12:08 AM
@Mithical This is familiar. We went from "hey 28 days case free" to lockdown measures again over night ^^;

5 hours later…
5:10 AM
@Mithical Well, you're up early :P
@Sciborg I thought it was Mondays and Fridays now?

Couldn't sleep well

Ah, shucks. Sorry to hear that
Meanwhile, I will be heading to bed rn >.<
Good night!

some creepy bunnies to help you sleep

\o night North
No point heading to sleep at this point, morning inspection is in 45 minutes

11 hours later…
3:56 PM
Whee! Managed to get home in the end
I guess I can level up now :D

:D

okay, so looks like I get to choose another spell

a... level 2 spell?

No
You don't have a level 2 spell slot yet

4:05 PM
got it

Just another level 1 spell
I'd suggest you get Hunter's Mark, because that's like the Ranger spell, but there are some other really good options too

Rangers are "half-casters" - you get spellcasting abilities, just slower than the purely spell-focused classes

Like Zephyr Strike, where it'll allow you to increase your walking speed and move back to shoot people without provoking opportunity attacks

interesting.

You can also do Hail of Thorns, which pairs nicely with your archery-focused build
A bunch of other useful spells, just depending on what you need/want
Only reason why I suggest Hunter's Mark is because it guarantees an additional d6 damage if you land a hit

4:09 PM
Currently scrolling through the lists of Archetypes

Ah, I thought you went with Hunter?

I don't think I picked one? I picked a Fighting Style but that's not the same thing

Ah, I thought you went with Hunter. My bad
There are a bunch of other cool options
(huh, hail of thorns also deals damage, but just less if the opponent saves their throw)

Honestly... I'm looking at Gloom Stalker, just because I suspect Mick will be working my backstory into the campaign and being able to hide in the dark might become very useful :P
doesn't work so well with the archery though

Hehe, you can be gloom stalker buddies!
(I'm also Gloom Stalker)

4:14 PM
nice

And tbh it's actually not that bad with archery. You can just hide and snipe people. Just know that making an attack will alert ppl where you are, so you'd need to move

Rangers get all these fancy sub-type choices, while my main Decisions are which spells I have prepared from my very long list of available spells.

Ah yup
If you want good spell list, definitely go Horizon Walker. By far has the best list of spells
Fey Wanderer is good if you want to look hot and also be good with Charisma skills and stuff

not super interested in looking hot, not high on Kith's list of priorities

Fey Wanderer is Sexy Ranger, and Gloom Stalker is Spooky Ranger, is what I've got from this

4:21 PM
where's sassy ranger

Hm
Hunter's pretty sassy
> Slayer's Prey
Starting at 3rd level, you can focus your ire on one foe, increasing the harm you inflict on it. As a bonus action, you designate one creature you can see within 60 feet of you as the target of this feature. The first time each turn that you hit that target with a weapon attack, it takes an extra 1d6 damage from the weapon.
^ That's actually Monster Slayer
"you can focus your ire on one foe" :P

Searing Smite or Hunter's Mark, hmmm...

Well, you'd need to make a melee attack before it triggers for searing smite

Searing Smite would be useful if I suddenly find myself in battle at close quarters (like the jackal). The magical arrows presumably already give me an advantage when making a ranged attack.

Honestly, Hunter's Mark is just better :P
Your Spell Save DC isn't that high, so there's a good chance that the monster will be able to save their Constitution DC
Hunter's mark just deals d6

4:28 PM
Hmm, does Gloom Stalker give me an advantage when I cast Fog Cloud?

Not really
Remember you can't see through the fog either
And Gloom Stalker has to do with lighting

true

You'd need to also learn a spell like "Control Flames" (or force Johnny to learn it) in order to maximize effectivity

in that case, Hunter is probably my best option at this point - it's the most versatile

Alternatively, at level 4, you can learn blind-fighting (by ditching archery) and learn darkness at level 5

4:31 PM
@PrinceNorthLæraðr you've convinced me

:P
We have the same spells now :P
Except I also have disguise self, which might(?) come useful?
Hunter is very versatile, but just know you can only pick one from your choices at 3, 7, etc.

Do I add hitpoints etc. at this point as well?

Yup
Additional 6 health + Constitution mod

so going from 20 to 28

4:35 PM
haha i still winning

hit dice stay the same?
or no, I add another

@Mithical Nope. You gain one more hit die
So you'd have 3d10 now

yep, just saw that

;-; me with 26 health

anything else I should know? anything else that changes?

4:36 PM
You get primeval awareness

yesterday, by bobble
> Beginning at 3rd Level, you can use your action and expend one Ranger spell slot to focus your awareness on the region around you. For 1 minute per level of the spell slot you expend, you can sense whether the following types of creatures are present within 1 mile of you (or within up to 6 miles if you are in your Favored terrain): Aberrations, Celestials, Dragons, Elementals, fey, Fiends, and Undead. This feature doesn't reveal the creatures' location or number.

I get 9HP on level up, hah

@bobble grumble

saw that - meant in terms of like spells, proficiency, etc. that I need to change on the first sheet

4:37 PM
5 + 3 + 1 = 9 :D
well maybe put any new combatty spell in the Attacks area?

hmm

You could. I'm double-checking, but looks like you got everything
Which thing did you take for level 3 hunter?

yesterday, by Mithical
I rather like Giant Killer for a tiny halfling, actually

5 hours later…
9:24 PM
i love the idea of Kith being a Giant Killer because literally everyone qualifies as giants compared to a halfling
and it's adorable

9:57 PM
Hehe
But it's "Large" or larger
Can "giant killer" just apply to everyone bigger than Kith's size? :P

Yes :p

11:03 PM
Haha
I don't get how it works though
Ohhh, wait nvm I for some reason thought it was opportunity attacks
Holy crap Kith
So basically, any character that's Medium or larger gets attacked by Kith with reaction
That's literally like 90% all enemies encountered
That's HILARIOUS

wait doesn't that already happen?
I'm confused
I thought you could always opportunity attack at close range

No, Giant Killer isn't an opportunity attack

oh so you get 2 opportunity attacks, essentially?

No, it's completely different
It's when an enemy that's Large or larger misses or hits you with an attack, you can attack immediately afterward given you are within 5 feet of the monster

unlimited per round?

11:07 PM
No, it's a reaction

you're still confusing

I'll just paste the description
You get one reaction "move" per round
> Giant Killer. When a Large or larger creature within 5 feet of you hits or misses you with an attack, you can use your reaction to attack that creature immediately after its attack, provided that you can see the creature.
So yeah, Kith can only do it once per round (provided she still has her reaction) but it's still really good because most Large enemies or larger are solitary
Except, DM seems to have allowed Giant Killer to work for medium or larger creatures for Kith because that's funny and awesome :P

11:27 PM
I mean, i was mostly kidding, but if Mith makes a convincing argument for a specific enemy i might allow it :p

11:38 PM
Hehe

11:48 PM
@Sciborg Kith: EVERYONE IS LARGER THAN I AM YOU GOT A PROBLEM DM FIGHT ME

If I allowed it for every enemy, it would overpower the heck out of Kith :p
basically a free extra attack

Yeah, true, but it's funny
(contemplating whether to ask if people are free for a session)
@Sciborg Btw are your sessions with your regular group on Mondays and Fridays or Mondays and Wednesdays?

am too sleepy to DM at the moment ;-;
my sessions with regular group are Monday/Wednesday but sometimes we reschedule on Fridays

(hehe, no problem, looking forward to Saturday :D)
@Sciborg Ah I see

:)
