wonder what the format was for all those magnetic tapes
look at this
I thought these were new and cool in 1998
turns out they started making them closer to 1970
but that dude was taking out the single reel ones, with wide tape

Analog.

12:19 AM
yea, I meant the quality specs

12:34 AM
ah
cause I tried to fix a tape recorder, switched the belts...
and it sounds super super super fast.

I had an issue on my arch setup and I had to boot to a live OS to fix it... I used trisquel... and it worked perfectly, which is surprising.

My windows 7 laptop keyboard is not detected on remote mac?

Oh that guy ;p

user226528
4:50 AM
This guy has been doing this since I came to SU and I twice complained about it on Meta.

user226528
I remember you told me to assume good faith but this is clearly getting out of hand.

5:18 AM
Saying someone is on drugs is not cool.
shrug
Flag and move on.

user226528
You do that all the times.

user226528
Flag for what?

shrug
If you're not happy with a comment, you flag the comments
not make acccusations like that in a public space.

I'm on drugs and I'm cool.

user226528
Translation: Shut up and be harassed?

5:19 AM
Also, please do not say someone else is on drugs.

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Then lead by example.

@FleetCommand no, deal with it appropriately, through proper channels
@FleetCommand who exactly have I accused of being on drugs?

Someone else is on drugs.

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Me

Evidence please?

user226528
5:20 AM
Hold on while I search the record.

Cause I do think we've had conversations about what I feel is your tendancy to gaslight folks.

@JourneymanGeek If that was directed at me I recommend you Google "Drug consumption statistics"

and if you're going to keep making accusations like this, and not backing it up, I'm not going to be happy
@ADHDCat If you're on drugs, its fine to say you are in many cases.
Using so as an accusatory or even compansatory thing about someone's behaviour is not cool

Oh, FleetCommand has accused people of being on drugs

er... actually, he just did

5:22 AM
le sigh

and I'm not happy about it

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Why can I not see more than 39 chat search results?

donno
here
let me help
this is every time I have said "on drugs" on chat

user226528
Thanks.

Go away spammer. You are drunk. Or on drugs. Or posting using baysian algorithms. While drunk, and on drugs, AND abstract mathematics. — Journeyman Geek 11 secs ago

ah
Do you even remember the context?

user226528
There was a context too? The message is quite clear: You are calling me a spammer who is drunk or on drugs.

Bob
...what?

Its a quote

Bob
5:26 AM

May 29 at 12:01, by Journeyman Geek
I got bored and decided to history-chat-stalk myself

If only you knew what I was...
WAIT, I'M a MOD! I SEE IT ALL!
@FleetCommand I'm mildly concerned that you think I'm insulting you, when I'm talking about a spammer.

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Huh? You weren't?

Now that we have cleared up what was obviously a misunderstanding...

user226528
Actually, I didn't come here to complain about you today, so yes, we are cool.

I've consistantly told folks not to do that.

user226528
5:29 AM
And that pro tip you gave me the other day about Windows ISO was extra cool.

Any form of personal attack is unwelcome, and if I actually do do that, you guys are free to yell at me, or tell on me to the CM team.
we cool?
(also in context, I'd find being called a spammer, or being on abstract mathematics far more offensive)

user226528
Okay... awkward question: I am assuming good faith right now but I am wondering what this is:

May 16 at 0:42, by Journeyman Geek
@TMLCat Stop being off your head on drugs :(

user226528
It is a joke, right?

@FleetCommand oh he was quite literally talking about having blackouts

user226528
5:31 AM
Thanks God. Another matter cleared.

May 16 at 0:20, by TML Cat
I don't remember a thing about yesterday
You really need to read a few lines up. I'm notorious for not using replies.

user226528
Yeah. I am reading the search results you sent me and I dare say people who are dead set on assuming good faith must read a hell of a lotta lines there.

I'm roughly the worst person not to assume good faith about ;)

user226528
But back to our discussion.

user226528
There is no flag for a comment that introduces abhorrent technical inaccuracy. Especially, there is no flag that reverts the downvote.

5:35 AM
"no longer needed"
or something like that
he's free to vote as he likes
I can't undo that
or you could go "Hey, maybe you misread - I did answer for 2003 instead of 2013"
hell, I'd comment for you but you didn't link the comment

user226528
A -2 point isn't something that I'd complain about. Are you paying attention to the context?

I'm all about lighting candles rather than cursing the dark
If you flag the comment I go "hmm, actually!" then probably talk to ramhound about it, maybe with another comment
then he'd flag me back for an obsolete comment and I go "k"

user226528
He has been doing this since when I had 1 rep. I am concerned that may have wronged him before coming to this site... or worst, he is a systematic harasser, the same person responsible for this blog post having come to being.

and I go on with whatever it is I do on days off work. Chatting I suppose

7:01 AM
I remember Chrome's context menu had characters underlined for shortcut keys. Currently there are no longer underlined characters. I don't know shortcut keys now.

erm
it says what the short cuts are to the right

Ooops. Then not those shortcut keys.
I used to right click and tap a key on a keyboard.
For Copy it was right-click + C
It is now too but I want to know how to open in a new tab for example.
Or new window.
There.
How to copy link address?

It seems that Windows 10 is missing them generally

try rightclick e

Bob
Those are access keys
@ADHDCat nah, they're there

7:06 AM
@JourneymanGeek To serve humanity.

Bob
you generally only see them if you opened the menu by hitting alt

@JourneymanGeek Works! How you found out?

Bob
works on firefox, works on windows explorer
doesn't work on chrome cause alt doesn't do anything on chrome

@Boris_yo I run a chrome fork that's apparently lagging XD

Bob
congrats, google, you broke 30 years of UI conventions

7:07 AM
@Bob For drop down menus, yeah. But not in right click menus

Bob
@ADHDCat hmmm, that might be a side effect of not showing them by default
@ADHDCat btw, ordered a S9+

Actually I think something might be broken in my specific install

Bob
which can either go very right or very wrong

@JourneymanGeek Chrome Fork? A fork plated with chromium?

7:09 AM
basically another browser with chrome as a base

And you run it through keyboard?

Bob
@Boris_yo more like a chromium fork plated with something else

naw, but it still shows the keyboard shortcuts
my workflow is kinda unique to me

Bob
I would also suggest not running a fork through your keyboard
though it probably won't do much to most mechs

/me wibbles

work disabled the ms office previewer in outlook, because of some virus trouble (fine, i can understand that)

cept.... it's just caused outlook to go beserk.

Heh. I ran keyboard with vacuum cleaner and it sucked some keys in. I went to HP support and they replaced keyboard.

^ . ^ JUst remembering it makes me chuckle.

See in my case it does show the underlines if I hold down Alt while opening the menu or press Alt while the menu is open. Except pressing Alt also closes all menus when I press it.

@djsmiley2k joy

@JourneymanGeek yup

7:11 AM
So it shows the access key underlines for about 1-2 frames before the menu disappears.
So it's there, and pressing the button to show them works, but that button also hides them.

morning

user226528
This feature has been part of Windows since Windows 3.1. But starting with Windows XP, Microsoft decided to hide them by default.

user226528
7:28 AM
I remember developers trying to add, say "Search & replace" to their menus, only to end up getting "Search replace", with the second space being underlined.

user226528
Now, "&Search and replace" produced "Search and replace" with "S" underlined.

This cheeky fellow of mine has a designed script that at one point stops, gives some instruction and says "Press the Space Bar to continue...".

thats one way to alienate your users

user226528
LOL. I bet that's the purpose.

user226528
10:45 AM
DavidPostill certainly thought it was insulting.

user226528
Of course, now that I am re-reading David's message, it appears he didn't notice the script required "Space Bar".

it is the admonishing your users bit that is bad

user226528
Not my users. Believe me, if this guy did that to my user, I'd need a new pair of shoes because there is no way I wear the one with which I kicked his ass.

user226528
Now that I think about, I don't think that script was meant for any form of distribution or use by non-admins... Funny...

you should design your interface in a way that doesn't even allow them to try doing something wrong

user226528
I'd really love to see my boss dead.

user226528
Well, maybe I didn't mean that literally but you get my point.

calls the police
have you seen horrible bosses?

i quite like my boss

11:21 AM
mine is ok too

user226528
I've seen a horrible boss. Not plural.

Horrible Bosses is a 2011 American black comedy film directed by Seth Gordon, written by Michael Markowitz, John Francis Daley, and Jonathan Goldstein, based on a story by Markowitz. It stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey, and Jamie Foxx. The plot follows three friends, played by Bateman, Day, and Sudeikis, who decide to murder their respective overbearing, abusive bosses, portrayed by Spacey, Aniston, and Farrell. Markowitz's script was bought by New Line Cinema in 2005 and the film spent six years in various states of pre-production...

user226528
Well, I certainly don't plan on murdering him. Murder is a sin. That's it for me. But when he eats one of those doughnuts, I can't help but imagine him clutching at his own chest and then dropping... you know.

user226528
In fact, I definitely know I won't do anything. For years, he shouted at everybody and acted as if anyone who disobeys him would be punched flat into the wall. Yesterday, I discovered that due to his age, he cannot beat anyone... or even bend. He is a harmless giant.

user226528
And everyone knows this. Nobody is respecting him out of fear. It's mercy respect.

user226528
11:26 AM
Like everyone is being the bigger guy... but me.

12:02 PM
@FleetCommand I can understand like 75% of that onebox. I don't speak French.
My boss is quite nice
In fact, every boss I've ever had ranged from "OK" to "really nice"
I always say that, somewhere, there's an awful boss waiting for me to counteract and balance all the years of nice bosses

12:30 PM
My first boss told me on my first day of work that I wasn't really their top choice but the other guys wanted more money/declined. Well, she wasn't my boss for long.
But what the hell is happening here. Just scrolling back a bit and skipping lines it's about odd bosses, strange scripts and feminists breastfeeding?

@Seth 'Tis a strange place.

Yes I know but sometimes...

ok seriously
The world is just weird. Trump actually seems to be making progress with NK o_O

@Burgi no
they're both staying in somewhat smaller, posher city hotels
