@Bob github.com/Zirak/SO-ChatBot/commits/master some updated code that we need to merge (we = you if you get to it first; otherwise, me this evening U.S. EST time (GMT-5))
@allquixotic Nashorn is not a drop-in replacement, though it will be close. I believe rhino has more integration with non-JS stuff (i.e., DOM) than is planned for the nashorn release
@DarthAndroid headless pure Java browser using Nashorn for JS -- how hard? how much of the HTML stuff has to be done by hand or using something separate from Nashorn or the J2SE API in general?
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic I'm going to sleep about now, so you'll probably get there first.
@CanadianLuke unpins
@Bob kk
btw, that latest commit on SO-ChatBot upstream appears to fix eval
@allquixotic All of the "browser" stuff will be separate. Nashorn will not have a concept of html elements, attributes, etc. baked in. I believe I heard talk of a .js resource you could load to add basic support if you needed to manipulate that stuff
18:22
it might even fix it for our wonky PhantomJS based impl
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic Incidentally, I also don't currently have the server IP on me. That was saved on the other laptop I should be getting back soon, with any luck.
@Bob oh OK.
It will be closer to V8 than PhantomJS
Bob
Bob
I did nab the private keys, though.
@allquixotic It only fixes a break from two commits back, doesn't it?
@Bob oh. dunno. will check :/

> Most people who have used JavaScript before have done so by adding scripts to their HTML web pages. However, Rhino is an implementation of the core language only and doesn't contain objects or methods for manipulating HTML documents.

i don't have the server IP on me either because I didn't map it to anything in DNS so I'd have to ssh into the main box and look at my ips.txt file with a listing of all my IPs
@Braiam You're one sick puppy. A person that age can shag down to 6, and is the lower limit of a person of 12 years.

it seems to be repeating itself
@allquixotic You can rotate the Surface by mousewheeling over it

@allquixotic Heh, I think I have it in my disk image with the registry backup. But that's a little too much trouble when I should have my laptop within the week.
@terdon broke him... :(

18:26
Oh yea. WinPhone8 GDR3 will bring some amazing new features. Like... a rotation lock! And... the ability to close apps! Wow!
@Bob aha
GDR3??
Bob
Bob
@allquixotic Update.
@allquixotic It even kinda happens automatically when you have the cursor positioned under the Accessories label. You'll hit the Surface 2 Pro and it'll rotate :D
I kinda thought that was intended at first ;P

@allquixotic Nokia is currently rolling out GDR2 as Lumia Amber, due to be out on all devices and regions by the end of September.

@Braiam not my fault, I just gave him √-1
Bob
Bob
I think GDR3 was planned for November, at least on Microsoft's side. Not sure about phone manufacturers.
@Bob I don't even know what GDR stands for -_-
Bob
Bob
MS is basically patching in what should be very basic features -_-
@allquixotic General Distribution Release
@Bob Not directly, but it was released at the same time as all the java DOM APIs (org.w3c.dom.* classes) and well-integrated with them.
Bob
Bob
18:29
> These are GDR (General Distribution Release) updates. GDR updates can be found on Windows Update site so as to be available to a wider audience. Another key item is GDRs are tested to a greater degree than LDRs (Limited Distribution Release). LDR, also known as hotfixes or QFEs, are created when a hardware, BIOS or a software issue is identified that needs a fix in a specific and small subset of customer environments.
What.
I haven't heard of half of those initialisms -_-
... GDR3 will be released on Lumia as "Lumia Bittersweet"
Fitting name.
From the Nashorn project page:
> Nashorn will not include support for DOM/CSS or any related libraries (e.g., jQuery, Prototype, or Dojo).
Bob
Bob
@DarthAndroid In our case, I think HtmlUnit takes care of the DOM itself.
Maybe.
Windows Phone is weird.
I was trying to download a text suggestions file for UK English yesterday.
It ended up being a full system update, requiring a restart and taking about 10 mins to "copy user files"
for spelling suggestions.
wat.
@Bob Env.js is also supposed to provide good support. I'd be interested to know how it goes.
Bob
Bob
Hm. Ignore what I said about HtmlUnit :P
I have no idea how it works, and I'm not familiar enough with Java to figure it out quickly.
@Bob it'll be a pretty big task to get HtmlUnit to just drop into supporting Nashorn when it's targeting Rhino, though, I think
even for someone who knows a lot about Java and JS
19:00
wow
Oh, sweet! I got a Careers invitation!
Now I'm up to 28 :P
@OliverSalzburg when do you get that?
19:17
@Oliver I have one of those... without invitation :P
@OliverSalzburg seriously? You should have gotten one ages ago, I did long long before I hit 10k.
@terdon Those are invitations to give out
I have 28 by now
Ah, OK :)

20:08
Thank god. I thought that bot will again remind me of asking questions
@Bibhas it only welcomes you the first time it sees you... the bot has a long memory; it uses HTML5 storage to keep track of users it has previously met, even after a restart of the bot :)
@allquixotic good. It should have it. I just wasn't sure
@Bibhas Sounds plausible

I'm getting my StackExchange browser extensions ready to work without the Kango Framework now. Instead I'm moving to more custom metadata files and an ant build file. Crazy stuff
Took the concept from github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter
Hopefully the results will work right :P
21:56
@OliverSalzburg That build script just looks messy.
well, messy is perhaps the wrong word
painful. What all is it doing, collecting resources, filtering them, and then packing them together in a chrome extension?
@DarthAndroid It's building various types of browser extensions from the same source
e.g., building a plugin for chrome, firefox, etc.?
Right
I did that with Kango so far, but it includes a lot of stuff in the final extension which I don't want
And I don't have enough control over the metadata
22:12
Firefox extensions are so complicated :P
Or the part that I want to know isn't documented where I'm looking :P
@OliverSalzburg cool
The Chrome extension seems to work fine, but I'll have to look into Firefox tomorrow. Was hoping to finish it up tonight :\

Q: What should I name my chat bot? And updates to greeting message

allquixoticIf you don't know what this is all about, click here to read a question about Root Access chat bots... One of the problems I'm frequently having with my bot, John Cavil, is that he frequently confuses users when he welcomes them: people think he's a real person rather than a bot. I need to give ...

Zen!
22:29
@allquixotic "Bloodless Feind" , "drooling John" , "Chaterly Boterly" , "Javal Scripman" "Call me !!"
"Da John Bot" , "Type !! Help" , "Mr. Bot", "SuperBotUser" , "JustaPutz", "RTFMbot"
I like SuperBotUser.
(Super blunt user)
22:49
"0110010100" , "Arty Intel" , "Paper Man" , "Error Code" , "Random Access" , "Killer Drone"
> though I'd still like to keep "Cavil" or "John Cavil" in the name somewhat
from my meta Q
"Cavil_Bot"? "Bot_Cavil"? I mean... how do you decide these things?
@allquixotic Just change it and use "search and replace" ?
AllBottoxic
@allquixotic What is the significance of the human avitar? Like i dont know who that is, looks like some actor? Why is the HELP not in the profile?
loBOTomy ;-0
22:57
lol
Esp. it it greets with "Lo."
@Psycogeek: its john cavil ;p
Help could be in the profile as a single sentance to the use of "type !! before commands to address bot" and !!help !!say !!tell Etc all in one glob in his profile.
@Psycogeek I never questioned why floppy disks were called floppy. Because they have flop sound?
@JourneymanGeek So this is like THE John Cavil? has no significant meaning.
Ohh battlestar galactica. I watched the whole series for sci-fi, never liked a moment of it . (duhh then why am i still watching)
23:04
@Psycogeek Because you are looking for a twist that would compensate for your lost time watching all previous episodes. You invested time and you don't want to leave empty handed.
Because they tended to be 'floppy'. Soft. Like paper.
@Boris_yo I always thought it more Gronky sounding. I got a new CD burner, and IT sounds like a floppy. Thats what i get for buying it on sale, its rather slow compared too.
@Hennes I guess 3.5" floppies are not that floppy compared to 5" floppies.
nod
5.25 inch was the same as the normal 8 inch floppies
Flexible disks in protective sheats.
@Hennes They were tape disks?
23:07
gronk chugga chugga gronk gronk.
@Hennes What? 8" floppies? Oh-shi!
@Psycogeek I knew you coined it because I couldn't find translation for it.
!!urban gronk
@Psycogeek Gronk a total loser, moron and idiot who always says "ill just" before he/she does anything
wrong one john "The sounds that Miss Piggy makes when Kermit mounts her"
The original 1.2MB floppies. (which is why the 3.25 inches went from 160 to 180, 340/360, 720 and then that weird 1.2MB rather than the doubling to 1.44MB)
Kermit just has to look once at miss Piggy and say this:
23:10
ohh my
well then. lesson: never be surprised at what's posted in chat.
@MaxRunFast Welcome to Root Access chat for Super Users! Please don't ask if you can ask or if anyone's around; just ask your question, and if anyone's free and interested they'll help.
You know who likes pork: The swedish chef.
I guess I listen to much to bofh. I mean to Server Fault
@JohnCavil How stupid to call someone who says "I will just" before he does anything. First know that person and then say BS about him. Don't be stereotypical idiot. Be realistic.
@Hennes: miss piggy is cheating on kermit?
23:24
@Hennes uhh this picture isnt any less weird, uhh, because either this is a really good photoshop job, or you have seaysamee street charachters in your home.
I have 3 in my house. These two and the pianist bear (which is my cats toy)
I once bought a set of 12 because someone was looking for a few to complete their set (for a birthday)
Kermit got given to a small niece (3 yo)
No idea what I did with the others. I just know I got 3 left.
@Hennes so is the swedish chef holding a recipie card for Sweet & Sour piggy?
Heh.
It is actually a 10% off card for the efteling
AH (a supermarket) give you points, and you could use them to collect the set
Speaking about food: "Waldorf and Statler salad."
@Hennes is that the Dell ultrasharp 2407?
Almost. It is a Dell 2407 WFP-HC
Not sure if the HC changes anything
and an A501 soundbar
23:32
with the 27 ways to connect shit on the back
Yup.
Sadly no display port
I got one with the power board finished in it. All apart on the floor. I was calculating the risk of replacing the board $100 from china, with the extra costs of Wall power by spending the $100 on a new monitor, that would (in years and years) save the same money.
If you need any parts :-) or want to try and fix a second one.
it used ~50Watts , this one more like ~25w. thats about 219KW of savings per year if it was ever on 24/7. For our rediculous power costs here, that will save me ~$60 a year.
for normal use say 8hr a day , ~$20 a year, would take ~8 years to . . . oh crap, these thing wont last 8 years anymore :-)
I love the 2407. It has a much better display than the cheap *half the price) IIyama E2606 next to it.
And more inputs
And sane audio options
@Hennes and real color, thanks to a CCFT that has some color to begin with.
The only things it lacks are:
1) A proper functioning USB hub (several devices do not work if I plug it in the monitor)
2) DP input (I do nto caqre for HDMI)
3) A button to switch between input without using manues or without using several presses
Aye.
23:47
I could tell though that my backlight was aging, it was getting more "warm" which looked nice, but indicated that it might be weaker .
If I open mspaint.exe and fill a full screen canvas with a colour, then that look fine on the Dell, on the cheap IIyama I see colour differences
Well, my choice would be clear; try to repair it
@Hennes I get the usb hub working fine, but the Card Reader slots did not last long, because they did not handle the new Size Changes to the cards , like when SD went to >4g SDHC.
Well drat. I forgot about the card reader
Hey, I'm trying to run a personal webserver everything is setup, but i have no idea how to expose it to my public ip.
using ubuntu server
@Hennes As far as inputs, i am now convinced that people who make monitors cant make interfaces :-) its getting better. I think some of them now talk to the computer. But as of yet i have not put the software on to do that. Menu configuring the monitor via a computer GUI.
23:54
@Sidar What do you means with 'To my public IP'?
I want to expose it to the public
Do you already have a real IP and do you still need to bind the webserver to that?
Or do you use NAT and do you need to port forward ?
so when Im not at home I can access it on computers externally
Normally you tell the web server to listen to aport. E.g. to 127.1, port 80
I need to portfoward, but I have no idea which port
23:55
(And then it is only reachable via local host)
ah
Which port did you configure on the webserver (default is 80)
for example this works
but I have no clue what that page means
I've set the port to 8888 in openssh
Hmm, I can not reach that link
Ah, duh. OK
it should say : SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_6.1p1 Debian-4
?
23:57
If I tried in telnet or SHS, it would. Ina web browser it errored
ah ok
so i guess thats not it
Then you probably have the public IP 81.205.166.142
but do I configure it in sshd_config?
uhm. SSH is not HTTP
yeah, im kinda lost here.
23:58
So am I.
So what steps do i take now?
@Psycogeek more amusingly, they pretty much all have the same control interfaces
Did you want to expose the webserver to SSH login so that people can log into it and work on it, or did you want to display the web pages to the public
it's a portfolio website
so as a webpage
