Bob
@Burgi music

12:16 AM
thats a crazy game! ;)
its probably waaaaaaaaay passed my bedtime

12:29 AM
@Bob yeah. Seems ok. Bit heavy on the operatic soprano vocals but I like.
They seem more tarja than tarja.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Yea I would've preferred an Alto, buut :P
@JourneymanGeek Was that for both?
IIRC Dark Sarah wasn't that high

Deep :p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek ...that ... is a very good description
@JourneymanGeek also TIL this is (was?) a thing
Metal Female Voices Fest is a Metal festival dedicated to Front female singer, held annually in Belgium since 2003. It is organized by the Metal Organisation later changed into "2 Wild 4 agency". The festival offers to small and unknown bands to perform on a big stage, beside bigger and famous bands. Some years, they give special awards for the bands voted by the public in each category. On February 13, 2017 it was announced that MFVF is put on indefinite hold for many reasons. == Lineups == === 2017 === "On hold" === 2016 === === 2014 === === 2013 === === 2012 === === 2011 ==...
But I'll probably stick with spotify discovery for now :P

12:56 AM
:-o
Never knew you guys were into that sorta shit

@NotDog well, some of it is shit buuuuut ;p

:O
Bring the Archers!

Bob
1:20 AM
lol
I drift around genres a lot :P
been on this one for the last month or so, though
and was on it about half a year ago? idk

tbh, I've been on an early taylor swift kick lately ._.

@JourneymanGeek lol I almost threw on the Speak Now tour bluray the other day.

lol. Other than the cute SO, "Ours" is almost like my normal work day
oh and a lot more running around
and I'm not taylor swift
and...
its nothing lke my normal work day

Bob
lol
@JourneymanGeek early is good. recent is ... meh

1:40 AM

@Bob early is ... simpler

2:21 AM
I wonder if they realise they've used the Twitter logo for this infographic.

loose tweets sink swifts?

@MichaelFrank they should've added github logo to top

2:37 AM
Github is an octopus though... isn't it??
Oh.. no. Apparently it's a cat.

2:57 AM
its an octocat

3:08 AM
hello
Last night was... terrible
As was today morning
Mum has taken away all my devices, I won't be coming online very often anymore. Sometimes from school and on Saturday nights

How come? :/

@djsmiley2k Terrible mood swings, I don't know

3:37 AM
Folks, could you help us find a better home for this question. The EE.SE folks are flagging it as off-topic.
0
Q: Power limit doesn't affect GPU's performance?

Nhu Thai Sanh NguyenMy mining rig's GPU each draws approximately 150 watts with an average hash rate (it's performance level) of 29 M.hash/s. While I was tweaking it's settings, I limited its max power draw to 135 watts and expected the GPU to throttle down, but it did not. Its power draw does reach the limit of 135...

Hm. Maybe on topic for us but yeah, a crypto currency site may be a better fit
Also without knowing what he is mining...

3:52 AM
Do we have a general crypto currency stack? Not dedicated to a specific brand of crypto currency, that is.

I don't think we do

If he's mining a current which we have a stack for, then I'll migrate this question over there. Otherwise, I'll migrate it to SuperUser.

4:46 AM
wtf
why would you make specific ones o_O
that's like having... ubuntu instead of linux ;)

@djsmiley2k There's Bitcoin(-based) and non-Bitcoin(-based) stacks.

5:06 AM
ah ok

5:30 AM
@JourneymanGeek He's mining Ether Classic. I suppose, that question should do well on the Etherium stack. Another mod had migrated the question to SuperUser, though.

Well, we'll see, and if it gets rejected, you can clear the migration history and try again?

Yes. (I wouldn't have to clear the migration history, as far as I understand.)

6:06 AM
hello there
so this is a thing

Pretty sure it's a parody

@satibel truth? no, common sense, hell yeah

Bob
6:43 AM
@JourneymanGeek uhhhhhhhhhhh

Bob
7:17 AM
@DavidPostill ^
also, @DavidPostill v
> %processor_architew6432% is undefined on a 64 bit system.
nup, it's defined precisely in the case of 32-bit program running on a 64-bit system

@Bob ehh. I have a few questions with the mozilla ssl configs...

Bob
@JourneymanGeek yup?

1) HSTS - I need to tell certbot to do a cert with that included right? and I can throw any public resolver for resolver?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek No, HSTS only affects the specific client that connects to it. certbot/LE doesn't care.
You could do preloaded HSTS (which means you include a specific flag and then submit it to browsers via a specific website) but I wouldn't recommend doing that
preloaded HSTS is ... very very permanent

so just the standard .... ah and this dosen't do that
(right?)

Bob
7:27 AM
@JourneymanGeek default mozilla config doesn't do preload, no

iirc 6 month validity?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek minimum for ssllabs to consider it secure
you could go higher if you want *shrug*
@JourneymanGeek resolver - I just didn't set one :P
resolver is specifically useful if you have upstream servers (proxy_pass, i.e. a reverse proxy)
it's used so you can point to a local resolver instead of using a public one
> To prevent DNS spoofing, it is recommended configuring DNS servers in a properly secured trusted local network.
but if you don't do reverse proxying, it doesn't matter
and if you don't have a local recursive lookup server, you can't set it to anything useful
it'll use the system default (/etc/resolv.conf)
as an example, I use it and point it at a local dnsmasq on the try server so it can resolve the lxd hostnames (which only local dnsmasq knows about)
I don't use it anywhere else.

Ah
@Bob heh trying to grok as I go.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek eh, I only know half this shit cause I recently spent a whole day messing around with a rather complex config or two :P
        location ~* /lxd/(?<req_upstream_host>[^/]*?)/(?<req_upstream_uri>.*) {
                resolver 10.252.212.1;
                proxy_pass http://$req_upstream_host/$req_upstream_uri$is_args$args;

                set $frontend_redirect_target $scheme://$host/lxd/$req_upstream_host;
                proxy_redirect http://$req_upstream_host/ $frontend_redirect_target/;
                proxy_redirect / $frontend_redirect_target/;
                #proxy_set_header Host $host;
                proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr;
'tis a thing of (questionable) beauty :P
and probably incredibly fragile

@Bob Thanks.

7:42 AM
ok, lets see if we can get the test domain up
lol

morning

@Bob most of what I need is roughly as basic as it gets ;p

7:54 AM
hmm

Bob
@JourneymanGeek that's how it starts :P

so. there's fullchain.pem which should be what I shove into "/path/to/signed_cert_plus_intermediates;"
chain.pem goes into ssl_trusted_certificate /path/to/root_CA_cert_plus_intermediates;
?

Bob
@DavidPostill looks good now :) *upvotes*
@JourneymanGeek yes
@JourneymanGeek ...probably? tbh I didn't set ssl_trusted_certificate
I probably should

Matt S.If you don't have an Intel-brand SSD: READ THIS. Watch out !! -- I was blithely mislead by 'smartmontools.' needs some neatening up
my config file is horrbadly indented
there. Probably just as bad but at least consistant
now just need to start moving over stuff T T
there's a teacher with the same first name as me... which is confusing.

9:04 AM
@JourneymanGeek at least it's not null.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek wasn't Indica your test band? :P
Straight and Arrow just came up on spotify discover

Super specific track/version of the track of theirs.
Heh. Their Finnish stuff is better

Bob
@JourneymanGeek still. I was like "...wait, this sounds familiar" :P

9:20 AM
anyone here has setup PDFCreator server so it asks the user where to save the pdf?

Removing AD Certificate Services from our previous primary DC. Fingers crossed!

@satibel Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the server part?

@MichaelFrank not having to install it on every machine. (in a world where we don't have active directory because windows home edition.)

Right okay, I see.

9:35 AM
technically, we have AD, but not really.

@satibel I wonder if you can install a PDF printer on a print server
From my own experience, most applications directly support PDF creation today. Where it doesn't the PDF software is rolled out through group policy

@OliverSalzburg you can, just that the window seem to appear on the server.
though, I haven't tried the normal version.

@satibel :D Okay

@OliverSalzburg problem is, we don't have GPOs, 't is borked.

why would the googlebot be hammering our store locator page?

9:47 AM
@Burgi Define hammering
In requests/second :D

You probably have links somewhere.
@Burgi Google webmaster tools will tell you where the links come from

do you think they could be spoofing the IP?

Why would anyone do that?
Hiding behind Googlebot IP addresses to locate your stores

shrug

9:54 AM
Check webmaster tools

where would you look in webmaster tools?

Everywhere. Because anytime I use it, I don't know where things are
AD CS removed
Hm
Well, it recovered. So that's a good thing
Is anyone else having Spotify issues today?

Yeah, Reliance.

Q: Speeding up/optimising Internet access for a slow connection

Journeyman GeekI'm currently stuck in a somewhat backwoods part of the world, with my only source of Internet being a CDMA type dongle. Webcomics are a slight pain in the rear, but work sloooowly, when they work at all. Some other stuff such as SU chat dosen't work at all. The dongle comes with some software ...

Where is the website?

@Bob we dumped them \o/
and our indian sims are prepaid

Account suspended?
wtf, Jio is linked to Aadhar :/

Bob
Aadhar?
@jokerdino yea looks like whoever was hosting it took it down

Yeah, unique ID for all Indians.

Bob
o.O

:(
Aadhaar is a 12 digit unique-identity number issued to all Indian residents based on their biometric and demographic data. The data is collected by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), a statutory authority established on 12 July 2016 by the Government of India, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, under the provisions of the Aadhaar Act 2016. Aadhaar is the world's largest biometric ID system, with over 1.154 billion enrolled members as of 11 June 2017. As of this date, over 99% of Indians aged 18 and above had been enrolled in Aadhaar. World Bank Chief...
well, should have expected something like this to happen anyway.

10:17 AM
sigh
brilliant...
its a bit of racket actually
googlebot pushes through hundreds of searches which pushes up the free quota usage and you have to start buying queries

threw my hat in the ring on this crappy question: scifi.stackexchange.com/a/163431/54292

Q: How to handle Googlebot submitting thousands of requests

BurgiWe have a store locator page on our customer's site. The end user enters their postcode and a search radius and we display results on a Google Map. Recently we had begun to notice that the site was hitting the free map search limit (roughly 25,000 per 24 hours) without a notable increase in over...

@Burgi inb4 robots.txt

thats what i was thinking

If you deny the bot access to the page, it will still be listed in search results, it just doesn't crawl the contents of that page. Maybe that's something

11:45 AM
Hahahaha. Some luser in Manchester with the same name as me has just bought travel insurance and given my email address :)

@DavidPostill use up his meercats

2 hours later…
1:26 PM
@JourneymanGeek Do you have a "bad luck" t-shirt?

yup
I also have a lucky T shirt

Why do you even have a bad luck t-shirt? To test its effectiveness before gifting it to your nemesis?

because its a perfectly good T shirt

@JourneymanGeek what was the issue with the internet yesterday?

I just. do. not. ever. wear. it. to. work
Nothing. It fixed itself

1:28 PM
@Burgi The issue was he was wearing the unlucky tshirt. Didn't you read?

I might have spent an hour at work getting my website up :(
Its deeply unprofessional, but ugh

It fixed itself as soon as he took his t-shirt off.
I bet he had a hard time explaining to RH why was he shirtless at work. :P

"That's a troubleshooting step! Really!"

Well, our number 3's system conked out
and she bitched to my boss's boss.
oh and I'm taking a 1U cisco switch on public transport tommorrow.

1:32 PM
Backup on server A isn't running. I know that server B has the identical task and an existing backup scheme. So I log into server B only to find that no backups are being created since forever
It seems like someone reprovisioned the drive letter for the backup destination for some test
wtf is wrong with people?

@JourneymanGeek does it need a ticket?

Those two servers only host the most mission critical DBs in the whole company

@OliverSalzburg crack some skulls

lol, no idea
@OliverSalzburg people is wrong with people.

@OliverSalzburg Give me the IPs. I'll hack them and knacker them and then you can tell the company "I told you so" and get a promotion

1:45 PM
@OliverSalzburg Your company or a company you provide services for?

odd.... our top referrer yesterday was chat roulette

@Burgi one of your commercial guys is going there? :p
@NotDog when everyone is fired, you can't get promoted.

2:06 PM
@satibel How does one get promoted from owner? And into what position?

@NotDog Not internet facing
@ThatREDACTEDGuy A client
But it is possible that one of our guys is to blame!

2:35 PM
afternoon

@AndyK Hi

@ThatREDACTEDGuy hey I'm still hungry after all your food pictures
I went to a Mexican restaurant last Friday
It was a massive killer

I went to a sushi restaurant last week.
But I fail to see the relation between brazilian food and mexican restaurants

@ThatREDACTEDGuy none actually, or maybe the food look a bit similar
-_-'
Suddenly sounding racist ...

Well, both are south american foods, so there's similarities to be expected, I suppose
Not racist, maybe you're from somewhere distant where both cultures (br and mx) can be considered similar enough
I mean, to someone in eastern europe, br and mx are more similar to each other than to finland, for instance
I myself know just a tiny bit of mexican cuisine. Tacos, guacamole and quesadillas IIRC.
Only ate guacamole twice, and one of those times it was made by a german girl.

2:49 PM
some cheeky russian bastards are nicking our imagery!
they are hotlinking directly to the image

@Burgi oh là là là ...

@Burgi There's a lot of fun to be had...
Suggestion: How does one say "I am a lazy webmaster" in Russian?

@ThatREDACTEDGuy Я - ленивый веб-мастер
It seems like I have misinterpreted the backup situation with these servers. The current theory is: There is no problem
Just misinterpretation of the situation by everyone

Bob
3:09 PM
@OliverSalzburg Nothing to see here (especially not backups) :P

i think our customers website is appearing in adverts on porn sites

Q: What ships are on this T-Shirt?

Dijkgraaf I came across this T-shirt mentioned on Facebook, with a link to where you can order it from and got a higher quality image from. Now I know most of them A. Top left : Star Fury - B5 B. Central back: A Stargate - Stargate C. Top right: X-Wing - Star Wars D. Middle Left: ? - Enemy Mine? E. C...

so someone will have been to our customer's site, or researched the product on google and got a tracking cookie
they've then been on a "specialist interest" website
our customers advert has loaded in a side bar or banner ad
and some idiot has seen the advert on this "specialist" website and clicked it

3:23 PM
bye

Well this is pretty creepy

@Burgi what
there are such sites without weird as f gif ads?

> People [will] upload their contacts to Facebook - if many of your friends had this enabled (and the app is really pushy about enabling it), eventually Facebook will realize "that many people have this number for this person's name - it must be their number".

Yep, that's pretty creepy

Clearly, the problem is having friends and not Facebook.

irresponsible friends

@ThatREDACTEDGuy Every dollar counts.

3:53 PM
@BenN Unfortunately, if you want to talk to an acquaintance in Brazil you either use Facebok or WhatsApp. Period.

Today's economy demands drastic ways to sustain a revenue stream.
As much as I hate it, this is the way things are going.

4:06 PM
hey guys
I flunked out of US History (not because I'm stupid) and have to take a summer course for credit recovery
but the study material they give me has broken flash player

pls halp

Does it work in IE?

4:20 PM
hi

Hi!
Oh, I caught up on my notifications from the last week and found this:
Jun 29 at 17:57, by Rahul2001
1. Authentication: `Password+time` hashed and sent.
2. Response sent back, encrypted with hash
3. Commands sent, each encrypted with the hash (which keeps changing, obviously)
Now that I think about it, a password - like any shared secret - will probably be able to do the job for a secure system
However, there are several pitfalls here

hm
Well, I won't be able to work on my system anyway
I don't get my devices anymore.

First, there's definitely going to be a bit of clock skew between the machines, so if the time is hashed, you're going to either lose precision or get false negatives
@Rahul2001 Ow, what happened? :(

Mum. Got very mad
As in, to a level that I've not seen before
Okay, damnit, I'm deleting my facebook account

That's probably a good idea

4:26 PM
Never use it, only had it because updates for competitions were sent there

Hang on, if you don't have devices, how are you here?

there are too many bugs with node 8

@BenN Got laptop for 5 minutes to take print out for homework
And... that time is up

Ah
Aw

Might come online from school, idk.

4:41 PM
@Burgi I sense a story here

4:52 PM
any of y'all do Project Euler?

@varfirstName I poked at it years ago but haven't done it at all recently

I made an eratosthenes sieve in about 5 minutes with no external source
meaning no internet hlep
*help

Congrats!

then I dropped the calc time for .33 seconds for 10000 primes to .03 seconds

5:12 PM
@BenN i rolled back to 6.whatever and everything started working

That moment your keyboard has a firmware upgrade...

meant to be peices

sometimes i can't tell if you make a typo or are too busy juggling children, kittens and wives to pay attention

7:02 PM
yup

7:14 PM
Does .fun not have a whois server? What's the alternative? Is this an acceptable question for SU?

It's an ICANN-approved TLD, but it looks like there's no registrar handling it
What kind of site are you looking to register?

I'm trying to contact the owner of a domain. thanks so it appears I can not oh well.

XZZZ

@William does the domain actually exist?

its crazy the price difference of the sam edomain
@Burgi yes because I can see the DNS serves

7:28 PM
Huh, actually there is a registrar offering .fun names

@djsmiley2k catlike typing detected
@William have they got domain privacy turned on?

@Burgi no there is no whois server
sorry I might be misunderstanding the question I only know of who.is servers

thank you ben that worked wow I had given up bookmarking that site
someone got the domain 6 months ahead of me

that happened to me
i've noticed a lot of people have started using the .co TLD but it just makes their stationary look like they've made a typo or have missed the rest of the TLD off

8:06 PM
we use .co

8:24 PM
they should have introduced a .commercial or .commerce or something

8:39 PM
They want to make it real fun to implement regular expression validation to validate the accuracy of legimate email addresses inputted in textbox controls within website pages.
Thats why they made it

^ email address have no hope

In whole agreement with the .commercial or .commerce statement. It's silly!!!
Hey @DavidPostill, miss you buddy.

@NotAdminDave Aww :)

@DavidPostill: Just finished my latest project, UART'ed my Cisco MR18 and replaced the firmware with OpenWRT
Thing has 3 radios in it, its beast.

@NotAdminDave I would be impressed if I understood what you are talking about ...

8:53 PM
Ill dumb it down. Rasp pi, has the ability to communicate with devices over serial UART if you know the correct pin layout for the device you're wanting to communicate with.. Hooked up the boogers to the board.. Fired up terminal turned the puppy on, and ran some magic over serial to overwrite the firmware on the sucker.
;)

@Avery how many domains do you own?

a ton
