@Boris_yo You'd be completely wrong then. :)
I quite often play games where I'm at a distinct disadvantage due to latency and I still come out on top. :)

Q: Why was my post removed?

IR1I'm curious why you removed my post on topic "File corruption after copying files in Windows 7 64 bit using two methods". This was my first time posting to superuser, so I understand I may have done something inappropriate. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you, Ilya

should be moved to Meta
03:10
@tapped-out: VTMed, and pinged the mod in question via meta ;p
"mod in question"? o.o
@tapped-out: the answer was deleted by a mod ;p
so I pinged him so he can answer ;p
ah okay

@jou the local department stores actually have a decent selection of pens
Also, 25 percent off today :p
Bob
Bob
05:09
huh.local stationery store, too
got two, $3 each
takes a short cartridge, it looks like
ooh
nice
any markings?
Bob
Bob
markings?
I mean, what kinda pen? ;p
Bob
Bob
they're smiggle branded
model, brand, stuff on the nib
Bob
Bob
05:21
weird, cause most of their stationery is for kids
Bob
Bob
ya
$7vpens at a newsagent
o0
thats kinda costy
oh god
the comments
Bob
Bob
?
says iridium on the nib
for the pen
ooh, all fancy like ;p
(they use that for fountain pen tips cause it dosen't wear out easily - none of my cheapies are labelled as such tho)
Bob
Bob
05:28
I can't see comments on mobile
"this pen is so good it workd really well unlike other pens when it stops working and then works when you first push the little ink bottle into the spike it takes a little while till works but it does work"
Bob
Bob
fountain pen network said fine nib
thats so what you'd expect a teenage girl to write
Bob
Bob
wat
well, it's smiggle
Bob
Bob
06:02
hrm
some places have watermans, some have quink
I forgot the difference :p
lol
you're having better luck than I did
hmm
Thats interesting
There was a double murder in singapore, and one of the victims was dragged behind a car for quite a distance
the main suspect is a cop
hmm
my pen should reach comgateway ~the 15th
Bob
Bob
06:18
o.o
Also, newsagents carry the most random selection
ooooh
I forgot this shopping centre existed
scratches head
I just walked in, up an escalator, and back out the same place I went in
wut
o0
sounds like antichamber!
Bob
Bob
no luck with the needles
06:34
darn
Bob
Bob
o.o
there's another smiggle shop here...
newsagent. $12 sheaffer. but it's a calligraphy nib
06:56
gawd. I barely remember those ;p
Bob
Bob
random Apple store outta nowhere
fark
so many black bottles
pick it up. it's paint.
lol
Lots of people buy paint
less people buy ink....
yanno
I just realised I really ought to pay a visit to the place I got my vpens from ;p
well the mall
its mostly textbooks and stuff like that, but there may be a few oldskool stationary shops left
Bob
Bob
urgh department stores inside shopping centres
there's an restaurant inside
Also, their lamy safaris are $50
they did have a sample one. feels nice.
07:18
The safari is the plastic varient of what I'm getting ;p
07:41
Still getting a Visionaire?
Bob
Bob
> The Goulet Pen Company give 5-10% off for purchases greater than 8? and if you type FPN into their discount field you will get another 5% off.
@MichaelFrank: asked my brother to help me order it
@Bob: oops
@JourneymanGeek Cool, I'm gonna order one in a week or so. :)
I need to go trawl/proper-lurk FPN more
@MichaelFrank: not sure if he'll remember ;p
Bob
Bob
@MichaelFrank I might sometime. Still, it's $47 (incl shipping).
Not much for a FP, but it is a lot for someone who just started :P
I wonder what ink Smiggle uses.
07:45
@Bob I like pens. :P
@MichaelFrank: I'm kinda amused about that ;p
I mean, this is a chatroom of computer geeks
....
I THINK they have a store in the same building daiso is in
Bob
Bob
> sold in popular stationery chain in Singapore called Smiggles
O.O
Singapore is like fountain pen central :P
Bob
Bob
07:48
They had some pink pens, too. I just grabbed two black ones.
lol
they have one at my usual mall
Bob
Bob
As for that comment you commented on...
I don't ever recall seeing it before
Bob
Bob
yea, Smiggle is very much the territory of kids and teenaged girls
scented erasers and all
Bob
Bob
07:49
Still, a $3 fountain pen is a fountain pen... except when it's not.
apparently its a dollar here
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek I discovered to many stores today.
@JourneymanGeek Oh ffs...
@Bob: this is why hobbies are good ;p
Bob
Bob
They come from Australia and they're still cheaper overseas?
!@#$$
"This is absolutely the cheapest fountain pen that I have bought – even cheaper than the Pilot V pen and the Hero pen. Each Smiggle fountain pen cost a princely sum of 1 dollar in my local currency (that is less than 1 US dollar). On the Smiggle website, it is listed as 1 Aussie dollar. I don’t think you will quibble with 1 dollar in whichever currency."
Bob
Bob
07:50
1 AUD = 1.14 SGD, too.
@JourneymanGeek Oh. Perhaps that was some time ago, then.
nope
jan this year
Bob
Bob
o.O
is kinda amused
and I probably need to go raid the place next time I'm in the area ;p
Bob
Bob
So, apparently smoother than a Preppy
I think its the feed
sounds remarkably similar to the one the vpen uses
Bob
Bob
07:55
Except it's a cartridge pen.
So, no wick there?
> The pen comes with a single standard international ink cartridge.
looks like a short one... but I dunno what the actual sizes are, so bleh
Maybe I'm just overestimating the size of the cartridges?
"I have an Indian pen made by Flair which has the same nib and feed. Its a nice writer. Its feed is unusual in that there is a felt insert between the nib and feed. Looking at your shot of the nib, it seems there is a similar small piece between the tipping material and the feed on the underside if the nib. "
lol
I have no clue what's standard ._.
Bob
Bob
perhaps eyedropper one of them
though I would need to find some way of stopping leaks
I'd test it with water first ;p
in case
Bob
Bob
hrm
I'm suddenly wondering if food dye would make good ink
@JourneymanGeek huh. so, it might accept all kinds of ink? :P
surprising number of Singaporeans and Australians on there.
lol
singaporeans have... interesting hobbies ;p
Bob
Bob
08:05
only problem I can see is that this'll probably wash right out with water
lol
yup
but a lot of ink does
hmm
refilling printers with food dye...
Bob
Bob
> Wait until you see my next project: refilling inkjet printer cartridges with food dye, or alternately Noodler's Legal Lapis. I've heard it works, and I think it'd be pretty cool to print with Noodler's bulletproof ink. :D
lol
I even know where to get food dye in bulk ;p
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek hm. synced reading? :P
08:11
Okay, here is the situation: Toshiba laptop is going to change hands soon. Current owner asks to delete all user information without deleting Windows.

This is first time I do something like this and need advice on how to do it properly.

Thanks.
Bob
Bob
PVC tape o.O
whatever happened to hot glue?
@Boris_yo nuke and reinstall
@Bob I think what you say assumes Windows reinstall?
Bob
Bob
@Boris_yo yes, reinstall windows
there is no way to guarantee all user information is removed without a full drive wipe
What if I don't want to thoroughly get rid of information? To be precise, the new owner is close relative of current owner so I don't think I need to do nuking.
Here is the message I am getting:
Bob
Bob
delete old user, create new one, delete old profile, hope there's nothing left anywhere else
08:17
Bob
Bob
try not pirating
@JourneymanGeek there is a little bit of felt sticking out
interesting.
@Bob User and profile are different things?
Bob
Bob
@Boris_yo deleting a user does not delete the profile folder unless you specifically tel lit to
looks like it's a wick to the end of the cartridge
not sure if it's normal
@Bob: not very, as far as I can tell
my platinum has a plastic half circle like a whisle poking out
Bob
Bob
want some photos? :P
@JourneymanGeek
ok, ink goes in now
oh, this si almost definitely a short international
I think the pen is long enough to accept a long one, though
yup, that bit of white in the first picture soaks up the ink
they apparently used to have 'mini' ones: fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/…
08:35
aww
Bob
Bob
wow. that's pretty nice
took abit to prime it, though
squeezed nk into the front section D:
@JourneymanGeek ?
yeah, it seems to be
I need to do a proper test of the platinum ;p
its dryer than either of those
Bob
Bob
also, much easie rto refill than the vpen
I mightjust chuck some printer ink in to see
lol
it is designed for that XD
entirely unlike the vpen
Bob
Bob
looks pretty easy to eyedropper, too
08:42
as long as there arn't any big holes in the barrel... ;p
Bob
Bob
ow.
it also hurts when you accidentally stab yourself
Bob
Bob
yea, I'm somewhat clumsy at tims
I might go there tomorrow and pick up a couple more
There was a urban legend (by which I mean I've never actually seen this guy) that the most notorious gangster in my high school stabbed someone in the ear with a caligraphy pen ;p
kinda like pringles, eh? ;p
Bob
Bob
today's results: cheap pen, knowledge of places that sell ink
@JourneymanGeek wut
incidentally, calligraphy pens everywhere
Bob
Bob
even calligraphy fountain pens
Bob
Bob
not many plain fountain pens :(
caligraphy pens are fountain pens ;p
they just come with a variety of changable nibs
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek no, felt tip
08:46
ooh
thats odd
the caligraphy pens I remember had like, half a dozen nibs, and used a cartridge
Bob
Bob
this ink is far more water-resistant than the vpen
Bob
Bob
I actually have one of the felt-tip calligraphy pens here somewhere
brb
@Mokubai: welcome to pen access ;p
08:54
ahh
my mom used to use something similar for jewellery design
Ah guys? This laptop I am working on has Vista installation integrated on hard drive. It was later upgraded to Windows 7. What I need to know is how to load Vista install and format everything to install it.
Something like recovery and install console.
Vista came originally on this laptop, of course with CD-KEY.
is the ink feed on the platinum
and the nibs
@Boris_yo: get a installer disk ? ;p
hmm
or recovery partition might still be vista
assuming you kept it/can access it
Bob
Bob
09:10
@JourneymanGeek dat focus :P
Bob
Bob
the platinum looks thinner
yeah
couldn't quite get it right
japanese medium for sure ;p
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek yea, O took mine with the phone camera further back but zoomed in
DSLR technique did not really work
stupd autofocus
it got close to good focus, then decided to give up and snap back to worst
I would do it manually, but... eff the autofocus that can't be turned off
lol
did it with 2 more pens (normal gel pens) and one ran out of ink partway
Bob
Bob
09:19
@JourneymanGeek O.O
hm.
Bob
Bob
I considered buying better paper.
but it's literally 45 times more expensive
@Bob: I'm using recycled printing paper for this for now ;p
o0
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek standard copy paper here
yeah
same ;p
Its actually pretty good (and consistant)
Bob
Bob
09:22
hm
funnily enough, we bought this box discounted
but the brand (WC Penfold) is actually associated with ne of the shops that sells fountain pens o.O
lol
I need to get out more XD
I just remembered that there's a pretty interesting stationary shop in the other computer mall
(I buy my paper from them, they're cheap, and its near where my school used to be)
Bob
Bob
ya, my handwriting is shit
lol
mine isn't all that great either ;p
Bob
Bob
also, you mangled the sentence :P
no "s" in it
the round stic was last used over half a year ago
also, it had a habit of forming a large ink bubble on the tip during heavy use
when I tried it, a chunk of dried ink broke off O.O
@JourneymanGeek No discs. Just integrated recovery Vista partition. Don't know how to load it up because Windows 7 loads.
09:32
hmm
what make of laptop?
there's sometimes a tool to get the recovery partition to boot
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek or, from the bios menu
I just hit escape during boot for a menu to come up
@Bob: that usually picks the disk tho?
@JourneymanGeek Toshiba Satellite
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek no, it was aHP menu
not my screenshot photo
09:37
Just a regular Windows 7 boot. There is Windows 7 recovery console where I can boot to earlier versions but nothing of Vista.

I thought I can find Vista recovery partition shortcut but after upgrade to Windows 7 I can't.
try this?
@Boris_yo: earlier versions often does mean vista
@Bob I see F11 system recovery on screenshot but this option is not found in my case.
Bob
Bob
@Boris_yo that's for HP
took at the boot screen
it'll tell you the button somewhere
or, search for the manual
F2 is pretty standard for BIOS
F12 for boot (disk) menu
HP has a special menu wit hEsc
Will try link that Journeyman gave me.
Bob
Bob
10:07
urk
I have pens now
I can buy ink now
But it's going to be two weeks before the syringes/pipettes are shipped -_-
starting to consider a straw...
lol
maybe an eyedropper?
Bob
Bob
10:43
@JourneymanGeek but then I'd have to convert the pen
and get something to seal it with
and I don't have eyedrppers
that's what the pipette is for
I mean, to do what you wanted to do with the syringe ;p
my mom uses these single use ones which would, in theory, work perfectly
Bob
Bob
@JourneymanGeek not accurate enough
I guess
hm, I wonder where my pipette filler went
Do you know where can I get Vista setup ISO?
I know my pipette broke
@Boris_yo: Unlike 7 or 8, there's no real legit download I know of
Bob
Bob
10:47
@JourneymanGeek want one?
I'll have a hundred in a few weeks :P
@Bob: I mean a glass one ;p
I don't have CD to burn to but I have USB Disk On Key. Maybe I can somehow burn setup ISO to there?
I probably have a plastic one somewhere too
and a burette
@JourneymanGeek I know that Windows XP, Windows Vista ISOs can be downloaded from HTTP online. If I recall, it is on Lifehacker.
Bob
Bob
considering a converter: ebay.com.au/itm/…
but no guarantee it'll fit :(
