@Bob Yeah, there's a reason I keep a custom OptiPNG build on my desktop...
PNG is great at handling limited palettes. You just need to have the appropriate software to make the most of the format.

@djsmiley2k on a related subject: it looks like you can't vote below 0 question anymore on the StackOverflow site
I am getting a feeling that StackExchange has some consulting company feeding them all of this
something under the disguise of "how to be more welcoming" ... ya know, because the investors are expecting infinite growth in clicks

8:33 AM
@Ave isn't the alternative to right actually left?
americans are confusing

@Burgi Uhm. That's other left

Bob
9:02 AM
@Burgi alternative of, not to

9:20 AM
@Ave so you are saying that he's advocating for the white ethnostate?
because if he isn't, then he's not "alt-right" and you are mis-using the term

Ave
@Burgi think of it like "alt-rock".
> In this instance, the word "alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream rock music.

@Burgi well, since some they actually are just re-branded neonazis, and some people say that nazis were socialists, you could honestly try to argue that (not sure about the success chances, though)

Ave
@tereško Respectfully, you're wrong. Alt-right has many speaking points, many beliefs, many ideologies. The main one is indeed white supremacy, but things like anti-feminism and anti-PC are also part of their major speaking points, and this dude has at least one tweet that expresses those views.

no, they are not

Ave
Would it be more accurate to say "Don't support the dude, he is an anti feminist."? Yes.
Is my message wrong? No.

9:28 AM
or are you one of those people who says that Tim Pool is alt-right

Ave
who even is tim pool

being anti-feminist has nothing to do with being alt-right

Ave
oh he's a pro-jp dude
lol.

wat

Ave
Don't get me wrong, political correctness is a bad ideology, but not in the way alt-right makes it out to be.

9:31 AM
alt-right has nothing with being against political correctness
alt right are neo nazis
that's it
that's the extent of their ideology

Ave
@tereško I'll do the simplest thing and link you to wikipedia and ask that you inform yourself: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt-right

> The alt-right is a white nationalist, biologically racist movement. Part of its membership supports anti-immigrationist policies to ensure a continued white majority in the United States. Others call for the breakup of the country to form a white separatist ethno-state in North America.
from your link

Ave
Can you please read past the first paragraph?
You are not debating in good faith.

> Groups which have been identified as alt-right also espouse white supremacism, white separatism, severe immigration restrictions, and antisemitism.
that's from the first paragraph

Ave
> The alt-right is anti-feminist, advocates for a more patriarchal society, and intersects with the men's rights movement and other sectors of the online manosphere. Alt-rightists generally support anti-interventionist and isolationist foreign policies alongside economic protectionism and thus criticise mainstream U.S. conservatism. In comparison to U.S. conservatives, the alt-right typically has less focus on homosexuality and abortion. Many members of the alt-right will denigrate gay culture while tolerating gay writers who support their views. Individuals aligned with many of the alt-rig

9:33 AM
what I posted you was from 3rd prahtaph

Ave
Third paragraph.
@tereško Can you please stop picking my words again?
My point is that I'm asking you to read enough of it.
I didn't mean "read past the first paragraph" literally, and I'm sure you're aware. I'm simply asking you to read more.

@Ave my point is that anti-feminists are not alt-right

Ave
My point is that it doesn't matter.

it does, because Mark Kern is not alt-right

Ave
It doesn't, because he is spreading their speaking points.

9:36 AM
lol

Would it be more accurate to say "Don't support the dude, he is an anti feminist."? Yes.

everything is being branded "alt right talking points" that does not adhere with mainstream opinion

Ave
But again, it doesn't really matter. My point came across, and wasn't intended for you. The intended person got what I was referring to.
@tereško No, that's just their victim card.

sorry, but when Tulsi is told to be alt-right, there is something wrong

if they are neo-nazis use that term

9:41 AM
you seem to be unaware that to the screeching masses on twitter (yes, specifically there), everything that is not adhering to their ideology is "alt right", and every one who does not religiously agree with then get told to be "alt right" (though it starts by being branded "alt right adjacent" .. but then citogenesis happens)
@Burgi it has lost the shock-value :(

the term "alt-right" legitimises them

@Burgi naah, that I blame Milo for - that dumb fuck decided to declare that he is alt-right before actually learning what they are

its the same issue with ISIS and the term "so-called Islamic State"

Daesh :D

the BBC use "so-called" to delegitimise them

9:45 AM
but is their preferred pronoun
BBC is so intolerant

i know you are joking but dude in the current SE climate you'll be sent to the dungeons for thought crimes

I would like to see them adding that in-front of "People's Republic of China" and "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" ... ya know, for consistence sake
(also .. is it just me or NK tried to one-up China with their "official name")
@Burgi I am afraid that SE might be on the verge of bankruptcy and all these action are their attempts to attract more traffic. Call it "buzzfeed/vice school of attracting investors".

10:50 AM
@tereško Language!

11:15 AM
Spamdexing drives me nuts.
When a website is compromised, it's not unusual for the attaker to do keyword stuffing...

11:59 AM
@tereško Yianolopolopoplolous?
I think he wanted to run for rectorship of my alma mater
Or was it to come and give a talk?
Either way, the student body told him where to stick his rhetoric

12:25 PM
@bertieb it's probably the faculty that told "no", because with his talks come the mandatory antifa riots

it's a loose-loose situation for the university and the just chose the cheaper "loose"
@bertieb oh, so it was a publicity stunt and not a talk
(this is why I am actually annoyed at that guy)

@tereško The rector - perhaps unlike at other institutions - has actual duties

yup

including representation on council
I dunno if it was a pub stunt or not, I can't read his mind
nor would I wish to
as what spews forth from there is bad enough

12:30 PM
not really, his opinions are actually bland (from what I know), but delivered in most inflammatory way possible

yes, it is inflammatory
but the point is actually that islam is an extremely homophobic religion (as are chirstianity and judaism)
there is an existing culture-clash there, that people just try to ignore in hope that it will magically go away if you wish really really hard

I'm not sure what a non-bland view would be

@bertieb try alt-right speeches or maybe what some televangelists/imams say

No thanks
I am having a nice day and I am in a good mood

12:37 PM
you asked :D

I am happy to be told
I am not going to go searching for stuff that will get me put on one or more government watch lists

@tereško I guess I'm not the only one worried about this...
I posted this in our Matrix room a while back:
> I fear SEI may end up running out of money and shutting down within a few years' time, taking the community with it...

they just need to hand in for 6 more months, till I get a new job (I need the profile page for CV) :D
I know that in stackoverflow side there are multiple chat rooms that have created external discord servers as a backup
looks impressive

Can someone find me the link of the guideline of self-promoting a software? Or just put that directly onto this answer

A: LTO-6 with Hardware Encryption Enabled using LTFS File System Possible on HP Ultrium?

Erix FoxI created a small tool for Windows, to manage encryption, that works together with LTFS. https://github.com/VulpesSARL/LTOEnc

@CaldeiraG 'How to recommend software in answers' is a good start
lemme grab a link

Q: How do I recommend software in my answers?

James MertzI have a piece of software that I would like to recommend as a solution to problems. I'm trying to avoid answering with "link only" answers, and so I need help on how I can answer valid questions with software that I know will help the OP. We do not advocate users asking for software recomme...

Thanks, I was looking at the help center
didn't help much :D

Short version is that disclosure of affiliation is needed, and it needs to answer the question in the answer itself
not just "hi QuuxSoft2000 can do this"

@bertieb That's what i did on my comment, I just wanted the link for a guideline on how to do it :)

That said, if it's a good-faith answer it's usually salvagable
Unlike outright spam

2:40 PM
Also, you shouldn't just be here to promote your own product. It's okay to occasionally reference your own products in your answers, but we don't like seeing users post entirely for promotional purposes.

It doesn't look like spam but since the user is new, I'll give it a shot

That sorta depends on context
I'd be more inclined a new user who wrote a [F]OSS tool and put it on GitHub a pass and let them bring the answer up to standards

(a possible exception is a company's support representatives providing tech support for their products, which I've seen Western Digital do in the past; this is generally okay)

If someone's here to spam LPT, they can go insert that long path somewhere obscure

2:54 PM
@bertieb it should be noted that @fixer1234's answer there is the better one and fits the site standards
the accepted answer contradicts itself

3:11 PM
@Burgi In that the example doesn't say how to fix a specific problem, but the bullet points do?

yes

Fair enough
I think the bullet points are clear enough but it's good to have an example of both

the accepted answer says "follow these rules" then @fixer1234's example answer actually follows those rules

Howdy
How do you disable that annoying thing about VSCode
where if you open a file from a folder
And don't touch it at all
And open another file from that folder
Then it replaces that folder instead of making another tab?

its in the settings somewhere, i think it is under "number of tabs open"
