It is sad that 3dfx brand ceased to exist. Their latest Voodoo 5 6000 outperformed Nvidia GeForce 2 Ultra and could compete with GeForce 3. Some lucky benchmarkers were able to get their hands in pre-release units.

GPU space must be seriously competitive...
I remember Glide API and OpenGL but wonder why DirectX is better.

Hi bot.
Anyone know how to repair a TrueCrypt locked Windows install?
I have the password, but I can't boot my Windows install disk and unlock the disk at the same time.
The root issue is that I can't use a keyboard and mouse after Windows boots.
@NickMeharry How come?
I can unlock the disk and navigate the BIOS just fine, but after Windows starts (even in safe mode) I get no response from either keyboard or mouse.
Lights are on, but nobody's home.
01:19
@NickMeharry: USB or PS/2? has it ever worked?
USB. No PS/2 ports on this box.
And yes, it was working the other day.
What I think happened was that I took Windows out of "test mode".
Can't remember exactly why I turned that on, but I had a reason at some point.
Anyways, turned that off the other night, and now I can't use my computer.
My current attempt is to boot a Windows recovery USB and repair my install, but it doesn't see the drive.
@JourneymanGeek 2 Aren't AMDs x86?
@JourneymanGeek So... Only strongest survive?
well shit, I need to bypass this cyberoam.com/downloads/Techsheet/…
hopfully it allows ssh ^_^
@Boris_yo: they're one of the two
@NickMeharry: oh, so you can't use unsigned drivers?
tried booting into safe mode?
01:35
Yeah, like I said, it doesn't work even in safe mode.
I didn't think I was using unsigned drivers anymore.
From more reading, I guess I need my TrueCrypt install image.
err, rescue disk to decrypt the drive.
hmm
if you don't have it, there's a copy inside your system....
and you might be able to access the encrypted image from truecrypt on linux
I was actually working on a similar question but truecrypt won't do FDE if I don't create a recovery disk, and I can't cause its in a VM :)
I was actually about to download Ubuntu to pull my rescue disk from my secondary HD.
But I'm going to try the other thing first.
That might save me a bunch of trouble.
assuming the issue is signed vs unsigned drivers
I'm guessing here
unrelatedly

I've been trying to document my problems with my internet connection by hooking directly into my modem via ethernet and pinging google.com at 30 sec intervals for a few hours to show that connection drops. I've done this over a few hours and looking at the log I've noticed a weird pattern. Once the timeouts started occurring they've been occurring in a pattern of sorts. Timeouts occur almost exactly every 3.5 mins and last for 3 mins.
The pattern is even more bizarre and specific, though. The response time on the first ping in the sequence of timed-out attempts is always within 1 sec of 180
Does this say something about what the source of the problem is?
There were 9 timeouts recorded that followed this pattern
ping timeouts happen all the time
it doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong
but it coincides with lack of internet
connection
I got the idea to log it this way from this question: superuser.com/questions/38666/…
there definitely is a problem with my internet connection, i'm just trying to get more information on the issue since my ISP's technicians are useless in fixing it
have the 4th tech in 4 weeks coming out friday
03:56
So what brought this on? What behavior did you notice when you said "I'm losing my connection"?
I noticed that every internet connected device could no longer load web pages, download e-mails, use web requiring apps, or any other internet related task i could think of
not sure what brought it on, it happened while i was out of town
And it just starts up again on its own?
that sounds like its probably your ISP
or a bad modem
it does after exactly 3.5 mins (according to the ping log)
yea, this is the second modem (both from my ISP)
i'm pretty positive it's the ISP
what ISP? what type of service is it?
and what OS are you running?
Comcast High-Speed Cable Internet
Mac OS X 10.7.5
but the same issue occurs on a windows machine running some iteration of Windows 7
and two iPads (one of them a mini) on iOS 10.6
the Mac is the one i've tested hard-wired into the modem, though
04:00
so unless you somehow had all your tech go bad on you its probably the isp ;)
otherwise i was noticing my router get disconnected in the same manner
haha i know
any speculations on what it could be on the ISP's end, though?
because they seem unable to figure it out...so at this point i'm trying to do their work for them
especially since Comcast has a monopoly in my area so i don't really have another option
a better view would be to run tcpdump while your running your ping, and see what the traffic looks like
hmmm, ok, not all that familiar with that...just downloaded it
or you could use wireshark - the GUI equivalent
might be easier
yea, that is probably more my speed...i'll check it out, thanks for the tip
any other suggestions while i have you here?
04:12
it's one of those issues that could really be anything .... i would look at the traffic and get more specific information about what happens when the internet stops
and also - write a script that when the ping times out, launch a traceroute, and then you'll see where in the network the timeout happens
ok, thanks for the tips
04:41
@tdk2fe: I'd also give pathping a shot on windows, since it might tell you where you're pinging out on the route
its like traceroute and ping together.

@allquixotic Ah.
Hello my name is Prince Ahmesh Akbar and I am from the great City of Lagos...
I'd love to see a 411 style email from iniago montoya

Someone should try baiting the bot and post it to 419eater ;)
@JourneymanGeek I'd love to see a 411 style email from Tammy Kluga
"I'm a master swordsman whose father was killed by a six fingered man, I am looking for a trustworthy person to keep some funds with while I hunt down, and kill said man, after saying to him... "My name is iniago montoya, You killed my father..."

@allquixotic BTW, why is a self-signed certificate more snakeoil than signing it with a self-signed CA? Or were you talking about a trusted CA?
And, if so, why is a trusted CA better than a self-signed one which I manually trusted :D
"Trusted" is really a problematic term in this context :P
@Bob Yeah I also do that because I feel I am being watched and suddenly turning around to walk in another direction would make me look weird.
@allquixotic I think nigerians coded their own bot.
TIP: Right-clicking YouTube video brings up menu where option "Stats for nerds" is.

@JourneymanGeek Compile on a disk connected via USB: Sir, you have a lot of patience :)
@allquixotic I would flag that one as Unclear, OP is high...
@OliverSalzburg a total valid flag IMO... OP might actually be on drugs...
@Braiam Yeah, it was valid ;D
