they did not stick around. Answers the question, but probably still spam?
11:13
@Bob weird ship
omg
11:38
Stupid Math: SuperUser would need ~192,000 new users a day for 10 years before it could say it even served 10% of the population.
I guess it is no wonder how someone can set-up any ol' web site , as bad as it might be and still have people showing up at it. Hard to tell (via the web) how many people own computers, claims range from 22%-42% of the population. With a claim of over 75% owning mobile phones, many of which have a browser.
@Psycogeek The human population is HUGE
Anyone here worked with Lync UCWA API ?
12:23
LOL documentcloud.org/documents/… like thats gonna work. I think people would have to think that some aspects of these social media are real, or have usefull information to begin with :-)
Not to mention the flood of crap flowing in and out of such locations daily, how any one group could think they could infuence anything using them.
The Cat video had a message in it.
13:20
Man, leave it to Verizon and the FCC... I got an "update" to my phone's firmware (undoubtedly the only one we'll get until approximately September), and it didn't even upgrade from 4.4 to 4.4.2 -_- WTF VerirolaFCC
on the plus side, it seems they deployed a new radio, and it gets slightly better reception
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic still on 4.3 here :P
I'm one 4.4.2 wheee
Though Camera, WiFi direct, Bluetooth isn't working
And I can't find a way to swap my SD card
@Bob You could switch to CM
Bob
Bob
@HackToHell cbf
wonders if that's a sear word
!! urban cbf
@HackToHell This command has been removed due to an excessive number of risqué results. It can be readded after some sanitisation is added. Feel free to do so here.
13:34
@Bob Ok .-.
@HackToHell can't be effed
@HackToHell your eyes are beneath your nose?
@allquixotic That's inverted ._.
Means I don't really understand what he just said
13:47
hi guys!
here is another microsoft question
is it possible to install swedish windows 7 over over english windows xp?
i will be doing an upgrade
and you never know this with microsoft stuff, they like to make this a living hell
Yes it is... You can upgrade using the upgrade option when you put in a Windows 7 disc and boot onto it.
i recently did a clean install of my HP laptop with windows 8, it came with 8.0 and i couldn't do clean install of 8.1 over that because 8.1 has different sku and what not
I would back up the files if i where you before i did that though
the problem here is... this user has swedish windows xp oem
it's so bloated... it's...
it has to be reinstalled first
so clean install of windows xp
then upgrade to windows 7
Well i know it is possible to upgrade from 1.0 all the way up to 8.1 and keep the files and settings... But i dont know about jumping from XP straight to 7, and not through Vista
13:53
the problem... really... is that there is no swedish MSDN ISO to be found anywhere for Windows XP
and i don't like to pay 40,000 SEK for premium MSDN subscription to get some new life into this computer
it's a desktop HP by the way, but the Windows XP swedish disc is nowhere to be found
so i have downloaded the english MSDN ISO for windows xp, and burned a disc from it
I may be able to help you... I have a list of ISO files on ALL languages and editions for windows 2000 and up... Give me a sec
but then it will be english xp > swedish 7
so that's why i was wondering if this transition or upgrade path is possible
i know x64 and x86 is not
@DJZorrow i would very much appreciate that, if you could just put up a working url where i can download the swedish windows xp with sp3 and x86, that would take out some of the guesswork for me
nothing illegal going on here really, in case mods start to wonder :)
this user that i'm helping has legal OEM license for XP
and it's OEM pc from HP
@Bob Don't hate me! D:
I... downloaded... Beats Music... on my phone
>______>
It's. Not. Bad.
Bob
Bob
!!tell 15601653 no
Bob
Bob
14:00
I don't know you.
@DJZorrow just post the url here if you find it, i have to go now, thanks in advance!
I like its music collection "curation" stuff. "The Sentence", catering to your tastes, etc. Rivals Pandora. and then it can play individual songs if you pick them
and it doesn't drop out all the f time like Spotify
Spotify must use like a 2 ms buffer, which is disastrous on my phone since the bluetooth stack is laggy
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic Never had any issues with Spotify dropping out.
14:01
also, the first song it picked for me, I love O.o
@Bob no, I know, it's my phone. Android 4.4.0 has known (serious!) bluetooth stack issues with some chipsets, and I'm bitten by it
Bob
Bob
Well, as long as the internet connection works.
that's why I was super disappoint that this OTA wasn't 4.4.2
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic Bluetooth issues affect Spotify/dropping out?
.
4.2.2 (JB) was awesome tho
Bob
Bob
I get 3G issues.
14:02
@sammyg Here you go: http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/4/d/84d118c8-e8be-4c40-adc7-10a9b8159a0f/WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-SVE.exe

Note: Official copy directly from Microsoft. No piracy!
@Bob no, I mean, it's not "song doesn't download fast enough", it's "pressing the power button to put the screen to sleep makes the BT drop out for 2 seconds"
Bob
Bob
o.O
hrm.
I think Android apps are allowed to decide how much buffering they do; apps that buffer enough (like Google Play Music and apparently Beats) work fine; apps that try to be more "responsive" and drop their buffering size kill me
Bob
Bob
It actually has proper thumb buttons.
Tempting.
Same price as a Razer DeathAdder
@Bob at least I snapped out of the psychological mode of almost buying an iPad Mini over the weekend -_-
"dat resolution / form factor ^.^" ....... "wait. Apple. !!no"
Bob
Bob
14:05
@allquixotic ...does the water taste funny?
Heh. I visited one of the larger electronics retailers today.
That Sony 10" tablet looks sleek.
@Bob no. I'm getting on a plane and taking a vacation. I thought it'd be nice to buy a device with Verizon LTE and pop my sim card into it and have one device to rule them all that I can take with me, instead of having to do wifi tethering from my phone to whatever
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic Oh? Where are you going?
come to think of it, I could probably do a Nexus 7 (the new model) with LTE, and make that work as my one device
might do that :P plus Nexus 7 is super cheap
@Bob oh, just halfway across the US
mom's bday
Bob
Bob
14:08
hm. my laptop has that possible msata port
but I really have no idea what it does :P
@allquixotic ah. have fun!
we're going to see baseball games :D
as it stands, if I make no new device purchases, I'll be toting around my phone and one of (haven't decided yet) my 2012 Nexus 7, OR my Yoga 2
@Bob: that mouse looks sweet
that's the first hit when I google "droid maxx bluetooth pops"
-____- my own post
lol
might be getting a bluetooth device in july
Is there any way that a technical illiterate on a non-sudoer account can install crapware FF-addons if the addon tab is password protected? I assume in Windows a 3rd-party installer can insert a .xpi file on FF's folder during the next-next-install, but I figure on Linux a technically illiterate user wouldn't be so familiar with installing apps.
Bob
Bob
14:11
Bluetooth... device?
I ask this because after 3 malware outbreaks I forced my dad to use Ubuntu. I assumed it would be impossible for him to install malwares, only to find a dozen crapware firefox addons and toolbars.
@ThatBrazilianGuy try it. if you have further issues after that, install GNU/Hurd.
@Bob: yeah - that the bluetooth varient of the new creative USB soundcard/headphone amp ;p
Its not a traditional headset (though it has a mic)
I am supposing this might be enough, but with technically illiterate people, you never know.
@ThatBrazilianGuy I guess, if he downloaded a Java .jnlp and ran it using Java WebStart, it'd execute with local trust, and could do whatever
14:13
Gonna wait on reviews - but likely I'll be a fairly early adopter, especially since I can buy it off creative directly
@ThatBrazilianGuy well, make sure you disable the Java plugin
@allquixotic I don't even know what a .jnlp is O_o
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek can't decide if it's worth the price :P
@ThatBrazilianGuy: you could set up his system mostly read only
@ThatBrazilianGuy a jnlp is basically a file that's a link providing instructions for your system to download and run a Java Desktop app, which runs with local trust
Bob
Bob
14:14
@allquixotic Just take Java off.
@Bob: I'd find it useful. Just not entirely sure if I want/need bluetooth, or if its worth being ~double the cost
@JourneymanGeek he could, but the problem is that FF needs read-write to its profile or it won't run, and this user keeps installing malware addons to the browser
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek I meant the mouse, but okay :P
And incidentally I'm surely probably possibly maybe (who knows?) migrating a 50+ PC lab from Windows to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, so I'd apply the same "technically illiterate user babysitting" approach there.
@Bob: ahh. Are you happy with your current mouse? ;p
14:15
btw as far as bluetooth I'm 100% satisfied with my Meelectronics AirFi Matrix 2 headphones... LET'S TALK ABOUT HEADPHONES AGAIN /sarc
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic Make the extensions folder read-only.
Actually, you can disallow addon installation from about:config IIRC
@JourneymanGeek it's decent enough but it's 5+ years old now and getting a bit dodgy
@allquixotic Oh, so YOU're the one with the meelecs :P
@Bob: then its worth considering ;p
@Bob you'd also need to password-protect about:config, and disallow the user from browsing files on the local filesystem or even pulling up a user shell, because they could change the stuff back
@Bob yes, always have been :) and god I love them
@Bob I could block Java altogether on my dad's PC, because the only common usage of Java is in online banking (all banks here seem to use the same java solution); but on a public uni lab I have to leave it on for (1) the students that want to do a quick banking, and (2) the gazillion rare cases
lol. I mostly love my Fishers.
Bob
Bob
14:16
@allquixotic no, because a tech-illiterate won't be going there
the first pair I got was the AirFi Matrix 1, BT 3.0, they are fine, but the BT 4.0 LE ones have much longer battery life
Bob
Bob
holy shit
@allquixotic I just ordered two pairs of the random ones: ozbargain.com.au/node/144450
(other that them not being outside phones)
@Bob huh. "random". that's odd. :P
the proper BT headsets are pricier than any of those they'll be sending you, tho
@Bob Hm. Interesting.
14:18
@allquixotic: those are wired
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic yea, kinda expected that :P
plus they have fake kevlar on the ear cups :D
Bob
Bob
and too bulky too
fake kevlar ftw
and seem to be pretty good value (unless you got the top end ones, in which case WHOA NELLY)
Bob
Bob
14:18
I'm currently looking for something portable
fake... kevlar?
@JourneymanGeek looks like kevlar, but it's just painted on fabric :P
difference between fake and real: kevlar is used as actual structural protection on my smartphone (Droid Maxx), but Meelectronics is all about the fake kevlar appearance
I seem to recall kevlar being fugly looking ;p
I have a military helmet somewhere
(probably needs chewing on so I can get it exchanged.)
Bob
Bob
That reminds me, I still have a windows 8 headset here somewhere I should try
14:20
OH
thats fake carbon fiber
that's the kevlar pattern on my phone :P
carbon fiber is pretty
of course, I have Beats on my phone now, so Bob automatically hates my phone
Bob
Bob
I walked out of that store today shortly after seeing their Beats (and other related brands) display.
meet Bob IRL -> "hey, nice to meet you fina--" Bob: "Gimme that. *snatches phone* *uninstalls Beats*"
14:23
What's with all this kevlar and carbon and audiophile stuff? What are you guys? Some kind of geeks?
We should discuss browsers and distros like normal people do! ;p
Bob
Bob
Hm. $470 for a return flight to India. Ok...
I remember once when I was at a friend's talking about videogames a computers, and he started talking to another friend who's a car motor geek. The went on about engines and custom-built arduino electrical pieces and an engine he's optimizing at home and etc etc etc...
After a moment I realized: "Wow! So that's how other people usually feel near me!"
@ThatBrazilianGuy ;p
optimizing an ECU with an Arduino sounds awesome, and complex... and potentially dangerous
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic The Toyota debacle comes to mind.
@Bob exactly. unintended acceleration, not enough acceleration, stalling out, redlining, etc. all possible
14:33
@ThatBrazilianGuy: I know a guy who probably would do that ;p
you have to test the shit out of that kind of thing before you start using it on a vehicle on a real roadway with other humans around you who are depending on you driving safely for their own safety
even the professionals get it wrong sometimes
@allquixotic: beats the music service or beats the unequaliser?
hopefully he's only going to use his Arduino-based ECU on a race track or something
@JourneymanGeek the music service (which is now part of Apple.....?!)
ahh ok
So you're one of the 2 20 000 people who use it
Bob
Bob
...wtf php

Q: Why in_array matches needle 0 to any given haystack?

Index$arrValue = array('first', 'second'); $ret = in_array(0, $arrValue); var_dump($ret); var_dump($arrValue); Above example gives following result: bool(true) array(2) { [0]=> string(5) "first" [1]=> string(6) "second" } Why in_array matches needle 0 to any given haystack? PHP Version 5.2.5

14:34
@allquixotic Or maybe it was electronic fuel injection. Dunno, when it comes to cars I'm a 200% noob. Maybe it wasn't arduino, but it was custom-made circuitry. And he imported it. And yes, it is ilegal AFAIK.
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic have you seen itunes recently?
I'd stay the fuck away, and that's actually ignoring the beats side of things :\
@ThatBrazilianGuy: oh, might just be messing with engine timings, compression ratios and such
@Bob: I was bitching about that 2 days or so ago
Bob
Bob
My dad has an iphone. itunes is the most fucking retarded piece of software I've used in recent memory
that might be because I haven't touched Kies in over a year, for good reason...
or more directly, how there is no way to sync music out of an iphone without third party software
I hate itunes probably with the same intensity @bob hates Beats.
Bob
Bob
14:37
@ThatBrazilianGuy On one hand, I'd say you probably shouldn't mention illegal in a place like this. On the other... Brazil :\
I'm honestly not sure they care :\
Actually. Please tell me they do.
Depends. Who are "they"? The NSA? Probably not.
Bob
Bob
@ThatBrazilianGuy Your gov? :P
@Bob yes, I have
Bob
Bob
Would they care about illegal car mods?
this is a streaming service that's only $9.99/month
if Apple increases it to $12.99 or something, I'll have to decide if I want to keep it or move to something cheaper that may not be as good
14:39
@Bob Well, the police would certainily care about findind anything illegal in your car.
In fact, they care so much that if they can't find anything, sometimes they'll plant it there for you! :)
Well, maybe it's a jokingly exageration. But the practice of bribery is so damn common, it's even expected. :( (And not only for police. Politicians, inspection profesionals, bureaucrats...)
@Bob lol
I once wrote to the support dept of a service we were hiring and they literally actually replied: "this is not a bug, it's a feature".
Me: "Your paid login solution allows multiple concurrent logins for the same user"
Them: "Oh, it's not a bug! It's a feature!"
(Back in 2009 I knew even less than I know now, and I was the more tech-savvy of the team, so paying for a login solution seemed acceptable.)
15:02
hmm. "incoming call from Kingston, Jamaica" --> !!no
need to set up a call blocker for those Jamaican lottery scammers
What? Are 911 scammers now using phonecalls?
@ThatBrazilianGuy yup
except they're coming from Jamaica
and they're "876" scammers
Well, that's somewhat common here to receive random phonecalls from criminals pretending to be a relative. They scream "Mom! Help!", the desperate victim says their son/daughter name, and that's it, they've fallen for it.
Virtual fake kidnappings without a kidnapped person
But the phonecalls will always come from the same country.
In fact, they come from smuggled phones and are originated inside the jail.
And the criminals ask for a ransome in form of prepaid phone credit.
Bob
Bob
@ThatBrazilianGuy Huh, I thought I was male. Huh, I didn't know I had children!
speaking of scammers...
If anyone did that, I'd say "OH MY GOD. DID YOU FEED THE CAT?"
15:10
@Bob They adapt. They use a noisy environment, mask their voice and make it sound desperate, so it could be either from a girl, boy, young male or female
Damn, mailinator is down. How will I get freebies now? :(
(actually I trained everyone in my family to ask questions that a fake person would assume is real, and a real person would know is fake)
Bob
Bob
hehe

I would be happy that someone called me. :'(
@DJZorrow thanks! but unfortunately, that is the service pack 3 for xp only, it is not a complete operating system
Bob
Bob
too much wtf
@DJZorrow you can also see by the file extension, this is an exe file, while operating system images are normally iso files
@Bob ah yes, the difference between a language designed from scratch to be used by others (.NET, Java) and a language designed as a fun side project "just for me" :)
