So I woke up to find my computer powered on this morning. Did I turn it on in my sleep? Strange.
Task manager says it has been on for 8 days straight. What?

@Michael I've been lent a friend's PC that seems to do this (turn itself on from suspend inexplicably)
I keep meaning to dig into Event Viewer to figure out why

I always do a shut down every night though. Maybe I suspended last night by accident. Still doesn't explain the 8 day uptime.

weird

5:18 PM
is it windows 10?
i suspend mine before bed but it wakes up in the night at random times
if i could be arsed with the faff of figuring it out i'd fix it

@Burgi Yep
I wonder if fast startup is messing with my uptime statistic. When you shut down with fast startup enabled (which it is by default), it puts the system in a kind of hibernation where it writes the kernel state directly to disk so that the kernel doesn't have to boot up from scratch when the computer boots.
I would guess that installing Windows Updates temporarily disables this because the updates modify the kernel and probably require the kernel to boot from scratch after the updates are installed. However, the last time updates were installed on my system was on Feb 21, but Task Manager says the computer has been running since Feb 28.
@Burgi USB devices could be waking it. My mouse randomly lights up when the computer is off (it is gaming mouse with fancy lighting).

i disabled the mouse from waking the system

5:34 PM
Maybe it's the network card.

i think it is windows update
again not really a big issue, just annoying and odd

Do you have pets? Maybe a cat walking on the keyboard?

no pets
when i can be arsed i'll investigate it properly but its fine for now

Does it happen approximately once per month? Could be Windows Update then.
