12:20 AM
Greetings Sudoers! I'm new!

Hello @Green

@MichaelFrank Hi!

12:42 AM
@MichaelFrank is it off topic to ask about other super user's job hunting experience?

Not really.

@JourneymanGeek hey!

o/

@Green job hunting is terrible and horrible, and you typically end up with a job due to sheer dumb luck or networking.
;p
UNRELATEDLY

12:53 AM
@JourneymanGeek So I'm learning. I bought "What Color is your Parachute?" a month ago.
It says to start with small companies, which is great advice, but the trick is finding those small companies.

ah
Depends on the industry
but network network network
I got my second job off the local LUG

I'm searching for remote AWS architect positions. I read news articles all the time about the rise of Remote but it's tricky.

Oh
Got certs?

Certified Solutions Architect - Associate. Will start studying for Professional as soon I get a new job.

start studying first ;p

12:55 AM
Plus 20-ish years of working in IT and datacenters.

(I need to prep for a CCNA myself. Got the local equivilent)
I've worked IT. Trying to get off being a desktop guy tho

I've heard that CCNA is pretty tough. Doable based on reading enough books but still tough.
:shudder: desktop support isn't something I've done in a very long time. I don't miss it.
I took certified ethical hacker training a while ago (didn't get the cert) and enjoyed. While I enjoy the hacker-y mindset, it's not what I want to do all day, every day.

Its pretty tough
I have the local equivilent of that for now, and need to go over all the things again for the CCNA at some point
currently taking it easy, got a new job starting soonish, once all the paperwork clears

@JourneymanGeek On a between-jobs vacation?

of sorts

1:57 AM
welp.

!!okay
FF might need an upgrade @bob, Cavil is starting to die more often now. This time the firefox process was a zombie
!!okay

2:24 AM
Got an appointment with a nearby Apple Authorized Service Provider tomorrow - drop off my headphones (to have them repair that problem in the pic above) ==> they ship them to somewhere ==> I get a refurb pair that'll hopefully last a few more months before it happens again
pretty easy service

3:19 AM
@allquixotic AHAHAHHA!!! that's awesome!

3:36 AM
it's all the funnier if you have seen John Oliver's pieces on Murray Energy

And if you haven't, you should.

Bob
@allquixotic might wait 6 weeks for 60esr

4:18 AM
!!s/6 weeks/6-8 weeks/

@JourneymanGeek @allquixotic might wait 6-8 weeks for 60esr (source)

4:42 AM
@allquixotic That sucks! My Razer Kraken's are doing that but from the inside of the foam so it's not so visible.

heh, my daily driver headphones have replacable cups ;p

My daily drivers are UE TripleFi's

Mine are Fisher Audio FA003s ;p

I've replaced the cable on them twice, and gone through countless foamy bits

(and in theory you can order almost any part of it for repairs)

Bob
5:31 AM
@JourneymanGeek funny thing... that's literally mozilla's release schedule
> Our release schedule is meant to be flexible and we may occasionally modify the length of a cycle to be shorter or longer than the 6-8 week cycle mentioned. Check the [[RapidRelease/Calendar|Rapid Release Calendar] to stay updated with the upcoming branch dates.

Bob
@allquixotic lol weren't you expecting them to break? something about cheap plasticy? :P
@JourneymanGeek in practice it takes like a month from Russia and may not arrive intact?

yup
and the part that actually breaks might be 3d printable ;p

6 hours later…
Bob
11:46 AM

So is Windows 10 like a rolling release now?

Bob
lol that was an old 1607 VM
@bertieb shhh, don't call it that around Fleet Command :P

Oh..? Do they object to that term?
Could we call it a, uh, rotating issue instead?

12:34 PM
SE is upgrading their databases... live

Bob
1:19 PM

Hey, I can't see Firefox health report anymore.. where do I go to see it takes 50 seconds for a Firefox cold start?

1 hour later…
2:31 PM
@Bob ooooooo

@jokerdino What about about:healthreport? Works for the v54 I'm using here.

We’ll be upgrading from SQL 2016 to SQL 2017 on our primary clusters between 9:00-10:00AM EDT (13:00-14:00 UTC) on March 17, 2018. We expect to be read-only less than an hour and in full maintenance mode only a few minutes. For more details, see our post on meta.stackexchange. If we’re in maintenance and you can’t see that post, try again in a few minutes!

@ThatREDACTEDGuy what are you doing in v54?

There's some extension data I need to migrate before I upgrade. And my laptop runs an older Fedora version that doesn't offer newer FF updates. And there's some data I need to backup and migrate before I upgrade my whole OS.

healthreport is dead in v59

2:39 PM
I might or might not be using a browser release Jun 2017 on an OS released Jun 2016.
At work I have latest everything. At home there's check... backup... check backups... reinstall or format and install... reinstall all software... check... migrate data... check... configure all settings... check...
I've been meaning to do that for more than a year now ._____.

Bob
...huh. My Xperia X Performance has a 1.3 GB update
oh god
VBA is ... bad

VBA as in visual basic?

Bob
2:55 PM
@djsmiley2k yes. as in outlook macros
I'm halfway tempted to just write a .NET extension
at least then I could use C#...
there's a mmm and mmmm but no m or mm?!
how do I just get the month as digits, then?
useless pile of crap
NO CLIPPY
2

@Bob What's VBA doing as an Android upgrade?

Bob
oh, it's documented later ... in another table that repeats half the previous table
whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy‌yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy‌yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy‌yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy‌yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy‌yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
and if you leave a line incomplete in this shitty-ass editor it pops up a modal dialog that defaults to a help button
so I can't leave a fucking incomplete line to edit a different line
which drunken idiot came up with this?!
Oh, and you can't declare and assign a variable in the same line.
...
I have no words.

omfg
it's just whited out, outside
it was clear 5 min ago
and we've had this weird dandruffy like snow all day, whih just blows away
I look up, and an't see more than maybe a meter outta the house now

Sigh, i have no idea why cron is emailing me :/
it litterally sends me a blank email
so something is exiting with non 0 exit code, but no idea what
I can find lots online about cron not emailing, but nothing about it doing so when it seemingly shouldn't ;D

SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

It's been trying to snow all day here. The most pathetic tiny snowflakes I've ever seen.

6:44 PM

6:56 PM

@DavidPostill I certainly was! Greeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaat result.
@djsmiley2k I wish I got Google surveys

They don't offer them in New Zealand

11:04 PM
Does someone know how to feather edges in Photoshop? I want to do it manually so I can make a collage of pictures. Maybe I'm not using the correct term. Edges of different pictures overlap and I want to smooth that detail... I tried to research but found other things
I remember there was some type of brush
The pictures were more transparent each time you went through with the brush

11:24 PM
roar
~250ms ping to my server. Not great, but no getting around it when you're halfway around the world.
And this is on Wi-Fi at the late grandmother's apartment.

@PichiWuana Select > Modify > Feather

No laptop - using a OnePlus 3T and Nexus 9.

Bob
11:38 PM
morn

@MichaelFrank Yes I know that but that isn't like a brush
It was like the drop for blur, but for getting something each time more transparent
