12:32 AM
@ThatBrazilianGuy I think big clive calls em suicide showers

@JourneymanGeek bonus bigclive points: plug your suicide shower into a deathdapter

1:15 AM
@ThatBrazilianGuy How common are water heaters that use a small tank at the top of the shower and are wired in at least a somewhat safe fashion (e.g. behind the wall or attached to the wall with proper insulation and covered so that they cannot easily be damaged)?

Anyone ever run into an issue with a laptop where you need to hold the middle mouse button on the trackpad for it to work?

1:36 AM
@bwDraco those are boring :p

2:02 AM
@MichaelFrank sounds like a driver or hardware issue
also, trackpads shouldn't have buttons anymore
there is no trackpad that comes remotely close to being as good as the current gen Macbook Pro touchpad

Issue: Using a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.10, I discovered that the touchpad did not work. Steps to reproduce: Install Ubuntu 14.10 on a Fujitsu H730 and attempt to use the touchpad. Further description: Due to the comments in bug #1300427 I've tested the mainline kernel version 3.17-rc5-utopic, and the only impact I recall was how the right-click button now also worked while pressing middle-click on the touchpad. WORKAROUND: Remove and load psmouse with proto=exps. After this, a bit further in time, I accidentally managed to click with the touchpad. It appears that the touchpad strangely enough works quite well as long as I hold down the middle click button. While holding it down, the touchpad seems to work rather well - including multitouch features. The joy is short, as it registers no input while depressed. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: linux-image-3.13.0-35-generic 3.13.0-35.62 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-35.62-generic 3.13.11.6 Uname: Linux

Low / Triaged
I'm not the first person to have the problem.
But that bug report doesn't actually have a solution
@allquixotic Yea, I do remember really liking the trackpad on my old MBP.

2:20 AM
@JourneymanGeek I don't know what a big clive is.

Lmgfy...

YouTube Electrical Engineer "Big Clive"

lol so he's basically the british AvE?

@JourneymanGeek It is literally the same shower I use at home, with a different label.
By the waym the word "ducha" in the label is a Portuguese word for shower.

2:28 AM
@ThatBrazilianGuy @_@

> I would say about 95% of showers in Brazil works like this one. I have two myself at my home, and they are pretty safe

man, you need to be careful with that, especially if it's not protected by a GFI

What's a GFI (non-ironical question)
> If you do find one of these in your travels then be very aware that there are often badly insulated mains voltage connections in the vicinity of the unit, possibly right next to a metal tap. Some have an earthing/grounding facility, but this may not be attached, or if it is it may not be electrically intact.
Grounding. Brazilian buildings. Pick one.

A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI), or Residual Current Device (RCD) is a circuit breaker. This device reduces the risk of electric shock. It shuts off an electric power circuit when it detects that current is flowing in a way it is not meant to, such as through water or a person. Electric shock may cause the heart to stop or cause burns. The device can also prevent some fires, for example, those caused when a live wire touches a metal conduit. == How it works == A GFCI device uses Kirchhoff's current law. This law states that everywhere on an electrical circuit that is in series, ...
we usually say GFI here but electricians call them GFCI or RCD

> The only safe way to use these is to either ascertain if they have been installed safely or use them to fill a bucket with warm water and then wash yourself down with that. These things are truly worthy of the title deathtrap.
O_o

2:30 AM
if you got shocked by a "suicide shower" that was ocnnected to a GFCI/RCD, you would only momentarily feel the shock of the full power of your mains current -- for a very short time -- and it would hurt, but you'd survive

Well I've been using those for more than three decades (two decades in this very apartment) and havent died even once.

without a RCD you'd continuously get shocked, which is fatal

Does one of those count?
I have a triple switch panel of those ----^
One for the shower, one for the A/C, and one for the rest of the house

not sure what that is

Breaker, by the looks.

2:32 AM
> It shuts off an electric power circuit when it detects that current is flowing in a way it is not meant to, such as through water or a person.
Hm, probably not the same thing.
What I posted are... hm... circuit breakers? They cut the power when there are power peaks.

circuit breakers aren't the same... although, if your electric shower head is properly grounded, it's nearly the same, as the electricity will cut off as soon as the electricity flows through your body and completes the circuit with ground

4 mins ago, by That Brazilian Guy
Grounding. Brazilian buildings. Pick one.

the GFCI is a bit safer because it will detect a "return" current coming back and in a VERY short time, cut off

I hadn't even heard of GFCIs until now, don't think they are sold here, and don't think the kind of electricians the average person in Brazil can afford do know how to install one.

2:37 AM
> I'm not sure if this particular unit would be usable with an RCD or GFCI since there is a short water-filled path between bare live metalwork and a strategically placed earth wire.
> There is a green wire on the shower heads but no grounding wire in the walls and the conduits are usually plastic so they wouldn’t help anyway.
Yeah, pretty much.
> I live in Brazil where these shower heads are very common. Something also very common is poor electrical wiring in the houses and apartments.

I love how many of the answers assume that there's a GFCI or grounding and that it's therefore safe
those answerers must not live in Brazil

> The real risk with a tankless electric water heater is the risk to your wallet. These heaters usually require you to upgrade your incoming electrical service before they can be installed and once that's done you'll find nothing but heartbreak in the mailbox when the electric bill arrives every month.

Here in the US, code requires that a GFCI be installed for any socket that's near water.

@bwDraco American code
(and most other developed nations)

> nothing but heartbreak in the mailbox when the electric bill arrives every month.

2:40 AM
Safety standards are very different elsewhere; Brazil being a rather poor country does not help.

As the owner of one of those and an A/C, I wholeheartedly agree.

Poor electrical supply?
Why is electricity expensive where you live?

> You don’t need a big current to cause damages. You could already have arrythmia if you’re shocked at 75 mA, which is way less than the current needed to heat up the water.

Protectionism, supply constraints, etc.?

Great, you guys are making me uneasy about something I've lived decades with no issue +_+'
> Only a system that was badly installed can be dangerous.

Except for a gas heater installed inside the bathroom. That can kill you by accumulation of CO.

2:44 AM
@ThatBrazilianGuy thing is, the safety risk might be high by the standards of a developed nation, but it's probably still a 1-in-a-million risk
we tend to design our home appliances and such so the safety risks are like, 1 in 10 trillion, and you might be 100x or 1000x more risky but still relatively remote
otherwise you'd know 6 people who died to suicide showers

@bwDraco It's a complex question that I don't know the answer to.

@bwDraco Brazil's corruption is pretty legendary, and it's done in a way that hurts public welfare, infrastructure, and that sort of thing
American corruption by contrast makes the rich richer and the poor slowly poorer but somehow they manage to maintain good safety regulations where it matters
of course, not all of our appliances have to be grounded - most of the stuff I deal with on a regular basis isn't grounded... laptop adapters, wall warts, etc. are not grounded
I think my TV and my desktop PC are grounded

!!/wiki Double insulation

In the electrical appliance manufacturing industry, the following IEC protection classes are defined in IEC 61140 and used to differentiate between the protective-earth connection requirements of devices. These appliances must have their chassis connected to electrical earth. == Class 0 == These appliances have no protective-earth connection and feature only a single level of insulation between live parts and exposed metalwork. If permitted at all, Class 0 items are intended for use in dry areas only. A single fault could cause an electric shock or other dangerous occurrence, without triggering...

@bwDraco I'm not sure if I understood your question. By my experience, between 80 ~ 90% of shower water is heated by showers like the one in the video, usually installed in a more "clean" way, at least visually, but grounding isn't that common unless you live in upper class condos and the like.
then there's natural gas heaters like this one:

2:49 AM
it's interesting how ROW (rest of the world) tends to have very localized systems, but in the US, most everything appliancey is centralized

we have a "utility room" in our house that contains our washing machine, dryer, circuit breakers, natural gas water heater, and in the adjacent hallway, our central heat and air conditioning

@allquixotic Tankless water heaters are becoming increasingly common in the US.
Especially due to recent (2015) regulations that put impose strict standards on storage water heater insulation, resulting in larger water heaters for a given capacity.

The one I posted usually heats only one shower and is located either inside the bathroom besides the shower (more commonly) or in the service area besides the kitchen
This is I'm guessing maybe 10% of the houses
And then there are boiler heaters that are big tanks that hold hot water for long periods.
These are the less common kind. I think I can count on my fingers how many times I've seen those.

@ThatBrazilianGuy These are common in the US but are gradually being replaced by tankless units, as mentioned above.

2:53 AM
As someone who once very nearly died of natural poisoning as a kid, I'm a bit wary of natural gas heaters.
Damn, I'm wary of my kitchen stove.
My wife thinks it's silly of me and refuses to close the safety lever every night. =/

Tankless or on-demand water heaters produce hot water by heating it as it flows through the pipes. They tend to be more expensive and can only supply hot water at a limited maximum rate, but if sized correctly, can provide hot water continuously; you don't have a tank that can run out of hot water. Tankless water heaters are more efficient and more reliable as well.

@ThatBrazilianGuy Don't they put a bitterant agent in your natural gas so if you smell unexploded natural gas it makes it obvious that you're in a cloud of it and need to evacuate?
Methanethiol (also known as methyl mercaptan) is an organosulfur compound with the chemical formula CH3SH. It is a colorless gas with a distinctive putrid smell. It is a natural substance found in the blood and brain of humans and animals, as well as in plant tissues. It is disposed of through animal feces. It also occurs naturally in certain foods, such as some nuts and cheese. It is one of the main compounds responsible for bad breath and the smell of flatus. Methanethiol is classified as a thiol and is sometimes abbreviated as MeSH. It is very flammable. == Structure and reactions == ...
they put trace amounts of that in our natural gas because pure natural gas is odorless

@allquixotic Yes, they do. But if it is leaking a very, very small amount from the kitchen overnight for hours and you're sleeping two rooms from it... You get the picture.
I woke up and felt really dizzy and let's say I was lucky to wake up at all.

No one die and we all went to the hospital and were breathing oxygen from a hose for a couple hours and nothing worse happened, for pure luck.
It was 25 years ago, IIRC.

2:59 AM
@allquixotic (@ThatBrazilianGuy) Had a natural gas leak in the first floor at one point. Called the gas company, and a technician identified and shut off the valve closest to the leak. Turned out the gas line for the dryer was worn out and got damaged during routine use; all was good when Father replaced the connector.
We've had more than one gas leak scare.

@allquixotic Are you rhetorically asking or they don't do that on the US and you don't know how it smells like?
It's not a really strong or bitter or bad smell. In fact, if you're sleeping you can totally miss it.
Also I didn't know it was artificially added and at some point they almost stopped adding it. Which is completely, totally, and utterly stupid, stupid, stupid.

In my experience, it's pretty obvious even with a small trace leak.

I have a sense of smell that ranges from somewhat bad to flu-like to this-nose-is-just-for-display
All this talk is reminding me that I want to research how much does a gas alarm costs.
Better slightly, moderately paranoid than dead.

3:30 AM
@ThatBrazilianGuy they do that here
@ThatBrazilianGuy wow

@ThatBrazilianGuy That's cause you don't smell anything at all when you're sleeping though, right?

4:14 AM
@MichaelFrank with more electronics, and less cussing
he's a bit more of a blue collar, working class Dave
@allquixotic Its probably cause of $$$
Americans typically buy/build a home at once, with all the amenities in it
in a lot of places homes are smaller, share resources or have things added organically

Yeah, I always thought dinosaurs steam their food before eating them.

6:12 AM
le sigh
Found traces of decay in my teeth; some permanent damage has occurred, but it does not look like the tooth is coming apart.
I'll be brushing aggressively to stabilize the teeth.

No, brush them thoroughly, but not forcefully. You'll wear away the enamel otherwise.
A soft brush is best.

Well, that's what I meant.
A few pinhole cavities were found, but the integrity of the tooth isn't quite in jeopardy.

user226528
What should one do if the tooth shatters?

Yes, I use soft brushes.

user226528
I imagine boxers must occasionally experience a total tooth break.

6:19 AM
@FleetCommand, can you not interject uselessly? You're derailing the discussion.

is there a discussion?

@FleetCommand Have it removed probably.

user226528
@JourneymanGeek At least I didn't think so.

Broken teeth normally aren't able to be rescued.

6:22 AM
though, while I'm terrible at it... I kinda suspect that a dentist probably could advise during a routine check...
which is something I've not had done in far too long.

user226528
@MichaelFrank What after that? One cannot remove, say, both molars without somehow either replacing them or eating soup for the rest of the life.

There's apparently some new fangled toothpaste that fixes that thing

user226528
@JourneymanGeek Ditto

@FleetCommand fake teeth!

user226528
Are you referring to "false teeth" also known as "dentures"? I always assumed they are for full teeth loss.

6:24 AM
naw
there's partial ones too
implants or bridges.

user226528
Thanks.

@bwDraco ya. if its tiny, there's actually toothpastes that... actually rebuild the dentine
Might be worth looking at if its concerning. Why clean when you can magic rebuild stuff with witchcraft science?

user226528
Alright, if the discussion is over and I am not at the risk of derailing anything ...

shrug It does happen, but we have ways to deal with that ;p

The enamel is mostly intact FWIW. It may have reached the dentine, but AFAICT, it would only be a pinhole. Again, it does't look like the tooth will fall apart if treated.

user226528
6:28 AM
Windows image maintenance could be tedious. I thought of doing it overnight but, out of having no experience, used NTLite.

(also, I don't actually think anyone here knows anything about dentistry, even in terms of ... percussive, non voluntary, dental extraction)

user226528
The problem is: NTLite encountered a minor problem and stopped, displaying a prompt. So, the next thing I saw in the morning was a job not done.

@FleetCommand like for a "golden" image?

user226528
No. Deployment image. Golden image is Microsoft business. Also, think it is called "gold image".

user226528
Deployment image is normally created with DISM.

6:31 AM
ah that

user226528
Now, NTLite is GUI, while DISM is CLI. So, I went for NTLite and even wanted to purchase a license too, so that I can use commercially.

user226528
So, from now on, I'll do anything Enterprise with Microsoft deployment tools. A bit more CLI but they know what they are doing.

user226528
But for home, I guess NTLite is harmless and the free version is ... enough.

Raj
6:42 AM
Silence ?

user226528
Yes, silence. If you wish to start a new discussion, now is the time.

Q: Fujitsu Celcius H730 touchpad won't work unless middle button is held

Michael FrankI have recently installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (with all updates installed) on my Fujitsu Celcius H730 laptop. Currently I'm running into an issue very similar to this one on Launchpad. The touchpad (and mouse buttons) don't respond to any input unless I am also holding down the middle-mouse button....

user226528
Ubuntu is not my area of expertise.

6:59 AM
hmm
@MichaelFrank does it work correctly on windows ?
also install xev - might be handy in working out if the keys are detected and how they are

1 hour later…
8:07 AM
@bwDraco Go see your dentist and/or hygienist. That's what they are for. The dentist will check your teeth. The hygienist will check your brushing technique - they can tell by the plaque on your teeth and the state of your gums whether you are brushing correctly. I see mine every 6 months for a checkup.
Pro tip: Swap hands each time you brush your teeth. If you always use the same hand then your brushing technique might miss spots. When you swap hands you brush your teeth from a different angle ...
2

user226528
Thanks for the pro tip! :) I'll do.

user226528
I will also swap hands while brushing my hair because I often do notice having missed spots that need to be combed or brushed.

user226528
Maybe I'll even swap hands while combing my mustache or shaving them.

@FleetCommand Swapping while shaving is more risky if you are shaving with a blade as your non-dominant hand is probably less suited to accuracy - especially when controlling it via a mirror image :)

8:27 AM
if i try light the oven, and it doesn'g light
then you can smel it immediately

Also checked again - probably a false alarm. The spots look more like embedded dirt than actual decay, and there's none of the softness associated with decay if I poke it with a needle.
Will check again later.
It's very small black spots. Some of it might have gone away with time.

@JourneymanGeek well, lets see, I had 4 teeth removed as a kid due to over crowding, then 4 wisdom teeth removed, 2 which had shattered, the others were inpacted and I ended up in hospital, plus some 'large scale' decay due to various drugs i was on in my teens....

I'll be watching my teeth very closely going forward.

....
@djsmiley2k I'm so sorry :(

@bwDraco I...
don't poke your teeth with a needle
srsly just don't.

8:31 AM
but I meant in terms of being a dentist. You're an expert dentist in the same way a person who has gone in and out of prison is an expert at law.

@JourneymanGeek I've had 13-15 fillings, but yes ;)
i'm not an expert, just someone who's had a lot (and varied) treatments
pro-tip: I still drink lots of fizzy drinks, but as long as I brush properly I've never had anymore issues

hah
I stopped drinking fizzy drinks as much
just lost the taste for em

not having drugs that dry my gums out also helps.

I suppose

8:48 AM
Oh, and by the way, CO is more dangerous than natural gas ... and cannot be smelled.
> Unsafe gas appliances can produce a highly poisonous gas called carbon monoxide (CO). It can cause death as well as serious long term health problems such as brain damage.

CO is produced by the incomplete burning of natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This happens when a gas appliance has been incorrectly fitted, badly repaired or poorly maintained. It can also occur if flues, chimneys or vents are blocked.

Oil and solid fuels such as coal, wood, petrol and oil can also produce carbon monoxide.
In the UK we are encouraged to fit CO detector alarms in addition to smoke detectors.

I'll just watch it closely at this point. If there is decay, it looks like I caught it fairly early.

@bwDraco Go see your dentist to be safe.

dentists are the experts

my mouth was like a warzone
now it's mostly rebuilt.

Yeah. I'll need to see someone on this.

9:26 AM
@DavidPostill Shaving blade? 😱 That's an instrument of death from dark ages. I shave like civilized people.

user226528
(I'm exaggerating about the "instrument of death" part but shaving with a blade is still a thing of the past.)

Ave
there are people who still use those
I'm considering switching to them tbh

user226528
@Ave O.o

Ave
regular shaving equipment are just designed to remove the hair, not the shadow.

user226528
@Ave I have feeling you are not talking about a mustache or beard.

user226528
9:30 AM
And quite frankly, nothing else is worth shaving.

Ave
@FleetCommand I am
when you shave there's still some darkness left on your face, it's sort of visible that you had facial hair but just shaved it

user226528
But you can't possibly have any of those, unless you have change significantly since the photo you posted here.

Ave
I don't but I need to shave my face every couple weeks or so just in case

user226528
Huh. Alright, if you don't want to enlighten me, don't. Moving on.

Ave
also uh
rest of the body is worth shaving too.
I guess some could argue that it's a matter of personal preference and I'd agree

user226528
9:33 AM
Only if you are a scarlet-collar.

user226528
Nobody sees the rest of my body, so it might as well be made of adamantium.

user226528
Or viberanium.

Ave
you're forgetting that I have partners, though it's accurate that they don't see the rest of my body, due to legal reasons.

user226528
Whatever. Shaving blade is something for the dark ages, not the civilized world. There are always safer and more efficient tools.

user226528
I hear there are hair shampoos that if, added to a bath, can turn King Kong into a giant baby.

Ave
9:37 AM
dunno if those are healthy
or cheap enough to use regularly

user226528
Check FDA certificate.

heh. I mow my face every so often ;p

user226528
LOL. Emphasis on "mow". ;)

My beard is somewhat mighty and messy. So yes, Mow. I use a clipper. Maybe 2 weeks a year I dig out my electric shaver cause the military insists I be clean shaven
@Ave or get rid of the hair permanantlike once...
I know a friend who did that

Ave
full body laser?
I want to try that, but it's not cheap.

9:43 AM
Face and I THINK electrolysis...

Ave
ah
yeah electro's more permanent
but it's not cheap and not painless

she was a little too excited it involved lasers. Didn't quite want to break it to her that electrolysis did not involve lasers

user226528
Uh oh. Looks like I am listening to advice from a dark dystopian future when a nuclear holocaust has sent mankind back to dark ages. ;)

@JourneymanGeek It works fine under Windows
I can't see the device under lshw though. :S
But that might not report it anyway.

ah
naw, not lshw
we know its there
xev will tell you what to OS is picking up

9:47 AM
@FleetCommand Not for a lot of people. Even a safety razor contains a blade and can cut you. Note: a safety razor gives a much closer shave than an electric razor.

heh. I get an itch with those

@JourneymanGeek Immediately or a few days later?

@DavidPostill pretty quick

@FleetCommand This is really not true. I used to get so much razor burn when I shaved with a cartridge razor. Now that I use a single bladed razor, I hardly get it ever.

@JourneymanGeek Then you should use a shaving gel designed for sensitive skin :)

9:49 AM
Electric razors are literally close enough for government work ;p

user226528
I used to have an ample beard, and when people asked me why, I told them I wanted to look like Alexander Graham Bell. That would shut most the Brits up. Until one day, I ran into a non-Brit. He said "Congratulations. You managed to look like Bin Laden." And that was it.

I'm lazy. I just use clippers every 4 weeks for my beard, mustache and what little is left of my hair. Takes a couple of minutes and saves the 5 minutes of so required every day for a close shave. When it's really hot I do shave every day ...

user226528
You starred it but people can't read the punchline. ;)

I would look like Father Christmas if I was to let my beard grow for like 6 months :)

@DavidPostill This is pretty much what I do

user226528
9:53 AM
Bravo!

ditto
only I do it when it gets uncomfortable

Yeah, that's about a month for me. After a month my mustache is in my mouth when I eat, and my face starts to itch under my beard :/

user226528
I leave it just a little taller than a stub. Everyone tell me I look very royal with a very short beard. Of course, it is difficult to maintain it.

I just chop that down with a pair of scissors sometimes

9:57 AM
@FleetCommand If I could pull off that 'light beard' look, I'd totally go for it.

@Ave fire isd permanent

@JourneymanGeek Somehow I just can't imagine a JMG with a beard ;)

It just doesn't work for me though :( My hair is not thick enough.

@DavidPostill you mean without ;p

i have patches on my legs, as soomth as 2.1s bottom

Adorable.

Thx :)

10:32 AM
Also a touch of the dashing Wilde about you in your school photo
Wish my school photos were half as good :P

Hello, Severus Snape!

user226528

"Mysterious ticking noise"? Assume it is a bomb.

user226528
If cartoons had taught me one thing, it is "Tick, tick, tick ... kaboom."

@Mokubai That video is always a good laugh.

@MichaelFrank The other half had never heard it, so I had to ruin the name Severus Snape for her

One update to rule them all
One update to find them
One update to install them all
And in the deployment image bind them

1:09 PM
Looks like it should not come apart as long as the tooth is properly taken care of.

1:50 PM
hi

hi

lo

2:12 PM
@JourneymanGeek How is $job going for you?

@DavidPostill bit messy, fairly boring...
mostly monitoring

user226528
2:23 PM
Okay, every time I think I've seen the craziest of things in computing, I see something yet crazier.

user226528
I issue a signout command on my iPhone. It asks for my password!

user226528
2:49 PM
@BenN Hi. :) I was actually hoping you'd drop by.

user226528
Well, ... until I found the Get-SmbClientNetworkInterface command. So, I guess due dilligence pays.

@ThatBrazilianGuy i've never used that command

user226528
@RogUE So, you found that page. :) Congratulations, you're no longer a SU virgin. Finding that page is like a rite of passage for SU contributors.

What's the deal with this 'SMS' replacement dealie Google are supposedly rolling out ?
ISTR they 'upgraded' Hangouts, merged in something (Voice?), then split off a Hangouts 'Lite' type thing (name of which I can't remember), and now this

its a whatsapp rival

(Google Allo, that's the one I was thinking of)

google are struggling to innovate these days

3:12 PM
@Burgi But no encryption, seems a bit pointless

@FleetCommand the penultimate one is hilarious. I think you meant that.

I mean, why not just slap a skin on Signal or whatever WhatsApp is based on and call it done?

because whatsapp is owned by facebook
also "Not Invented Here"

I thought NIH was MS's deal
(I mean, between that and EEE)

user226528
Google has been trying to implement some sort of messaging service for a very long time.

user226528
3:13 PM
I remember the one that came with Gmail.

And of course Sony
BRING BACK WAVE

user226528
Was it Sony that adopted Firewire but changed its name out of jealousy?

@bertieb agreed

> Google offers 11 communications apps and services. Alphabetically, these are: Allo, Chat, Gmail, Google+, Groups, Hangouts, Inbox, Messenger, Duo, Project Fi and Voice.
11 apps and services 0_0

user226528
"Offers"? Present tense?

user226528
3:15 PM
Wow.

Harruph
Article reminds us that they killed Wave
And Reader and Picasa, just to rub salt in the wound
> In fact, this article originally covered 12 Google messaging apps and services, one of which was a unique social posting service called Spaces. But after offering the service for less than a year, Google announced that it was pulling the plug.

user226528
Yeah. The rubbing is what PC World does a lot.

user226528
Oh, wait! It is Computer World, not PC World. My bad. Still, both are IDG sites.

user226528
They often cross-publish stories.

Aye
Is there still no plan to have a wider Voice rollout?

user226528
3:19 PM
They have a Macworld too.

user226528
Google seems to abandon its web service when it realizes that it might not have ... how do I put it ... a cachet.

user226528
They want people to look at Allo and say "this one has a certain cachet, don't you agree?"

Allo is the one with the stickers, right?
I mean, good grief (Charlie Brown)
Hangouts did/does/will do the job fine; but no, now it's only supposed to be for 'enterprise users'

user226528
I'm not sure. I used it as an example. I am sure they wanted the same thing with Inbox, Duo, Hangouts, Chat, etc.

Inbox! I forgot about Inbox
That thing still going?
I think Chat is discontinued (in favour of Hangouts) these days
But I could be wrong

user226528
3:24 PM
They never offered Inbox in my region.

@bertieb I think it is, I have got an invitation for Inbox sitting in my INBOX
@bertieb You mean Google Talk?

@RogUE Yo dawg, i c wat u did there
@RogUE lol, could be
Chat/Talk/Hangouts
