HURRY UP ACRONIS.....Finish my backup!
lol

@MichaelFrank I'll give it a try. You said to put any colored pixel on the white background?
@JourneymanGeek I love that site!

Anyone with a Win 7 machine, can they run "rundll32 sysdm.cpl,EditUserProfiles" in an elevated command prompt, was told it only shows the current user profile but seems odd it would do that

@Bob Doesn't that go away when you click off the little upside down dl icon?

Bob
shrug
@Ramhound I can see all local profiles (incl. domain accounts that have profiles on this machine).

12:12 AM
thats what I thought
He must have ran it without being elevated.

I ran it as a different user and all I got was that users profile.

different user, non-admin?

@Ramhound Yup

Alright, good
So my answer is correct ;-)

Q: Shortcut to "User Profiles" manager under Windows 7

MUFFI'm searching, from a long time, to create a shortcut to the "User Profiles" manager. How is it possible? Windows surely has a link behind the button so why could I not get it?

Another one of those answers which will get some insane amount of votes and make me throw it at somebody who deserves it :$

I can't elevate CMD prompts here... But I could elevate a Powershell session and got all users.

Bob
12:15 AM
@MichaelFrank that's even weirder

I have been sitting here, trying to run the command, in the search bar instead of run

@Bob Run as Admin... is blocked by policy. But ran as different user... is not!

since I am running startisback lol

@Ramhound it should work. I use CPL shortcuts all the time. Its probably a permission problem.

His, yes, i have confirmed
cmd -> rundll32 sysdm.cpl,EditUserProfiles one user; run as admin -> cmd -> rundll32 sysdm.cpl,EditUserProfiles - all users
I was searching for "rundll32 sysdm.cpl,EditUserProfiles" which doesn't work :$

@MichaelFrank I tried a white background in front of the squid and put a dot in it too. No such luck. It does not make sense that's the best shot at this problem. Maybe, I will change the help customized in OEM information and see if that is holding me back.

1:25 AM
@jeffery Do you want the black background, or do you only want the shape of the squid? i.e. whatever colour the background of the page happens to be, this image will show that background?
That has a clear transparent background. You can see through whatever is behind the image.
This doesn't, as you can see it's black no matter what you put behind it.

@djsmiley2k Hi mate
I got the answer
but as you and me was talking about it to doing it by URL Rewrite and/or Redirect Rules
I want to know can do it by them
Or since applying some limitations by WebsitePanel Developers' Team, it's not possible

Bob
3:15 AM

Q: How can I make a descendent element of a flexbox item scrollable?

BobI am using a flexbox layout with the goal of expanding the last item to fit the available screen space. When that item is too large, I would like to scroll one of the descendant elements. However, I'm unable to get scrolling working as desired. Example layout: var node = document.getElement...

3:27 AM
@Bob I can't even get a picture to centre vertically, horizontally and scale to fit in the page. :P

Bob
3:57 AM
@MichaelFrank nah, vertical centering is black magic

facepalm

Bob
?

I just tried to turn on a box with no ram ;p
And tried the standard tricks before I looked up the error lights

That's going up on the wall.

(its at work, and it worked a few days ago!)

4:14 AM
Blah querying on a MySQL db with 2+ million column is sloooow
I need to give MySQL moar RAM :D
Atleast I think that should fix it

Bob
4:46 AM
@HackToHell You need better indices.

@Bob What should I do?
I am thinking of tweaking the schema
Currently some dates are stored as TEXT
and really small values are also stored as TEXT
need to make it into a string of a specific size
perhaps that should fix it
ooh no index is being used for the queries ._.

@MRS1367 how goes it?

@djsmiley2k every thing is fine :)
How about you?
Did you see this:
5 hours ago, by MRS1367
I got the answer

yeah, good stuff
glad it's sorted :)

heh. I'm half considering one of those tiny mini pc things.

8:15 AM

So i was kinda right.
:D

9:14 AM
@djsmiley2k I asked it from you mate
can do it or it can't?

I don't know exactly
Thats' what I was trying to test yesterday, but tbh if you got it working, I'd stick with what works.

9:58 AM

LOL

Bob
@HackToHell You forgot the second half i.imgur.com/oIubRW4.png

lol

I guess those links show it means idiot?

10:12 AM
Have you tried turning it off and on again is working well for me today.
In a sense

I need to turn my brain off and on again, lol

Except for the system which the user restarted while I was remoted into it fixing her real problem ;p

Bob
@HackToHell Prooooobably troll => reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/30j7ye/…
(see username)

All his posts are well .... asshatish

1 hour later…
Bob
11:24 AM
@JourneymanGeek btw the hi-tecpoint feed + wick looks identical to the vpen :P

12:14 PM
I think I mentioned the vpen is essentially the hi-techpoint's FP version
Hell, they call it the v5 and v7 here ;p

well that's fun
had our first house evaluation today, they came back £10k higher than expected.

12:30 PM
A small SQL questiion, I am trying to do a DateDiff between two dates and store it in another column
I did insert into table1(deff_column) select datediff(col1,col2) from table1

2 messages deleted

Bob
@JourneymanGeek this is the v5 hi-tecpoint :P

Yeah, that ;p

Bob
I have the grip one... not cartridge
the v7 is apparently just 0.7mm
too broad for me

12:46 PM
Yup

/me likes v5 and v3
tho the v3 can get bent/busted rather too easily for my liking.

1 hour later…
2:17 PM
does anybody ehere do regular image backups? how regularly? and do you have another task to delete all backups (so the backup drive doesn't fill up completely with image files)?

I use rsnapshot
it does all that for me.
Tho it's not an 'image'.

@barlop: what OS?
Windows?
Linux?
Haiku?

only shit what is worth backuping on my box is some php, and that get backed up on github

Q: New visitors can add images - should we review it

DaveIs it worth having, within the Review/Tools section (http://superuser.com/tools), thumbnails of all images posted to be reviewed. I'm not suggesting the image has to be approved first or not, that's up to those who implement it, but I think this is more important now that "new" (low rep) users ...

does daily incrementals with merging
which essentially does what you want to do, but a bit more cleverly

2:20 PM
@tereško I wouldn't concider github a backup....

for code - it is

Not found a linux backup thing I like yet

backblaze seem cool, tho i've not signed up as they s itll don't do linux support
I've concidered signing up and running a VM just because ~_~...

@djsmiley2k er there was that other one...

2:22 PM
@JourneymanGeek if you can remember the name let me know, but i wouldn't trust them i don't think

where you could let a friend back up for you

Hell, the only truely important things I have are my wedding photos

ahh
crashplan

they are.... at home, on 2 pc's + external hdd. On DVD's at home, at father in laws on DVD + PC, on Google Photos.
Didn't that close down?
So 3 locations at least.
Plus they are on flickr too if I was really desperate ;D

(and if its to people you know, its essentially free)
heh. My desktop and laptop backup to my brix. And then I sync those backups back to my desktop ;p

Bob
2:42 PM
@djsmiley2k I can't find any v3s, let alone cartridge ones
aus isn't that big on FPs and similar

yeah
well i dunno about the fp ones

Bob
(on that note - lemme know if you find any, @JourneymanGeek...)

but the 'normal' sealed ones.
I used to study graphic design, they were almost as good as the £150 set we were told to buy.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek but you weren't looking for em? :P

2:44 PM
naw, I meant the cartridge v pens ;p
(and I haven't been to popular in ages)
Not since I started work at least
heh

right home time
o/

@JourneymanGeek windows.. I could use acronis I suppose.. incremental backup.. what is the advantage of incremental backup vs just one backup that copies over changed files to the main backup?

@MichaelFrank @MichaelFrank the first picture you replied to is what I was going for (Possibly with a white background). Hello, everyone else.

@barlop: basically I can roll back to any backup in the last N days
but it also prunes the oldest backups into the main one

2:59 PM
what kind of setting does that?

donno
veem does that by default

what program?

39 mins ago, by Journeyman Geek
http://www.veeam.com/endpoint-backup-free.html is what I use on windows

what if one of the files of the incremental goes bad?
does that mess up every one after it?

Its not happened to me
My guess is if it can't backup it'll just fail tho

3:02 PM
does n days of backup take up much more space than one day?

Which has happened
er... not much more?

do you worry if it's weird special backup files that only your backup program can open?

hm. Most of them do that

do you mean other programs can open the veem backup?

However since I have this on more than one box, its free and it works...

3:04 PM
or that other programs also can only open their own backup?

yes
The latter ;p
Unless you use standard disk images or file based backups most programs can only open their own backups

what would a standard disk image extension be?

.img I'd guess
I suppose you could do a qcow image, and have snapshots there too... but never seen that.

do you image the entire c partition?
@JourneymanGeek is incremental backup even based on images?

3:18 PM
to which?

To both
and you can load a snapshot to get the files from it.

hii

A matrioshka brain is a hypothetical megastructure proposed by Robert Bradbury, based on the Dyson sphere, of immense computational capacity. It is an example of a Class B stellar engine, employing the entire energy output of a star to drive computer systems. This concept derives its name from Russian Matrioshka dolls. The concept was deployed by its inventor, Robert Bradbury, in the anthology Year Million: Science at the Far Edge of Knowledge, and attracted interest from reviewers in the Los Angeles Times and the Wall Street Journal. == Concept == The term "matrioshka brain" was invented by Robert...

4:11 PM
it was covered in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=1fQkVqno-uI
it also briefly touched in a bit more interesting subject: what if the "amount" of science and technology left to discover is actually really small ?

4:35 PM
where's @Bob ?

4:48 PM
@tereško reddit today :D

5:23 PM
Got Proxmox running on a test box! Gonna get a few VMs going, then try out the live migration

5:35 PM
About to start FF Type 0 HD :O
hmmm wrong chan :D

1 hour later…
7:09 PM
@snipe why aren't you already using a VPN?

am now
because I have to,
and it does not work as usual
thats why. cus there shit
CCproxy isnt working

7:59 PM
looks like I found one but it may have limitations

8:52 PM
Whee. Thunder. Rain! Yayayayay! :)
33°C (91.4F) to 18°C in about 3 hours. Still way to warm.

I'm seriously considering starting to set the TTL for our DNS records to 1

Do DNS implementations accept that ?

@Hennes I don't know actually :D
They might enforce their own internal minimum, I guess

I would if I wrote one.
Assumption: config corrupt or user is insane. Lets make sure we (program) does not get blamed.
@Mokubai You just made me hungry again with the starred message about pastafarianism.
Not that SU has average users. But I do not trust most users.

9:24 PM
Anyone good with Proxmox?

Not me
Can a DNS client distinguish if the answer they received was based on a wildcard record or a specific match?
Like, I changed the wildcard record on fm.mg hours ago. And the TTL was 3600
But, no matter which host I look up at 8.8.8.8, they resolve it to the old IP address
But how is that possible unless they know a wildcard record existed and they're caching it?
When I query our DNS servers directly, I get the new IP address
And when I query 8.8.8.8, they even respond with a TTL that is pretty close to 3600
And I query for 41f07d04a2107b120f17194d2a28162b299eefe4.fm.mg or similar, which is only matched by the wildcard

9:40 PM
Not sure, @OliverSalzburg. I never got to play with wildcards

@Hennes you should embrace your inner meatball and eat it!

Q: Can't install VirtIO Network Adapter in Win 7 Guest

Canadian LukeI am playing around with different hypervisors, and I'm on to Proxmox VE. I setup an old server to test it out on, and installed Windows 7 as my first VM, using virtio drivers for everything - networking, disk controller, etc. I followed the recommendations from this page on the Proxmox Wiki, and...

Q: Can a DNS client distinguish if the answer they received was based on a wildcard record or a specific match?

Oliver SalzburgI had a * record on one of our zones and I changed it. But when I queried certain, random names on that zone from public DNS servers, I still received the old IP address. This makes no sense to me. The server I queried could not know the correct IP address for the name, unless they know there wa...

Got help
Stupid 24h zone TTL :\
Welp, that's it for tonight then, I guess :P
Time to get drunk!
So our own infrastructure servers can get push updates. But gandi only pulls and, thus, has the old zone and resolves requests based on the old wildcard :(

10:34 PM
Lovely... I hate dealing with DNS issues, just in my limited experience.

10:51 PM
Well, whenever I think I know my way through DNS, I get surprised by things like this
Turning down the TTL on your records doesn't help much if you're allowing other servers to transfer you whole zone and it has a TTL of 24h :P
