@Sammy Well, on the official web site they do not talk about pen drives. And as it seems, it does not work from a DVD.
@Overflowh I actually have HDAT2 right here on my desk. I burned it to a Philips DVD-RW. I know it works.
@Overflowh What software did you use to burn it to DVD? And what kind of DVD? You could try a different brand.
@Sammy Oh.. so it hates me..
@Sammy I used a Verbatim DVD+RW disk, and Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 to burn it (at 2.4x speed, the lowest)
@Overflowh Hmm... shampooing a DVD... I don't know... doesn't sound right to me.
@Overflowh Just kidding! ;) But it's been many years since I have used Ashampoo software.
@Sammy It's a joke? xD However, I used shampoed all my DVDs since.. years! They always worked :P But if you have a better sorftware I will try it. :)
@Overflowh For a Windows user, I highly recommend using ImgBurn for burning image files. It's a free software.
18:09
@Sammy I use only Burning Studio 6, and older version. And I use it because it's free and never gave me problems :P
@Overflowh You can get ImgBurn for free. It's a freeware.
@Sammy Well.. I used ImgBurn for some years, along with ashampoo. ImgBurn for all ISO-concern things, and ashampoo for all the rest. But sometimes ImgBurn failed..
@Overflowh OK. Well, I would be lying if I told you I never had a problem with ImgBurn. I did have problems with it. But that was a long time ago. I have not had any problems with it for several years now.
@Sammy Alright, I will give it another try :)
@Overflowh After all, ImgBurn is a free software. I'm not saying free is bad software. It's just that we have to appreciate that someone is offering this software to us for free.
@Overflowh If everything else fails, try ImgBurn again.
@Overflowh Direct download link for 2.5.8.0: download.imgburn.com/SetupImgBurn_2.5.8.0.exe
18:17
@Sammy Also Linux Kernel, Apache, PostgreeSQL and so on are free software :) free is not bad, there are problems with free just like with anything else.
@Sammy Thanks :) just downloaded
Well, it's time to go..
@Sammy Thank you very very much. I will try SRCD tomorrow (and I will burn with ImgBurn ;)); now it's quite late here. Thank you again for your help, your time and your kindness. :) We will see soon, and I will tell you if SRCD worked.
Good night at all!

@AshutoshDave Welcome to Root Access chat for Super Users! Please don't ask if you can ask or if anyone's around; just ask your question, and if anyone's free and interested they'll help.
I have a four and a half year old HP Pavillion dv4 laptop. Today, I saw a thin 1px red horizontal line on the near top of my laptop screen. The line sometime changes to light blue. I tried connecting an external monitor and found that the problem is with the hardware. After a while display started to flicker a bit.
The graphics works fine and drivers are updated too. I know that this is a problem with the display(hardware).

I am thinking of getting rid of the display as I don't think that taking my laptop to HP support would be of any help. So is it possible to connect an external display
@AshutoshDave It sounds to me like you already have an external monitor. Do you still have to buy a new one?
@AshutoshDave if both the internal screen and the external monitor show a problem, mabey you just need to re-improve the cooling on the grafics chip in there?
In 4 years many of the thermal compounds are not doing what they should be doing. That is why i still like the Arctic silver paste stuff, it might not be the best, but it has lasted Time in all applications of it. (if it isnt a china clone)
@AshutoshDave The line you see, is it 1280 px wide? It goes from end to end on top of the screen? If the rest of the screen works I wouldn't mind having a red line on top of the screen if it's only 1 pixel high (i.e. 1x1280 px).
@AshutoshDave How are you planning to remove the screen? Are you saying you want to only remove the display panel from the housing and let the lid stay on? Or remove the whole thing from the hinges? While at it, and you have the know-how why not get a compatible replacement display panel and put it in there? That may not be as easy as just plugging in an external monitor but it's definitely a better solution.
@AshutoshDave Also, since this is a laptop computer. How are you planning to transport it if you have an external monitor connected to it? Are you just going to drag it all with you?
19:22
@AshutoshDave This is an old laptop, so I wouldn't count on having it repair on warranty. After 4 years most warranties would be expired, even the extended warranties. But you can still call HP and see if they will take it in for repair. If it's not covered by warranty you will have to pay for the repair. But if they have spare parts for it I'm sure they can take it in for service.
@sammy hey what good does it do in connection between computers to "register this computer in the DNS" if the computer is all talking by numbers anways
@Sammy No but I tried with an old external monitor of my desktop.
@AshutoshDave Yes, you should be able to use an external monitor even after you remove the display panel.
@AshutoshDave Because the graphics are not produced by the display panel. So that should not be an issue.
@Psycogeek External monitor has no problem. Its just the internal screen.
@AshutoshDave I think with just the LCD pannel removed , until you switch off the graphics going to that display, it will keep pumping out video to it. With all them portable units i can pull the whole connection to the display pannel and plug it right back in, it is still going. there is no handshakes and recognition stuff between things that are locked down with no intended removal.
19:25
@Psycogeek Unless it's an Apple product of course. ;) Can't touch this!
So i would not expect it to say "hey it aint there anymore" and quit sending out data to it.
@AshutoshDave Did you mean NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS?
@AshutoshDave and what was the res of this external monitor? What was the connection type?
@Sammy Yes the line is 1280 px wide. The line is not annoying but the flickering screen is! Also if the flickering increases or multiple lines show up I will have to do something. So I am planning to remove the screen i.e. only the display panel from the lid. If I can remove the whole thing from hinges it would be great. I think getting a replacement would be very hard and expensive! And my laptop stays on my desk all the time so there is no question of transportation!
@AshutoshDave that is another clue to a possible overheat situation.
of the GPU chip or might be more likly the ram the gpu is using.
19:29
@Psycogeek No there is no overheating problem. Its just the display. My GPU and RAM works perfectly fine.
the ram for the video buffer, which even if there isnt much going on the video buffer has to keep doing the 60frames per second refresh thing of the 2d aspect of the screen.
@AshutoshDave so you can do a furmark and a memtest86 on it and it doesnt bork?
@Psycogeek The resolution of external monitor I use was low around 1048x800. It was an old CRT monitor. Connected using the VGA cable that came with monitor.
@Psycogeek Yes.
@AshutoshDave Does the HP also have a digital output for the external monitor?
@Psycogeek Do you mean HDMI?
@AshutoshDave close enough , thats digital.
19:33
@Psycogeek Yes! I do have an HDMI port and a VGA (Dsub 15-pin) port.
@AshutoshDave If this is related to overheating problems then you can definitely open it up and look for signs of overheating, and apply some new thermal grease. A complete refurbishing would be the best thing to do on an old laptop like this. Just look things over, blow out all the dust, re-seat memory modules, apply new thermal grease, etc.
@Sammy No. I don't have any overheating problem.
VGA provides digital output. Isn't it?
@AshutoshDave No. VGA is only analog signal. For digital signal you have to have DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort.
@Psycogeek "The Supreme Court this year ruled in favor of foreign/domestic corporations pouring as much money into politicians/ballots/amendments etcetera to GET what they want. Every year our Constitutional rights get chipped away..." - Are you serious?
@AshutoshDave vga is a "component" analog RGB . it is very well done analog. many of the (even) newer monitors will support it as a backup, but digital is still digital , pixels is pixels 1-1 native thing.
19:38
@Psycogeek Yes, VGA is good. But it's not digital! Still!
@Sammy Okay. So how the laptop's display is connected? Is it digital?
@Sammy You mean to say it's analog?
@AshutoshDave Yes. The display panel of a laptop is connected digitally. On a modern laptop anyway... and a HP Pavilion DV4 is modern enough.
@Psycogeek So if I want to connect an external monitor, I must connect it digitally via HDMI. Is there any other way to connect digitally?
@Boris_yo If i remember right bush said something along the lines of the constitution being "that damn piece of paper" :-)
19:41
@AshutoshDave DVI?
@Boris_yo What I meant was, you need digital output for the really high resolutions and best possible picture quality.
@Psycogeek What happens if this piece of paper is burned accidentally?
@AshutoshDave it is possible to HDMI to DVI adapt, but you cannot be sure that would work, or work right. In the situation of a laptop with a HDMI output, it might be wise to have a monitor that will work with that direct. They make them with all 3
@Boris_yo Not sure!
@AshutoshDave Many people shove the HDMI into a standard HD television, making sure they got a full high res HD one not a 720. IMO i have seen issues with some of ANY of the HDMI vrses the DVI, because a tv is a tv, and there can be overscan, and underscan and all. But there are a lot of people happy with that arrangement.
19:45
@Psycogeek Okay. One more thing I want to know is that is it possible to connect HD monitor? My screen resolution is 1280x800
@AshutoshDave No, not necessarily. Connecting your external monitor digitally is not a must. But if you have digital output on your laptop, and a digital input on your monitor then this is the best option. This way you can have the highest possible resolution and picture quality. But you can still use analog connection, if digital connectivity is not an option. But don't count on HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 and picture quality.
@Psycogeek I heard that Chinese HDMI adapters can cause low picture quality... It's not about them being made in China, is it? It's a matter of bad units.
@Boris_yo It's because they are made by Jackie Chan.
I find it is at least "harder" to be 100% 1-1 pixels native with hdmi connecting. both the graphics cards can act like they think a tv is there, and the tv can think its a broadcast signal. I hate interpolations. So i would test it a lot , and take it back to the store if it didnt do what i wanted.
@Sammy Okay. So I can easily get my current resolution of 1280x800 on any external monitor without any problem if connected via HDMI?
19:47
Lets make it edit 51 to fix on of the "feilds." ;-)
@Psycogeek How to find if a monitor is 1-1 pixels native with HDMI?
@Sammy And that worries me because Jackie Chan's movies started going downhill since 2000.
@AshutoshDave Most of the tvs will pull off many resolutions. most of the monitors you can use a lesser resolution. Chances are good that you can go full 1920x1080, checking the Graphic chip specs would show the chip can do it. that doesnt guarentee that the motherboard is set up that way.
@Psycogeek So I must get a monitor with lesser resolution? I mean it depends entirely on my GPU. If my GPU supports full 1920x1080 I can get a full HD monitor.
@AshutoshDave That i dont know, I have just seen interpolations on both sides. and it still looked damn good. i just could not confirm that i managed to Set it to an actual 1-1
19:51
@Psycogeek Did you watch V For Vendetta?
@AshutoshDave You need to check two things to be sure. 1: Can I output 1280x800 from the laptop? 2: Does my external monitor support 1280x800 resolution?
@AshutoshDave Do you have the Intel or AMD model?
@Sammy Intel.
@AshutoshDave many of the laptops will output full HD res (not the super duper 2400kind) out of the external digital connection. Even when the built in screen is lower. 4 years ago though, i would want to do a User search on the web to get anyone who had done it.
@Boris_yo V mouse eating aliens?
@Psycogeek Okay. Actually I don't want full HD res. I just want a minimum resolution of 1280x800. But I guess if I am buying a new monitor, I might try for HD.
@AshutoshDave Ok well analog vga was "better" at interpolating to lower reses, but that is because it is already blendy. I have done 1200 x?? on a 1920x1080 LCD and it was ok.
19:58
@Psycogeek Okay. I got it. Thanks for helping!
@AshutoshDave If you have the Intel model and your GPU is NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS then the maximal possible resolution is 2048 x 1536 on analog, and 2560 x 1600 on digital.
@AshutoshDave This will depend a little bit on the configuration done by the manufacturer.
@NicolasBarbulesco Welcome to Root Access chat for Super Users! Please don't ask if you can ask or if anyone's around; just ask your question, and if anyone's free and interested they'll help.
Hello people
@Psycogeek Too much of Star Trek for you...
Is there some kind of admin around ?
20:00
@AshutoshDave Full specs on GeForce 9200M GS: gpuzoo.com/GPU-NVIDIA/GeForce_9200M_GS.html
@AshutoshDave Let me re-iterate, Interpolating on a LCD looked fine for a game, once you get into the game. But reading small text might drive a person crasy. Cause pixels is pixels , on a LCD.
@AshutoshDave You laptop screen is probably connected via a cable like this: laptopparts101.com/lcd-screen-video-cable That uses (or used to use?) its own format. It is neither VGA, nor DVI, nor HDMI, nor displayport
I have edited a tag, 10 days ago. Only the big part of the edit is saved. The small part of the edit goes into a black hole.
The tag is superuser.com/tags/images/info
@AshutoshDave Did you know that your laptop has its own Wikipedia article? :) That's kind of cool. You'll find some of the specs there.
@Sammy Thanks for the info!
@Sammy Oh! Thanks! I didn't knew that.
20:08
@AshutoshDave I see you have a HDMI port on your laptop. I'm referring to the HP spcs posted here. If this is true then you should not have any problems getting Full HD resolution to an external monitor connected via HDMI cable.
@Boris_yo Ok ok, that was V , it was for victory, not vendetta, i dont think they had a vendetta against the aliens . 2005 imdb.com/title/tt0434409/?ref_=sr_1 Looks interesting.
@AshutoshDave I don't know the exact model number of your laptop. There are different configurations of Pavilion DV4. But as long as you have an HDMI port you will a) be able to connect to an external monitor digitally, and b) get a really high resolution, probably even the Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080.
@NicolasBarbulesco What do you need help with?
@Sammy Actually I have HP dv4 1133tx
@NicolasBarbulesco A diamond mod is here now see the penguine @slhck, you could ask him, or ask in the meta.
20:27
@AshutoshDave Then I'm sure you will have use of this HP Pavilion dv4 Entertainment PC Display Replacement Guide.
@AshutoshDave They explain how to remove the display panel, and also how to remove the lid.
@NicolasBarbulesco Not sure what the exact issue is. You can see the revision you made here: superuser.com/posts/257023/revisions – the other edit you suggested wasn't approved yet: superuser.com/review/suggested-edits/151678

I am going for a new win7 world record, I am running the automated troubleshooters, and so far 30 run, and not a single thing fixed :-)
21:31
Make sure you get those updates, before you put the computer on the web, because it needs 100 patches to keep all the hackers out. Ok how do i update? go on the web. but i thought you said. . .

A: Run iOS app on Raspberry Pi

tapped-outThe short answer: no, there is no possible way to run or emulate iOS apps on a Raspberry Pi. The long answer: there is no way to run/emulate iOS apps for the following reasons: iOS devices starting with the 3GS and the 3rd-gen iPod touch have used processors with the ARMv7 architecture. Discou...

this answer took far more effort than it was probably worth, but it was fun researching :D
The even longer answer is:
You might be able to compile qEmu and use that to emulate more modern hardware. That way it might boot someday before our sun goes Nova (Which is in 5 mil. years).
@Hennes iEmu is basically QEMU for the Samsung SL-whatever Apple used in the 2G/3G
Ah
No IQ emu yet ?
22:29
Booo!
22:47
@Boris_yo The president rides a Bear for real? Hmm that could explain why Obama was puffing all up before telling us what we need to do about syria. Oh great first it was the greed, then it was the fame, now its WWE leadership.
23:21
@Psycogeek You think Obama was scared of Putin when he rode Bear?
@Boris_yo Only if he rides up and takes obamas Nobel peace prize
Put 'em all on an island together and let them duke it out, the one that survives can swim back.
