@studiohack the one I'm working on is right now a desktop app, and it's just a port of Stack Exchange editor toolkit to C#.. will see about FF addons perhaps later? No idea.

Good evening, everyone.
OH YAY MOBILE SU :D
Also, just to make sure. Downvotes on answers are supposed to be used on incorrect answers that don't work, right?
@MarkSzymanski one of the many uses of downvotes, yes. Good evening.
would be nice of you to mention why you put in the downvote.
@Sathya: Alright, thanks. Just wanted to make sure since I sometimes downvotes answers when they don't work, and of course I accompany them with comments. But occasionally people get worked up over it.
@MarkSzymanski yeah, don't worry about people getting worked up. Happens. Flag if you run into a suspicious vote pattern, but mostly the StackExAIâ„¢ will take care of it
Yeah, one time I got a massive downvote flood put on me. Lost like 20 rep. Thankfully the system got it taken care of.

Q: WAMP suitable for web hosting?

tombull89I'm looking to run a small website at home. I've got the port forwarding all sorted and working and was looking to see if WAMP would be suitable as I was under the impression that it is only ideally suitable for small localised testing rather than used as a full webserver. If this is the case, ca...

one of my old questions, though...
@tombull89 want me to wipe it?
@tombull89: personally i'd say, just use a VM to do hosting

Hi

1 hour later…
12:10
hi guys have a funny :) problem care explaining ??
open windows calculator
press 4
then root symbol
then - symbol
then 2 then = symbol
basically [Sqrt(4)] - 2
== 0
eh
that is odd
right ?
why is that ? coming
@JourneymanGeek any idea why ?
floating point arithmetic is tricky
12:17
@Sathya i do not get it man 2-2 means zero ..
not some crap to the power 19

floating point arithmetic is tricky
this one gets it right metacalc.com
badly coded calculator ??
I am gonna open a new thread .. :)
@HackToHell That's actually something to the power of -19, in other words it's something like 0.000000000000000000000001 that it's giving as the answer, as @Sathya says, floating point is tricky...
@Mokubai but then how come it comes to 0.000000000000000000000001 .. 2.00000000000000000000000000000 - 2 must be 0.00000000000000000000 right ?
@HackToHell because sqrt of 4 == 2.0000000000000000000106
12:26
@Sathya i gave sqrt of 4 only !
In theory, yes, but for some reason the 2.000blah is being rounded to a sensible value, but 0.something is not...
the iterative methods used for calculating square roots can give tricky results due to way floating point arithmetic works on computers
ok ...
Most "proper" calculators have a "fixed precision" mode where you can specify the number of decimal points to show, but that sort of thing is not available in the Windows Calculator
so calculating the square root is tricky ..
12:35
@HackToHell floating point calculation always has problems on computers, it just seems that close to 0 the windows calculator does not take account of them...
@Mokubai just like how a single binary number stands for positive and negative ...
depending on how you interpret it, yes
In order to do sqrt(4) it presumably gets converted to a floating point number (with inaccuracies) and then the function is run, this gives a slightly inaccurate answer and then subtracting the 2 shows you the floating point and calculation errors.

afternoon all

aft @DMA
@Sathya how's things?
hot :( @DMA
it's 34-38 deg :(
ouch
can't abide that much heat :/
the heat is causing my laptop to get hotter and causing my room temp to up...
talk about a chain reaction
a heat-based negative feedback loop; fun times :/
or positive feedback loop, I forget
getting my first pepper on my pepper plants :D
16:17
@DMA57361 yay!
only ~1cm big atm, but there's several other flowers as well now, so should have quite a few soon
sounds good
do post some pics
there's a few of the not-so-healthy bits over on gardening.se
Hi all! :)
hi @Nyuszika7H
@DMA57361 indeed
16:20
guess it'll give me an excuse to work out how to send pics to twitter properly :P
:P
I'd just setup a posterous account, enable auto post to twitter
then on, just email to [email protected] :)
Anyone got ideas how to get Alt-nnnn keyboard shortcuts to work under Linux?
@Sathya f/e, maybe, else I'll just use dropbox or something
@Nyuszika7H seems like a good question to ask at you-know-where
@Sathya SU? ;)
16:28

Q: How to get Alt-nnnn keyboard shortcuts to work under Linux?

Nyuszika7HA few weeks ago, I moved from Windows to Linux, and one thing I'm missing is Altnnnn keyboard shortcuts to insert an em dash and other things. Is there any way to get them working under Linux? I'm using Arch Linux, if that matters.

Good morning, everyone.
morning
Hi, @Nyuszika7H. How are you?
16:55
Hi @Mark, I'm fine, and you? :)
I'm doing great, thanks.

@Sathya - the link seems to be broken? and I'm willing to work with desktop or addons, either one works...
