Familiar defrag report, PowerShell style!
@bwDraco Yay, PowerShell :D
So, what do you guys use as server naming schemes?
For pets, I give them descriptive latin names
OH A WIKI FOR SERVER NAMING SCHEMES! namingschemes.com <3
3
For livestock, the datacenter provisioning system names them
17:14
except that doesn't skip percentages, @bwDraco
@varfirstName Yup.
does it?
PowerShell can be awfully verbose when you want it to be.
I have an extreme case of "kitty glue" today
ever since my cat saw me over an hour ago, she's been all over me... I went to take a 20 min power nap and she jumped up to sleep with me
gave her treats that she loves, she didn't eat them
@allquixotic <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
=^_^=~
Pictures? I bet she's cute.
You said it's a Maine Coon, right?
@allquixotic you rascal, sleeping with other cats without having dinner with them first ;)
@allquixotic: *rants about cat not letting him sleep*
Rest of RA: Awwwww...
:O
@allquixotic my turtle gives me those looks too
@DavidPostill smart boy, that fella
I WANT DOGGO
So, I have the perfect plan
When I graduate, I'm obviously gonna work with computers
So, to ensure that I get exercise, I'm going to get a Siberian husky
Won't have a choice but to go for a long run everyday
XD
18:13
@rahuldottech When that dog comes up to you whining and hands you his leash in his mouth, while you're mid-thought on coding, you might regret that
Dog: "I need to run"
You: "Is it tail recursi... Aw fuck"
@allquixotic I loved my dog. Don't care when, I'd go for a run with her whenever
I really really want a dog
In unrelated news
(CC @allquixotic @Burgi thoughts? :P)
> The KDA Chairman has also demanded that Siri be modified to understand Kannada.
Kannada is a majorly complicated language
@rahuldottech Demanding that someone do something is far less likely to succeed than suggesting it and providing reasons for them to do it
since when was x not jump in ac anymore o_O
A private company has absolutely no obligation to add any feature to their products that they don't want to, for any reason
18:32
@allquixotic yeah except that
Apple is trying to open large manufacturing plants in India
And they probably don't want to piss our (somewhat crappy) government off
@rahuldottech y'know they should try and not have 359384508 languages in a country
@Avery lol
Kannada is a major one
@Avery most are correlated dialects
language is a thing that holds us back
@Avery it's kinda cool
people can't communicate and understand foreign languages without effort to learn it
18:34
Having so many diverse cultures
so the language and those who speak that seem alien
@Avery hence the concept of a national language
And an internationally accepted one
and alienation is a big factor of alt-right, white supremacism, white nationalism, etc etc etc
@Avery Well, yes. It separates people from one another. Due to the indeterminacy of translation computers will never be perfect at translation, even in a practical sense, and even people who know 2+ languages often can't translate idiomatically between them.
It's a problem in CS, too. And unlike spoken languages where we're trying to at least stop creating new ones at such a fast rate, in CS we're making new programming languages all the time.
To be 100% egalitarian it would be nice to create a new language with absolutely zero historical or cultural baggage and maximizing good linguistic qualities (no ambiguity, clean syntax, no self-contradictory rules, no homonyms/homographs with different meanings, etc.), maximum spoken and written efficiency, etc.
But then ##xkcd standards
19:24
yawn
19:45
@allquixotic ew ##xkcd
foonetic #xkcd is better
20:06
feck
my memory card in my phone has died
20:17
@Burgi GOOD. Note: I am not an employee or spokesperson of Sandisk.
However, you can always buy a new memory card.
Sandisk is a good brand.
why is it good?
I was kidding
lol
buy a Duracell!
it must have happened when i dropped the phone getting out of the car
i thought google was backing them up but obviously not
welp
20:32
@Burgi Hmm. Phone memory cards should be reasonably shockproof. I would expect the phone to break before the memory card ...
> Shock and vibration proof:
SanDisk SD, SDHC, microSD and microSDHC memory cards are capable of withstanding up to 500Gs of shock.

Impact proof:
SanDisk SD, SDHC, microSD and microSDHC memory cards are able to withstand drops up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) and being run over by a 5 ton delivery truck.
20:48
Liquid/humidity damage?
Burgi have you tried transplanting the card?
Must be one really tall car..
##s/welp/shelp/
!!s/welp/shelp
fuck
@varfirstName Or @Burgi was parked on the edge of a 500m cliff :)
> Drops up to 5m

@DavidPostill
oml
20:56
> drops up to 5 meters
Like that ^^^ ;)
I was trying to tag you tho
how do you do tags and quotes in the same message?
> drops up to 5 meters
^^^ Like that ;)
Put it on one line.
> 5 meters
FINALLY
So I broke 1K rep today ;)
20:57
applause
I don't really feel much
Just a little bit of a tingly feeling from bleeding out
21:22
@allquixotic I have had several Sandisk SSDs and memory cards fail ungracefully. I cannot recommend them.
My Sandisk cards claim to be waterproof and shockproof now though.
sandisk sucks imo
I didn't have issues with their SSDs but I had countless flash drives die
22:00
should win10 be slower than win7?
@allquixotic what things in c# are baggage?
@DavidPostill it was also pretty old
i was thinking maybe a voltage spike occured and fried it as i dropped it
too late to worry about it now
22:27
RABBIT
ribbit
22:51
reboot
##reboot
##sudo make me a sandwich
meh, this bot is boring. pretty, but boring.
Bob
Bob
morn
@rahuldottech google's indic support is good
my mom uses it with tamil extensively
@Avery I'm experiencing very very slow USB writing speeds and I'm starting to think Sandisk is to blame.
Most all of my USB storage is Sandisk, except for an ancient Kingston 1GB flash drive
23:09
Well, USB is slow. Period
THUNDERSTORM!!!!
YAY!!!!!
@Hennes 20 minutes to transfer a single 1 GB file is slow even for USB.
Specially when I'm right now transfering 20 GB in a couple minutes. Via USB.
23:30
@ThatREDACTEDGuy Indeed
And that's to a hard drive, not an SSD
@CircusCat USB?
@ThatREDACTEDGuy Yes
I'm getting 60 MB/s, tops, to this hard drive.
But I was getting the same 60 when I attached it to internal SATA, so I guess it's the drive.
60MB/sec is typical for an older drive
Or a laptop drive
Yeah, it's a laptop drive. 1TB WD Blue (5400 rpm)
23:34
It was doing only 30MB/sec with the default settings though (no write cache, optimize for fast removal)
@ThatREDACTEDGuy Yeah that sounds about right
That was to a USB SSD without write cache
Damn I need a SSD. And money.
And that's a USB SSD with write cache enabled
Which is about the max the SSD can do
USB 3, I suppose.
I have USB 3.1, but that just crashes all the time
So yeah I just run it in 3.0 mode
