1:30 AM
@JourneymanGeek that's... not a great idea

2:29 AM
@bwDraco meh. Got micro and C and you're mostly good. Mini is rare.
@Burgi noms. Also a bun. As opposed to a bun bun ....

5 hours later…
7:35 AM
@JourneymanGeek mini is used by cameras very often
Also, Arduinos, old drives, mp3 players.
Printers and external DVD drives
^ all stuff I use that requires mini
@JourneymanGeek that's stupid

Mostly legacy tech
@rahuldottech I actually get the sentiment for some sites
But rather than saying it's stupid it's worth weighing the pros and cons....

@JourneymanGeek imo emoji are ok in comments
And as much as I dislike them, they are becoming increasingly accepted and adopted into widespread use, especially among my generation (shudder)
So... Keep adapting or die? ;P
Also, acceptable in chat, I suppose.
Aaaand I just saw this comment on Reddit:
> I'm in cuteness overload 😍💙❤️😍❤️❣️
I guess emoji are here to stay

It's fine on chat
Unless people complain
Emoji are an accessibility problem and don't really have the slightly formal tone posts should have

Bob
7:51 AM
@JourneymanGeek Funnily enough there's the argument that emoji are more accessible because they're understandable across languages

True but they're harder to see for people with poor eyesight and not at all screen reader friendly

Bob
8:13 AM
@JourneymanGeek Erm. I think I fall under poor eyesight, and screen readers *should be easily able to adapt.
Every emoji has a well-defined text description in the unicode standard anyway
in fact NVDA seems to have it built-in now github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/8499
idk about JAWS

8:53 AM
@Bob A friend of mine uses JAWS, and I think he mentioned being able to hear descriptions of emoji. He also uses NVDA in school tho, so I might be misremembering

Holy crap the Sony XZ3 has insane battery life.
I mean Sony phones have been decent for a while bit this is seriously insane. Accidentally left it on with GPS on overnight, doing constant network scans, drained less than 10% in 12 hours.

Bob
@FMLCat I don't bother turning off GPS on my S9 these days :\

11:35 AM
@Bob oh I don't turn it off in the menu, I mean I left a network scanning app running that was actively using the GPS all night

Bob
11:53 AM
@FMLCat oh

12:17 PM
That is good to know. I still turn all off on my S9 otherwise the battery is empty within a week

Bob
> within a week
@FMLCat Do you have it on the battery saver one that uses wifi?

.... Within a week 00...

12:41 PM
A week huh; that'd be with the external battery backpack? :-P

It does not use all that much with the screen off (and wifi, data, gps etc) off all week

<insert old joke about saving even more power with it turned off completely>
;-P

True. And I did not see that scene before.
But I tend I just put it in a drawer while at work,
Then go home and turn and the PC, cook dinner etc
With games on the desktop, books, an ebook reader.... the S9 is usually just phone with a nice camara build in
So no it lasts surprisingly long. Less than the S5 though, that one was down to 14$ chanrge after 12 days

2 hours later…
2:35 PM
@Bob nope. Full high accuracy gps.

Bob
3:08 PM
@FMLCat ah. that's pretty nice (and maybe weird) then :P

3:48 PM
roar

the solution here is not to be on facebook

@Burgi precisely

I don't use Facebook. I have Twitter and Instagram accounts, but not Facebook.
(yes, I know Instagram is part of Facebook, but that's besides the point)

6:48 PM
lol
What I want to know is how the passengers sitting on the roof stop themselves falling off when the train reaches 180km/h ...

Superglue made from cow bones
In other news, they found the pot at the end of the rainbow

lol
And I was just reading bbc.co.uk/news/health-47241787
> the price for cannabis - £695 for one month's supply
This is way over the street price for cannabis ...

For me the price is identical everywhere.
The price for nice games and hardware tyoys otoh is quite non zero

@Hennes 0 I presume?

nods
Never saw the need. No sigarette (regular or otherwise), no alcohol
Alcohol held until I was 30
Rest still holds

7:02 PM
I know what the street price is - and that's all I'm going to say ...

Hmm, enough has arrived from NL.... that EU country
Fun with stockpiling before brexit :(

2 hours later…
8:47 PM
£1/g?

Cheaper than printer ink!

Everything is cheaper than printer inkt.
But I must remember that as an answer.

Sadly true

hey folks, got a problem :/ one of my desktops (older HP desktop, core i3/16GB RAM/retrofitted with a Radeon HD 4000-series card, and running Debian testing with the radeon driver) just stopped outputting video while running after a period of erratic GPU fan operation (the fan was "twitching" repeatedly like a motor with a bad start cap). the computer seems to be otherwise fine, and I was able to restart the dodgy fan by stopping it and giving it a flick with my finger, ...
but is there anything I should try to recover video output short of rebooting? (the erratic GPU fan operation had been going for a period of probably a few days to a week?) also, the machine has no SSHd on it
(also, I'm using the card's only DVI output -- it has 1 DVI and what appear to be 2 HDMI or DP ports, but I can't tell for sure on the latter)
and there went the fan again....

@Shalvenay Make sure the card and its power connections are properly seated. If there's an accessible fan header on the board, make sure the connector is properly attached.

@bwDraco hrm. I can try...
no accessible fan header I can see, card and power connections seem seated fine

11:38 PM
@Hennes cool

11:56 PM
(one other note -- the machine does have integrated video in addition to the balky video card, not sure if that's at all useful)\
