I woke up looked at the clock and it said 4:04, i am like OMG time is broken now.
It's not broken, it just can't be found

So... working with a guy that has resigned and has his last day next wednesday... He decided we'd have lunch at 11am then take the rest of the day off. I can't complain!
Cool
I'll be back later guys, gonna go pick up mini-me
This might be my favorite answer I have written on SU:

A: How to start a program when another one is started

PaulYou could probably set up specific pairs of apps to run using the registry, and altering what deals with mimetypes. However another more generic way, and far more complex, is to use the Task Scheduler. The task scheduler can start an app based various types of triggers, including Event Log entr...

It is both accurate, and a little ludicrous. But it does demonstrate the power of the Windows task scheduler pretty well.
@Paul I'm reading that right now!

@Paul I have used it to convert event to speech, so i can finnaly get the star trek computer.
00:43
@Psycogeek Hah, cool.
The method you presented could potentially do this one too superuser.com/questions/678019/windows-custom-sound-events
back in XP most of the applications themselves could have seperated open and closed sounds applied to them . "running notepad" , etc.I had it applied back there especially for slow starting apps (which do not exist anymore) so i would know in fast moves that it was starting. (that the button was pressed, that the action has actually begun, not pressed so quick that it did not occur, or slid off the icon)
@Psycogeek I think the batch file approach is probably more straightforward there. Just change the default application for http/https etc to be the batch file, and run that.
Cant break anything else in the process, because there are 7 ways to do things, if one doesnt work then there is always the backups.
@Psycogeek Yeah for sure. I am trying to think of a better way to do the "start app when another app starts"

@DemCodeLines well did you get the drive replaced ? or fixed? I was thinking if i had 2 fragile disks go, i would be doing the SSD thing. even when SSD was a scary drive to have with failures everywhere (a year ago), laptops seemed like prime candiates for them.
... so this xbox360 just RROD'd during a tournament I'm watching on Twitch.
when my 3.5 HDs are spun up, and I rotate them in the air, i can feel the gyroscopic pull on the flywheel (platters). When these heads are like microns away from touching, I am thinking ok lets not do that either. I dont even move my computer when spun-up , to chicken.
03:28
@Psycogeek somehow, 2.5" laptop HDDs are very good at preventing themselves from being damaged that way -- maybe they make the write heads extra strong so they aren't easily moved by external forces? idk
desktop 3.5" disks are not made to be moved or bumped while in operation, but laptop disks are, and you have to bump a modern laptop disk pretty hard to damage it
the classic iPod also used a miniature HDD with a similar design to laptop HDDs, just smaller
and they made those for a long time until NAND chips could chunk out enough space for "enough" MP3s to satisfy most people
I've just identified a major security problem affecting *.stackexchange.com. The Stack Exchange team has been contacted.
ah, they still make them
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic I've bumped my tower a few times. Still no problems, thankfully.
@DragonLord o.O
@DragonLord what was it?
@Bob yeah, me too, but nothing really major... just knee bumps mainly
Bob
Bob
Now I'm curious. Can you share details after they fix it?
@allquixotic Actually dropped it about 10cm (4 in) once or twice.
03:40
who was it that talked to me about Universim? was that @Bob or was that @JourneymanGeek ?
Please disregard, this is a typosquatter site.
Probably bob
@DragonLord as in it's not a security issue?
@allquixotic this is not a security issue.
@allquixotic I was so amazed at the microdrives, and the survival ability, i wanted to get one just to play with it.

Meh kick starter won't load. And fb only loads on the phone that's online, not my teathered gear
the universim's trailer says the following word

I'll support it just for that
I support Linux... Will you support me?
also, nice trailer
I've submitted another message to the team to cancel out the erroneous report.
@Bob @JourneymanGeek you guys don't have to back The Universim if you don't want to; I went in at the $70 level for four keys (to the full game, not just beta keys) and I'll be giving one to each of you :)

@MichaelFrank Are 3501s good ?
It's 120 (~2$) cheaper than 3590
@HackToHell ahh, I'm not sure. Turns out that my ones are Panasonic. They look similar though.
I worked in retail for a good while though, and those will probably sound about as good as any other headphones at that price range.

I've got a project at school, we need to design a system (which devices we should use) and finally we will need to program something in C/Java.
Now for the sake of completeness, I was searching for "EMP resistant computers" since it's for "industrial use". I'm using google, but "emp resistant computers" or "industrial computers" doesn't give any juicy information. Any idea what keyword I should use?
Ps: it isn't something serious, so we will not implement it IRL. It seems that the C/java part is where the focus is. So if I couldn't really find an "emp resistant pc" then I will just use a robust (maybe server) computer
try supress emp computers

Electromagnetic shielding is the practice of reducing the electromagnetic field in a space by blocking the field with barriers made of conductive or magnetic materials. Shielding is typically applied to enclosures to isolate electrical devices from the 'outside world', and to cables to isolate wires from the environment through which the cable runs. Electromagnetic shielding that blocks radio frequency electromagnetic radiation is also known as RF shielding. The shielding can reduce the coupling of radio waves, electromagnetic fields and electrostatic fields. A conductive enclosure use...
Basically, you'd end up with a faraday cage - but you'd also need to shield all cables, including power.
And even then it depends on the strength of the EMP.
This is not something to do at home.
Oh thanks!
06:37
@Bob chicken wire and grounding :-)
Lots of the military stuff (at least) is put in a metal shell/case
which is perfect when you have to hike 20 miles
I have used Mylar before, once i found out that the metalic mylars really do have a thin metal on them. a wrap of that can disable the RF from getting out of my phone.
(and might make cool conspiracy hats, keep out those alien communications)
I was thinking with all the RF flying about , if Chain Mail would make a comeback.

Q: Why SEO couldn't possible in Flash websites like any digital bespoke media or animation websites?

user3567307Is it possible to do SEO for flash website? If yes then how and if no then why?

Ugg, not the greatest migration.
Bob
Bob
07:12
@Psycogeek That's an understatement.
How about "fucking terrible migration"? :P
@Psycogeek You'd still have to filter any external inputs. Mostly power and networking, but also any other wires leading in, such as keyboard, mouse, monitor (assuming you aren't sitting in the cage).
@Psycogeek Would that be effective against a weapon-scale EMP?
@Bob no the plastic would melt?
Bob
Bob
Weapon-scale EMP would probably be at least thousands of times stronger than your standard EMR.
like you said, depends on the energy output
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek Well, no, plastic wouldn't be directly affected.
But it might induce some pretty high currents (and therefore heat) in any metal shielding, and that might be enough to melt things? I dunno.
Plastic should be transparent to EMR.
@Bob like if you put it in the microwave, the metal would "attract" the energy just like a lightning rod.
Bob
Bob
07:16
Anyone put pure plastic (without food) in a microwave oven to see if that gets heated?
I've never tried.
I have tried it

> More correctly: it seems that when we parse "typedef struct Bar { } Bar;" we create two TYPE_DECL: first, one marked as DECL_IMPLICIT_TYPEDEF_P in pushtag_1 (via create_implicit_typedef); then a second, real, one in grokdeclarator, via build_lang_decl (TYPE_DECL... ). When we do lookup for "struct Bar bar", it can happen, depending on layout details, that the second one is found, thus the check in check_elaborated_type_specifier triggers.
I just gave up trying to understand when I read "grokdeclarator" :S

@Bob can I have the Album List sort by Album Artist?
Currently if I sort by Artist, it puts songs with featured artists in a seperate category.
Bob

@MichaelFrank You shouldn't need to sort to do a mass rename...
Oh the rename finished like 10 minutes ago.
Bob
Bob
If you really want sorting: linustechtips.com/main/topic/…

Bob

or define a custom column
You can use %album artist% as a custom column pattern: wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/…
10:27
Ahh yep, that wiki should be enough.
%<album artist>%|[%album%]|[[%discnumber%.]%tracknumber%. ][%track artist% - ]%title%
Works perfectly! :D
10:59
Why people try update windoze 7, instead clean install 8? is there a money advantage , or they cant find a torrent :-) or something? because (as usual) it seems to be a bad way to install 8?
Like 2 people still had win7 recover partitions in there ? all these disasters waiting to happen.
PLEASE I NEED THE TASK SUBMITTED IN 3HOURS , umm your fired :-)
@Psycogeek Because upgrading keeps all your programs and settings intact and really isn't that bad.
@MichaelFrank does it keep all the drivers straight? it takes me the first 2 days to do that usually ?
It worked for me perfectly twice.
There were other circumstances that required me to run a clean install.
@MichaelFrank did you have any software or driver items that are obsolete or not yet operational on 8? (excluding games)
@Psycogeek Yea, my mouse. But there was a firmware upgrade that fixed that.
Skype needed tweaking, as it would crash on shutdown due to the way windows shuts down the audio service. Effectively Skype would try and play the sign out sound AFTER the audio service had been stopped, causing it to error and stop the shutdown event.
11:16
Oh yea that. That is totally different. the new way the OS comes and goes to be super speedy.
superuser.com/questions/745470/… you would think Mr. MustHaveItNow would show back up at his own question (seen last only after posting)
Maybey the "seen last" thing in the profiles is not a good indicator. I have been glancing at them to see if a spam like question is a hit'n'run.
@Psycogeek I think it's more like a case of 'nobody answered me instantly, stuff this site!'
I know I've been in situations where I have had to create a forum account to get support and have completely forgotten about it.
11:31
OOps, now what username was i using there :-)
I have been to some sites, and i know i am in the machine, but for the life of me i cant get the username password right. so it is to register again, where of course i discover my user name is used.
There should be Humans :-) somewhere, the machines cant replace em.
Hey remember me ? NO! , we have 100,000 users here. Well no you dont, because i have had to re-register 90,000 times .
@Psycogeek This is why I use Lastpass. :D
And they just Love it, oh they got users comming out of thier ears, the fact that none of them have visted in 8 months , does not mean a thing to the Marketing strategy.

@allquixotic And here's one thing I never thought I would miss in Java: there's no .join for strings/arrays in the default libs
wtf.
@Bob >_<
yeah, Java is missing a lot of stuff in the core runtime; that's why Apache Commons exists
couple years ago for a senior university project I had to do a several page paper analyzing an arbitrarily picked class out of the Apache Commons Collections, and it was really buggy and unsafe, so I dunno if they've fixed that in the last while, but a lot of people found big problems when we were doing that
13:10
@Bob .join ?
Like concat ?
Bob
Bob
Exists in pretty much every language with libraries worth a damn.
@allquixotic Sucks when you're not allowed to use external libs, though.
I mean, join is basic stuff.
I'm honestly shocked it doesn't exist.
@Bob TIL there exists a function to do that :P
@Bob pull the sources into your tree? :D
worst case, amalgamate all the sources into a single file, or even put them within one of your own files ;p
Bob
Bob
@HackToHell It's only in JS, Python, Perl, C#, etc., etc., etc.
just remove public from class declarations hehe
Bob
Bob
13:13
@allquixotic heh, I actually considered doing that :P
then realised it was overkill and just used a stringbuilder
@Bob I know only Java and I'm learning C
funny thing is, Java SE's library is hideously complex... yet it doesn't have such a basic thing -_-
So yeah, I'm highly inexperienced to be talking about coding

@allquixotic All those structures remind me of heartbleed
ooh, you use kzalloc instead of malloc in kernels
And I didn't realize it was this simple to write a kernel module
I expected several hundred lines of code :P

@HackToHell awesome :D (I recently bought KSP)
one of the first things I did was mod the electric ion engine and the cockpit... made a custom cockpit that generates xenon gas and electricity, and made the ion engine have up to 10,000 thrust... a single ion engine can get me from the launchpad to the Mun in like 3 minutes real time, no time dilation

Q: CMD - System and computer architecture command(s)

SpiderporkWhat's the main command(s) for windows cmd to know everything (if it's possible) about the operating system installed and the computer architecture, such as CPU architecture or about the memory... ? Is wmic an helpful command? Thank you in advance.

I think it's a great question..I gave it an upvote but some won't appreciate it because they have no interest in cpu architecture or what it means or computer science.
