My biggest gripe with DVI is that the connector is huge.
These days, HDMI is the "universal" display connector, with DisplayPort for more advanced PC displays.
DisplayPort is the preferred interface for high-end graphics cards; my GeForce GTX 1080 Ti has one HDMI connector and one DVI-D connector, but three DisplayPort jacks. (Although that's five connectors, only four displays can be connected at a time.)
Funnily enough, my cheapie Acer 21.5" IPS monitor has VGA, DVI-D, and HDMI, and came with cables for all three. (IIRC my Dell S2417DG only came with a DisplayPort cable despite also having an HDMI port.)
@LWChris I actually think that's fine as a question for the site
as long as you've shown what you've tried
There's a handful of people who are really good at FFMPEG on there and well, we super vaguely discourage people from asking questions here since the site gets more eyeballs and is useful for more people
Well, the problem is, what I have tried is using the filter. It's been re-encoding (I think?) my 11s video for 10 minutes, doubling the file size so far ^^
I don't know what exactly the frame rate has to do with it, but now the conversion runs about as long as the video is, the file size shrinks enormously and it works
idk why, but the source file also had 10211 kBit/s, with the frame rate limitation, it goes back to 1486 kBit/s
.\ffmpeg.exe -i "broken.mp4" -vf setpts=N/FRAME_RATE/TB "fixed.mp4" did the whole trick for me. Although I have no idea what setting the presentation timestamps does... but some related question had the setpts option, I tried it, it worked, then I tried removing the other option, and it still worked, so I'll go with that, now ^^
well accounts across servers do already interoperate using the identity provider, but there is something to do with security that doesn't make sense to be able to login to another server than the one you registered on
but yeah, the matrix.org homeserver is (1) overloaded and (2) comprised of a round robin of a bunch of different hosts, all of which are pretty overloaded, poorly optimized, and you probably connected to a random far away country like The Moon or Neptune
I love how the older generation is always like "why do I need 2 copies of X on my machine?" when they get distributions and realize that "eclipse for X" is duplicating files with "eclipse for Y", or Atom shares most of the same code with Chrome
TL;DR:
With so many platforms that provide chat rooms for people that can be made private, why do people persist in complaining about the code of conduct set for this network?
This post is for anyone using or interested in using these sites. Whether they actively participate or passively sear...
I really like that question because it invited me (and Geek before me) to express ideas about our theories of how our room, here and in Matrix, works and should work.
Turkish internet law (5651) bans content that 1) drives people to suicide 2) includes/is child sexual abuse 3) makes it easier to use drugs 4) helps obtaining stuff that have health risks 5) is lewd 6) is prostitution 7) provides place and ability to gamble 8) insults Ataturk
I live with my parents. My father likes to challenge nearly everything I say, up to the point of ridiculousness. I can prove many of the things he challenges but not immediately. In most cases his disagreements with my comments are off-topic. They seem to stem from a psychological need to be righ...
@djsmiley2k That doesn't make it a bad question. It's always harder to recognise behaviour within yourself that is easy to spot in others. Most people don't like looking in the mirror as it shows you warts and all ;)
What annoys me is the number of HNQs on IPS which starves other more deserving sites of attention ...
@djsmiley2k Tbh, they both have mental disorders that are most likely caused by the way the former treating the latter. This isn't an issue of IPS, it's an issue of both of them need psychotherapy. Serious, intensive psychotherapy. Or just get out of the situation (easier said than done for some people).
Source: Spent the last five years trying to seek treatment for exactly this mental disorder caused by my parents being abusive in exactly that manner.
Problem? She's 25. The older you get the harder it becomes to reverse the neurological hardwiring caused by parental abuse inappropriate parental feedback. You can get lasting and successful treatment up to maybe about the age of 19. After that 'yer fucked'
Problem is, these maladaptive behaviours are the result of conflict between our genetic evolution and the huge, sudden change in lifestyle caused by modern society, so ultimately, everyone is broken because we haven't, and are incapable of evolving to deal with that sort of societal change.
Anyway, doing the psychologist version of IANAL, I did study psychology at university for a few years and spent a lot of time since then also studying exactly these sorts of issues because they be fucking up every moment of my life. Unfortunately the conclusion I've come to is, since we're all fucked, the best treatment is suicide. And that's half of why I'm "depressed".
@djsmiley2k There's no winning when human society, genetics, and brain structure are all irreparably unalterably dissonant and there's like maybe 3 people on the planet with the right mindset to actually successfully drive positive change.
@djsmiley2k To be fair, if she's intelligent enough to have posted this on a SE QA site, she may have the mental capacity required to override the broken subconscious miswiring with conscious reasoning and adaptations. But that requires going down a long windy path that apparently she's not aware of the existence of yet.
@djsmiley2k This is why I use abuse drugs on a daily basis.
Pharmacologically shrink my worldview into "this room and nothing beyond what's in it"
There's an alternative school of thought in psychology that depression in intelligent people isn't depression, it's the realistic, accurate, intelectual recognition that, put bluntly, everything is fucked and you can't do anything about it
Because in actual, traditional psychology, it's widely recognised that in order to function in modern society, one has to be actually delusional and, put bluntly, too stupid to realise how stupid they are.
I'm physically small, anxiety prone, unable to rapidly analyze or make quick decisions, and therefore rather disadvantaged in terms of running away when the police turn up. That's pretty much literally the only reason I've not turned into a raving loony mindless killing machine.
Occasionally, one user's Excel spreadsheet will have '- KillMeNowExcel' instead of the standard '- Excel' in the title. This is on an HP Laptop running Windows 7 64-bit with Office 2013. Any idea why this is happening?
I'm 6'2, anxiety prone, constantly overanaylising the situation and all the possible outcomes to the point that often, I'll talk to someone and have the whole convo planned out in various ways before they have even started talking.
I'm literally what used to be referred to as a psychopath and a sociopath, problem is, nobody bothers researching effective treatments for psychopaths because most psychopaths either don't know they are one, or don't want to be treated. I think only about 2% actually actively seek treatment, only to find, it basically doesn't exist.
Therefore, back to the everything is fucked and you can't do anything about it
Did you know psychopathic and sociopathic traits are actually more common among high ranking CEOs and politicians than the prison population?
The fact that society actively reinforces and elevates the psychopathic and sociopathic traits and pushes those people into power again brings us back to everything is fucked and you can't do anything about it
@DavidPostill I don't have a citation for CEO > prison, but business elader > general population psycho/sociopathy is quite broadly understood
@ADHDCat I think that might be backwards- people get into positions of power because they have traits which are beneficial to getting to positions of power
(despite societal constructs which say, broadly, it's not okay to screw someone over)
Though it's easy to see the converse too, I'll admit
this isn't the actual source I read about it on but the closest I could find using my phone while on the toilet. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/australasia/psychopaths-ceos-study-statistics-one-in-five-psychopathic-traits-a7251251.html
@ADHDCat I think I'm IQ67 up to 1 meter of water resistant under 2 minutes
anyway guys if your therapist isn't working for you, remember they're not all equal and you might have much better (or much worse) luck with another one, so keep trying until you figure out yourself and your problems
something something if you keep working on it it'll work out, but if you don't, it won't
@Hakase there's a major systematic problem with the mental health system in the NHS which basically means I've given up trying to seek treatment there. Instead, I'm trying to wrangle enough money to look at more appropriate private therapists.
It literally took a year of referrals and assessments for them to say "yeah you probably have <insert class of disorders I said I had> but you'll need to see a specialist psychologist for a firm diagnosis.". Then after another year on a waiting list for a psychologist I got "Yeah probably, but we can't treat you right now."
The presence of psychopathy in the workplace, although psychopaths typically represent a relatively small percentage of the staff, can do enormous damage when in senior management roles. Psychopaths are usually most common at higher levels of corporate organizations and their actions often cause a ripple effect throughout an organization, setting the tone for an entire corporate culture. Examples of detrimental effects are increased bullying, conflict, stress, staff turnover and absenteeism; reduction in productivity and in social responsibility. Ethical standards of entire organisations can be...
uhh it was supposed to be some "nicer" alternative to reddit
but it looked more like imgur with its layout
its thing was supposed to be the ability to pay the users for their posts by effectively "patreoning" them periodically for a set sum
something happened, it didn't fly
and the domain is now used by some company which owns different sites themed for different topics and products which have different domain names, but all share that imzy design template
> where creators can build a community and get paid
:/
idk where the paying aspect comes in but from what I've just seen on some of their sites, there's not much content and all topics are boring and have too few interesting comments
with how bad it looks it might be manually filled out by some fake user account handlers to create an illusion of some active users base on these sites
eh
if reddit dies, idk where I'll go
tempted to say "nowhere probably" but I know myself :p
and just something to think about
lately I catch myself thinking: "why am I obsessing over something that has no impact on my life?" and I close some tabs and feel better for a while :p
> Psychopathy, sometimes considered synonymous with sociopathy, is traditionally defined as a personality disorder characterized by persistent antisocial behavior, impaired empathy and remorse, and bold, disinhibited, and egotistical traits.
I'd say child abusers fall under at least one of those traits.
anyway, I find that reading a bunch of askreddit threads where people list the ways they're unsuccessful or depressed or sad or unhappy about things in life helps me realize that first of all I'm not alone with my own experiences and feelings, and also I could gather info on how other people deal with it and figure out my own ways, or just realize I don't have it as bad as I thought, and it calms me down
