New ip address, just waiting for it to propagate
00:34
@CanadianLuke waiting, waiting, waiting. connection timeout.
00:45
ditto
Comp has been freezing lately, not overheating, no BSODs, no errors minus a kernel power error in event viewer
Clearing my logs to check closer next time...
01:02
@ekaj Well it couldn't possibly be overheating AND freezing at the same time. ;)
I'm gonna have troubleshooting to do when I get home
ooh, that was fast
@JourneymanGeek Damn... :/
Naw, I suppose thats good ;p
it's a Sylvan kinda night for me
01:07
I saw an answer yesterday on gaming.se that was just "This doesn't work, find a better way" by a user named 'fuck u'
why does SE let people set their display name to "fuck u"?
Anonymous
@allquixotic why not?
fuck the police
(not really)

(really)
@ekaj ekaj having a busted down house door in 3... 2.... 1...
01:10
My dorm door is wide open!
better board it up then
@allquixotic It was an unregistered account. But I agree that it seems odd there is no banlist on offensive names.
01:29
@MichaelFrank maybe they think it'll just cause an arms race
"fuck u" banned --> someone makes it with the upside down "f" character, u with umlaut, etc.
"For every gigabyte of data that you move, an additional gigabyte of transaction logs is generated at the source and target server. Verify that you have sufficient free space on your transaction log drives"
wow....

lol
O.o?
what software would keep full transaction logs of all app data?
i guess besides nsa

MS Exchange mailbox move.

@MichaelFrank that's an alias for NSA
figures. my-crow-soft :-)
Membership with this foundation is effectively a get out of jail free card for speeding. o.O
could be*
02:24
@MichaelFrank that's despicable
people who speed excessively don't understand physics, and are endangering my life because of it and should serve jail time and never be allowed to drive a car again
slight speeders should be given some leniency but there has to be a line drawn somewhere so that we don't just keep ratcheting up the acceptable level until everyone is going 120 mph in neighborhoods
my favorite speeder defense is "well they need to increase the speed limit on this road, it's too slow!"
no, the speed limit is set to a safe level, and if they set the speed limit higher, you'd just speed even more
there is literally no speed limit that the sign could say that a compulsive speeder would stay within.... they'd just get better tires, faster car, etc up until they're bumping against land speed records
a compulsive speeder has the psychology that if they aren't breaking the speed limit, they are going "too slow" -- these people need to be removed from the road, permanently
I would star that if I could. :)
why can't you?
There's too many lines!
oh.
you could just star one...
GOOBY PLS
2
I'll also star that one.
02:32
lol my cat just meowed higher pitch than i've ever heard her
she said "mummow! ^_^"

Bob
02:44
Speeding is relatively rare here.
The concept of "matching speed" doesn't exist.
That said, some people still speed.
03:02
@Bob meaning what? people don't tailgate the guy in front of them?
something like 80% of American drivers feel like they're standing still unless they are actively passing cars around them... they live for the thrill of passing
They're all just training for NASCAR
my favorite thing is hearing speeders try and rationalize why they do it
"everyone else always goes way faster than me"
"I always get tailgated"
"the speed limit is too low"
"if you go slow, the cops will catch you instead"
and my favorite: "everybody does it"
we have a week's worth of headline news with dramatic drum-beating music and red banners and "BREAKING NEWS" marquees when 3 people get bombed at a race, yet 34,000 people die every year on U.S. roads
we worry about anything the news dramatizes while ignoring enormous problems on the roadways, the death toll of which is of the magnitude of having 17 9/11 attacks every year... ridiculous
that's like losing as many people as we lost on 9/11 every 3 weeks... killing ourselves on the highways
where's the apocalypse-like stern Presidential speech to address the nation every 3 weeks because another 2000+ people have died on the roads again? or do we only do that when it's rich people dying in big expensive buildings at the hand of our "enemies".
03:19
lol
@allquixotic: a lot of people just... don't notice
@JourneymanGeek 142,000 people die on the roads in India every year. that's crazy
@allquixotic: India is just... crazy
how do they deal with an average of 389 motor vehicle deaths per day in India? do they just cremate people and their cars right on the side of the road and keep driving?
a country that size, I can't even comprehend that many deaths
lol
India is a VERY big country
and very densely populated
we "only" have to scrape an average of 93 people off US roads every day, and we have a MUCH, MUCH bigger land area they're spread out on
03:23
@allquixotic: and less people
4 times as many car deaths in about 1/3rd the land area... I don't even
And india went from 60s designs to newer models pretty fast
I hear about like 1-2 fatal car crashes per week where I live
does that mean in India I'd hear of like 2-3 fatal car crashes in my metro area per day?
@allquixotic Probably more, if you factor in areas with no roads.
And I imagine there is a large population without cars or roads to drive them on.
yeah, hundreds of millions of people just eating cumin and gram flour... yummy stuff... but they make it and then eat it all themselves! XD
03:26
lol
they make 75% of the world's cumin and eat 90% of that which they make
(i'm going to india on tuesday ;p)
spending a week there, my gran broke her hip
why are you going to India? :O
oh
don't get in a crash, journeyman dog!
it sounds like you actively dislike being in India -_-
too crowded?
03:38
lol
depends on the place, but I'd rather go for happy occations ;p
and no worries, we have a local driver who takes all the backroads, and never talks on the phone while driving us ;p
(also, I'd add, flying is a pain in the ass if you're a dog. Worse if you're a pug. Which thankfully, I am not)
04:01
@JourneymanGeek I heard a horror story of a dog who got transported in the unpressurized, extremely cold cargo area of the plane and survived... poor puppy though :(
@allquixotic: There's a JRT/Pug cross at the dog run. They nearly sent it to singapore from australia via vancouver
(Very few airlines will carry pugs - snub noses means they can have issues if someone fucks up and lets them overheat)
04:14
Why 64k?
04:28
Because the length field of the heartbeat packet is 16 bit

@MichaelFrank Cause it's in beta
Anyone wanna help me troubleshoot name resolution to my website? I'm home now

How many cellphones do you own? Do you have one to fall back on to when your main is about to undergo repair in service center?
I want to have mine serviced and I don't have something to fall back on to. Should I buy cheap $25 dumbphone or get another smartphone?
Bob
Bob
@Boris_yo Heh, I have a backup Lumia.
Got it more to check out WinPhone than anything else.
@Boris_yo Really, personal preference.
Me? I'd probably go pick up a $100 Android phone.
There's some decent Huawei ones at that price point.
@Bob $100 with dual cores?
@Bob That means ordering from chinese store and giving it a crap shot?
Bob
Bob
@Boris_yo No, local stores carry Huawei :P
@Boris_yo Ya.
@Boris_yo Probably MediaTek phones
Bob
Bob
@HackToHell That particular one is a Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon, surprisingly.
08:21
@Bob And what is the price difference compared to online ordering from China?
Bob
Bob
@Boris_yo I dunno. Probably not much.
Heck, it's $50 for a Huawei Y201.
very basic, but it works
@Bob Dual core? Okay. 1GHz each? Not okay!
Bob
Bob
@Boris_yo What on earth are you expecting?
@Bob I traded in one-core 1GHz HTC for Nexus 4 and cannot think how I suffered with former.

Heck, the Y300 is not $78.

LOL NSA forced india to do this xD
National Cyber Security Policy is a proposed law by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India. which is due to be passed by parliament, aimed at protecting the public and private infrastructure from cyber attacks. Reason for Cyber Security India had no Cyber security policy before 2013. In 2013, The Hindu newspaper, citing documents leaked by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, has alleged that much of the NSA surveillance was focused on India's domestic politics and its strategic and commercial ...
@Bob Something that would not perform sluggish after 15 apps installed.
It hurts to see low specs because it reminds me of unpleasant experiences...
Well for calling only I guess it could be a choice, but then simple dumbphone would take care of that.

can you spot any error in this : String sqlcreate = " CREATE TABLE " + " ? " + "(no int primary key auto_increment," + "question varchar(300)," + "op1 varchar(100)," + "op2 varchar(100)," + "op3 varchar(100)," + "op4 varchar(100)," + "answer varchar(100))";
Bob

@Boris_yo "15 apps" is meaningless.
Also, if it's supposed to be a backup phone anyway...
@Ash What's with all the concatenations?
@OliverSalzburg concatenations?
@Bob Maybe I did mistake trading in HTC...
Ash

@OliverSalzburg thats how I saw the code back in a tutorial page.

i have learned the basics of JS so far. Just started on classes this morning
still to start on qt5 or qml
@HackToHell O_o
busy with semester?
I failed a paper in the previous semester >.<, so yeah I working on improving my hand writing
oh oops
better do
And that's not really an excuse for not learning about Qt anyway :P
I think the Qt designer tutorial is very good. But I think it uses QML or something.

08:48
@bob here is the error screen, I removed the concatenations as oliver mentioned 'em and they works fine (from sql command line).But from within java program with concatenations they some how manages to throw me an error.
09:40
@HackToHell: ow
ahh joy
File transfer off my fileserver seems to be processor limited
kinda makes sense that the old atom boxen were 10/100 only, even if I'm getting a little extra performance off the gig-e card
@JourneymanGeek And I am not sure if that's going to affect my future >_>
Ash

11:07
@Bob got it : table name can't be used as a parameter. It must be hard coded.thats why it didnt work

1 hour later…
12:17
@JourneymanGeek yep, those old Atoms don't even have a fast enough throughput into and out of the CPU from the FSB (I think they were still using FSB) to do 100 Mbps of TCP packets :P
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic I can't tell if you're awake really early or really late :P
@allquixotic That's scary.
@Bob just drying off before work.... so, about normal time

Bob
@allquixotic Oh yea. Daylight savings ended here, so I'm an hour behind compared to last month :S
@Bob so it's not quite as late for you now as it was before?

@allquixotic Yup.
12:21

Q: Google Photos Auto-Backup Exclude folder

PaulI have Auto Backup enabled in Google Now for Photos. I also have Local Folders enabled so that photos produced by apps other than the camera get backed up too. However, this then includes photos and videos from folders that I don't want to backup. The "Include Local Folders" seems to be an al...

Lots of android people here - anyone have an idea how I can do this?
Bob
Bob
> Google Now
Eh. I never enabled that.
12:30
I have an SD card with some tv shows on it, and Google Now auto backup has taken to uploading these to itself
@Paul I don't understnd how they can even do the first "blind backups without asking the user" & "where the hell is the opt-in or the off button" . WHEN simple 5 gig data packages for mobile can cost an extra $50-70 a month. I dont know how many people are willing to fork over $50 for a "free" service :-)
(so i just had to turn all that stuff off, Even if some aspects of it might be useful)
I just stick with dropbox instead of using google's backup service
How many people would say Ok, if the phone company said, "oh it's just $1000 a year to do some backups for your phone, your ok with that right?" :-)
Bob
Bob
@Psycogeek It's Google. I'm not sure they even considered limited mobile data.
@Bob Yup! I doubt that thier employees have such limitations.
12:47
@Paul I've moved from AutoBackup to a FolderSync based system. Maybe it's something you want to look into
When i see people hedging over getting a 2G external drive for a normal backup for thier data , costing around $100. Ending up waiting until they need a backup, just like waiting till you get robbed to buy a house alarm. I think they need to concider 2 pages in the manuel explaining how to Do a simple backup of the 1 or 2 flash chips on the phone to another computer. Instead lets make it easy on them.
Easy on WHO? is what i would like to know. the same people who prefer to use a coupon at the store to save 50Cents. The ones who buy on black friday because they think they are going to save $20? The ones buying crappy cheap SD card clones from e-bay , and wondering why they do not work.
Why is there like zero american products and everything is cheaply made crap from china, in most of the stores in the US? Because they are all friggen cheapskates, so why was there no conciderations for those same people in the mobile store Bitching up a storm about $300 data charges (one month).
Either someone does not "know thier market" or they are in colusion with the phone company to rape people.
13:06
I got like 80gigs of stuff on my phone, and a data package that is good for 300megs a month :-) $15 bucks a gig for each gig used after that. so a backup of it would be $1200. Then about 35Gigs of that changes about every 2 months, that is ~$3000 a year. And I was worried about paying $400 for the phone :-)
OOps ---> a '2Terrabyte' external drive for a normal backup for thier data
80 gigs of what? I have like nothing on my phone because if I try to do anything excessive I end up with no battery left..
I have google earth (type maps) squeezied onto 40gigs so i can have all offline sattalite data for the state i live in. California bigger than some countries. The rest is "media" sitcoms series and movies , recorded off of tv, shrunk down for mobile. I fill it up then delete them after being watched. Then there is a backup of the internal stuff , and apps. and layers of apps aquired over time.
Ah, makes sense
Also offline vector maps for car use. If all the Stuff is there on the phone, then i dont need the very expencive mobile data. in the wilderness and big parks, there is zero signal
That's true, it makes sense if you don't need the GPS to know where you are on the map.
13:33
GPS is everywhere. It is the cell tower coverage that seems like it is everywhere att.com/maps/wireless-coverage.html#fbid=mGBXgMM-pmA, but as soon as a person gets off the roads , outside of the city, the coverage is lost. Me thinks the people who made this map never got out of a car :-)
13:49
@Raystafarian what phone? :p I have one with an extended battery built right into the phone
@Psycogeek The options are there for switching it to just photos/vids that you take with the camera, and then extending it further, or turning it off altogether. And the photos app asks you first time if you want it. I like it, data caps are different all over the planet, and the amount it consumes doesn't impact mine very much.
@OliverSalzburg Yeah, I use foldersync inside my own network, but I want my photos to be backed up as soon as they are taken.
I got an answer to my question at android.se so I am happy now.
@allquixotic I just carry a charger around ;)
@Paul You can do that with the paid version
14:14
@OliverSalzburg To where?
@Paul To everywhere. It can watch the folders you specify and then run the sync you've set up. I sync my camera folder with GDrive
@OliverSalzburg Cool. Yeah, I only really need it for photos so that is covered with the freebie.
You can set it to do backups only when on wifi
Bob
Bob
@Raystafarian My laptop is my external charger :P
lol
I carry a battery bank ;p
14:24

@allquixotic I carry a fire bomb ;p (source)

naw, this is sorta semi-respectable
its the store brand of the local equivilent of your friendly evil large computer retailer.
(and I hardly use it. Its nice to know its there)
@JourneymanGeek can you translate "Grrrrr, bark, woof"?
and I'm guessing "Good dog" is a loanword/loanphrase from English?
I could.
;p
Yeah. I believe it says "Please wait after pooing"

> Integrating NGEN in your application’s installer might be a challenge; auto-NGEN addresses this challenge by performing NGEN automatically if runtime-generated profiling information deems fit. When your .NET 4.5 application runs, the runtime generates assembly usage logs which are examined by an automatic maintenance task that runs in the background when the system is idle, and generates native images for frequently used assemblies.
(This maintenance task might also choose to evict native images for assemblies that have not been used for a long time.)
:O :O
> Multi-core background JIT
Developers can now opt-in to an optimized JIT that uses otherwise unused processing time to perform multi-threaded JIT compilation of frequently used methods speculatively. The first time the application is launched, data is collected on frequently used methods, and on subsequent launches this data is used to guide the background JIT engine.
yea, I'm discovering this a little late
@JourneymanGeek That's a real sign... I've seen it -.-
16:52
I have this really strange issue.
I am using Bluestacks. My ISP provides a 1 Mbps connection. So I guess the download speed should only go upto about 128 KBps.

But in bluestacks, when I download apps from the app store. The speed shoots upto 5-10 MBps. And I still don't get how.
In the browser in bluestacks however, when I download files, the speed is normal. So why and how is this happening?
I got an issue with the all-in-one Windows 7 install disk. I removed the ei.cfg file, but it still forces Professional to install
Does anyone have the English Windows 7 x86 DVD? I need 5 files off of it
17:21
Er... what five files?
All the .CLG files under \sources
For example, install_Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL.clg
There should be more
One for Starter, one for HP, one for HB, one for Pro, and one for Ultimate
17:41
I think my CD is upstairs and I'm lazy and its night time. :3
Alright. Anyone else?
Yeah sorry about that. I searched a couple of places but couldn't find it. Plus it looks like you possibly need five people?
Don't know how trustworthy that is but its got everything you need! You can roll the dice and try it out.
Apparently, it didn't work... At least in the VM
I'll see if the Ultimate ISO I downloaded will work. Thanks though @Sanchit
@alvasrawuther the download speed may be cited in uncompressed throughput per second... if the data being sent is compressed at the transport layer (e.g. HTTP gzip compression) or at the application layer (e.g. LZMA2), you can get "download" speeds several times faster than your ISP's connection if the throughput measured by the application is given in uncompressed KB/s.
@CanadianLuke Yeah good luck. Here are more links of course google.com/…
17:51
I get that with Sony's online games... their launcher seems to download at about 10 MBps sometimes, yet my connection is only capable of a fraction of that
@Sanchit The Ultimate ISO, minus the ei.cfg file, works. Thanks :)

1 hour later…

ohh man
Supervisory Health Insurance Technician is a job title :-(

I feel sorry for them

I guess Supervisory Health Insurance Technicians belong in the Administrative Support Section, right? ;-)
@allquixotic seems natural
