evening
night
one of those things I find confusing - I'm running hostapd with my ethernet device and wifi dongle bridged. The MAC address that my router reports is for the wifi dongle (which isn't connected to the network at all - outside acting as an AP for other clients), not the ethernet adaptor
downloaded the iso from MS but nooo ofcourse it's not vmware bootable
@JourneymanGeek because the bridge synced both MAC's?

Can anyone think of a reason why plugging in a switch would cause none of my ethernet connections to work? My WiFi works fine.
The switch was working perfectly fine and then it just stopped working.
Anonymous
did you try switching the switch
No, unfortunately everythings closed here right now (11:30 PM)
And it's just suddently stopped working. :( I tried switching the cable connecting the modem to the switch (the modem is aN AIO switch/router hybrid)
Anonymous
04:37
hmm
Anonymous
well i guess you turned it on and off
Anonymous
why would you punish yourself fixing equipment if you can just apply warranty?
@PatoSáinz Well, I don't really \know\ if the switch is defective.
Anonymous
oh
All I know is when I connect it to the modem, all the ethernet ports on the router and switch stop working
I get "default gateway cannot be reached" suddently.
For all ports, including the one on the router.
05:08
@PatoSáinz excuse me? just because I don't like pop music doesn't mean I "lack music culture". I just have a different taste in music than you.

@VaughanHilts: managed or unmanaged switch?
and does the switch do DHCP as well?
Looks like it's unmanagd
I suppose not then
hmm
It's a switch though, so it shouldn't do DHCP
I get assigned an 169.xx when the switch is connected on all ports
I read up online it's like the "default" address or something
05:40
yeah
thats a link local address, that means that something is getting messed up
Yeah
A switch just goes from one LAN port on the router, to the switch, right?
And that hsould be it.
yup
I tend to use routers as switches tho ;p
very ghetto network
Any idea what this guy is asking and if you guys have a similar question?
Yeah, I dunno then. It's pretty hard to fuck up a switch configuration.
I'm starting to think the switch is shot.
06:08
I wonder if you could test the switch with static IPs
with/without being connected to the main network
@Seth: he's trying to pxeboot
What is the advantage of a static IP?
it rules out DHCP issues, and with two computers you can do a basic connectivity test
You're stripping down the 'network', as such, to its bare essentials, so there's less stuff to break.

@Boris_yo right after 'restore previous session', which should have restored the last window you closed

@JourneymanGeek If they whitelist a router, you can just connect anything downstream of the router with no issue, no?

Q: How to download torrent files from internet?

Rajesh K SinghHow to download torrent files from internet? I'm looking to download books. When i try to download books the site sends message to accept and install ".exe" files which are not the files i want to download. Kindly guide.

Your site?
Since it is DOGgy ?
@Hennes: I would say it does smell funny when you're looking for torrents and find hairballs exe files.
Those are just self extracting zips. And the password to decrypt them is your social security code. :)
@JourneymanGeek Things that smell funny are good, I mean, for a dog's point of view, right?
@JourneymanGeek When you try to download software from Download.com and get .EXE you get mad.

1. How hard is the concept of document and domain?
2. Why in the world is he seperating doc and dom?

@JourneymanGeek Was that a reference to one of the episodes in IT Crowd?

1 hour later…
21:45
@Boris_yo 4 rows with 2 cells each but you have nth-child(3) and nth-child(4) rules? That seems weird
@OliverSalzburg I also have nth-child(2) otherwise how would I target rows below 1st?
Probably with an nth-child selector, but on the table
nth-child selects the nth child, not the nth match
@OliverSalzburg What difference would it make? Table or TR?
@Boris_yo The row is a child of the table
@OliverSalzburg Row which is TR?
21:49
@Boris_yo Yes
@OliverSalzburg And what is TD then? Child of TR but sub-child of TABLE?
It's sometimes easier to use a sibling selector to target a specific instance
@OliverSalzburg Like tr:nth-child(4) + td?
Like tr + tr + tr should select the third row
@Boris_yo No
@OliverSalzburg This is same as tr:nth-child(3)
21:52
@Boris_yo Still no
There's a difference between a child and a sibling ;D
@OliverSalzburg But it works.
My question is how come italics and red color is applied to 4th row, 2nd cell but not 4th row, 1st cell.
The lower the code is, the higher priority it has. So why not override background of 1st cell?
tr:nth-child(4) td:first-child {background: #afe}
tr:nth-child(4) td {color: red; font-style: italic; background: #bdd;}
Above does not override last row with background #bdd
But, if I replace td:first-child with "td" - it works. Hmm
But why? Last line is more specific plus it supposed to override former line. All I did was remove pseudo-class.
22:07
Maybe because the first selector is more specific, so the style isn't overridden
You can always mark it !important :P
Why even set a background color on the first cell if you're going to override it later on anyway?
22:21
@OliverSalzburg !important is like comment out? I think it gives less priority to CSS line.
...why am I even trying?
Also CSS line where selector has pseudo-class seems to have higher priority than CSS line after it.
@OliverSalzburg Because that's how I learn CSS.
@OliverSalzburg you are such a nice guy...
Bob
Bob
@OliverSalzburg Heh, I can just see the facepalm.
