the PSus might be an inch longer (from the back) or have wiring connects in different locations, and fans on the "bottom" vrses opposite the back and all, which can be conciderations in some cases
where did you find a case with the PSU on top :-) out of 47 cases , I only found like 3, most of them crap
the size of the case where the video card fits, and bumps into the hard drives or hard drive slots , comes into play often with the long video cards, and depending on how thier power connects (out the back or going up from the board)
wire length issues from PSU or even other cabling, when the tower is tall, and psu is on bottom
@Boris_yo We have big electronics store here, and 2 other places that sell cases. so i go to the store. even though what i finnaly purchaced was online, because the store mostly had PSU on bottom cases.
@Boris_yo almost all the PSUs are in the cases? in the DIY computer cases, they can be at the top , which was totally common back a few years. or on the bottom, which is way more common after 2011

on top the PSU with fan on bottom, would suck the heat out of the CPU heat pocket, making the whole area around the motherboad there cooler. but making the PSU hotter
On the bottom, the PSU is cooler, but heat from the PSU is ejected out the bottom of the case. With Convection heat flows (hot air rises), more of the PSU heat, just flows Back into the computer
PSU on bottom, the intake comes from the bottom, picking up dust when on the floor. between that and the heat flow issue, i prefer PSU on top.
@Gowtham open most of them are cooler in most areas for sure. but some people concider that reduces the "hall flow" the fan air flow direction and forced air
I need to copy all the files from a slightly corrupt HDD (NTFS, Windows and junk...) over the network using an Ubuntu live boot CD. Copy + paste using Nautilus over SMB is sucking. Anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to browse the files but I'm not above taking an image and 'restoring' it to a VM...
@Psycogeek My friend had a Shuttle PC and it overheated all the time. He got it first year of college. He kept it all the way until graduation, and I think he just used it without the case on the entire time.

@Hennes @Boris_yo All in One. There was an ISO that had the ei.cfg file removed, so it would ask what version of Windows to install; it also had both x86 and x64 versions of the OS available to install
@CanadianLuke I guess it's good when offered such an option? So you say if I have ISO file, all I need to do is remove ei.cfg in order to be offered which version of Windows to install?
i had thought at first that 64bit, meant ALL the stuff would be moved and processed and whatever with a 2x wide path. for the windows system it was mosly just memory addressing. and the cpus had the capability to do some stuff at 64bit back in pentII
I set up my win7 computer late in time, and tried to go all 64bit wherever possilble. on the same exact hardware, nothing is slower or faster by any noticable ammount. cept for the ability for the more memory, and more cache in memory.

the path thing that was tossed around endlessly, just didnt "change" that much. the paths that the CPU used to talk to ram, and the pci bus didnt change.

@Hennes I know with Windows there are certain drivers which only work in 32-bit mode, and no 64-bit drivers were ever released. You have to install 32-bit Windows if you want to use those drivers.
what a let down it was for me to find out that 64bit didnt mean 2X speed nothing, or even 1.2X speed. but i was happy to solve the limited memory thing.
saying there is a computational difference between 32bit and 64bit , when the processors have 16 to 128bit paths and have been doing intructions at 64bit and caches at 64or128 for 10 years :-) seems like a lucid hope. when a program was fully re-written for 64bit memory , and was "faster" by 10% was it because he changed his instruction set , or because he re-wrote a messy code ?

@Psycogeek using a different type is not possible when dealing with strongly typed .NET libraries that have a specific requirement for their types, and powershell itself isn't smart enough to automagically convert it
