False target jamming for an early-warning radar would probably go down as the dumbest idea ever in the (then not very long anymore) history of all mankind. — Jörg W Mittag 2 hours ago

@JourneymanGeek what does catija mean by:
> With the current (generally low) flag rates

1:18 AM
Where?
Ahh. Meta has not many flags

1:56 AM
But as I understand it there's no dedicated people to handle it

1 hour later…
3:31 AM
@JourneymanGeek any luck with that experiment? usb tethering android phone with wifi router...?

Aww crud
I forget
Forgot

3:49 AM
I try to check tonight. Ended late yesterday and was tuckered our

So, I'm at the airport
Going back to Bhutan
@CanadianLuke yep! There was a 100kb tool from sysinternals which would let you use multiple desktops
Handy tool
@bwDraco oooh, have fun!

@rahuldottech No, called it off.
Continue reading the scrollback; see Matrix for details.

@JourneymanGeek congrats!! :D
Wait, so you're a CM now?

Whoa...
@bwDraco it says CM
> We're really excited to announce the appointment of three new community moderators to Meta Stack Exchange!

4:02 AM
:P

Wait. Wait wait wait.
So, this is different from being a paid CM employee-of-SE?
in Ask a Super User Moderator, 1 hour ago, by Journeyman Geek
I'd only have to resign if I was a CM, and that hasn't happened
I am confusion.

4:32 AM
I'm not a cm.
I just became a mod on MSE
In theory I'm empowered to act as a check to the CMs
No pay. No idea about swag.
Essentially it's the same abilities I have here, on another site
I'm still processing the full implications of this :p
I literally found out yesterday morning and didn't realise it would move this fast

4:50 AM
Ah.
Anyway, I'm boarding the flight now. See y'all l8rz.

7:38 AM
@JourneymanGeek: you absolutely need to see this: anandtech.com/show/13628/…

That's cool but never seen amplifi stuff locally

Why is local availability such a big deal?

Cause regulatory considerations
Especially with wifi

Can't you get stuff online that complies with your local regulations?

Also conditions here are very different so local reviews would be nice
Technically no

7:42 AM
Don't they have stuff that is made for your market?
I find it odd that you cannot find something online that has passed type certification for Singapore...

If they did I could get it locally
And I don't need anything fancy
I just need fast, reliable backhaul

My setup here is router+extender (R7800+EX7500).
(extender added to address complaints about poor signal strength going into the backyard)

I have a free dlink router and a Linksys extender
And homeplug
Home plug is reliable as long as the drier isn't running

If this R7800 is getting replaced, I'm thinking about getting an RAX80.
(which will enable 802.11ax capability)
But the extender might need an upgrade, too...
If not, I'd probably get the XR500.

I am kinda tempted by the proper unifis cause they have rediculously good management too
AX would be unlikely to reach the repeater

7:56 AM
802.11ax is not mmWave. That's 802.11ad and 802.11ay.

It isn't?
Ah
Thought it was

802.11ax is the next major generation of Wi-Fi, the successor to 802.11ac.
Or do I migrate the whole network to something business-class (and lose the automatic QoS)?
But in return gain valuable networking experience that can advance my career?

8:14 AM
Eh,..
I don't think anyone will hire me for being able to build my own router

8:31 AM
I might do it when I have a whole house to myself.

@JourneymanGeek well.... that definately helped me get this job :D

Fiiiiinnnneeeee
But that's not why you did it?

Bob
hmnmm
debating buying a second copy of vmware workstation for work :P

10:23 AM
what browser would help me bypass the self-signed certificates error?

10:35 AM
Err that's not really the solution

Soooo my ear just finally cleared
and the AIRCON IS SO DAMN LOUD.

10:54 AM
PARDON?????

exactly

Is anyone here familiar with volume shadow copy service on Windows? Is it possible to restore a directory 'in place' instead of copying the previous version to a different location?

I thought there was a right click -> restore option, but maybe not

KZ.
There is, but it makes a copy
So, if I have a 30GB file, it has to copy all those bytes
There's also a snazzy UI in explorer where it shows you something like \\localhost\H$\Media (‎Today, ‎November ‎22, ‎2018, ‏‎3 hours ago)
But any file operations from there is a copy
I'm trying to circumvent the copy and just restore the file to that previous state

@XKCD this is me this last week or so

Something tell me that this price is not right
4TB SAS. EUro 3

6:10 PM
I've reached home
In Bhutan, that is
It's freezing here

@Hennes Stock up on them!

6:25 PM
out of stock.
Both for the SAS SSD and a SATA SSD
Though I am curently limited to 22 SAS ports

Not that is would nessecary work under dutch law
Obvious errors invalidate the purchase
Where 4TB SAS SSD for 3 EURO is very obvious
But for the old and slow 240GB SSDs (SATA), it is less obvious.
And if phones/texted/chatted and the firm confirms the price the there is a valid contract
And around black friday a lot is believable

7:01 PM
evening guys
im trying to remember a good website i used to look up info about laptops, it had an index with info about almost any laptop. Do any of you know of such website?

7:18 PM
Nope. way too many of them
though I tend to start with sites like this

@abobakrdy CNet probably.
They seem to have a page for any laptop I search Google for

tweakers is only on belgium/dutch and cnet didnt have a page for my laptop (thinkpad e580).
ah, found it. the website, lots of rich information about laptops there
