Q: New Created Custom List Shape Doesn't Work in Microsoft Visio 2013 x64

MRS1367Objective: First, I should say what I want to do, and then I'll describe what I've done to achieve to my Goal in the next (Descriptions) part. I want to create a Custom List Master Shape from the Plain Container of the Diagram Parts section in the Insert tab of the ribbon. Then, I want to creat...

2:02 AM
@MRS1367: That question is too complicated.
In general, if its not focused on one thing, people are less inclined to answer

2:25 AM
Hey I noticed a small Windows 10 icon on my friend's computer's taskbar.
Windows 10 isn't out yet so how'd he get it?

preview?

Right-click menus: Get Windows 10 | Reserve your free upgrade | Learn more about Windows 10. I checked the .exe and it's called GWX.exe which is at the System32 folder and it has the MS copyright info.
So this looks authentic.
Hmm it's part of KB3035583

OOH
I have it too

Apparently it's been afloat for a while being promoted from optional to recommended to important on some comps.
So if your comp is set to automatically install recommended updates then you should get this adware on your computer soon.

Looks like windows 8 only tho
I need to check my windows 8 bing/shrunk down install to see if it has it too
(netbook, not much space)

2:42 AM
Nope, it's windows 7 as well

2 hours later…
4:28 AM
ahh odd
my laptop hasn't had that yet

Bob
@DragonLord Hm... CON-50 has 0.6mL capacity, while the aerometric ones (incl. CON-20) have 0.9mL.
Considerable difference.

@JourneymanGeek Got this on my PC as well.
Huh... clicked on Reserve your free upgrade and a box popped up, then disappeared.
CLASSIC!
There's a "What this report covers" link on the little app that runs when you click on the Windows 10 systray icon that points to a page that doesn't exsist on the MS website.

4:45 AM
@JourneymanGeek -> it's not very complicated

@MRS1367: Its 6 different things squished into the same question.

@JourneymanGeek -> nope
they're related to each other

As you wish then

they relates to creating Custom List in Visio

I figured since you were linking it here, you clearly weren't having much luck with getting an answer

4:48 AM
@JourneymanGeek thank you for giving me advice
I know you want to help me
till I can get the answer for my question
but if anyone just can answer to the 6th question
(s)he has answered to all other things
but as you said
I'll improve it
to 1/2 question(s)
thank you for your advice
and I listen to your words mate :)

5:06 AM

Bob
Is it just me or is that particular comic really aliased?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek "Is it A or B?" "Yes"
-_-
Oh, it's better now O_O

;p
It looks really aliased

1 hour later…
6:35 AM
I got a job interview tomorrow, but I also have a cold. If I try to speak more than a word or two I end up with a coughing fit.

Bob
7:05 AM
FYI any Slashdot readers here (@allquixotic?)
@Hennes Good luck.
Throat lozenges?

Whoa my auth.log contains a million fucking attempts by some stupid botnet to bruteforce my ssh password
And this is with fail2ban
I run it on a non standard ssh port for fucks sake

Bob
I've made my opinion on fail2ban quite clear in the past: it's basically useless.
Just disable password auth and you're good to go.
IP banning basically never works.

Turned off password based auth

Bob
The same goes for changing ports, really.
They do filter out some attackers who go for the low-hanging fruit, but the effort to scan all ports is negligible.

@HackToHell: The ones fail 2 ban warns you about arn't the ones you need to worry abou
and weeeelll...
recently had to rebuild his web server cause of a brute force attack so... ;p
I was toying with turning off ssh on VPSes (and using the console) when I'm not needing them but that seems like too much work

7:21 AM
Hi guys, I want to know if there is a way to see all your instances from all regions in one page in AWS console, I am so tired of going to every region to find a EC2 instance.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Just use pubkey auth.
The console is probably several times more vulnerable.

That's what I'm doing now ;p

8:05 AM
In front of my home

Bob
o.O

(Pictures taken from my kitchen)

@Hennes Drug bust?

That is my guess
One of the vehicles is from a company which delivers electricity.

A: How to remove "Download Windows 10" icon on Windows 7 System Tray ("official adware")?

Camilo MartinI managed to solve it (getting rid of the system tray icon) by renaming the folder from: C:\Windows\system32\GWX to: C:\Windows\system32\MicrosoftYouShadyBastards and rebooting. Which seems to work fine, Process Hacker doesn't show anything wierd running.

Q: can you help me

Kenneth SolomonI have a pc that freezes every 10 mns it have multiple colors

heh. I'm wondering why my windows 7 box dosen't have it yet

my pc have multiple colors

millions
Hell, when I was a pup, we had to make do with 16

ah the jump from 16-color to 256 color :)

lol
(or 2, but I never had a monochrome, CGA -> VGA on an XT, then a 486... PII ... and so on, generally I skipped a generation or two)
Of course, these days, even a properly maintained core2 is actually still reasonably usable

@JourneymanGeek tiring thing
Also when's the grand superuser windows 10 gala

I 'wonder' what is going to be loaded in those crates :)

@HackToHell: I hope there's one, even if I can't win anything ;p

hm, I think it'll be too late for a gala

I hope there is on so that I can win all things this time :D
noooo

@Hennes So.. the black thing is a garbage disposal?

Yes

It looks like a 3D printer or something

It opens with a 'city pass' and is tall enough for about a 2/3rd filled garbage bag.
Which means that I always have problems with my normal (max filled) garbage bags
That lift the disposal unit (dark grey thing, the surrounding metal plate and the container below it) and empty it in one go.
Well, except if there is a car parked like this:

Hi guys, just wanna ask for the feasibility of this idea.. whether it's gonna work or not..
I have a TFS server in LAN environment sitting behind a public-facing TMG server.
Somehow I want to access this TFS server from the Internet.
My idea is to set a new rule in TMG to redirect requests to TFS server..
Is it ok ?

@Keith No normal public IPs aan all servers ?

roar
Good morning, everyone
Today's my first day of work, so I won't be around much of the day.

@Hennes I have a public IP on TMG server

I'll keep contributing to the extent I can.

I am to ancient. I am used to everything having a normal public IP.
nNo dirty tricks such as NAT needed.
Back when you simply got two class C ranges to play with as computer club.

10:05 AM
Toyota Motorsport Group makes servers?

@Hennes: heh, I tend to miss not having ipv6 for the same reason

What is TMG? :/

telnet ::1
Welcome to Outerspace mud.

IPv6 rocks :)

@OliverSalzburg Oh my.. please tell me that you are trolling me... :(

10:08 AM
I am assuming Threat Management Gateway. But I had to google for that.

@Hennes You are correct, Sir :D

And the other server is the Git repository ?

Hmm..
TFS stands for Team Foundation Server, a code repository.. so in a sense it is similar to Git repo.

forward the ports... :/

Usually we access the TFS using URL like this :
http://<IP TFS>:8080/tfs

10:12 AM
Right
you got something else on 8080 already?

The IP is local since it's in LAN
hmm no

forward TMG:8080 to TFS:8080
Warning: This will be open to everyone

how about any reply from TFS ?

Forwarding should take care of it automagically
YMMV

oo i see..
If I only want to open it selectively, what should I do ?

10:15 AM
I'm unsure how you are authenicating people..

I have read something called DirectAccess by Microsoft as an alternative to VPN
@djsmiley2k Well, I have an AD server for authentication purpose

I've not used it, but if you can get that working from inside the TMG, and setup the TMG to allow people to connect to that, then happy days
@Keith I'm not massively familuar with any MS technologies other than having used windows and windows servers a bit.

@Keith Sounds like you have the right tools. However I never used those tools, so I have no experience with them (all three, direct access and both servers)

Yeah, what @Hennes said!
See if you can get directAccess working, and allow that through the TMG
then you miught need to setup some routing to tell clients how to find the machines inside the secure network
(directAccess may do that automatically for you

Ok then.. I'll try.. thanks for the suggestions :)
Have a nice day :D

10:28 AM
Any experts on google inbox around? :D

11:09 AM
Well, I just got a message on my windows 8.1 machine that I can soon update to Windows 10.
Based on what we know about Windows 10 right now, how advised is it to upgrade? Is it like Vista to 7, where a mediocre OS gets partially reconstructed and A LOT of polish? or is it more like XP to Vista, where a great OS gets completely redesigned, leading to a generally worsened user experience?

The GeForce GTX 980 Ti was announced last night
It has 2816 CUDA cores in 22 of 24 SMMs on the GM200, operating at the same clock speed as the GTX TITAN X (1000 MHz base, 1075 MHz boost)
6 GB GDDR5

Q: Google Inbox - How to set filters/automaticly put email into correct bundle

djsmiley2kI am using google's new inbox, as a long time (pre-beta) gmail user I'm used to setting up filters to make sure some emails go to the correct places, as google never categories them correctly. This option seems to no longer exist in inbox, how do I make sure emails about jobs (from specific job ...

So, as i have a notification it was upvoted...
Two people downvoted it? :/

@djsmiley2k Yes, I'm seeing +1/-2.
This is off-topic for Super User; Web Applications would be the right site to ask this question.

11:24 AM
It is? doh.
Can it be 'moved' or do I need to edit/copy/paste?
And why didn't someone comment that :<. I didn't know there was a web apps site

Let it be, me and two others have voted to migrate.

arugh already done it :D

@djsmiley2k we can migrate, there's no need to delete/repost.

@Sathya yeah wasn't aware :D

How does W10 relate to W8.1?
Is it as positive an upgrade as from Vista to 7?

So, what's going on here on the lower graph?
It's happening for at least half an hour, maybe longer

2:23 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy It's traffic
:D

ahh
I guess I could install ntopng and get a very detailed report of the network traffic
(And lose all the 65GB of HDD space in a matter of hours)
I'm just curious of who / what is sending 6 Mbps of data from the LAN into... nowhere?

Wait. what
Oh dang I hadn't realised that

I was using something else...

@Sathya re: this comment, wouldn't it be better to have a question-specific chatroom?

ipread?

Bob
2:31 PM
pointing people discussing that Q to this chatroom might not be the best idea - any messages would be lost quickly in the sea of normal messages
(and then the next person who goes to that Q, sees your comment and clicks the link will not see any previous messages re that Q)
also, I find it amusing that they call it GWX for "Get Windows 10". WX? OS X? Hmmmmmm
now I'm not sure if that comparison is intentional on MS's part

broadcast ? :>
like syslog or something

Bob
@allquixotic 'lo

@allquixotic Yes, Mr. Cat Burrito, you can speak. Go On.

I'm wondering if I should update to 10 on day one or wait for a while

2:37 PM
I'm wondering if the non-techies will notice a new icon among the other 998694678 on the systray

Bob
I'll prolly wait until I have time.

Will Win10 be free forever or do I will the offer expire?

There's a 1 year period to upgrade I think

I'll probably take the Win10 upgrade on my work PC -- I doubt IT would care. /sarc

Bob

> This drop includes a Pilot G2 Gel Ink Pen 20-Pack, G-TEC-C Gel Ink Pen 10-Pack, Precise V5 Roller Ball 7-Pack, FriXion Gel Ink Pen 7-PACK, and Varsity Fountain Pen 7-Pack.

2:45 PM
@allquixotic My boss would care, but just because it's Windows.

Bob
@ThatBrazilianGuy I'll probably dig up the extra Win7/Win8 licences I have lying around, chuck em in a VM, and get them up to Win10.

Can't I just update a Win 7 or 8 VM, and then extract the license key from it? (And then obtain a Win10 ISO and keep both stored)

Bob
oh look apparently the G-TEC-C claims a "smear-proof" ink
My current standard for testing "smear-proof" is apparently too high -_-
hm... wonder if I can pick one up locally to try

@allquixotic: I have my boxen backed up anyway so doing a rollback is an option

Bob
2:47 PM
@JourneymanGeek still painful

not gotten the update notification on my laptop

@JourneymanGeek oh yeah, I have a "backup" too, of sorts

Bob
which reminds me, I haven't taken a full image since Feb
...I also need more backup space
might be time to grab one of those 5TB drives

@Bob: bare metal restores are PRETTY quick on my setup

when I first got this work laptop, I dd'ed the entire encrypted HDD onto my Samsung 850 Pro SSD

Bob
2:48 PM
@JourneymanGeek oh, they're quick here

I have the HDD in a drawer, with Win7 on it and a stock image

@allquixotic: I'm using veem endpoint backup on my home boxen

so if anything goes awry with the SSD I can reimage on my own

Bob
I did one when PrimoCache corrupted my system partition -_-
but it's still annoying

I do need to generate new boot USB drives and image them tho

Bob
2:49 PM
still using Acronis (2014) here

@allquixotic Your employer gave handed you a laptop? As "(it still belongs to us but) you can take it home with you"? O.o

@ThatBrazilianGuy: naw, corp issue.
But he did a few sneaky upgrades to it

...I arrived at mt secondary work location and both bluetooth and wifi are dropping a lot
Every 10 seconds or so
Maybe I'm in the middle of some electromagnetic storm? :P

my old old job boss gave me a laptop

I actually need to gentooify it at some point.

An old boss gave me an iPod in 2009
One of those:
He went to the US and brought one of those back

Bob
2:54 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy some places do quite literally give you a laptop to keep

@ThatBrazilianGuy Yes. And technically I'm not supposed to customize the installation, but I have admin rights, and the local IT department will only give me shit if I install certain software or do certain things on their network. If I take it home with me, it's off their network and they have absolutely no idea what I'm doing with it.
It's a bad laptop that I spent about $800 to make a less bad laptop, but it's still pretty weak, especially regarding the CPU and GPU

> it's off their network and they have absolutely no idea what I'm doing with it.
...assuming no bundled keyloggers and sniffers.
Although I'd just image the HDD and install Linux on it. :P

@ThatBrazilianGuy if I'm worried about that, I can run wireshark on my router (a NUC running Linux) and make sure
@ThatBrazilianGuy I'm not allowed to put it on the company network if I image the HDD, because it has to run their encryption software (full disk encryption, Windows-only, with key in the TPM) in order to pass their "security policy"

@allquixotic Why the quotes?

they scan a system every time it comes on the network to make sure it's running their encryption daemon and that the daemon verifies that it's happy (that your system disk is encrypted)
that's why I had to do a block-level copy of the original HDD onto the SSD
@ThatBrazilianGuy because I think it's stupid and doesn't actually prevent people from leaking info if they want to
access to any pastebin, chatroom, gmail, github, etc. is more than sufficient to do anything naughty I could conceive of; I don't need an unencrypted HDD

2:59 PM
hey

Bob
'lo

however, the full disk encryption does prevent bad actors who might steal my work laptop from being able to do anything useful with it
so there's a real benefit there

My question was offtopic and I wondered whether I could ask it here

17 hours ago, by allquixotic
You can ask pretty much anything.

@Subin the answer to "Can I ask..." in this channel is always:
!!yes
