Not really
I don't think most contemporary PC's would have VT D

@JourneymanGeek hmm, I guess that'd mean that VMware and virtualbox won't run 64bit guest OSs on them, and docker won't run on them either?
though, software.intel.com/en-us/… "Docker for Windows requires that your development system's CPU include support for the full range of hardware virtualization available in most modern mobile, desktop, and server CPUs. On an Intel processor, this means your CPU supports VT-x, VT-d, and VT-x with EPT (all three virtualization features must be supported). "
so it says "most modern mobile, desktop, and server CPUs"
(slight correction, vmware and virtualbox are fine. Docker OTOH may need VT-d as per above.. though still I notice that link above says most contemporary CPUs have it)

@barlop AIUI your system must be able to run Client Hyper-V. On Intel hardware, that means VT-x and EPT. On AMD systems, that means AMD-V with RVI.
Nearly any system with a recent Intel or AMD processor supports these features. The EPT/RVI part is what Microsoft calls "second-level address translation". It's also sometimes called "nested paging".
Contrary with what that article says, VT-d (or AMD-Vi) is not required.
(indeed, I've never actually heard of Hyper-V requiring an IOMMU to work, though some special features require it)
Because AIUI if you can launch a Hyper-V virtual machine, you can run Docker for Windows.

@barlop BS
There's no way I know of to do IOMMU/VT-D on windows desktop
You only need that to passthrough PCIe and such

3:27 AM
Some Windows Defender features do require an IOMMU, though not much of that advanced functionality is on Windows 10 Pro, only Enterprise.
On Windows 10 Pro, only the Exploit Guard part requires an IOMMU to function.
Hmm...

Is there a logic behind the section numbering in manpage?

So, a company wishes to potentially hire me as a freelance writer, but they want to publish what I write on their blog under someone else's name
This means that I won't be able to list the stuff I write on my resumé/portfolio, right?
@Biswapriyo unix.stackexchange.com/a/3587/105806 please perform a web search before asking here

That smells a bit off

6:12 AM
@rahuldottech No no,no that. I know that. I mean like when we represent some layers like hardware --> kernel --> user. Can I represent manpage sections as layers?

6:22 AM
Not really in that sense

@JourneymanGeek yeah, I might ask on workplace.se
Why is this getting downvotes? superuser.com/a/1405249/432540
Argh
There can be more than one way to do something!

Q: Company wants to publish my work under someone else's name?

rahuldottechSo, I'm fresh out of high school, I applied to my first job, and got a response! I'll be a freelance writer, writing about tech for a company's blog. However, my (potential) employer mentioned in their last email that the stuff I write may either be published without a name or under the company...

Bob
@rahuldottech That's just ghostwriting.
Nothing necessarily wrong with that.
You decide if that's what you want to do.

7:13 AM
@Bob The pay is USD 80 per article, which I could reallllly use
But...
Dunno. Doesn't feel right to me?
> We pay $80 USD per post, and your post (when it goes live) may or may not attribute you as the main author. Some of our posts are rewritten in my voice, or just as "$companyName" We can discuss all the details if you like — some of this is flexible depending on your requests. How's that sound?

7:50 AM
Ok that sounds lawyer cyaish

8:35 AM
@JourneymanGeek wait what does that mean?

It means that 'hey we own your post and may post it under our in name. No sueing!'

@JourneymanGeek ah.

@Bob Deleted the device. Now locked out of riot/matrix and it won't accept my saved password. Password reset fails as it claims my email address is not associated with my account. I'm screwed big time.

@DavidPostill try: different browser
@DavidPostill try: davidpostill on https://roota.cc server rather than email address

some scumbags have smashed all my solar lights

Never mind. Getting there

5:09 PM
@Burgi that sucks

i can repair them both but the cases are smashed
they were only £3 a piece but it is the principle that has annoyed me
they were illuminating a pathway that isn't covered by the street lights
i was trying to be altruistic

5:24 PM
@rahuldottech tbh if you're paid for it, they own it and can do as they like
just as at work if i write something, work owns it and can do what they like
and @Burgi's code? his work owns that and can do what they like
welcome to th world of selling your services

anything i write at work on a work pc is their IP

yah
tbh if they publish it under your name, even sometimes, great
you don't like it? don't sign

Yeah, okokokokokok
Also, does anyone here know what "Applying a wim file to a drive" means?
Like... just extracting the files?
(cc @Bob)
They use GImageX in this tutorial, but can't I just use 7zip and get it over with?

Properly taped and mudded, there won't be an issue, because the tape & mud glue it all together, and it's ... non-structural anyway. Sure, you might find the edges of the patch while punching the wall, but in that case you are probably ripping it out to repair the plumbing, or just angry and punching holes in the wall, and in either case it does not matter at that point. — Ecnerwal 2 days ago
that moment when you're random punching holes in your walls, but accidently hit the patch ;D
im knackered

How does the speed of ram affect the performance of the following c++ code
vector <int> V; for(int i = 0;i<MAX; i++){ V.push_back(
oops
vector <int> V;
V.push_back(0)
for(int i = 0;i<MAX;i++){
V.push_back((V[i] + V[i-1])%31);
}
so essentially im just filling a vector
is that sort of code bottlenecked by ram speed?
