to further cement the massive difference between the chipsets, Steam in-home streaming is unreliable, drops a lot of frames, and results in Internet-bound packet timeouts when using the MBP on wifi and the Alienware on wifi, but when I switch the Alienware to Ethernet and keep using the MBP on wifi, it's perfect
anyone who says Apple doesn't do wireless correctly has an outdated opinion
@JourneymanGeek uh huh... "never miss a frame!" "super responsive gaming firmware!" "free WTFast!" so much ricer nonsense ===> worse than a good professional card that actually works
I'm a huge fan of Broadcom - or at least, Apple's recent implementations of it. Their phones and laptops' Bluetooth and WiFi codecs are either Broadcom or Murata in recent iterations - usually Broadcom BT + Murata WiFi
and they've been fantastic
Broadcom's legacy Widcomm BT stack for Windows can DIAF but their 2015+ hardware is great
The white-bellied sea eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster), also known as the white-breasted sea eagle, is a large diurnal bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. Originally described by Johann Friedrich Gmelin in 1788, it is closely related to Sanford's sea eagle of the Solomon Islands, and the two are considered a superspecies. A distinctive bird, the adult white-bellied sea eagle has a white head, breast, under-wing coverts and tail. The upper parts are grey and the black under-wing flight feathers contrast with the white coverts. The tail is short and wedge-shaped as in all Haliaeetus species. Like...
I still haven't gotten my replacement cable from Corsair to use that PCI-mounted laptop impeller @Bob - but based on the temps I'm getting, it seems like I just needed to improve the air intake by enabling the disabled intake fan, adding an exhaust fan, and have that 80mm fan blowing up into the heatsink of the RAID card :P
Okay wtf, why are these extremely simple and fundamental issues so common on Apple OSes yet they have such sophisticated security models and stuff -.- this is ridiculous now
@Boris_yo This depends on the type of cartridge the printer uses. If the head is built into the cartridge (common with cheaper HP printers), it's generally okay to take it out; keep the cartridge in an airtight zipper bag. If the head is separate from the cartridge (typical for Epson, Canon, and business-grade HP printers), cartridges should always be left in the printer.
Printers with built-in print heads must always be inked once you install the first set of cartridges. If the printer is ever operated with a dry print head, damage can occur.
This depends on the printer. On many printers with printheads built in, ink must be in the printhead at all times to prevent damage, although there may be a limited reserve of ink available for temporary printing.
From what I know, some newer HP printers, even IIC models where the printhead is ...
When a browser requests a file from a server, the server has the option to tell the browser up-front how large the file is. The server does this by sending a Content-Length header.
There is some other information about how a browser can determine the size of a file it is downloading.
@allquixotic @bwDraco If I don't do any graphic-intensive stuff, just some light gaming and the occasional edit on Blender or Photoshop, Integrated Graphics are good enough?
How can I make 'big profit' in day trading if every stock i've seen only raises by around £10?
I've actually found some companies that make me a £30 profit, is this what I need to go for? I'm just worried after comission i'm not going to make anything. I would invest more money but this is all ...
@djsmiley2k Jobs can sometimes be irrelevant to people's specializations (especially in films.) No. What is in the computing that you do best and defines you.
I've written a PowerShell script (see below) to install a very large number of MSP updates (files with .msp extensions, deployed via Windows Installer) one after the other. Now, I'd like this script to also tell me when the installation of an MSP update failed.
Things that I have tried: Querying...
I am a moderately good looking woman. With basic makeup and hair styling, I can make myself look pretty. This is my preferred look when I go out. I often get a lot of stares, sometimes admiring and sometimes nasty, from other male colleagues and I have pretty much accepted that it, mainly because...
@Xenophobe All of these used to work with HTTP, but Mozilla and Google (very rightly) now enforce HTTPS as a requirement. It's not that they cannot work on HTTP, it's that they should never be. HTTP IS NOT SECURE. All HTTP data can be be intercepted at various points. Transmitting data as personal as your real-time location over HTTP is a BAD idea, especially since SSL certificates can be obtained for free — rahuldottech17 secs ago
@rahuldottech .... you need to explain why free ssl doesn't mean that whoever you're sending your data to, is legitimate, just that it means no one else can read it.
Also i'd lay off the caps
Maybe point them to a good answer on why SSL is a good idea.
So. Using VNC on Android 6 and up has been made difficult because Google disable an encryption (Anonymous Diffie Hellman, IIRC) which is used by default by some VNC servers.
Not sure if all VNC servers, not sure if the encryption is weak...
@ThatREDACTEDGuy Android apps don't have any particular limitation of having to use Google's APIs, so there's nothing preventing someone from putting an app up on the Play Store that has a custom build of OpenSSL that re-enables that
I guess it's just if the Android app they wrote uses the Android native crypto APIs (which I can't remember if that's just JCE or something custom)
also you can do VNC over SSL or SSH (SSH via port forwarding) and that's pretty secure
Today in lab safety training... Presenter: [something about a possible problem with a compressed gas tank] Trainee: What should I do if I'm alone in the lab and this happens? Presenter: I will address that on the next slide. [advances slide] Slide: If you get injured, file a report. Everyone: :/
Turns out the slide on shutting off the valve was two slides after the one about things to check, oops
