21:00
@Sciborg "That somebody's been using the seaweed for facials...?"
@Sciborg DIY spa night?
ninja'd >:|
"Think, Mr. Rivers!" Brune barks, then subsides, realizing he's going into lunatic mode again. He exhales sharply and massages his temples. "I apologize. So. Two people are dead and they are both connected to that... whatever it is. That seaweed. What does it mean?"
He looks over at Alex. "The security tapes? Have you found them?"
As a note, you never got confirmation that the man Jack called in had died.
@Sciborg "They're downloading now"
is the format one that allows me to play during the download?
Darrion nudges Brune with the phone picture again
21:03
@Sciborg "... Was it done before or after they died though?"
@Ginger Unfortunately not. It's going to be at least another few minutes, but that one's going faster.
"...I don't know." Brune looks at the picture. "Come to think of it, that man you found - we never determined he was dead..."
@Mithical not surprising, considering that it's a security system
The download finishes after another couple minutes; you now have the footage from the last 24 hours available to you.
Something beeps on the other end of the room as it finishes.
"Doctor, the download's done"
21:06
@Sciborg "Well, 'e was alive when I found 'im"
"(ooh, alliteration!)"
@Mithical what kind of beep?
Brune hastily rolls over. "Excellent. Can we view it?"
"Does that mean the power is back?"
@Ginger You're not entirely sure, but it sounds similar to when something new is connected to a computer.
@Sciborg "Hopefully..." Alex prays that the codec the cameras use can be played by VLC and they won't have to do any converting shenanigans
@bobble "No, the power's back already... What made that noise?"
21:08
The trusty traffic cone spins up, and you've got twelve different camera angles, starting from around a day ago.
They stand up and peer in the direction of the noise, pausing VLC as well
Brune looks over, following his gaze. "You would know more than me if that's unusual."
"Has anything recently been usual?"
2
"I'm not sure, it could mean any number of things"
Alex heads over to the origin of the beep, carrying the laptop by its lid
"I'll go look" and strides off after Alex
21:10
It's dark over there, just a couple flashing lights on some old devices. A monitor shows that it's on, but with a [no signal] message bouncing around. A disconnected coax cable is coiled on the ground.
Alex takes a look at the devices, knowing that the only noise a server could've made would be a sine tone from the built-in beeper (if the motherboard even had one)
There's a rustle as some sort of bug crawls over something wrapped in plastic.
"I prefer the bubble screensaver" Darrion calls over
I have something in 20 minutes, by the way
"Everything all right over there?" Brune says, still giving nervous looks towards Jack's hands.
Alex attempts to pick up the plastic thing, carefully setting down the laptop as not to interrupt the ISO download
21:12
@Ginger There are definitely other devices here, not just servers - it looks like a couple old tower setups, a radio turned off, and a few older backup communications devices. It looks like one of the towers might have caused the beep.
@Mithical is there anything nearby to catch the bug with?
@AncientSwordRage It's gone before you get a chance to try.
I sure hope it doesn't... bug Jack that it got away (rimshot)
@Ginger It's a pack of RJ-45s, nothing special. Your server is now about halfway done.
"There's a bug over here," and remembering a few spy novels he's read adds "a creepy-crawly one" as he calls back to Brune
21:14
Alex takes a closer look at the closest of the towers
Brune flicks his eyes around nervously at the blinking red and green lights, seeming unsettled but not saying why.
Darrion, out of his league, sits down with his notes. Again.
It's old and dusty, obviously been down here for quite a while. The other one is also dusty and seemingly unused. The beep is probably something to do with the power strangeness, best you can tell.
is there any value in me continuing to mess with them?
(presuming there's no keyboard and mouse so I'd have to go get a set)
Probably not at the moment, it'd require more fiddling than you have the time and equipment for at the moment.
21:17
Alex makes a mental note of the computers and heads back over to Brune and Darrion
(Should we call it for now? Getting late at this point.)
Jack strides back, following Alex again
(happy to call it)
*shrug*
(sure <3)
21:18
Thanks for tuning in y'all :D
Is Darrion's texting okay?
the comedic value of dr. klaus watching brune come in and out repeatedly each time with different sets of people was hilarious
He's the only one doing it
It was really cute!
peak comedy
21:18
@bobble maybe ask Kiko 😜 (yes, very good)
I was promised "horror RPG" and instead got "fiddling around in a server room for an hour" /s
Also I hope I didn't overstep by giving Darrion a guest-access card
It's fine
same - if I ever overstep in my assuming the hospital layout let me know
@Ginger that's par for us 😅
I'm only slightly bummed that Jack's intimidation check didn't work out
21:22
@Ginger Gotta acclimate Alex into the group before traumatizing them too badly.
:sweating:
Either that or you took an innocent beep way too seriously... ;)
when a thing beeps, you listen
The different strands continue to tie themselves together, though.
Although admittedly mostly with the effect of traumatizing Brune even more.
21:25
@Mithical like seaweed in an ocean current
next Saturday: sentient seaweed monster terrorizes party, interrupts download at 98%
How fancy would the analog clock in Doc's office be?
as fancy as necessary
anything that halts that download will earn Alex's undying emnity
22:17
@bobble the extremely bland, "if i stare it at long enough my shift will end sooner" kind
23:14
