2:00 PM
@Rahul2001 Are you OK?

@Avery Temperumidity? Humiperature?
@Rahul2001 If at first you don't succeed...

@NotDog heat index.

I love riding my bike. Thankfully never had any kind of accident.
@Rahul2001 That must have sucked.

Also called "humiture" or "humidex"
@Rahul2001 nice!

2:02 PM
@Avery I think the one I made up sounds cooler tbh

I didn't cycle since my bike got stolen.

But of course I would
I'm cooler

I'm hotter.

Cause I live in Scotland where the temperature humidiperature weather sucks

@DavidPostill not really
I think I fractured my hip :(

2:04 PM
@Rahul2001 Oh shit :/ You gone for an X-Ray?

Did you fall off or did someone hit you?

Someone hit me

Shit

@DavidPostill not yet. At friend's house applying medicine to scarpes and cuts
@NotDog happened last time to

soooo ... have has been your steam sale?

2:05 PM
This is messed up

Was it your fault or theirs?

@tereško Steam what? What's Steam? What's a sale?
2

:D

##trout @ThatREDACTEDGuy

slaps @ThatREDACTEDGuy around a bit with a large trout!

2:06 PM
@NotDog Their's. Overspee in domestic area
And they ran off

Huh. Spending too much money on a housing development doesn't sound like a traffic offence to me

Yeah, I hate when I spend too much in my domestic area.

Sounds more like gentrification

@NotDog You say that because you didn't see how fast the house was running when it hit @Rahul2001

@ThatREDACTEDGuy If there were houses running around I'd generally avoid the area

2:08 PM
@Rahul2001 That's got to be illegal in most places ...

Much like I wouldn't attempt a game of chicken verses a tram.

@DavidPostill so is bribing officials

@DavidPostill no cameras here

and so is corruption

@NotDog Oh no, we read it wrong. The were peeing on houses. From their car.
3 mins ago, by Rahul2001
@NotDog Their's. Overspee in domestic area
Rahul freaked out, ran, tripped and broke his arm. See?

2:10 PM
Speeding
Sorry, hand is shaking, can't really type

I speed all the time, I never hit anyone
Everyone speeds all the time
To the extent anyone who isn't speeding causes a huge traffic jam behind them

@Rahul2001 Drop the phone (or laptop) and rest a little. Seriously.
Take a warm bath, watch a silly cartoon, whatever relaxes you.

I'd say go to hospital but that depends what healthcare coverage is like there which I know nothing about

If it was in Brazil it would be free but you'd have to wait 5+ hours.

I think I'll sleep for a bit
Looks like I'll have to spend the entirety of my savings on cycle repairs

2:16 PM
@Rahul2001 Go to sleep!

Uhhh, depending on whether he hit his head sleep is the worst thing he could do

@Rahul2001 No witnesses? Nobody got his number plate?

@Rahul2001 What actually happened? Did you hit your head?

^

Damn, now I'm worried.

2:23 PM
Hmmm. Apparently it's not considered a problem any more. brainline.org/content/2012/07/…
If he feels drowsy, forgetfull or otherwise looses consciousness for brief periods then it could be concussion.
But with CT scans being more common it's easier to diagnose.
TIL

@Mokubai I was going straight on a road, he came at a very high speed from a side road without pausing or giving any sort of indication
People rushed to help me, no one got his plate
Head is okay, luckily

@Rahul2001 Did he hit you straight on? Do you think you just cracked a rib or did you hit your head?
Well that's something... Helmet?

@Mokubai hit me straight on
Head ok.
Hip bone hurts, but I can walk, so I don't really know
Left elbow badly scraped
No concussion
But not sleeping to be safe

You might be alright to, but it'd be best to be with people so that they can see if you zone out or get worse.

@Mokubai yep, okay :)
I'm with Grandma now. I won't tell mum if the pain goes away. She's likely to go crazy

2:34 PM
Internal bleeding is probably the biggest risk then. Just take care of yourself and let people know if you start to feel any worse at all.
Hopefully it's just bruising.

@Mokubai looks like it.

How fast do you reckon he was going?

@Mokubai 40/50kmph
Man, antiseptic stings badly...

about 30mph then, about standard for residential areas here, but should still take care around blind corners

2:36 PM
@Mokubai limit is 10kmph here
Because narrow roads with no separate lanes

Yeah, we have that around schools when the kids are around.
Oh. Yeah, single track lanes mean they should be even more careful

Pedestrians, cyclists, bikers, cars all on the same narrow road
Anyway, brb, going to clean this mess of my body up

Fair enough. Take care.

@Mokubai will do
:)

2:54 PM
I'm a cat.

@NotDog Really? I would never have guessed ;)

3:11 PM
Okay so.
I just discovered that my right hand is hurting which is definitely not good

Seeing a doctor would not be a bad idea

Hip pain appears to be slightly lesser, so I'm hoping that my bones aren't broken
@JourneymanGeek can't tell mum about accident unless completely necessary.

@Rahul2001 You think she won't see all the scrapes and bruises?
Or your smashed up bicycle?

Bob
oh crap
hope you heal up quickly, @Rahul2001
4

Ow

3:29 PM
@Rahul2001 :( :(

@DavidPostill Uh, she saw the elbow, I simply said that I fell, she's too busy with courts right now, cannot give her more stress
@DavidPostill Hopefully not, it's in the garage, and no one else goes there

4:13 PM
no it's @Bob :P

Bob
o.O

What're these batteries called?

Bob
LiPo
imppssible to know exact specs unless marked or you know the device

@Bob Thanks
Is it meant to be squishy?
I think am sure this one has swollen up

Bob
@Rahul2001 not really... it's a bit soft on the putside but i would recommend against squishing it

4:18 PM
@Bob Yeah, looks like this one died...

Bob
@Rahul2001 swollen is generally less squishy
and usually visible

@Bob This is more squishy, definitely more than ones I've handled in the past. Swelling is visible, the whole case of the device cracked because of it swelling...
This is too expensive, the device costed 400 :/

Bob
you can see there's quite a few, looking similar with dofferent specs hobbyking.com/en_us/batteries/lipoly-all-brands.html

@Rahul2001 errr run awar

Bob
don't randomly replace with incompatible

4:26 PM
@Bob Nope, I'm being careful
This is 1cm*3cm
3.7v, 300mAh
> Unlike similar products you will recieve a easy to read and follow English Operation Instruction Manual. Trust us, we know how hard it is to decipher those crazy confusing broken English manuals our competitors have. We want you to actually know how to use and enjoy our product.

OHMYGOSH!!!! ·_·
@allquixotic lol

@Rahul2001 what's 400 lightnings in american?

@Bob IIRC, replacing with higher mAh won't hurt, just increase how long the battery lasts on a single charge?
@Avery ~6.3 USD

that's fairly overpriced compared to aliexpress alternatives but it's hard to believe mah values of stuff there so...

4:32 PM
₹64.5 = $1; ₹1 = $0.02

one of my 200mah batteries arrived today
@Rahul2001 other way around?

Ah, yes, sorry
OH MY GOD ANOTHER BUG WITH DUCKDUCKGO

Bob
@Rahul2001 your problem is the series/parallel configuration of cells, and the max charge/drain rates

@Bob Well, do you recommend opening this LiPo up to check because there's nothing written on it?

@Rahul2001 no.

4:37 PM
@Avery Thought so ;p

that'd make a mess and/or catch fire (potentially).

Bob
I would recommend not trying to replace an unspecced battery

paid 5$ for this but paid 3$ for a 500mah one, should arrive soon.

@Bob hm. Kinda need this device. It's not much use without a battery, so it's not too much harm if it gets spoilt
@Avery Why'd you get those?

@Rahul2001 aliexpress.

4:40 PM
@Avery why, not where ;p

oh

Bob
@Rahul2001 you're looking at this the wrong way. it's you who is at risk, notmyour device
getting charge or drain rates wrong tends to lead to flames

@Bob ah. ow.

@Rahul2001 because I ordered an ESP32 dev board and it has an onboard battery support (charge and run-off), and I didn't want to wait a week or two when I decide to build a project that requires portability.

@Avery Cool :)

4:42 PM
@Rahul2001 a badly discharged battery does the same thing as one that's been shot.
That is.... it can explode, spectacularly
And if I'm write, you've said this thing is in a DRONE?

@djsmiley2k no, you're not write.

oh no i'm wong.

@djsmiley2k lol

I SELL U BATTERRY| VERY GHOOD NO EXPLOSDE YES?!

It's actually a micro (spy/hidden) camera system
@Avery OH THAT
I've been wanting one for a couple of months
check out Saytonic's projects on it on YouTube

4:49 PM
@Rahul2001 that's an ESP8266
I have 3:

@Avery Oh, right. I didn't see.

one more will arrive soon on same shipment as esp32
the one marked W1 uses this:

ahh
> charge or drain rates
Uh, can these be measured?

Bob
@Rahul2001 yes, but not trivially

@Bob ow
Uh, here's the info I have currently:
200mAh
3.7v
3cm*1cm
Charges via USB, can also be powered via USB

4:53 PM
the battery can? or the device?
just get a usb battery packj

Bob
usb could be anywhere from 100mA to 500mA
0.5C to 2.5C
check what it actually draws

@Bob s/C/a ?

Bob
(you're lucky there in that usb current measuring devices are really available)
@djsmiley2k no, C. where 1C charges a battery in 1 hour
it's a lipo battery spec

o_O
never heard of that, TIL :O

@Bob not currently, no

5:35 PM
That may be true, but you are not answering the question either. So I'm deleting your non-answer. — DavidPostill ♦ 18 secs ago

Does SuperUser have any history regarding it's Beta life, Area 51 life, etc. and these sort of aspects I can read about? I wasn't sure if SU worked it's way in like other SE communities or if it was so early in the life that it just spun off differently than how that works now with requesting a community in Area 51 and going thru the process like that, etc.
Just wondering if there's a general area to look to read about some of those aspects? Perhaps I've overlooked a pointer from the Help or some other site function where this is already listed.
If anyone knows, tag me back with a pointer or something and I'll check in later.

SU predates the Area 51 process - it was launched in the expansion of SO to the "trilogy"
It did have a private beta, though

@McDonald's ^

6:31 PM
tried "SteamWorld: Heist", conclusion: meh, will refund

6:52 PM
if that's the game i'm thinking of, it's alright but takes awhile to get going
tho..... 'alright' is subjective

7:13 PM
@Burgi this episode is... weird

@djsmiley2k Dr Who?

oui

7:35 PM
ok heh

7:47 PM
@BenN Thanks, man!! I just read this and will read up more if there's anything further out there on the topic: stackoverflow.blog/2009/05/31/the-stack-overflow-trilogy
I wasn't aware of the SO "Trilogy" either... lol

8:02 PM
Generally, "normal" Li-ion batteries shouldn't really be charged at faster than 0.5C. The battery can get hot and its service life may be reduced.
Now, high-grade LiPo batteries of the sort used in phones generally have little issue charging at speeds in excess of 1C (the OnePlus 3T charges at about 1.1C using the supplied Dash Charger) but I try to avoid using the fast charge feature.

8:25 PM
KFC > McDonald's

^Agreed

@Rahul2001 Eh you can't get them for like £2

@NotDog hm?

High-discharge LiPo batteries, on the other hand, are designed for very heavy loads and can be charged faster.

Hello, @TheKittyKat Don't think I've seen you here before

8:29 PM
Monking

@Bob Meh, most batteries come with their own protection circuitry built in
@Rahul2001 163.97 lightnings

@Avery US$1 ~= Rs. 64.50 as of this writing.

4 hours ago, by Rahul2001
₹64.5 = $1; ₹1 = $0.02

@djsmiley2k Nah, a badly discharged battery that is subsequently unsafely recharged can do that. Discharging a battery on its own will never explode

@NotDog huh, that's cheap! Also, unavailable here.

8:31 PM
I dont get on much anymore

@NotDog Generally true. If the battery is bad, it's typically the recharge process that will cause it to fail.

@Rahul2001 Only 16 and already building micro spy cameras to peep on your ex?

@NotDog For an elaborate prank at school, actually
I basically needed a cheap disposable camera. These costed ~500 lightnings
@TheKittyKat Ah.

@Rahul2001 Really? Cheap batteries made in india and exported to the UK can't be bought for cheap in India?

@NotDog Not online, no

8:33 PM
Buy them from Chinese Ebayers?
That reminds me I need to get this stupid cable sent back. Took 3 weeks to arrive, is 1/10th the advertised length

@NotDog Will possibly do, or hunt around in the electronics market, but that's on the other side of the city

You may be able to revive a deeply-discharged Li-ion battery as long as it has not dropped below 2V per cell by applying a low charge current to it. If the battery has stayed at a very low voltage for an extended period of time, do not use the battery; attempting to recharge it can cause the cell to vent.

> If the battery has stayed at a very low voltage for an extended period of time, do not use the battery

Some batteries will shut down if their voltage goes too low; they can often be reactivated by applying a slow charge to it. See Battery University lesson BU-808a.

@TheKittyKat Well, you're welcome to hang around here :)

8:36 PM
@Rahul2001 That's the job of the protection circuitry to stop you doing that

@bwDraco cooooool

If it's not shit protection circuitry

@NotDog probably is

Just trying to solve my issue

@TheKittyKat You need some help?

8:38 PM
My portable battery pack claims to discharge at up to 125C

@TheKittyKat With what?

I asked a question about it, I'm trying to find a way to lock the z-ordering of windows

@NotDog 125C - isn't that hot enough to destroy the battery? ;)

Not a simple always on top program but A always above B always above C type of thing

8:41 PM
@DavidPostill That's a load value. 125C means a current of 125 times the capacity (e.g. 125 A for a 1000 mAh battery).

Anyway, I'll be going to bed now
Goodnight people :)

In a perfect world, this would discharge the battery in less than 30 seconds.

@Rahul2001 Remember to wake up in the morning

@bwDraco I know, I was trying to make a joke - hence the ;)

@NotDog Will do :)

8:44 PM
Heh.

Else you might die
And that would be bad

Most Lenovo laptops have a "conservation mode" which caps the battery to about 60% charge when plugged in.

@NotDog Indeed. But at least less painful than falling monitor :)

@Bob Same
@allquixotic Can't tell if this is unusually fast or not
Over here... that'd be fairly average unless at peak time

When charging and discharging, optimal SoC range is about 25-75%. EVs tend to use the 25-85% range.

8:48 PM
Though there's probably more areas now that have 300Mbps HFC than 415Mbps (capped at 300) LTE

Also, I try to avoid using the fast charger unless I really need to.

Sigh
google drive support on linux is still hugely lacking it seems

@djsmiley2k google is botnet.

... ok?

9:07 PM
ok

1 hour later…
10:14 PM
Hi, I'm thinking of spending a little money and getting one of these nifty BayTrail tablets running Windows 10.
Anyone know any pitfalls/advantages?

you might get ran over on the way to the shop?

@djsmiley2k maybe, although I might send someone else to get it :)

Whee. 2 ESP8266's ordered.
And lookign at http://seytonic.com/2016/11/04/3-usb-rubber-ducky/ to supplement my official ducky

10:29 PM
@Hennes is rubber ducky actually useful?
I really, really can't see the use for it

I have one actual use for it. Disabling the screensaver

@Avery erm, yes
if you're into info sec it's useful

I am

Can't disable screensaver and lock on the work laptop.
Often have the laptop at home (Noone else to access it) and have to move the mouse once in a while to prevent it from triggering the screen saver.

Either a rubberducky or a mouse in an automatic cradle will work.

a common thing is 'why do i need to lock my screen if I'm only away from my desk for a minute'
I go 'watch this'. pwn the system, boom.

10:32 PM
Also, it is nice to plug in an let it type a (lonmg, 32+ char) password

@Hennes wow IT must hate you.

wait
why does that say BadUSB?
that's not what rubber ducky is

Just get a freaking yubikey and use static password.

They probably do. My MAC is already blocked on the netowkr so I had to change the MAC on my NICs

.... that doesn't stop the screensaver?

10:33 PM
@Hennes ...

oh
meh
yubikey costs?

Are you sure you aren't fired?

Also, isn't porogramable?

I currenly use a script Pause 100000. Page up, page down. repeat

10:33 PM
Or IT is good.
maybe too good.

@djsmiley2k 40$ but 32$ if you have a github account. Compared to 45 of rubber ducky.

and you can program a yubikey to steal someones files etc?
and so much more, if you can program ;D

Surely not, but he's not using it for anything too specific anyways

...

Basic OS install is fine.

But I also need windows 7 (or at least IE6 on XP or a mutilated IE8 on win7) to access a legacy app.
it work on IE8 if you 'rpoperly' configure it. E..g run everything automatically, download all, do not check signatures, ....

10:35 PM
but you said u didn't know why they exist
I've just explained it lol

I do not want to use a browser like that

@djsmiley2k I worded it badly

Nor can I downgrade win10 starting IE.

I was mostly wondering how I can use it

and then suggested a product which doesn't have any of the functionality lol

10:35 PM
So I runwin7 in a vm

@Avery google hak5, google blackhat rubberduckie

'that was enough to be detected and my MAC to be blacklisted

@djsmiley2k no, I know how they work and what they do.

basically use it to setup a reverse gateway to a machjine in ~1sec

Not the PC, just the mac. So now I boot with a random MAC

10:36 PM
I was wondering how a socially awkward person who never really gets out can make use of it

well you can't really infosec for real unless you 'get out'

and I was also wondering how they're hyped so much when the people they are aimed at are a very limited group of people.

physical access is king.

I am tempted to order the cheap ones and put my CV on it.
"just plug it in. The CV will open and it will print on your default printer"

Are they hyped so much? My wife would have no idea what one is

10:37 PM
@djsmiley2k at that point I can take a hammer and smash their drive

@djsmiley2k and the highest chance of getting caught

@DavidPostill 1 second...

or just grab a screwdriver and steal your drive.

@Avery which is very noticable, and doesn't take 1 second
and if the data u wanted wasn't actually ON my drive?
:)

@djsmiley2k I can open up a pc and steal its drive in less than 30 seconds.

10:38 PM
good
You'd also get very noticed
even if you're an 'IT' person, in a IT uniform

Among my friends... I am not the only one which has one.
though most have them from work (white hackers)

@djsmiley2k 1 second is not enough time to clone a machine

In a properly secured environment, duckies are very useless

@DavidPostill don't need to clone anything
1. need to open url
2. done
setup reverse gateway
boom, i go home and i've got access to their entire network

Give me ANY url.
ANY.
I will click it.

10:39 PM
as a proof of concept, obviously.
@Avery You running linux right now?

I think a rubberducky might solve a few real problems.
e.g. reinstall and OS in a remote location without me having to physically visit.

And I bet that you can't take over my PC with a simple link.

@Hennes That's a interesting use

@djsmiley2k yes.

@Avery meh, you're the 0.1%, grats
I'm trying to educate, if you're going to try and prove me wrong, I'll stop

10:41 PM
HAMMERTIME!

Why linux, why not BSD. You would be one of the 0.01% :-)

because bsd can't run any tool from my daily workflow

home/tim/.macromedia
anyway I'm off to bed
if you'd like to talk more ab out the point of these things, ping me or something

Re hyped: No idea if a mere mortal would know what a ducky is.

it is hyped a lot in tech industry
