Also: Is there something I can do with my lack of a sense of humor? In some situations (including dispute resolution), I could come across as very cold for this reason (even if I can fully avoid making incorrect moderation decisions due to emotion or otherwise).

I've spent the better part of a decade trying to understand these issues and I feel that with you around I've learned some big lessons, but absent a major breakthrough, I have serious doubts that I can deliver the changes I promised in that open letter within any reasonable timespan, if at all.
I can at least try to do this even with no recent experience as I do understand the requirements even though I have not seen it first-hand in a while or paid attention to it.
Ah well. Might be a lost cause that I should just give up on. The job requires a different personality than mine, and general consensus is that personality changes don't happen under normal circumstances.

@bwDraco You shouldn't expect the changes to happen, and then place yourself on a position where these traits are important: You should be placed where the skills are necessary, then it will force you to develop it.

@Burgi The guy who really wanted to be the building manager for the place where I live, turns out not only he skipped 6 months of paying taxes, he also collected the money from his roommates and told them he was paying everything just fine.
I've seen a texting conversation where he said he was not paying so he could throw me out and become the next building manager.
The real issue is that I'm just too combative and impatient. Both of these can be addressed with adequate self-control, but again, this would take several years more effort on my end.
during one of my class assignments, my group mates and I had a disagreement on presentation styles. theirs was terrible. I told em I'd handle my own slides. They changed it, and swapped me out. I told them I disagreed, that I'm not going to interfere in that since my opinion wasn't really needed, but I'm obviously glad to do anything else.
So the consensus is that while these skills are clearly improvable, I need to do something specific that demands these skills to improve them. It seems I can't just learn them on my own time.
@bwDraco That's how I see it (well, maybe not "can't be learned on your own time", just it's harder that way). Although I suppose meditation and yoga could help. Not a practitioner myself, but I've heard good things about both.
@bwDraco One last piece of advice. Please read "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. "The book is intended to be a self-help guide for day-to-day living and stresses the importance of living in the present moment and avoiding thoughts of the past or future."
@bwDraco My intuition says that the biggest issue you need to address is your "expectations" of yourself (and whether you are imposing them on yourself or whether they are imposed on you).
