23:00
(reason it's a bit stupid is if Astrid gets hit Bless might go offline)
(Am I allowed to use my reaction to push astrid back?)
(If astrid runs up)
Reactions are on the table for both combatants here, yes.
(hm - can you just slap a dwarven hand on him from behind to cure him?
(G'day y'all: I must to bed. Not for right now while you're losing a fight, but fyi I've put my character sheet & other stuff about this game in a Google Sheet. I've granted access to all this game's players for whom I've a Gmail address, which is all but one.)

23:00
(If Astrid tries to run up to push the man, Lae will push her back before she can reach him)
(good night @msh210 - thank you for doing that! starring for reference.)
Well, anyways, Astrid tries to put herself between Lae and racist guy. (Considering that she's much shorter than either, this is a funny image for me)
Roll Athletics?
I will roll athletics as reaction
To push astrid back
Or what do I roll?
Debating how to rule on this.
Let's call it opposed Athletics, sure. Both of you roll Athletics.
23:03
Also, free action: "Lae! Hey! He's with me!"
6+2=8...
"Stay back, Astrid!"
Lae successfully shoves you back.
"You're hurt! Stop getting hurt!"
23:05
(Will that be enough if Astrid decides to use the contact to Cure? :P)
(I'm keeping Bless up right now)
"I'm trying, Astrid. A bit difficult right now!""
(Heal wounds is instantaneous)
(Oh yeah that le sigh)
both of you have an Inspiration because this is a very neat character development moment ;-;
(Ooh what is the bonus?)
23:06
just note it in your Inspiration thing, and you can use it to get advantage on any roll.
Do you have to declare if you're using it before seeing your first roll?
Nope, inspiration is Magic. Can declare at any time.
Astrid, I'll count that as your move action - you can still attack or do another Action if you want?
Well Action was going to be bonking guy with warhammer, but I assume Lae pushed me far enough so that isn't an option
You've got some movement left so I'd allow you to move forward and attack if you want
23:08
Can I push Astrid back again?
Because she'll have to move past me
nope, 'twas your reaction :p
Could I somehow get my shield to Lae?
Seeing as I have one, he doesn't, and he needs it more
Might be too much for this turn.
I'm pushing it already :p
Can I just get it out, then?
23:10
Sure, you can draw it
Okay I get my shield out (forgot if I got my warhammer out beforehand, but still getting shield anyhow)
Grumpy Guy's turn now, i think.
Yee
He's fixated on Ink, right?
(This will be fun -.-;)
He was successfully distracted by Ink, and now he's got two adventurers mobbing him, so he is looking increasingly frustrated.
"You want to play? All right, kitty cat, dodge this!" he yells.
23:12
(Note - Ink did say to leave not "hang around I want everything you know)
(Does he move?)
(and ... why aren't I 5' away? reads back)
(I would like to use my opportunity strike if this boi moves towards Ink)
Ink, what's your AC again? He's making a ranged spell attack.
Why am I 10' away? o.O
23:13
@Sciborg 14
(my ac is 14)
You came out from behind the rock and moved towards him, I thought?
Are you in his melee range then?
I wanted to be close to him so he'd have to attack me with his sword ;p
yeah
Oh, well, sh*t, never mind, he's slashing at you
Can I push him?
23:14
Two attacks
Do something?
Your reaction is used up and it's not your turn.
One hits, other misses.
(I only have one reaction per round?)
23:14
Yes.
That'll be 9 slashing on you, Ink.
So I take 4 of my actual HP dmg, but the coloured ice shatters and shards rip into the guy dealing 5 dmg
23:15
Cold
Guy stumbles and looks very surprised.
He's quite bloodied up now.
Ink snarls and readies an eldritch blast, the fire beginning to burn up his arm
Lae's right eye is bloodshot red
(My turn?)
Draconic (Leave!)
Ink is ignoring Lae.
23:17
It is Lae's turn now, yes.
Guy looks quite beaten up and very pissed.
(It is Lae's turn, I am doing my colourful free action)
Okay rolling for attack
(in case he wants to take his move to flee)
I have advantage, right?
Why advantage?
23:17
Inspiration?
(1d4 at least :P)
Are you choosing to use your Inspiration point?
(You are blessed first of all
Okay, roll twice and take higher attack.
23:18
(rolling)
You're back to zero inspiration now.
20 and 13
This is why you take inspiration :P
The 20 hits.
Okay and how does crit work?
I make two attacks?
Roll usual damage and then double it at the end.
23:19
Ah, okay
5+3=8x2=16
Yeesh
Lae is pissed
You hit the guy HARD and nearly knock him to the floor. He starts coughing blood and looks very not okay.
(Is he at zero?)
"Lay off," he gasps out, "gods, okay, I submit."
23:21
Lae stumbles up to him.
"Lae, no killing!"
"What..." (gasp) "Are you planning?"
"I was just trying to figure out who that bloody fellow is, you didn't have to almost kill me. Gods!" He coughs some more blood. "Can't believe I got my ass handed to me by a bunch of chumps."
Ink readies his action based on seeing this guy do anything that is aggressive.
Lae growls at him. "I know he's more than just a 'bloody fellow'... flat ear."
23:23
(He isn't participating in the conversation other than looking imposing and as if he is going to let loose multi coloured fire...)
Can Astrid check to see if anything major is hurt? She's worried by the coughing-blood bit
You can roll Medicine, sure.
(Assuming I can lean into the weird and the earlier Intimidation and the surprise ice damage)
"Bloody hell," the man says. "Fine." He struggles to sit up, wincing. "Lay off me. Put the weapons away. I won't fight. Let's talk while I try not to die here."
whistles 20+5=25
23:24
@Sciborg Insight roll
11+3=14
The man took some real nasty sword wounds and is in bad shape, but he's probably not going to die. The coughing blood seems to be a side effect of Lae stabbing him in the ribs.
He seems to be honestly asking to stop the fight.
Lae cautiously sheathes his rapier
"Look, you're not going to die. Lae, don't hurt him more - and guy, don't try anything"
The man waves a hand with great difficulty, and his spectral longsword vanishes. "Not... gonna try anything. Ow."
Can I try Cure Wounds on Lae?
23:26
Yup, you have spell slots I think.
1d8+3, right?
4+3=7
Also, I think that would stop the Bless?
Lae smiles. "Thank you, Astrid."
Yeah.
You're out of combat now, as well - guy is truly submitting.
Astrid runs her hands near Lae's injuries and smiles when they stop looking so bad
"Don't die on me, okay? I've gotten used to your elf-y self"
23:29
Ink doesn't really relax his guard, though he notes that hostilities have ceased... he still hasn't really been listening to the conversation and is trying to pretend he is entirely scary which he totally isn't.
"Plus, then Fen would be sad"
Lae smirks. "Sorry to disappoint, but I won't be dying today."
Lae faces Guy. "Talk."
The guy rolls his eyes. "Just because you roughed me up doesn't mean I have to like you chumps."
He sits up painfully. "Tell me who you are."
He wipes blood off his mouth with his sleeve. "Varlan Holdfast. Your turn."
23:32
"Læraðr"
"What the heck was that conversation?"
"Can't say it's a pleasure." He opens his pouch and rummages around as he speaks. "Don't get any wrong ideas, I'm just looking for salve. Since you stabbed me, and all."
(I'm justifying the saving-Lae stuff above as Astrid got used to Lae while travelling in the forest, and didn't realize it until he was nearly dying, and then she sort of jumped into protecting him without worrying about what that meant)
(I would find this amazing if we hire ourselves to the bad guy of the other group)
(Oooh, is that hobbler the bad guy?)
"Enough stalling, Holdfast. Care to explain what I overheard?"
He takes out a little jar of salve and starts dabbing it on his rapier wounds as he speaks. "This man I'm looking for - he's not a criminal, per se. But he is hiding some information that I need. He calls himself Matlock, if I remember correctly."
23:35
Astrid moves over to Ink and quietly asks "you hurt?"
"What kind of information?"
"Is he dangerous?"
He looks at you steadily. "I'm looking for a dragon egg. I have reason to believe he is in possession of it or knows where it is."
Insight roll
Ugh, 1
Ink nods a little bit at Astrid, the one attack having gone straight through his armor. "I will survive for now though, friend Astrid..." he smiles a little bit awkwardly.
2+3=5
Better than a 1 smh
23:37
You've got no idea if he's being straight with you, but he is now speaking steadily and making eye contact, and seems to respect you now that you've beaten him.
"This dragon egg... what are you planning to do with it?" Lae looks at him directly. "Also, what the hell are you? Ghost swords?"
"I'm planning to return it to its proper owner," he says. "And you've got no business knowing more."
Astrid makes a small flower bloom (one of the nice-smelling ones) and offers it to Ink. Then goes back to Lae
Lae snarls. "Fine. But at least tell me what you are."
(Asking about his class)
Ink smiles at Astrid and gives her a quick hug with his tail before she leaves, tucking the bloom into the loop of his cloak.
23:40
(genuinely curious)
He shrugs. "I'm a knight. And I've trained in a bit of what you'd call, ah... unusual magic."
Lae nods, extending a hand. "Perhaps you aren't half-bad, though I'd suggest you don't go around calling elves pointy-ears."
(Extending hand to help him up)
"Yeah, whatever." He takes your hand grudgingly and lets you help him up. "I respect you blokes. Don't go getting in my way again. What I'm trying to do is... very important."
(Ah the far kingdom of Oz)
Lae nods. "We'll try not to."
"Good luck with your dragon egg. Or bad luck, depending on what you plan to do with it."
Lae nods at Ink and Astrid. "Perhaps... we should return to the inn?"
23:45
"Pah." He stomps back off down the road.
"And collect Fen. Where did he run off to?"
Fen comes trotting back
Lae sighs. "I'm glad you're safe, punk."
Astrid scratches Fen behind the ears
Ink watches the man leave and then turns to Lae, (sylvan) "I hope you got what you wanted..." A paw reaches up to press at his wounded shoulder.
Lae grimaces. (syl.) "Let's talk more in the inn, shall we?"
23:48
The man, who was leaving, suddenly stops and swivels around, seemingly rethinking himself. "Actually," he says. "Wait. You chumps. Can I ask you something?"
Ink looks back up as the man speaks.
"Why did you go after me?" He squints. "Truly. I haven't seen anyone that brave in a long time."
Lae shurgs. "You called me pointy-ears. You looked suspicious."
"Elves don't take insults lightly."
(He's only asking Lae? Or all of us?)
23:51
He looks questioningly at Astrid and Ink. "And you two. You followed his lead?"
"You hurt Lae. I was trying to protect him"
Ink looks at the man, aware he is being asked something and raises an eyebrow.
The man studies Ink and then returns to Draconic. "I forgot you might not speak Common."
Ink smiles slightly and murmurs in draconic, "I am not ... from around here."
"Well. Not every day I see adventurers willing to pitch their tents for each other like that, jumping right up to help. You've earned my respect." He rummages in his pouch, emerges with a small object, and tosses it at Ink. "Catch."
Then he turns around and heads back down the road.
23:55
Ink tries to see what it is beforehand, but is probably going to end up grabbing for it.
Arcana if you'd like?
15 + 2 = 17
The object appears to be a smooth, flat, jagged ruby-red dragon scale. On closer inspection, however, you're almost positive it has some kind of enchantment, although you're not sure exactly what it is.
Lae sighs and relaxes, and then jerks his head to the inn. "Let us head back, shall we?" He suddenly looks... troubled.
Ink's eyes flicker with interest and his ears are forward, gazing at the scale, curiosity now slightly taking over and he is slightly more deafened to the outside world.
23:58
Lae nudges Ink. "Inn. Please."
Astrid takes a step forward then stops, watching Ink
Ink comes back to reality with a start, "Oh! Uh... sorry, friend Lae... Lead on..." And he looks sheepish as he places the scale into his Book of Shadows.
